While wxyz bar is a cool, contemporary place, I may have to go back and re- review it on a different night. Why do you ask? Well, on the night I was there there was a celebration of "La Quinceanera".
What is that, you ask? Ahh, glad you asked as I had to also. La Quinceanera is basically a "coming out" party for a 15 year old girl celebrating in the traditional Mexican way. That would certainly explain all the young people (and I mean young!) sipping soda around the bar all dressed up in their finest. I thought I had walked into the middle of a high school dance. For the few of us at the bar who were over the age of 15, I think the bartenders were relieved to be making real drinks as I think the onslaught of "kiddie cocktails" took them all by surprise!
Don't get me wrong. WXYZ bar located on the lobby level of the Loft hotel is a contemporary adult space. There are modern couches and chairs clustered around the fireplace as well as a full sized pool table in the one corner. The small bar located at one end has a light "show" that is constantly changing that I found more distracting than engaging. My favorite thing were the bar napkins that had word search puzzles on them- perfect if you are sitting by yourself.
This area opens up to an outdoor pool, so I can only bet how lively and fun this area could be in the Summer months.
A downside? The parking situation here is a bit of a maze. They block off the few parking spots in front of the hotel for the hotel van and expect you to park in the large parking garage shared with the Muvico theater. All fine and good except the parking garage is expensive (don't forget to get your ticket validated) and it's a bit of a walk if you end up in the wrong section. Follow the signs to "general parking" and park as far south as you can and you should be okay. If you go the wrong way- you will have to circle past the hotel and try the whole parking thing again.
Not a bad spot if you just want to grab a drink while waiting for someone's plane to come in at O'Hare or to grab a drink after a movie at Muvico. And hopefully on the night you go- the average age will not hover in those awkward teenage years!
Xyz bar is located within the entry way of this new underling hotel of the W Hotel chain. I didn't realize till seeing the website for the first time that this bar is a carbon copy. There's another just like it somewhere else!
The hotel and lounge give Rosemont some pizazz, some excitement and a difference in it's nightlife. Now after you've watched a movie at Muvico you can stop by here and get caught up in the neon, loungey feel and laid back tude of Xyz. Great place to chill, meet some travelers, music is just OK. Hadn't any time to check out the martini's, stuck to Blue moons, I suggest staying near the bar. The waitress I had on one particular night wasn't honest about my change, tall blonde and very young. I think she hoped I was drunk and would forget about my change. Blah!. This lounge is extended from the entrance of the hotel through common walkways so you can't miss it. I believe there was a pool table and many windows so that you can see into the pool area. A would be great spot for a pool party. I'm thinking there could be some bangin' swimsuit parties here in the summers to come.
Definitely stop into the bar after a movie, they share the same parking lot and anyway you can get your parking validated at both the theater and the bar. Don't forget, otherwise the $26 dollar parking fee could bite you in the ass on the way out.
