This place had excellent food. They let me split a meal and made us two plates. The peppercorn steak was very good. They had a cute bar and patio area. Waitress was friendly and was quick on any request.

Excellent wings, steak sandwich, beer, and service. I asked for their hottest wings and got something that was ridiculously hot but still very flavorful.

While staying at Peppermill we ran across the street for a quick beer & bar food. It was very good. We noticed they served breakfast. Our first thought was "yuck, breakfast in a bar." The thought of breakfast in a smokey casino was worse, so we tried it. It was delicious!!! Who would have thought? We had eggs,etc..delicious! The potatoes were unlike anything we had before....yummy!!! We are going to be in Reno for 3 mornings in September and look forward to 3 breakfasts at Clary's! (And of course the beer and bar food after a long day in the Reno sun!)

The atmosphere is a little weird. But they have deep-fried twinkies and oreos so I like this place. Although i will admit I havent been there in almost 2 years... So maybe the 3 stars is a stretch :P

Nice bar and grill, friendly employes and customers. Very good burgers. Lots of other choices on the menu that looked great plus daily specials. Will come back next time I am in town

My boyfriend and I discovered this place on accident. We planned to eat at the restaurant next door but they were closed. We decided to give Clary's a try & the rest is history! I recommend the Philly Cheesesteak with fries or onion rings, and the Steak Sandwich, and their burgers. Nothing that I've tried so far is bland. The lady that serves us, Chonne or Shawnee, is very friendly & accommodating. My boyfriend and I are regulars at this place. Definitely a must try!

we drove 500 miles for the deep fried bacon!!!!!!! Honestly, however. This would have been a five star if they didn't switch ownership..... Deep fried bacon not on menu but they made it cause it wasn't busy, also no penut butter stuffed burger :(

It was a double whammy for San Francisco sports fans - the Giants were playing in the NLCS and the 49'ers were also playing. I was staying across the street at the Peppermill and looking for somewhere besides the smokey casino sportsbook to watch the games. I decided on Clary's based on it's positive Yelp reviews and it's convenient location right across the street. The place was pretty full but I was able to score a prime seat at their circular bar where I had a good view of both the baseball and football games on the big screen televisions (they have 4 or 5 inside the bar and another on the outdoor patio area). Everybody was friendly and the bartenders were really nice and attentive - I don't think my beer glass was ever empty the entire night. They had a corned beef sandwich special that was probably the best I've ever had - served on marble bread with a perfect amount of horseradish and it came with a mountain of skinny french frys. My meal and 5 beers and shot only set me back about $33 with the tip. I had such a good time I ended up coming back the next two nights - having a delicious pepper steak special and cheese burger the following night.

Clary's is my new favorite spot in Reno!

Excited to try the unique menu, came in late on a Saturday night to find an empty bar. Ordered up some drinks and a food menu only to be told the kitchen closed at 11. Wha??
The frustration comes from the fact that nowhere does it say the kitchen closes at 11. But that immediately explained why there was only one table of customers at 11 PM on a Saturday night. This should be prime time for a 4+star bar.
Not so. Left without drinking or eating. Not impressed...probably won't try again either.

Theresa is an amazing bartender
She makes you feel like you are the only person in the bar. I ordered chicken wings and really enjoyed them. If you need a break from the casino this is a great place to visit. Local bar with very good food and even better atmosphere.

I asked for a stuffed burger, but the lone guy tending bar and serving food told me they stopped making stuffed burgers 8 months ago. The bartender told me if Im really hungry he can order one for me, but he assured me the standard burgers are big enough for him and he "can eat." Also, he mentioned that Clarys got TOP 3 burgers in Reno. I got a BIG mug of Sierra Nevada as my appetizer.

I got a salad instead of fries which was a MISTAKE. The salad was terrible. Forgettable. Terribly forgettable. I should have gotten fries.

At about 25% into my burger, I ordered a small bowl of chili.

I ordered a standard bacon blue burger.

I'm not sure if blue cheese melts...otherwise its a blue cheese "sauce"

The burger was good.
Chili was too salty, but otherwise good.

