The bacon wrapped pork loin is probably the most under rated item on any Kansas City restaurant menu. I just ordered it by chance and found a real gem in casual dining. The sports collection is also something you simply can't get through in one session. Well worth the driving to see and behold.Give this a try!!

Typical bar food, nothing spectacular. The restaurant itself is very cool with lots of things to look at while you're eating. The TVs could be better quality.

Ok, I'll preface this with saying I think this experience was a fluke because every time in the past I've really enjoyed my meal here.

We went to Chappell's because it's by my old high school and we thought my husband would enjoy the memorabilia (which he did).

We came here on a Saturday around noon. Understandably it was pretty full. The waiter sat us at a booth I've *never* seen used for 4 people because it's too damn small. He asked me if this would be okay and I said 'um, I'm not sure' but he kept walking me there anyway... uh, ok.

We ordered our food and our waitress was ok but kinda distracted and not very friendly. That's ok, she's busy.

Our food came back maybe a half an hour later which is reasonable but honestly, all we had were sandwiches and salads. I ordered the char-boiled chicken sandwich and a side salad. The salad was your typical iceberg lettuce salad - good enough and I enjoyed it. The chicken sandwich was pretty yummy. The chicken was cooked well and the bun was soft.

The real problem was my dad's Caesar salad. It was the most bizarre Caesar I've ever seen. There weren't any croutons, there was barely any cheese and the dressing was NOT Caesar dressing. It looked awful. My dad called the waitress over and she said "yes, that's a Caesar, our dressing isn't like normal Caesar salads, that's why I asked you wanted it to be a SIDE salad." WTF? That's the ONLY thing my dad ordered, don't you think it would be wise to clarify the bizarreness of this salad while someone who clearly didn't know what he was getting when he ordered? She didn't offer any substitution or any solution at all really. She just shrugged, said 'sorry' and walked off. My dad clearly hated his meal. :

Unfortunate experience at an otherwise proven nice restaurant and amazing collection of sports history.

I love that this place is called a restaurant and a museum, and it is truly both!
Once you walk in and see how the walls and ceilings are covered in memorabilia you get this kind of "cozy" feeling.
The food is average. I had their chicken fingers, my co-horts both had the heartland salad. What can I say about chicken fingers, I didn't order anything fancy, so I didn't expect anything fancy. The salads looked pretty good too.
If you are a sports fan, this is definately a place to check out, even the bathroom stalls have interesting things to look at.
I can see why this place gets good reviews, it is very charming.

First time going here, but overall the restaurant was good. The menu is a little limited, consisting of your traditional sports bar fare (burgers, wraps, etc). I ordered the Chappell Burger, which was unique as it was served on an English Muffin. Even though the place was relatively busy, the food arrived promptly. The burger was incredibly juicy and seasoned well, which was not what I expected from a 'sports bar' place. The service was very good, with minimal time between table visits by the waitress.

The most interesting part of the place was the ambiance. The entire ceiling is layered with hundreds of football helmets, and the walls covered with variou sports memorabilia. I saw items from well known teams/players to local teams, which was pretty cool.

All in all, Chappell's was good and I will come back again.

This place was interesting because the area where my friend and I sat had football helmets hanging from the ceiling.  In fact, most of the interior had some kind of sports memorabilia from team jerseys to team flags etc.  It was a little busy during lunch.

I ordered the Steak Wrap ($8.49) with curly-Qs (curly fries) and my friend ordered the Heartland Salad ($9.59).  The salads on the menu all sounded pretty good but I didn't order any.  Our waiter took our orders and then we waited for awhile before our food came out.  It wasn't bad because I was talking with my friend so I didn't pay attention just how long we waited for our food.

My Steak Wrap was okay but I felt like there should have been more meat in mine.  The Chipotle-Mayo was not bad as well.  The amount of curly fries I received was a lot and I ended up not finishing them.  I tried a little bit of my friend's Heartland Salad and it was alright.  Our waiter came to check on us a couple of times which was nice.

I didn't notice anything that was amazing about this place but it also wasn't bad at all.  It would be a good place to grab a bite for lunch and enjoy the sports memorabilia.

Burger was not cooked well, had little flavor. Complete letdown with all the hype in town and on Yelp. Bummer.

    Another solid Home-Town, Local Business.

Ambiance - 4.5 stars.  They have a great sports bar feel, but are a little short on Televisions.  Great memorbilia.

Service - 4.6 stars.  Hostess, Waitress, Speed, etc.  All very good, We received everything extra we asked for and it was done with a smile.

