Good food at great price.  This is not going to be a gourmet meal, but it blows most fast food out of the water.  Get the gyro plate and an extra pita, you can feed two people with gyros and fries for 9 bucks, cannot beat that.  Ohh, the staff is really friendly and have a great positive attitude.

Strange to see I haven't already reviewed this location since the one in Chicago had always been a dear place to me.  Charcoal delights had always been a favorite char house for me until they put in place major changes in their food offerings back in 2010.  Blame the economy, if it wasn't for these changes all of you that say in exasperation, "what the heck are people loving so much here?!" there was a time when one could say mostly everything.  First there was a change with the breasts used in their chicken delight chicken sandwich and then it was the fries!  The fries used to be plump alike what Wendy's used to offer (years before their change in 2010) but far better.  Due to the economy they changed their fries and went with something thinner and smaller in quantity.  Free fries with a hot dog or sandwich sounds good on paper but the quantity of it, blows.

Most repeats like some of the following:
Italian beef with or w/out cheese.   (If you don't know how to order it, "Dip" is necessary with hot giardinera)
    Gyros (Not a fan personally)
    Pizza puff (previously a fan)
Any char burger the bigger the better.
    Chicken Delight (Previously a fan)
Char chicken sandwich (get it with BBQ sauce, its almost caramelized)
    Fish sandwich (Fan)
Broasted Chicken (this is a must for chicken lovers, but get it fresh.  Not the shite sitting under a heat lamp all damn afternoon)

I used to be a five star fan of this business for many years but the changes were too great for me.

This location is never as busy as the one in North Park.  Nicer seating area.  Cozy, comfortable atmosphere.  More family like.  A flat screen television in view for most to catch up on news while dining.  Some green plants and well lit.  It's also got a drive-thru but once you've made the decision to drive through it, there's no backing out of it.

For all the people giving this place low ratings & writing a novel about a fast food place, first get a life, second, should never even step in a fast food type of environment the way you nit-pick a place like this.

In the space of a month I have visited twice, each time bringing a different friend-both agree with me.....this is a step up from usual fast food.  Dont waste your money at McD or Burger king. The burgers here are very good as Brigitte also commented.

Glad to see they now have a proper, bright  menu and ditched the chalkboard.

The service is better here than some regular sit down restaurants I have been to and the young man at the cashier (glasses) deserves a raise.  He is always patient, remembers you, helpful, pleasant, etc.

The place is ALWAYS clean, no matter the time of day, and the food is always delicious and fresh.  The owner actually gives a damn and is certain the staff does too.  No mopers at this place.

Always full of cops and postal employees.

    I love this place

I look at all the 5 star comments and can't help but laugh hysterically and shake my head.

So far I have been here twice...twice too many. I can tell you I will not be making a third trip. My first time I purchased a burger and fries. The burger had no taste what so ever.  It was flat, greasy, and overcooked.  The fries were average at best. Nothing to rave about.

After my first mediocre experience I thought I will give them a second try.  Maybe the cheese steak sandwich has to be a winner...right?  WRONG! I ordered the steak sandwich with bbq and cheese (of course). It usually comes with onions and peppers.  I asked the man at the mic if the steak comes in slices (which it does, I found out later when I dug in) he told me it was a new york strip.  After he said that I assumed it would be a whole steak instead of slices.  You know what you get when you assume right?  You get a bland steak sandwich on a french roll with melted american cheese (excluding fries) for a little over $6.

My first sign should of been the empty restaurant and parking lot.  I should have ran, ran far away. I should have ran to paradise pup and begged them to take my credit card.

We heart Charcoal Delights.  Unfortunately, we moved out of the area not long ago, so don't order from them on a weekly basis like we used to.  What can I say, their food is absolutely delicious, and they give you so much of it for the price!  Their burgers are perfect juicy, their fries are just enough crisp, their gyros are, well, gyros heaven...no food complaints from me, whatsoever.  Well, except maybe, not the healthiest stuff to shove down one's gullet, but hey, greasy spoon and all, eh.

btw, big props to their staff, simply awesome bunch of folks.  Friendly, efficient, thoughtful...great service!

I absolutely love their burgers.  I've brought out-of-town guests here and they said they are the best burgers they've ever had.  I almost agree, but there is one place in Des Plaines that has better burgers... (don't know if I can say the name of the place!!)