The tender saw the clean plates and approvingly said." wow, nice job."

It turns out that I too, "can eat."

After my burger and beer, I ordered a fried twinkie. It was surprisingly light and not too sweet. It was good and I would recommend it.

Post fried twinkie, I ordered a Colorado Bulldog. I was really trying to figure out how tenders make it and how much they charge. Obviously, I make mine way stronger and I save cash, but if you order a fried twinkie, you might as well get a bulldog.

I was charged 23.50 for this dinner. You get 3 bucks off any beverage when you get the burger combo. I thought it was a very fair deal.

All in all,its a nice little place to hang out and eat some good food at fairly reasonable prices.

Good service with a smile.

Small , but very nice and neat atmosphere.

We went for a breakfast on the weekend. Immediately inside the door this is clearly a Bar and grill. The focus here is bar. No low tables inside to eat at. But I think they do some outdoor dining at regular height tables. Like most bars it's a seat yourself place. And as we did a very friendly waitress familiarized us with the place and gave us the menus.
We had seen the menu online before coming down and were interested in the different benedicts that they offer. My wife immediately ordered the French Toast Benedict, I ordered the house made Corned Beef Hash, my daughter ordered a basic breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes and a biscuit. My son ordered up an omelet. We all loved our meals. Nothing was over $9. Did you read that? NOTHING was over $9. Oh wait, that also includes tax. Yes the prices on the menu are tax inclusive.
Our food came out very quick. Hot. And very good. Nothing to complain about at all. My wife liked the French toast Bene. You could really taste the flavor of the toast under the other ingredients. Nice and light Hollandaise sauce. My house made corned beef hash was well worth getting, one point worth noting is this was wasn't a greasy mess like many corned beef hashes can be. My picky eater daughter said "I could come back and eat the eggs and biscuit for sure!" My son, a boy of few words finished his food without comment.

I also ordered a Bloody Mary and at $5 it was totally worth it. I tasted the alcohol as well as the spicy goodness of the home made mix. In fact the waitress informed us that they try their best to make everything in house from scratch. Including their mixes. I guess that means we will be heading back for some other drinks to see just how far they really go.

We will return for a burger. We will return for some more drinks. And we will take friends back for breakfast.

One last note. Just want to note that this place proves that breakfasts can be made affordable and good and filling in Reno. This is a lesson many other places need to take note of.

The partners from PJ's split and one of them recently bought Clary's. The new ownership is very obvious as the food is leaps and bounds better than it was when it first opened! Six of us went for breakfast and we were so pleasantly surprised as to how great the food was. The eggs benedict is one of the best ive had in town. The hollandaise is perfect and not too heavy as it sometimes is. A few people had the french benedict which is served on french toast instead of an english muffin and said it was outstanding. The breakfast potatoes were crisp and well seasoned. They only serve breakfast saturday and sunday until noon i believe. The service was friendly and attentive and i thought the prices were very reasonable! I think the most expensive item was $10.

Very nice bar. What makes it stand out is the service. The bartender was on top of everything. This is a place I will remember when I need to take business colleagues out for a drink after work where you can actually hear yourself (and them) but is classy enough.

Totally cool and fun restaurant/bar! Our server was super cool, checked in on us regularly (probably too regularly judging from my hangover this morning!). He had a tangerine wheat beer that was delicious and the perfect end to a not so fab day at work. I had the special - a sirloin steak with a green peppercorn sauce. It was slightly overcooked, but that's okay, it had great flavor. The mashed potatoes were perfect, they still had chunks of potato in them, which is always a plus for me (I can tell they are real!). The fresh veg really tied the meal together - zucchini and carrots, mmmmm. My husband had the Philly Cheesesteak and declared it delicious. We spent a few hours here, enjoying our tasty adult beverages and talking about our day. Hip and chill hangout where no one pressured us to leave.

This place kicks ass. Beats the heck out of casino food (we have been staying at the Peppermill for a month, I might mention!).

