We went in March and it was still snowing a little. It was very cold in the evening. As soon as we were walking downstairs into the bar area, we threw off our jackets and other fussy winter clothes. This cellar is actually the basement of the building. I guess they didn't want to name it Clocktower Basement. Anyway, the full bar has an extensive amount of liquor. I ordered the Conemara neat and the bartender gave me a nice pour each time. The bar sets a laid back tone with their game/arcade section, not so low lights that you can't see the face of other people, and friendly staff. The only downside is that it can get crowded and super hot. If they can just adjust the room temperature, I'd give them a whole 5 stars!

I dunno what to say about this place... a few mixed feelings, but in the end I always come back.  Must be because there aren't too many choices... here are my thoughts:

    Likes:
    1)  convenient location and if you come around 6pm, there is parking available.  (who goes at 6pm you ask?  read dislike #1 below)
    2)  they have foosball and a pool table.  The pool table is usually crowded but you can find your way to play foosball no problem.
    3)  a wide assortment of beers and whiskey spirits if you are into those drinks.  Who knew there is a clear whiskey?  Called New Try, but don't.  it wasn't good.

    dislike:
    1)  closes at 10pm-ish... really?  I guess you need to come in early to enjoy the join.  It gets pretty busy around 8pm anyways.
    2)  pretty crowded and hard to get a drink at the bar... why they don't have another bartender on weekends, I don't know.

    *in the end...
where else can you go and walk in casually, and meet up with friends for a few rounds with some foosball to play?  the Clocktower isn't a miss, but it's A-OK.

This is the coolest place in Mammoth for apres libations.  My buddies and I have been coming here for years.  It has changed a bit over the years, but at its heart, it's still the same ol' Clocktower.

In it's present incarnation, it is a whiskey bar, with over 100 different whiskies from which to choose  I come for the beer, and there was a time when this was the only place in town to get something other than a Macro-brew.  They always  have a decent selection of domestic craft brews, German, British, and Belgian Imports.  They always have PBR on tap if you prefer weak yellow beer.  The also have a few bottles of Bud Lite for the girls and girly-men. They also serve wine and its not cheap crap.  They were pouring William Hill Cab on my last visit.

Over the years, their small kitchen has been open and closed.  It is presently open, and they are putting out some tasty burgers and other sandwiches.  Food means that kids are now allowed in...oh, well.

The juke box is packed with Old school Punk, Classic Rock, and 80's and 90's indie rock.  I always play Cake's "Stick Shifts and Safety Belts" on the first night and The Rev. Horton Heat's "Eat Steak" on the second night.  If you hear one of those playing, look for me at the bar!

This place is chill and I luv it! If you just want a place to hang with your buddies, drink some good whiskey or brandy, watch a sports event, play some Foosball, and talk to the friendly bartender who knows his stuff, then this is the place to go!

I will never go back. Terrible service. A group of my friends and I went there and accounted for half of the customers in the bar yet we still couldn't get service. The bartender talked to her friends and ignored our order for 30 minutes. Even after we got our flat pitcher of beer, they tried over charging us for food we didn't order. It took the manager, bouncer, and bartender to figure out our right order. They're the only bar in town and take advantage of the tourists that want to get a drink after skiing on the mountain.

Not a single complaint. We stopped in for a drink an appetizer during a week of camping. Awesome beers on tap (and a knowledgable bar tender who knew about them). Had the tachos, and granted we were starving, but we were just short of licking the plate.
Good prices, good service, good eats. Excited for an excuse to come back.

Great little bar/pub right across the street from the Village. A popular locals spot (and you know if they go there it's for a reason). Kinda small but I would prefer to call it cozy. They have several flat screens, foosball tables, and a pool table for additional fun, plus an older (but working) jukebox machine (25 cents/song). Since its down in a basement it can get really hot and stuffy, especially if the bar is full, so dress accordingly! Tons of whiskey options. If you're hungry, be sure to order the Totchos...you'll see why ;)

Lesson of the day: there's only 1 cook in the kitchen.

Aka, if you overwhelm him with 8 orders of food from your rowdy crew (5 burgers, 1 reuben, 1 pulled pork and 1 chilli cheese fries), it's gonna take heck a long time to get your food.