I do love their chicken kabob pitas.  The sauce is fantastic.    I also like their salads topped with chicken.  I haven't found any better! and their pita bread is out of this world.

I live in the neighborhood and go there quite often.  Never thought of giving them a rating on Yelp, until my friend asked about their ratings..duh............

I've had just about everything on their menu (although the chicken kabob pita is my favorite) and loved almost everything.  Absolutely love the real charcoal taste of their chicken and burgers.  I've been to other restaurants that think they're better, but I always come back to Charcoal Delights, because they just don't compare.

My truck broke down. I was tow right next door to this place. I choose this place to get a bite to eat. I choose the italian combo it was nice I like they gave me a cup of soup with my meal. The prices were ok.

Ok it gets three stars only because of the connivence of the drive through and decent hours. It is a step above the fast food chains.

I just read Scott V.'s post from earlier this month - no clam in the clam chowder.  That's funny because I just ordered cup of 'Chicken Noodle' soup at Charcoal Delight, with NO CHICKEN in it - noodles, maybe 1 piece of carrot & a bland broth.  Cost me $7 for a small cup of soup & grilled cheese sandwich.  This place is over-priced & the soup is terrible.

The mushrooms taste doughy. The gyro was salty. The fries were not crunchy. This place has potential because the Chicago location does a better job! The prices are too high for what it is!

I have only visited Charcoal Delights twice. Both times I ordered the Charcoal Broiled Chicken on Pita. Seriously, the charcoal cooking brings the flavor to maximum overdrive!  Obviously this is an old school way of cooking and rare to find. The wait time is quick and the food runners bring everything to you. Staff is super friendly and will even make suggestions if you are undecided on what to order.

Plenty of parking and if you are lazy, they have a drive thru too :)

Really pretty crappy in almost every way.  I got the rib/chicken dinner.  The chicken and ribs were dry and lacked flavor.  The clam chowder was very terrible, there was no clam or chowder in the soup.  It consisted only of milky broth and big chunks of potato.

Speaking of potatoes, the meal came with a baked potato that tasted as if it was a week old and was stored at night with the dirty dishrags.  No amount of butter or sour cream could make this awful thing edible.

All this for the low low price of $17.  I will not be returning to this overpriced "grill."  There are so many good places within 5 minutes of here that are light years better.

Best gyros in the area. My favorite has to be their cheese fries. Real cheese and not that processed stuff. They briefly changed that but brought back the real deal due to complaints. Drive through is a huge bonus as well!

Yikes... To be fair I gave this place a second chance because I liked their fries BUT I will not be giving them a 3rd! The first round I got a patty melt that was soggy to the point of being wet yet still completely burned BLACK (the bread that is) inedible so this went right into the garbage. Here's where my other point comes in, they are extremely expensive!
So it's not such a great feeling to literally throw my money away!! So I just got home from round 2.... My boyfriend wanted a hot dog w/ kraut and since we moved to Rosemont were still trying to weed out the good and the bad we gave it another chance. BOO this time i ordered a beef. Disgusting. Not to mention tiny maybe on a 4 inch long roll, not that it mattered I wasnt going to eat it! It was cold, the juice smelled old or funky and the beef bland and thick. I asked for cheese which I think they forgot about and threw it on top last minute because it was cold as well, btw that one slice of cheese on my 4 inch roll was $1 really??? $1 for 1 slice of cheese???? My meal came out to about $10 not worth $5 as it was!!!

I am trying to decide if I like Brandy's or Charcoal Delights better for gyro sandwiches and since eating two 40 fat grams of  sandwich back to back for a taste test is probably not a good idea I am going to have to give Charcoal Delights the win by virtue of having a drive thru.  Because, if you are eating 40 grams of fat in one sitting then you are probably too lazy to want to get ouf of your car and order it at a counter.  Seems like a lot of effort some days, ya know what I mean?  But hey, do your HMO a favor and skip the fries.  They're good but you don't need them.

I like this place for the simple fact that is is on the way home AND, they have Greek style chicken.  I actually like the lightly battered cuts of potato that comes along with it.  The rice is pretty standard in comparison to most beef/gyro places.