Food - 4.5 stars.  Ultimate Nachos, Tons of well seasoned ground beef, Queso, Jalapenos, Sour-Cream.  Big portions, and good taste.
Giant Tenderloin was big and thick and seasoned very well.  Curly fries were crispy and tasty.

Very Good Bar Food - Would recommend and will go back.

You always ask where the nurses eat, then head straight there.  So, this place came highly recommended, good prices, great food and my co-workers and I planted ourselves in the cozy dining room one late night.  We. Were. Starved.  Admiring the memorabilia is only part of your experience here.  The menu is rich with great sounding comfort food, like the Santa Fe Chicken Wrap.  It's one of my favorite things there.  It's a chicken wrap with lettuce but it comes with hot cheese dip?  (Really, it's good)

On that night two of us ordered side salads with our meals, out comes a huge salad with lot of cheese and tomatoes cucumbers, we checked with them, "This, is the side salad?"  "Yes," they assured us.  And then it happened.  Someone said something about someone's man and the waitstaff kind of exploded in a weird, not so hushed, fight, not fight.

They began to become flustered, shooting fiery glances at each other from across the dining room.  Suddenly, there was an appetizer placed in front of us that we didn't order.  We assumed it was hush food.  But, what a way to be introduced to the crab dip!  Yum!

We were getting ready to leave and became the dreaded table with 4 separate tickets.  The two of us that got the salads were charged a literal laugh out loud price of $8.99.  The waitstaff, ready to rumble in the parking lot, fixed our tickets with as much niceness as could be mustered.

Everyone was very happy with their meals and we did get a little entertainment thrown in.  I never did find out what happened and have gone back a few times just in case it happens again.  I guess I'll have to keep going.

If you are any kind of sports fan, you need to check it out just to see all the fascinating sports collection.  The pictures, football helmets, sports  equipment,. pennants, flags and other sports decor create a unique dining experience. I was especially impressed with the tribute to women in sports found in the ladies restroom.

They have plenty of rooms to work easily with groups.  I've always been pleased.  Check it out next time your are in the area.

I used to come here quite a bit after bowling nearby until my gang migrated south of the river.

I love the burgers here, they're among the best in the greater vicinity.   Definitely worth a try.   Apart from that it's a great place to relax with friends over some beers.

The sports memorabilia alone makes Chappell's worth a visit!    It's truly  a great collection!

Came here for lunch this past week.

    The good:
    1. BIG portions. I had a reuben, which was pretty standard but had a nice hunk of meat.
    2. All the sports memorabilia.  The collection of football helmets was most impressive.

    The Ok:
The food was pretty standard stuff.

It is a fun place to go for a meal.  If you're a visitor to KC (such as moi), it is worth checking out, especially if you're in this part of town.   Definitely would recommend it.

Love this place! In the midst of the cool NKC neighborhood on Armour Rd. Chappell's Restaurant is the place to be for a burger and beer. The owner never fails to meet and greet. Nice. It has a great bar with friendly service.
You go to Chappell's to party  and/or relax. Order the house specials or  a burger, fries and beer.   LOVE the cheese fries: waffle fries smothered in Cheese Queso or homemade creamy blue cheese dressing...topped with crispy bacon and scallions. How can you resist? The steak soup is also a good bet.
The atmosphere is definitely casual and there's interesting sports memorabilia in every nook and cranny. Cool. Drink and wander around checking it out.
Chappell's is a place to experience.

I don't understand how anyone could give Chappell's just one star.  I've eaten here a couple dozen times and have never had a sub-par meal, nor bad service.  When the owner is almost always in his establishment, like Jim Chappell is, it tells me it's his pride and joy and he pours himself into it.  The memorabilia is incredible.  Over 500 football helmets hanging from the ceiling and probably more school banners; baseballs autographed by the legends, and more autographed photos than you'll see anywhere.  My wife is by no means a sports fan, but she really enjoys Chappell's too.

The food is very good.  I took our summer intern there yesterday, and we ate for a total of $19.  The burgers were perfectly done (medium) as ordered.  The fries are consistently excellent.  I've had the Northtown Burger, Chappell Burger, tenderloin, Reuben, blackened chicken sandwich, Nachos Grande(?), and dinner salads, and it's all good.  The seating is warm and as private as the building allows.  They can handle anywhere from a quiet table for 2 to a room set aside for 30-40.  The waiters and waitresses are actually trained for a change.  Some have been there for years.
    Helmets off to Chappell's!

Some people like this place but I'll never understand why.  The food is blaaaahhhh.  There's lots of sports memorabilia, --jerseys, helmets, and what-not.