But while you wait, there's a gazillion (yes that's the exact count) different whiskeys to appease anyone's palate on call. My BF said he even saw a Blue Label hanging out in the back. Decent pours at reasonable prices. If you're not a whiskey fan, there's also plenty of draft and bottled beer options and other liquors.

Now that you've drank yourself silly while you waited for your food and lost a couple games of foosball, it's gonna be a damn good tasting burger on a preztle bun!

This is definitely the "hippest" bar in Mammoth...in a good way. They are primarily a whiskey bar and have just about everything you could ever want in that regard. They have a small selection of other spirits and good beer as well. It is downstairs in a basement and seems to be a pretty good escape from the overly touristy-ness of the bars in The Village even though it is located right across the street.

The friendliest pub/bar in Mammoth Lakes!  Every time I go to the Clocktower, I meet friends that I never knew I had.  The selection of real ale is top-notch, and if you're a whiskey drinker, this is Nirvana.  I met the owners tonight, and they are down-to-earth locals who are just as quick to roll up their sleeves and change a keg as they are to make sure that I'm having a good time, a good pint, and a good meal.  Sitting down here is like sitting down in your local pub...a Mammoth experience not to be missed.

I was here in the off-season, so it wasn't very crowded, which I prefer.  Wonderful constantly changing draft craft beer selection 26 in total. (There are a few crappy beers on draft too, if you're into that.) The Reuben was great.  Service a little slow considering the few people in the place, though I think the bartender was just being friendly and giving me some space. If you like whiskey, this is definitely the place to be.

Excellent beer selection and friendly vibe.  Get the totchos.  Don't debate it, just do it.  They are awesome.

The service was nice - The place was empty.
The burger was meh - pretty dry. They insist on pushing tater tots but I don't quite understand why - Tater tots are blend and boring.

Also giving it two stars because the beer I ordered (on tap) was flat. Stick to bottled & canned beer!

The chef came and took our order personally--really great guy.  Comfy atmosphere & kid friendly....BUT the food and drinks are hit and miss.  My guinness came FLAT and the tots/chicken tenders, fish & chips all seemed especially greasy and lacking flavor.  My fish tacos had piles of cabbage and some kind of interesting sauce on it, and of the things we ordered, we all agreed I'd gotten the best dish.  My husband ordered the rueben, which came with dried out meat and stale chips.  Meh.  With a total of 3 beers and the food named here, our bill came to slightly over $60.  Worth it?  I don't think so.

What a fun pub! My husband and I were staying above the pub in the Alpenhof Lodge, and one of the best parts of our stay was hanging out here. They have loads of beers on tap and even more available on the menu. The staff was really friendly and we had a lot of fun chatting with them and learning about the area. They also have a fairly extensive menu of pub food, and my husband and I enjoyed the tater tots. One of the best parts was how inexpensive the bar was. Beers and other drinks are very reasonably priced, as is the food. For Mammoth visitors who want to visit someplace relaxed and friendly, I would recommend the Clocktower Cellar!

Favorite bar in Mammoth. No douchey kooks or yups found at many of the other "establishments" in town. Great beer selection if you're a connoisseur and they got they likka license this past year and now have a decent selection of good whiskeys and scotches. Always good punk rock on the jukebox and pretty attentive bartenders. Definitely a local bar without the cocky "local" elitist vibe. Fun times at the pool table and lotsa good drunk memories stumbling home from the Clock back to ze ghetto. Werd it up peoples!

Wow, the German Reuben is quite the impressive display. It's one of those items that makes everyone around you look over in awe and say, "I'll have what he's having."

Not even close to the best Reuben I've had, but for the price, portion, and location, it's hard to top.

I also really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Friendly crowd, friendly staff, and such a huge beer selection.

Look for the entrance on the side of the building. I would've never found this place without Yelp...

You win, Clocktower Cellar Pub. You win.

    What a great time!

They have like a gazillion beers on tap.  When we went (right when they opened at 5pm) it was great and chill.  We had plenty of microbrews and tried their Totchos.  Don't do it.  They are soggy and gnarly.    Only order them if you are super shit housed and craving grub.

Don't half step.  Come here for a no frills, local vibe.