They do have broasted chicken.  I like broasted chicken when eaten right away.  It can be real juicy and crispy on the outside.  When sitting under a heat lamp for too long, it can definitely dry out.  That being said, you don't know how long the chicken has been sitting there.  Overall, good food, self service condiments and ample seating.  Kabobs are pretty good too.

    Pretty decent imo.

So I work in Des Plaines and I've been eating the same food every day so of course I yelp'd to see what is around and since this place got a 4-star I was like why not, I can go for a burger.

I love the fact it has a drive-thru and the parking is spacious.

However, the food fails what all these yelpers are yelping about! I got the 1/4 cheeseburger combo - (includ fries and a drink). The burger had a good charcoal taste, but I wish I would of went with american or cheddar cheese instead of swiss (yeah I don't know why I went with swiss). There was nothing amazing about the burger. The fries were just like any ordinary greesy fries. Nothing special about it and quite oily. I also order a side of cheese and this was the worse part out of my whole meal. $0.75 for a small cup of cheese that didn't taste like anything! I was hoping for jalapeno cheese or something, but it didn't have a single taste to it.

The meal was $7, not bad, but I wasn't completely satisfied. I was hoping for better with all these raving reviews on here.

I like all of that high-falutin' food, like endive of escalloped garnish, medallions of squab de boulevard avec reductio de la pomegranate, etc. But coming off of a stomach bug last week I found myself really hungry, and... fragile.  I needed something that my body would for sure know what to do with.  Having grown up in the midwest, we decided to get burgers and fries.

I had been to Charcoal Delights once before for gyros, which I had found perfectly satisfying (and crazy big).  But the cheeseburgers blew us away.  We are still talking about the damn things.  The only reason we haven't been back is because of a slavish devotion to our nutritional master plan.

When I rattle off the ingredients it's not going to sound like much.  You know, bun, patty, lettuce, blah blah blah.  But it was super tasty.  The charcoal really made a big difference in the flavor.  The restaurant didn't make much of an impression on me before, because the gyros were done on an ordinary radiant rotisserie spit -- so no char tinge.

I haven't had a burger at the Paradise Pup yet but I'm thinking it must be kind of like this one.  Wonderful.

The restaurant itself is of course all fast-food diner ambience.  Nice staff though, good and laid back.

Their greek marinated chicken sandwich on pita bread is very good.  I'm not sure it's even on the regular menu. I also think they make a good turkey burger and other people I go with say they make a good Maxwell Polish.  I have tried their rice and it's good as are their onion rings. Sometimes (okay most times) I  get some baklava to go.  It's excellent and made with chopped walnuts rather than pistachios which is the way I like it.  Service is super polite and fast and the place seems clean which is always a plus.

Gyros: top notch. Proper meat/onion/sauce combo.
    Broiled Chicken: Not my forte.
Onion Rings: Delicious and very recommendable. Crispy, a little bit of spice and delicious onions inside.

I ordered a medium Sprite, got an extra large one instead.

Pricey, but delicious. Would I come back everyday? Nope. But moreso a once a week treat. Oh and they also deliver or one employee really really enjoys this place.

I had husband go here because they have drive thru which is great.  I asked for cheeseburger and onion rings based on comments here.  It was ok, but I thought toppings were sort of skimpy!  Not very much at all!  Onion rings were very good.  My daughter loved their fries.  (She is 2 and loves french fries from anywhere!)  My husband got a Gyros and I tried a piece of meat.  It tasted salty to me which was strange.  But it was ok.  I wish they had a website or menu posted online!

This is one of the only fast food joints around that still will cook your burgers to order. If you want a half pound cheeseburger (you can also pick which cheese you want , ain't it cool!) medium rare like it ought to be , this is your place. The hot dogs are prepared either boiled, grilled or fried , as are their Polish , and topped with whatever you want , peppers to chili. I come to this place for the Broasted Chicken, sometimes I drive by this place not even planning to stop and I find myself at the drive in window ordering the broasted chicken before I know I'm doing it. Can't rave enough , be careful though . A juicy cheeseburger , cooked like their supposed to , are a bitch to eat while driving.

Yeah. It's an okay place to go...the food is pretty good and cheap. Everything on the menu is not too bad.
