Can I jsut say how much I'd looooove to work here? Fresh salty air, view of the ocean and hello working outdoors??? I love coming here and sitting at the bar in my bikini and enjoying a rum runner and some good food. I tend to focus on just the tropical feel and drinks here than food. Next time I'll dive into something yummy! Best part is, if you parked on the beach, just walk on over. If you didn't.....well I don't know what the parking looks like up front since I usually am parked on the beach and walk over.
Review Source:Chase's has about 3 things going for it.
1. Free valet parking.
2. Great location.
3. Buckets for $10.
The negatives were pretty annoying. Â First, $5 to enter the pool. Â I don't really understand that... I would rather not pay $5 to enter a crowded pool where the only option was to join the water volleyball game. Â Second, the waiter was highly uninterested in our table, and smiled only to earn his tips. Â He was largely absent during our dinner, and that forced us to ask busboys and other waiters for assistance. Â They forgot to bring us lemons, cocktail sauce, and horseradish for our littlenecks. Â To one of the people in our group, it's like forgetting cheese on a pizza. Â They can only sit out so long before they begin to drown in the ice water. Â Our waiter never came back to check on us, so we had to awkwardly ask for help from one of the other uninterested employees.
For food, my husband and I ordered the "best thing on the menu" according to our waiter, the blackened fish tacos. Â I wasn't particularly a fan of the texture of the fish, it was a white fish and it was heavily seasoned. Â It wasn't nasty, but it wasn't spectacular either.
The only awesome person at the place was the man sitting near the exit to the beach. Â His personality made it bearable.
This is our go to beach place when we go to NSB (which to be honest is less and less). We set up on the beach then walk in to the bar area for drinks and occasionally a sandwich. It's too loud and brash to stay so we get everything to go. The pool is an interesting touch but no way I'm getting in. There is not enough chlorine in the world...
I imagine this is a GREAT Spring Break place but since I am past that time of my life I'll leave it there.
Great on the beach location. Â Parking is tricky, so they have valet, but tight nonetheless. Â
The food is actually good for a beach bar. Â I had the conch fritters and the sandwich, and was pleasantly surprised. Â
There is a pool in the center of the place and that can be OK, but take your chances with all the beer drinkers there, if you know what I mean.
Worth a visit.
Been here many times before and always seems to be good but never great. Â Nothing bad here and view is Excellent. Â We had the veggie wrap which was good nothing to write home about - had the Onion rings which rocked. Â Menu has changed a lot and so has management since original owner died some years ago. Â But for a beach bar vibe look no more. Â !n-Joy!
Review Source:I am no stranger to Chases on the Beach. It's pretty typical for my group to come in after a day on the beach for some lunch and drinks.
The best way to describe this place during peak season (Spring Break - Summer) is MTV Spring Break  1999. They have a large open air bar, patio seating, a second bar with additional deck seating, a dining area with patio tables and covered canopies on the sand, as well as a pool with deck chairs. The pool has a separate admission of $5, and during busy season they have either a dj or live music.
Wet T Shirt and booty dancing contests are not uncommon.
Food and drink prices are average for the area.
If you are from the area, you know this place as some what of a tourist trap.
My last visit was on 3/30/13. I will admit, we had put a few drinks back prior to going there, so my judgment on time and quality may have been altered.
My friend and I ordered a rum bucket at the bar and waited a few minutes for our table. Once we were seated we ordered the lobster bites as an appetizer and a pound of crab legs each. Everything tasted great! Crab legs were meaty. Our waiter then urged us to order some type of rum and sprite spritzer in a pitcher - sold. There were also jello shots at one point.
Needless to say when we left we were feeling no pain.
I normally try to visit Chases once a year for the view. Â The food is hit or miss. Â Yesterday I had a fish reuben that came without dressing and my onion rings had good flavor but were cold. Â I love sitting on the deck looking out at the ocean and they have really cold beer if you stick with bottles. Â The servers are friendly, but the place is always busy so be patient and enjoy the view.
Review Source:Jersey Shore, spring breakers and bikers all meet  on a Florida Shore.
Nice location, relaxing if you go early enough to enjoy the view
In short, I won't make it a priority to go back. Nice deck & view, right on beach. It stops there. Over fried foods, old grease with mostly fried foods on the menu. Stick to bottled beer. The mixed drinks were watered down and were half-assed concoctions.