Its refreshing to be able to buy a large pitcher of really good beer for only about $8. Those days are gone where I live. This was the best drinking spot we encountered during our stay in town. It's a local, low key spot sharply contrasting the LA-Vibe place just across the way.  No frills, cheap fun.  Jeez, I even saw a little kid in there with his parents which was kind of weird.  But to each his own.

One of the few cool spots in Mammoth for Apres! I really really really am very reluctant to write this review b/c I don't want anyone to know about this place! So, if you are a douche-bag, please don't come here and ruin it for the rest of us! Thank you!

Starting this season, they are now serving hard liquor, so you can blackout sooner rather than later. Ambience is very cool, everyone is really friendly and that's not because I'm hot... jk. This is the locals hangout, so lots of patrons are people who work on the mountain, and then the rest of us are semi-locals (definition: we are in Mammoth every weekend for 5 months straight).

Please leave your drama outside the door, because this place is too cool for that!

This bar and a couple bars across the street in the Village were the only things going on in the weekend I was here. It's a small space, so it's standing room only when the town is crowded. They have all the standard big brand beers; I didn't look into what microbrews they have, but we did try a decent "Mammoth" ale. We also had some wings which were nice and spicy. If you want to sit at a table, you'll have to come early as there are precious few - not a bad way to meet people, we shot the breeze with a few nice looking ladies desperate for somewhere to sit. They also have some arcade games and a foosball table, but after a few drinks and lack of experience, I had my ass well handed to me by my friend at the foosball.

Love this place.  Beer and whiskey bar (with other spirits as well)  I probably spend way too much time here....but it has a mellow vibe with friendly people.  Great happy hour, and they just expanded their kitchen so now they have more than just corndogs and tater tots (don't worry they still have both!)

They also have a pool table, and foosball! Can't really go wrong here.....

Great little basement bar in Mammoth.  Great beer selection and a nice staff.  They even have a pool table.

We spent a couple hours here on one of our nights in Mammoth and I was very happy.  The beers run from the expensive and strong micros down to the lowly but favorite PBR.

In a town like Mammoth with the SoCal vibe, this place is decidedly more low key and chill.  There was definitely a locals vibe in this place.  I'd for sure hit this place on another trip out to Mammoth.

The pub is located on the basement floor of the Alpenhof Lodge. It's very low-key bar with a good selection of beers on tap. Definitely a great place to just chill with friends. They have a jukebox, foosball table, pool table, darts, and Ms. Pac Man! Check the attitude at the door and just have a great time here with the locals.

Stopped in the Irish bar across the street for a beer and asked the bartender where to find a punk rock juke box in town. Without hesistation, he suggested the Clocktower Pub just down the street. We decided to make that a stop on the next night's events.

Upon arrival, we noted the cozy feel and good vibe of the place.
"Beer and wine does me fine but it doesn't always do..."
Good thing they had Lagunitas Brown Shugga on tap: 9.99 % abv works for me. They had a very large craft beer selection, both on tap and in bottles. Large enough to keep any beer snob happy. The staff was great and were happy to talk about the beers and ans any questions.

We'll def be back next time we're in Mammoth.

There is nothing special about the bar itself and it's outdated TV's but the jukebox has an endless selection and the beer almost matches it. At first I saw 4 taps and it wasn't until a minute later that I saw how many taps they had and most were craft beers, some that I've never seen before at a bar. I think this is a good place to unwind after a long day.

Had a great St. Paddy's day here, free t-shirts to the first 100, $6.50 for corned beef and cabbage and they had Guiness and Murphy's stout!  Right next to Burgers' across from the village.  Huge beer selection, pool table, foosball tables, stools and one very long picnic table.  More of a local hang out with out all the old ski's and snowboards bolted to the walls, we already know what Mammoth is about.  The place to hang out after skiing/snowboarding (

This was my favorite hang out. The only downside was their early last call well before the stroke of midnight. Boooooo! Not on a weekend night!

They had a great selection of domestic and imported draft beers to keep me busy. Good stuff. I can't wait to come back and play some pool. I just have to remember to come earlier in the evening.

This is exactly what we were looking for last night (around 9 PM on Friday).  Regular bar, foosball, pool, tons of beers, room and a mellow vibe.

Didn't have much time to hang, but seems like a good spot and we'll be back!