As others have mentioned, this place is kind of hard to find, but if you see Ruby River Steakhouse, you're in the right place. If you're facing the street, it's the building to the left of the steakhouse. At first glance, it looks pretty sketchy, but don't let that deter you from going in. Once you step inside, you'll find it's a pretty standard bar type atmosphere. The bartenders are very friendly, and they'll check up on you to make sure you are completely satisfied. We ordered two burgers with fries for dinner, and my boyfriend had a Colorado Bulldog for a drink. Burgers were cooked perfectly, and all the toppings were great. Bill came out to a total of $22, amazingly cheap. We left a generous tip for the great service. It's definitely going to be a regular spot for whenever we stay in Reno.

If you haven't yet tasted the New England Clam Chowder at Clary's, you have missed what may be the best Clam Chowder on the planet...it's the best Clam Chowder in my experience. This creamy, chunky Chowder is only available on Fridays, but definitely worth the trip. Service is always prompt and friendly. Drinks are generous. A vegetable garden in the glass makes the Bloody Marys even zingier. This is a great spot for lunch or drinks with appetizers or dinner. Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday is even more special with the owners' homemade sausage patties. Clary's is simply a great place for food and drinks served by owners who want you to enjoy your time at Clary's and come back again...and again.

I've eaten here several times, and I always leave happy. It's not frilly, and when you walk in, you'll wonder if they even serve food at all (it just looks like a typical bar), but the food has always been good and the service is excellent.

It's a pretty diverse menu, but in my experience, the best foods here are the bar foods-- great burgers and sandwiches. Their take on the grilled cheese is the king of comfort food, and the parmesan-crusted turkey and avocado sandwich is delicious! Also, for the big eater, they have stuffed burgers (which is what my husband always orders) and a plethora of stuffing options to satisfy anyone with a large appetite and an adventurous streak.

All that said, there are a few hiccups. There is typically only one person staffing, and while the service has been prompt in my experience, there is less oversight on the food and sometimes the orders are wrong. However, when that happens, we've been more than fairly compensated with comped meals, free shots, and drink/appetizer coupons.

This is a great place to go for beer and bar food on a laid-back evening.

My boyfriend and I were staying in the Peppermill Hotel directly across the street and I had seen this on http://Restaurant.com once before. I never bought the coupon but I looked at the Menu. Just look I dare you!!! Well we went for food only because all our Mai Tai's are comped out at Peppermill. Immediate impression "Are they serving food still" Small place about 7-8 circular bar tables with 2-3 chairs a piece. And video poker at the bar about 10 seats.

The female bartender was doing her thing conversating with her clients. We are always in and out quick so after about 3 min, my boyfriend politely went to the cook who was hanging out in the main area and asked if food was still being served. He barely understood "It's totally ok with me" but gave us menus. We double checked what we wanted, bartender came over. We are so particualr so when she didn't write down our orders I got scared. So I ordered Hot Pastrami on a Hoagie instead of rye and cheddar instead of swiss. Blue cheese salad on the side. My boyfriend got the Argus a French dip with non of the peppers or onions on top. We were so surprised we will go back again.. I had a leftover 1/2, since we have nothing to heat it I used the to go foil and the iron and had the best panini ever.

Went in with my mother for lunch because we had heard about their amazing stuffed burgers. The burger was VERY good, and HUGE, I could only eat half of it. I definitely want to come in with my husband on a game night, this is a great little bar. Huge drink menu as well as friendly staff. I never knew this place existed. Check it out!

Great place, went there around thanksgiving for lunch. Waitress was super nice. Will repeat next time we're in Reno and stay at CC.
Only thing negative is they don't carry the steak and pawns showed on restaurant.com's menu. Little disappointed.

Best Bloody Mary EVER.

Not to mention they have a Monte Cristo sandwich! I could have died of happiness in all that beautiful fat.

Bartender is super sweet (Theresa??) and the owner is a pretty cool mountain man.

It's also a plus that the people that come into this establishment have all their teeth and most likely no warrants for arrest.

