It's just not my scene....so I'm trying not to let that bias my review too much.
You'll meet a colorful crowd here on some nights. It gets busy but the staff is well equipped to deal with it. I've never seen anything too outrageous happen here. I've been here when it's nearly empty and when it's packed to the rafters.
The DJ is usually pretty engaging and having fun with the people in the club. I've never felt "unsafe" here, even when I'm alone...some of the bars in Burlington I have felt uncomfortable as a young woman alone. There are OK drink specials some night, depending on what you want. It's a little loud, and often smells stale. It's fun every so often though...
Meh is about right. I've been dancing here a few times on retronome nights because there aren't a lot of options for dancing in Burlington. My most recent 90s night adventure was pretty good, but that was more to do with the people I went with than the "club" itself. Drinks are affordable and my G&Ts were only $5 that night. Nice and strong, too, unlike Higher Ground. The DJ was okay, and 90s night meant 90s and early 00s, but hey, it was fun. It wasn't super packed when I got there at 11:30ish, but it was getting that way around 12:30. By 1:30, when we left, it was a serious mess. Sloppy drunk people everywhere making bad life choices and almost throwing up on a friend of mine. Bad times.
If you want to get your dance on, and you are stuck in Burlington, it's not a terrible choice. It's not an awesome one, but you won't overpay for your drinks and the DJ will at least be okay. The other people in club are totally hit or miss. Sometimes it's college d-bag central, sometimes it's not.
Kind of smelly. Decent acoustics. Got in for free, that was a plus.
It's a pretty cool spot, I just got a weird vibe being here.
The stage is small, but big enough for 3-4 people with a drum set, so not so bad.
There are couches which is a plus.
There is food, which I think is cool. I didn't have any but when you're drinking your brains out listening to guy on a banjo, you may want some french fries.
Who knows
Admittedly this place has had its ups and downs, but to judge it A) based solely on its past failings or B) based solely on its flagship s**t-show Fri and Sat dance nights, does it a disservice.
I have started producing standup and improv comedy shows at Metronome - it's a PERFECT room for comedy, and the staff has been nothing short of exceptional in putting on a killer show. It's also a great room to see smaller, more intimate acts.
Metronome is known for their dance club nights, and with that type of programming, it's going to be a loud, overcrowded mess. But check them out sometime for a comedy or acoustic music night. The decor is improved, the staff is friendly, and the management is really trying to shift the early evening programming to a classier vibe.
We went here for 90s night. Â It was fun.....but the dj started to repeat songs or only play a minute before seguing to the next one. Â Annoying. Â There was also some weird confusion about which stamps would allow us onto the dance floor. Â They were kind of jerks about it and wanted us to pay again, but we put up a stink and got through. Â Did a lot of dancing.....that's all that counts!
Review Source:One of my first visits to Vermont, my wonderful girl friend brought me to this club to start off our night. Of course i had no idea what to expect but any time a place calls themselves a "Club" i have some pretty damn high expectations being a nyc boy i know what a club should have. I was little excited i mean i'm obviously with my girl and i hear some pretty good music bumping as i walk up the stairs. Instantly i knew this place was gonna be asi-asi once my gf and I were both charged a cover. Umm hello don't girls normally get into clubs for free on the wknd's esp. the good looking ones like my girl?! wtf!
The club decor was nothing special to me this felt like an over glorified bar the way it was designed. The DJ played a good amount of old school music and some pretty decent jams, he did some top 40 songs which were good. Def some awkward and weird people in the crowd, which made for great people watching, getting a drink wasn't bad i mean the wait was long but not like extremely long which it was normally happens in a club. It was just a different experience overall for me, thank god i was with my gf b/c she made it a good time, otherwise i don't think i'd be jumping for joy if i lived in the area and hitting this place up at all.
This place was as dead as a doorknob (I don't really know what that means, but I'm sticking to it) on Tuesday. I heard the music upstairs was terrible and the DJ refused to play any Top 40 by popular request. Shouldn't he be catering to the crowd especially if they make up the majority and are keeping your business afloat with drink purchases on a weekday night? He must not care because he is getting paid in pizza slices from Junior's down the street. Anyway, came here one other time for 80s night, which was fun for a while until I realized that this place does not have air conditioning and I was actually dancing in a sweat lodge. There were also creepers lurking around, which is the norm for bars and dance floors in downtown Burlington.
Review Source:Enter Metronome and you will leave Vermont. The absolutly worst place in Burlington hands down. Hot headed staff and no air conditioning. Why anyone would go here is beyond me. We stayed for less than 15min before we could tolerate no more. Don't wast your time or money. In a single word...uncivilized.
Review Source:I finally went into this place after going to school in burlington for 4 years and then being away for another 4. My first and only time was for 80's night this past weekend. I always scoffed at the $5 cover charge, but it might actually be worth it. It is absolutely the busiest i have seen a bar in burlington excluding st pattys and new years. The crowd is a lot of fun and everyone is pretty excited to be there. I cant speak to the decor as it is pretty dark, but the place is pretty large and packed. If you are looking for a place to have a semi reasonable drink and can swallow the cover change this is definitely a place you can go to dance.
Review Source:Not a bad place to hang out and hear music every once in awhile.
Avoid it on Fridays & Saturdays at all costs. Their 80's & 90's night DJ is about a hundred years old. He plays the worst 80's & 90's songs imaginable and its always the same set week after week.
DJ Fatty aka Martin. You are old. TIme to retire from the Burlington celebrity scene.
The decor has improved a bit in recent years, but not much. Â
They no longer serve beer on tap, it's bottles only, a real disadvantage for a town with so many great microbrews.
The ladies room often gets over-used to the point that it gets gross.
It's not my favorite venue for live music (Nectar's downstairs is better), but they sometimes get a band worth paying to see, just be sure to bring ear plugs. The mix on live music is often too loud for that space!
I'm not sure if this place has always been owned by Nectar's downstairs but it definitely is now.
Saturday night = retronome, also known as 80s night. Show up at 11pm, get in line, and watch drunk people fall down the stairs. Hey, isn't that your friend?
Sunday night = well, it USED to be Sunday Night Mass aka jungle/techno/dnb/whatever the dj was spinning that night. There used to be a hardcore group that came every week. The place was incredibly dead except for maybe 20 people.
The bar is big with a decent selection of liquor & beer. Nectar's is downstairs if you get the munchies.