Clocktower! goodtimes. Beer and wine only but always good fun. Definitely a local hang out. Next time you're in town check it out. Only downfall is the early last call. Like 11 pm they are done!

This has to be the local hangout because everyone knew everyone.  The place was packed.  Huge crowds on the Foosball table, drinks flowing with the dozens of beers they had on tap.  The place felt like it was out of Animal House with the empty kegs just stacked by the door and the roof adorned with keg tops.

There were great couches everywhere as well as plenty of seating, which was pretty cool in the little cozy spot such as this.

Of all the places we drank at, Clocktower was the best by a mile.

This is the best bar I've been into, ever.

I've come to this conclusion for a variety of reasons. The most important, of course, is the beer selection, particularly what is on tap. My last trip up there found me with a pint of Hoegaarden. I've downed barley wine there before. They usually have at least three local brews on tap. At the same time, they have the cheap stuff that many people are stuck on.

Next reason this place rocks: the people. Maybe it's because of the heavy dose of level-headed locals, but I've never been in here and not had interesting and friendly conversation with someone else at the bar. I think part of the reason for this is because it's not a pick-up joint. This isn't a place to score a one night stand, but to hang out with friend and down a pint or two or .... The laid-back atmosphere means you can enjoy yourself.

The bartenders rock. They know their stuff. They don't pour a Belgian into a stein, they know how to treat all the brews they have. I've never felt put-off by any of them, no matter how busy. And they can offer good suggestions in navigating through their massive selection.

And finally, the environment itself. The basement location is nice. All the games, from foos ball to pool to video games. And the music on the juke box has some old school classics like Fugazi as well as more recent stuff to please the younger folks.

Walking in here was like walking back ten years of my life into a favorite college bar. The air was damp with a musty smell (too much snow from outside melting on the floors), the boys were young, plentiful and mountain fresh and all they serve here is beer and wine. Ski Lodge rock was playing loud over the jukebox speakers (yeah I'm talking to you Nickleback) ...and a sit-down Ms. PacMan!   Sigh....

All the locals come here after a day of work up on Mammoth and the place clears out and moves on to another pub across the street around midnight.  It's laid-back and no frills so if you really want to get a taste of the real mountain flavor, head down (literally, its in a basement under the Alpenhof Hotel) and have a few of the ridiculous many choices of beers (My fav name: Pink Elephant).

The Clocktower Cellar is quite easily the best bar in Mammoth Lakes.  When I first started skiing at Mammoth about ten years ago, I entered Whiskey Creek and was turned off by the yuppies there and then I crossed the road and discovered the side door of the Clocktower Cellar, to the left of the hotel entrance, and I have been coming here ever since.

There are over 30 different beers on tap and 50 bottled beers.  The bar offers beer, wine and sake but NO spirits!   The bar resembles a college sports bar and the clientele are people who work for the Mountain, locals and tourists.  There are several TV screens so people can watch sports.  There's a 100 CD jukebox with a huge variety of music, although I find that the music of the Saddletramps is very popular.  There's also darts, computer games, pool and football. They have a Happy Hour in the late afternoon and they also offer pub food like wings and fish and chips.

If you are the type of person who spends time looking at the European beer section of Bev Mo or Whole Foods Market, this place is just right for you.

****Don't bring your LA vibe here cause it won't fly with the skiers!*****

This used to be my favorite place to go for a bar in Mammoth but the last time I went there I was a little annoyed. I came in with a group of people that had all been drinking and we were a little too much for this place. So I kinda blame myself, although the bouncer was a complete jerkoff.

The best part about the Clocktower  is the darts and the great selections of beers. I'm a sucker for hefeweizen on tap.

Wine and beer only - this is where the locals go because the tourist have no idea it exists!

Kidding; this bar is literally in the basement of the Alpenhof Hotel on Minaret - don't let the Google map fool you; it's right across the street from the village.

The bar is full of the young set having beers, shooting darts, playing pinball and hanging out. It's got a great vibe, is super laid-back and is sort of a secret hiding spot if you don't want to deal with the escalating so cal vibe of Mammoth's nightlife. As a bonus, they sell some fine Belgian ales.

Look for the door on the side of the building, and watch your step on the stairs or you'll make a grand entrance!