Holy b-Jesus! Deep fried sliders?!?! Deep fried oreos?!?! Deep fried twinkies?!?! Great White on tap?!?! This place is from HEAVEN! Went there with a 4 friends (5 of us total) and we ate like no other. We went to Scruples and the rude bitch waitress pissed us off so we left (Bad Scruples... BAD)... The food here is amazing! The wait staff and cook are awesome and the place is really clean and shiny on the inside. I would recommend this place to anyone who has a hankerin' for some deep fried yummy goodness.

Clary's is NOT child friendly. NO high chairs. The chairs suck! They are terribly uncomfortable! The food is ok. The cute blonde bar tender was decent but the food is WAY over priced. $11.50 for three small pieces of frozen fish and a small amount of fries?? Not for lunch! Not here. The building is cool and they should built some comfy booths along the curved wall.

Clarey's Bar & Grill
2780 S Virginia Street
Reno, NV 89502
823-9444
Hours: Daily 10:30am-Close

This bar radiates a friendly "Cheer's" ambience as incandescent as bartender Holly Baker's disposition. She generously served me several samples off the menu such as the Basque-esque Pecan Punch, the quirkily titled Pernipherous Cocktail, and the won ton appetizer. From this ample spread, The Key Lime Martini was my top selection. The main ingredient, Licor 43, was an outstanding choice for this recipe. Its rich vanilla front and citrus finish lends to a flawless Key Lime Pie flavor that Clarey's rightly boasts is "just like mom never made."

Key Lime Martini
1 1/2 oz Licor 43
oz Roses Lime
oz Cream

Tip! All appetizers are half price on Holly's Tuesday evening shift making them a steal at five bucks or less.

I love this place. Have gone twice and both times I enjoyed the food and the service was very good. Have one of those coupons online and I'm very happy I tried this place. Very clean place. It's right across from the Peppermill . Though I haven't eaten outside there looks like there is a outside patio area. Just went last night and had the steak sandwich and it was very good. Not too sure if it doesn't beat Bullys. My husband has had the stuffed burger twice and could only eat half of it. He saids it's one of the best burgers he's ever had. You have a choice of fries or green salad with the burger or sandwich. We had fries. They were good , you get alot. Happy with the food and service. Will be going back for a third visit soon.

The worst Food and Service in Reno! I not only hated the chicken I received, but my friends Steak was Burnt!!! I found my self sicker than a Dog on the next day. Lets move on to the service. There was one couple who walked out because their burgers came out 1 hr later! The other couple who came in shortly after us was served 45 mins later, for Burgers! Us, well 45 mins for Chicken Parmesan and a Steak. I would not recommend to my worst enemy. Beers might be good but Food Eaters Beware.

Standard bar food. I'd eat here if I was in the area but I wouldn't drive here just for the food.
I got an Old Rasputin beer on tap, a hamburger stuffed with peanut butter and the deep fried bacon.
The bacon was nothing special. It's dipped in a beer batter. It was cooked properly but not much going on flavor wise.
The burger was big, a pound. They take two half pound patties and let you pick from several ingredients that they put between the patties. Peanut butter was the most exotic. It's not Jif or Skippy. Think old fashioned peanut butter. It was interesting to try once but I don't think I"d do it again. I liked getting the nice sald instead of fries with the burger.
The bill came to almost $25. Seemed to be a bit much.

Popped in a few days ago to check out the space,
I was wondering where the cook from Pierces had gone, (thanks Sarah.) I hope they use good buns like Pierces has.

I like Clary's, I used to go there once in a while when it was Foleys....

The menu looks great but I only had a beer this visit, but I will be back in the next few days for food.

Lots of good stuff to try,

I went to Clary's after a friend had recommended them this past Saturday to break up all the Xmas shopping I was doing. I got their 1 pound stuffed burger. They have a few options for the stuffed burgers but I opted to make my own stuffed with jack cheese, bacon and peanut butter. After having peanut butter on a burger at a another Reno joint it's certainly becoming a favorite of mine.