Great place to come if your already drunk and not worried about a shooter girl trying to sell you test tubes of liquor during the later hours and parties. Something about that sounds so pre-pubescent. The pool in the bar is a nice touch, but there is just something about a bunch of  drunks in a pool, especially when I never saw anybody getting out to use the restroom??!?!
Would I return: NO
Would I recommend: Only for the location, if you want a beer.
This place is a hoot. We were staying on New Smyrna for a short vacation and just wanted to walk up somewhere for lunch in our bathing suits and this place hit the spot. It is full of tiki huts and island decor and there is a pool IN the bar. We enjoyed some ice cold beverages (try the skinny margarita - it is generously poured and tasted way better than a normal, syrupy margarita). Their raw oysters were huge and delicious. The Chases dip was good but not my favorite. The service was very good and the view is stunning...hilarious if you are watching people at the pool bar!
Review Source:I was at the beach and my wife & I decided to have some food and maybe a drink or two at Chases. It has been many years since I have been their. The place was 70% empty and I never saw a host to seat us we just got a seat ourselves. The waiter arrived shorlty and told us we needed to have a host seat us. Turns out the host is on the street side and you would never know that fron the beach SIDE ENTRANCE. So now he had me pissed off. Good way to make tips! Anyway,we ordered a chicken wrap and a fish sandwich and it was as awful as the rude service. I will NEVER go back!
Review Source:Oh no, Chases. What happened? You were my cheap booze joint..my yummy seared tuna spot.. but you have simply become another shitty bar with shitty food and weak booze. Why, Chases? What was once fresh tuna has now been kept in the freezer overnight and left to defrost hours before serving it to me. What were once strong margaritas have become melted, lime-flavored jollyranchers. What was once decent service is now.....non-existent service. Shame on you, Chases. Shame. On. You.
Review Source:I went to Chases on the Beach this January while visiting New Smyrna Beach with a friend for her birthday. It was very cold outside so we had the beach to ourselves! But we parked in the Chases parking lot, so I went in for a drink at the bar. I guess during the winter it's a local hang out. Because there was a small group of people watching the NFL Playoffs. 5 bucks for a Crown and Coke, not bad. I took a look around, they have a beach front bar next to a swimming pool that's set up for Volleyball. I have no idea what the food taste like, but this looks like the place to be during the summer months!
Review Source:This is a great place to grab a Mai Tai and watch the sunset! Â There is a huge patio and the staff here rocks! Â Craig is by far the best, so say hi to him when you pop by, he'll make sure your drinks stay filled and your conversation flowing the whole evening.
TWO BIG THINGS OF NOTE:
1) Â Hours vary big time here based on how busy it is, if it's slow, you may show up and find it closed, so just have a back up plan!
2) There is a pool with a volleyball net in one outdoor section of the restaurant so wear a swimsuit, you never know when you'll want to join the game!
So sad. :( Use to be my favorite place to go on a regular basis for the food, pool, and view..so when i came home for vacation and found out owners had changed and they changed everything about the place and not for the better, i was very disappointed. Menu is now extremely small and over priced. I literally got up and went elsewhere and will not be going back. I only give it a 2 star because the view is beautiful and the new owners did add some beautiful artwork to the building.
Review Source:Not a place to eat but great for a drink and for the views. Dj usually and people in pool playing vollyball..we went on a Saturday and they had 2 for 1 Kona beers. Orderd gator tail and it was o.k. Â Food is overpriced for the quality but its a fun place to go for drinks when it on the beach
Review Source:This is a great place to go after a hot day on the beach. The service was excellent and the beers were ice cold.
The only dissapointment is their food. I understand its bar food, but it's heavily fried. We got a sampler appetizer platter with mushrooms, onion rings, jalapenos and cheese sticks. I love these items fried but I felt that it was all batter and no food. We did see people eating burgers and sandwichs that looked great.
I would go here everyday, I just wouldn't order any food.
oooh i sure do love a gorgeous sunny Sunday here at the beach/Chases. Not a fan of the food selection, but drinks are great! Love the pool area...when its not infested with springbreakers/party animals... lol and we play a lot of volleyball on the net set up down on the beach! Lots of fun!
Review Source:The Food here is terrible and it's over prices. I ordered lobster bites and a half pound of over priced peel and eat shrimp. The Lobster bites were basically fried fish as far as taste goes and the shrimp were over steamed.
This place is more about the drinks and the bikinis by the pool. The food is for the birds.
