The Clubhouse Dance Studio

The Clubhouse just started having ballroom dancing on Friday nights.
There has been an instructor teaching lessons from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. and dancing starts at 8:30 to 11:00-11:30 p.m.
Come and join.

Back in the day my mom, my brother, and I would make the 2 hour 40 minute drive (each way) from Bakersfield to Placentia to come dance here with the OCWCSDC (Orange County West Coast Swing Dance Club) almost every Sunday night.  And every Monday morning I'd drag myself to Starbucks after getting 3-4 hours of sleep bleary eyed but happy as a clam because I'd danced the night away with some of the best dancers in the world.

I don' t make the drive down as often as I'd like anymore, we all eventually get older and need more sleep, but I still get excited when I hear my Bakersfield buddies planning another road tip to dance in Placentia.  I danced here when Tom & Sossy Hyatt ran it as Top Cats.  I danced here when Shesha Marvin bought it and turned it into Atomic Ballroom Placentia, or as we old timers affectionately referred to it "Platomicats."  And now Jack Smith (Champion dancer and nationally renowned DJ extraordinaire) & his wife  Rachele (another amazing Champion dancer) have bought it and renamed it The Clubhouse Dance Studio and I will continue to make the drive to dance my tootsies off on Sundays whenever I can talk someone into roadtripping with me to share the driving and keep me awake on the long drive over the Grapevine.

On Sunday nights this place belongs to the OCWSDC, but Wednesday nights the Lindy Hop Crowd takes over as they put on the Strutters Ball. Monday nights belong to the Country Crowd and Tom Hyatt teaches Country dancing and runs the College Country Mondays.  Every 3rd Saturday the Country Christian Singles group takes over.  I believe Buddy Schwimmer - the inventor of the dance Nightclub 2 Step and a legend in the world of dance - occasionally teaches dance classes here, too, even though he runs his own studio in the Redlands area.

There is a large dance floor with a wonderful surface suited for spinning and turning and plenty of mirrors behind it so you can check out your style or just see what you're doing right or wrong.  

I highly recommend this club/studio whether you want to take classes to learn a new dance, sharpen your skills, or whether you just want to have a great place to hang out and social dance.  

Bonus: Since they don't serve alcohol, kids and teens can come dance here, too.  I guarantee most of them will dance circles around you!
