Chester Old Town Cafe

Homemade fresh Omelets, pancakes with real maple syrup, freshly baked items, burgers, sandwiches & soups.  Not a greasy mess.  Latte was good.   Service is very friendly but don't expect fast service.  Homemade delicious pies to go. We loved the boysenberry.  A find for Chester - owned by Carol from Carol's cafe at Prattville.

I have tried Chester Oldtown Cafe three times now, and finally give up. I was very excited when a cute new cafe went in to his location, and was opened by someone who knows the restraint business. But I have now been disappointed here times. Mainly, the service is utterly slow. The food is fine, but has been cold each time I went. It is also overpriced. My son ordered the special sandwich and he is 5 years old. He ate the whole thing and was hungry 20 minutes after we got home.  I was also surprised to see the waitress make hot cocoa out of mix from a bag. I expected more from a small cafe that has a coffee bar. They do however serve locally roasted coffee which is pretty good. also, if you are claustrophobic, this is not the place for you. But you will know that as soon as you walk in.

Was making the loop around Mt. Lassen (44 to 36) and needed a place to get lunch. We drove through the town, then turned around and came back to Old Town Cafe because we thought it was the coffee shop showed on Yelp. The signs outside made us think it must be the coffee shop. Turns out it wasn't the coffee shop, but it did have several choices for lunch. Cute & cozy, FRIENDLY service, and tempting menu choices. I had the portobello sandwich on their homemade focaccia bread and pesto/basil mayonnaise. DELICIOUS! Side was a salad with blue cheese dressing, another SCORE. Fresh baby greens with scrumptious croutons and veggies - I almost wished I had gone for their Cobb salad. Husband got the classic turkey with bacon. Had to wait a bit for them to cook the bacon (ordered everything to go) but we really weren't in a hurry anyway. Definitely a good choice and highly recommended!