I got to Chases to enjoy their food and drinks :) It can sometimes get a bit..."rednecky" if that's a term....but I feel like it's not the classiest place on the beach. BUT!!!! Â The food is delicious, not just typical bar food but actually good ingredients and very tasty. I also love the $10 rum buckets. They will definetly do "the job". I do not like that recently there is a $5 cover to go into the pool area on the weekends...i think that's pretty lame and hello...if you just paid to park on the beach...why would you pay to lay by a pool...I don't get it. Â So, yeah, need a nice ice cold beverage and some tasty treats to nosh on...go here! :)
Review Source:Went to Chase's for the first time EVER yesterday- don't know how I didn't know about it sooner.
Here are the goods, the bads, and the uglies:
Cons:
-I didn't eat here so I can't give you food feedback
-There was a cover to get into the pool
-The bartender was more interested in flirting with any male around here then serving drinks
Pros:
-Decent drink specials
-The cover was only $5 and it kept the pool from getting insanely crowded
-You get to be at the pool, at the beach
-Great band (I think their name was Run Rhino?)/ live music on weekends
-Pool volleyball (which I don't play, but was still a ton of fun to watch)
Great way to spend a Sunday funday, or in my case, a spectacular Saturday
As soon as you walk up to the place, you get the smell of trash. That's because their trash bins are leaking into the road and water systems and they aren't properly maintained. The wait was not bad and the waiters were friendly. When we were seated, the hostess had to shoo away the flies from our table. The flies stuck around the entire meal. The actual food was very bad. It was served in plastic containers like you might find at a carnival. I got the seared tuna and there was no flavor at all. It also had an odd fishy smell to it. My dad and sister both ordered the shrimp po' boy sandwich. When it arrived, it was not actually a po' boy, it was just a sandwich with shrimp on it and a slice of American Kraft singles. My boyfriend ordered some kind of pasta with Alfredo sauce but the sauce was more like soup and the noodles were very overcooked. We all had to drink heavily afterward to get the awful taste out of our mouths.
Review Source:Very nice atmosphere, the food we got was tasty and filling and having the beach just a few steps away was such a good deal. We arrived a little after 11 on a Saturday and parked right on the front.
If you wanted to swim in their pool it was an additional $5 but not sure if this is just a weekend deal. Got a table right beside the stairs leading down to the beach and ate some Jumbo Fish sandwiches  which really was huge and tasty. The blackened version looked a lot yummier than my fried one. Several friends ordered the bucket which is a mix of alcohol and quite tasty. Later for an early dinner we ordered lobster bites and a Chasers dip which probably would have tasted better hot. Each of the dishes cost $10 and were good.
Some of our friends enjoyed the poolside but we all enjoyed the lovely beach. Having Chases within walking distance was great!
It all started a few years ago when a guy named Chase went to buy a canoe.
Well that place where he went to buy the canoe is now a New Smyrna Landmark called Chases on the Beach. Ol' Chase is no longer with us as he passed away not to long ago. His restaurant has now been updated, revamped, refocused and some new menu items.
We ate there this past Saturday the 1st time of our Beach going season in Florida, and having been someone who has been to the place repeatedly in the past like almost every Sat and or Sunday when Summer Beach Weather permits I can tell you I LIKE all the changes.
There is almost always a bit of a wait to get a table but they move the process to get you seated fairly quick. Get a drink at the bar and people watch at the pool.
On the menu we started with the Lobster Bites and with that I started one of the best meals I have had there in years. The lobster bites were done to perfection with a light spicy chipotle sauce. Next up for me was the Jumbo Fish Sandwich which I had blackened with the side of sweet potato fries.
I park on the beach behind Chases. So it's easy access to drinks, chow, and restrooms and the beach when your done with dinner.
They also have free valet parking if you choose that instead of parking on the beach.
Chases is also one of the few restaurants that has a pool area. So if you want to just hang at Chases all day you can stay at the pool and drink and eat to your pleasure. Most weekends they have Live entertainment whether it's a DJ or a Band. Most of the time they are pretty good but like any live entertainment it's up to the person listening. Oh! and the pool is 21 and up only. NO CHILDREN are allowed in the pool area so make sure you are aware of that.
Next time your in New Smyrna or want to have a nice drive from Central Florida and have a meal on the beach I don't think you'll be disappointed with Chases on the Beach.
This place is purely for the atmosphere! No place better to have a drink on the beach.....
