This place was pretty fun. We went on a Thursday evening right after work. My mom and stepdad were in town visiting and he smokes cigars. So this place seemed like a good fit. It was. He loved it. We had a great time sitting around having a few drinks and enjoying the atmosphere and company. The staff was very helpful and quick to respond if you needed anything. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good cigar and company.
Review Source:Let me preface my lower rating by saying, I would come here again. BUT:
1. Cover charge? Really? It was explained to me it was for the live music. Odd, the 'other' Cigar place in town doesn't charge cover, and they have live music.
2. Cigar prices. I saw $20 prices for Padron '64s. Those are $12-14 cigars at best.
3. First time in my life I have ever seen anyone use a measuring cup to measure out a glass of wine. If you're going to do that at least rinse it out so my wine doesn't mix in with whatever the last bottle was.
4. Last gripe. Matches. I have NEVER seen a place that charged for matches. I mean, this is your bread and butter! I didn't ask as I had my own, maybe they have cheapy/freebies but really, I have books and books and books of FREE matches from cigar places from all over the U.S. Not once was I ever charged for them.
Owners seem real sweet and nice, no gripe with them. Service could kick it up. I shouldn't have to go to the bar to get my own drink. What would be the point of tipping after that? Very nice atmosphere, like I said, I'd go again but com'on. Some of the basics for me kinda erk me. Very good cigar selection.
WOW! Â I rarely give out 5 stars but I was really blown away last night at Cigar Frogs. Â I'm not from Midland and only go there on business. Â What a great surprise(thanks to Yelp) when I found this great spot in downtown Midland.
I arrived around 7 o'clock on a Monday night and it was initially just me, the owner(Joe) and his wife. Â I was greeted with a warm welcome and saddled up to the bar. Â What a pleasant surprise to find such a diverse beer selection at a cigar bar and more so, at a bar in MIDLAND.
I ordered a beer and then selected my cigar. Â Joe let me borrow his cutter and lighter. Â He sat down next to me at the bar, lit up a cigar of his own and we BS'd for a little bit. Â People started rolling in around 7:30 or 8 and it remained a nice combination of lively and mellow.
After Joe tended to the other patrons he'd stop by my bar stool and we'd chat a little more.
This place is a truly a gem for Midland and I'll come back on all my future visits.
This well managed business in downtown Midland is most definitely a place you can take your out of town guests without being embarrassed or apologetic. The owners set the tone for a very upscale safe place to unwind and enjoy some time out. Nice selection of wines, beers and, of course, cigars. The patio is quite nice for those that do not indulge in smoking. Excellent place!
Review Source:I've been coming to Cigar Frog's for over a year now, usually every couple of months.
Generally the service is just alright, but the atmosphere and fact that the patio is less smoky than most normal bars is nice.
On of the constant small issues I see is the omnipresent cover, which while it isn't much its usually a little insulting since you can't hear it out on the patio which is where everyone goes and since the music is rarely good or interesting.
On the other hand the atmosphere is very relaxed and the patio is a great place to gather around a fire and get friendly. The wine list is only so so, with very few reasonable by the bottle offerings, which means constantly sending out new orders often for the same glass. The cigar collection seems very nice, from what little I know about that sort of thing.
Recently though I had a troubling, albeit still very fun experience. There was only one waiter for the entire patio area, which probably neared 50 people that night. This meant 20 minute waits between ordering and getting a drink. To top it off the first wine I ordered was served WARM, since the glass had obviously just left the dishwasher and the wine had either been corked or left open for an extended period of time. It had the aroma and taste of soy sauce.
I like this place, but it could use a little more tuning. A party of fifteen needs a more dedicated server.
We had a girl's night out last nite at Cigar Frogs. Â It was great...AGAIN. Â Except the live music really wasn't anything worth paying a $5 cover charge. Â G6 was the duo. Â They are ok. Not my cup of tea. Â Our waitress was attentive and the wine was great. Â My friend Rebecca & I tried a cigar called "Juicy Lucy"...we enjoyed it. Â Although we are not at all knowledgeable in cigars. Â The area by this place is beginning to look like a "big city". Â They are building lofts right next door. Â I hope they continue to develop the area.
Review Source:This is a GREAT addition to Downtown Midland! I hope they stay in business a long time. Â Whoever is buying one of those condo units next door is lucky LOL
Now just turn some of the abandoned buildings into residential and street level retail and DT Midland will be set..............someday
Cigar Frog's is a great place to spend an evening. Â The staff and owners are attentive and polite, not to mention speedy. Â The food is exceptional and the patio are is gorgeous. Â Prices on beers are good and any place that has Guinness on tap is great in my book. Â They even have a member's area that looked like it would be perfect for a stag-style function or after-hours business meeting. Â The live music was also great the night I went.
I can highly recommend checking this place out, it brings a normally big-city style establishment right here to our area. Â Do yourself a favor and take the guys or gals out for a night, you won't regret it.
Cool place, my friends. Â By looks or smell, there's no way anyone would know this was a cigar bar. It's very well ventilated for those interested in just tagging along for the sake of not staying in at home.
The back area has nice wicker seats which reminded me of the set of "The Golden Girls." But then again, everything reminds me of the Golden Girls. The tables all had built-in fire pits which were very cool. The waitress came, lit our fire (hehe), took our drink orders and promptly brought them out. They have a really great list of beer and wine, domestic and imported.
I later went inside and started talking about cigars with the owner. He gave me some good advice and talked to me quite a while. I'll definitely be returning soon.