The burger was good but a little over done. I know it's a huge think patty but I would of liked it more if it spent a little less time on the grill. The fries were good as well. Overall I would recommend this place for a bite to eat, they also had a nice beer selection on tap. Always a plus.

Rounding up.

I like the entrance to Clary's with the pretty wrought iron gate/door. Raised my expectation of the interior, rounded the corner and deflated a little. Not that it was bad, but it was more bar and less grill than I anticipated. It's a pretty small space, squared bar in a rounded room with some high pub tables and 3 or 4 flat screens a little awkwardly placed due to the low ceiling.

Menu was intriguing. salads, appetizers, sandwiches, and a few entrees. I ordered the zucchini appetizer and a chicken ceasar salad. I know, boring. They had a few deep fried items like "bacon rings" and they have monte cristo and a battered and fried burger. Maybe next time after I spent all week at the gym. heh.

The zucchini was excellent. Not the usual frozen bulk bar snack. battered and fried fresh zucchini spears brushed generously with garlic butter and shreds of parmesean. One of the yummiest zucchini spears I've ever had. My partner didn't want to split an appetizer but I ordered it anyway thinking I'd take leftovers home but he polished it off declaring it delicious.

My chicken ceasar wasn't very good. The dressing was strangely grainy and the flavor was lacking too. Dressing was a little too creamy and bland, mayo based I'm guessing. It wasn't terrible but I'd never order it again. They have a lot of appealing looking sandwiches and burgers so I'll go for one of those next time.

My 5 stars are based on drinks and atmosphere only as I have not tried the food yet.
I was excited to see this place open because the owner was our favorite bartender from the Sparky's in Northwest Reno and the cook came over from Pierce's Pub.
Clary's is right across the street from the Peppermill and shares a parking lot with Ruby River Steakhouse. The place is hard to spot if you don't know what to look for, but like Ernie said, it's in the round building.
The outside patio is great - nice patio cover with electric space heaters hanging from above, plenty of umbrella-covered tables and chairs, and smoking is allowed outside.
Besides your typical bud light, coors light, guiness that most places have on tap, Clary's also has Great Basin Icky, Lost Coast Brewery Tangerine Wheat, and other lesser known beers on tap. The owners are still working on drink specials and choosing the types of atypical liquors.
There are only two bathrooms - 1 for guys and 1 for girls. For a bar, I would have gone with more, but considering the space, this might not have been feasible.
Most times I have come in here it was been busy, but not crowded. However, we went the night of the UNR/UNLV game and it was packed! We stupidly left our table and 5 minutes later when we came back, someone else had already snatched it up, but luckily there were a couple of seats at the bar.
Ernie had mentioned that there are cutouts for slot machines, but no machines yet. I want to confirm that, yes, they are getting machines, but they are waiting on the gaming license.

DEEP FRIED BACON!

Okay, now that I have that out of my system . . . I went here for lunch after hearing from a friend that they were now open and they had deep fried bacon.

So, first things first, I had to try the deep fried bacon rings - not really rings, but sharing the same batter as the onion rings. They were delicious, but not perfect. A bit less batter may have pushed them to perfect.

I was an all out glutton and ordered the deep fried burger as well, as I'd never had a deep fried burger. Super moist. The bun was a bit lacking, but the steak fries were a great, golden brown.

The building is pretty unique, with the side of the building facing the street being a large semi-circle. Inside, they've gone with the standard dark colors and woods. The bar dominates the center of the room, with about 16 seats, and there 8 high tops along the windows that line the semi-circle.

The place was pretty busy for being open such a short time, probably a dozen people or so, making the place comfortably full. There's also a patio on the side of the building that looks pretty nice, with a high fence to hide Virginia St.

The bar appeared to have cut-outs for gaming, so I'm not sure if they're waiting on the machines or what . . .

Next time I stop in, I want to try one of their stuffed burgers (1 LB of beef and starting at $11).

They have a full copy of their menu online as a PDF, which is nice. Prices seem to be maybe a dollar more per item than a regular bar and grill, but the food seems to be a notch better as well. My burger and fries were $9 . . .