The food is very mediocre, which is SAD for a beach town restaurant! The peel and eat shrimp are alright, and the grouper sandwich is decent as well... But even those can be a hit or miss... now on the other hand, I have had some damn good bloody marys here!!
Stick to the simple stuff here, like the apps and pass on the entrees, and you can't really go wrong! :o)
OK...I went back but only for one of my best buddies visiting from Boston. Â So many people recommended Chases to her that she really wanted to go. Â I warned her that I had only been once and it was baaaddd. Â But you know how it is, a really good, old friend, I couldn't say no and so we went. Â She apologized for making me go. Â Everything was mediocre at best.
So again I say if you want to go look at the beach and have a cold beer go to Chases but if you actually want to eat... go some place else.
UNBELIEVABLE is all I can say. On our first day of vacationing in New Smyrna Beach, my husband and I had dinner at Chases on the Beach. To make a long story short, we will never be eating there and will not recommend this restaurant. We are usually very easy to please especially while on vacation. Our waitress came to our table and left before taking our complete orders. When we ordered items they were out of and we made our second choices, she told us that she would check on the availability of the items and let us know; that did not happen. My husband ordered a second beer that never appeared on our table. Our appetizer never graced our presence either. My glass was never refilled even though the table beside us was refilled twice before we left (and I was drinking the same drink). Our waitress did not check on us before we left. My husband's filet mignon was cooked way too long; it was tough and black rather than medium as he ordered. The mashed potatoes were gross! Finally, we requested the check, which was $46.xx for things we did not even eat. After our check was given to us, we waited at least 10-15 minutes before we asked another waitress to take the bill for us. Â Then, our waitress returned with our receipts. The atmosphere was ok, but it was next to the beach. Â The food was gross, and the service was awful!! Â We could not even find a manager to talk to about our experience. We just went to our hotel room and ordered pizza instead. :(
Review Source:The food is ok, (my bf got the $4 beer and a burger lunch deal and it was literally a basket with a bun with a piece of meat in it, no ketchup nothing... when you get a salad you check off boxes of all the different choices of toppings, which is kind of a neat idea) but its not about the food.... Its about the location. We ride our bikes here along the sand, walk up the stairs over the dune and sit outside. Last time they had a Sublime style cover band. They have a pool and a pretty nice outside bar. It stays pretty busy and is an enjoyable place to be!
Review Source:Read as 2.5 stars. Â I have yet to have a decent meal here, by decent I mean worth the price. Â The grouper (?) sandwich is pretty good, but the last time I ordered it, I suspect it was actually Basa, or some other catfish. Â Better places have been known to dupe the unsuspecting diner, so be warned.
The beer is cold, the atmosphere is beachy, and there's a pool in the restaurant. Â So, better than Meh, but not quite A-OK.
I love Chases because they have a huge deck and bar right on the beach. Â They also have a decent play area for kids and an outside shower to rinse off the sand. Â It's totally okay to show up in the bathing suit and a cover up...it's so casual anything goes. Â The food is adequate and the beach drinks are okay, but if you want a place to drink beer and enjoy the sun, Chases delivers.
Review Source:Chase's *IS* the beach, to me at least. Â I couldn't think of anything better. Â A great bar, good food (the blackened grouper sandwich is always a winner), a pool, plus a prime location on the beach with all the amenities needed. Â
There was a time where I would get a beachfront motel room for just the day to have a place to chill, eat/drink, shower, and swim on trips to the beach. Â Chase's solved the problem. Â It ain't fancy, but this is a beach town and it's the place to be.
If you go here on a weekend and its in the 80s , u will have an amazing time. Â I have been here half a dozen times in the last month. Â I drive my truck up to the back entrance on the beach, lay on the beach for a few hours and then hang out at the bar for lunch, happy hour, whatever. Â Great party atmosphere, B plus food but the atmosphere makes up for it. Â They have a pool, chairs, even a happy hour . Â I love this place, cigar friendly too.
Review Source:We had dinner and drinks here our first night on the beach. Â You can walk here on the beach from our condo or you can drive a short distance to get here. Â The bugs were relentless (I am a bug magnet) and I got several bites on my ankles but the food was decent. Â I had the crab cake and the clam chowder. Â Both were very good. Â I wish I had asked for the sauce on the side for the crab cake but that was only due to caloric intake, not taste. Â The beer selection left a lot to be desired. Â The mixed drinks were weak. Â The company was luckily intoxicating enough for the meal. Â You can't beat the convenience to where we were stationed.
