My family and I LOVE the Cock and Bull English Pub!
The atmosphere of the pub is small and can get pretty full during peak meal times. However, the wait staff are very accommodating and efficient in ensuring that patrons are seated in a timely manner. Another option that is generally available as an option is to sit at the bar.
The food is generally pretty good - I highly recommend the shrimp bisque and I also recommend the fish and chips. One of the sides, sweet potato fries are also REALLY good. Finally, my favorite must have for food is the belgian pretzels - they are SO GOOD.
In terms of beverages, specifically beer, this place has the best variety of beers on tap in the area in my opinion! The bartenders are awesome and will let you taste beers on tap before deciding on one and most of their options will meet every beer fanatics fancy - if you want hoppy or lighter or what have you.
Overall, I just love this place and enjoy coming here for happy hour (M-F | 4-7 p.m.) or dinner!
Brunch at this place was awful. Â The food was nasty and the service horrid. Â We did have a large group but still bad. Â It took over an hour and a half to get the food out to us. Â Once we got food half of it had to be sent back because it was cold. Â The only they that got this place a two star instead of a one star was the manager. Â We ended up getting all of the food taken off the bill because of every thing. Â I am normally not one to complain about restaurants and staff because i have worked food service before but still. Â The other Cock & Bull in Covington I like but this one I will most likely never go back to.
Review Source:Please refer to Adolfo N. and Cindy G. reviews for the details of the brunch experience. I agree with their comments, very much. To sum up, the food was not great and the service was clearly lacking. But to their credit, the second waitress who appeared out of nowhere clearly tried to clean up the mess and we were compensated our meals which to me seems very fair. I might in the future try to eat here again. However, it would not be for brunch. I would not want to discourage others from coming here because I have faith that dinner and bar food later in the evening accompanied by a beer would clearly produce better results. Brunch, simply is not their strong suit.
Review Source:This review is mostly for their brunch. Â I've been here for a keep the glass night, nothing to extraordinary, order a pint, keep the glass. Â Great. otherwise it's, typical English/Irish fare. Â I was part of this infamous brunch group. Â See the other reviews by Rachel and Cindy to get insights into their experiences. Â I ordered the chicken and pancakes, which sounds cool, but the chicken strips were average, nothing to dip them in, no sauces. Â The pancakes were guinness pancakes, but I must not like Guinness because it just makes them have a weird flavor. Â Yea, we waited over an hour for our food, others came and went. Â The fish and chips next to me smelled amazing, and I've had it at their hyde park location, it is pretty good, but today was not my chance. Â We got out of there first chance we got, so we didn't know about a crying waitress. Â She did say she'd never worked brunch, but how is brunch any different from other meals of the day? Â Still it's a nice bar, with solid bar food, just don't make it a brunch destination.
Review Source:My experience at this location of Cock & Bull English Pub was the worst dining experience I have ever had. I thought that if I waited to write the review, this experience would become less horrific in my mind, but really after sleeping on it, it only made me realize that this was even worse than I initially thought. If you notice I only have one other one star review. My intentions are not to hurt or harm this business but to simply share my experience with you.
I am the Yelp Community Manager if you didn't know already and once a week we get together for the Yelp Breakfast Club as a way to support local businesses, and to also catch up with friends. This week we had originally planned to dine at a nearby restaurant but opted out due to a number of different reasons, and so we ended up here.
I walked in and was actually unsure if they were even open, the restaurant was dark and empty. I thought to myself, Yay for us! We have 11 people so it was a nice spot for our larger group. We sit down and are greeted for drinks. After the initial drink order it took a while to get them, but we were in good spirits since we love catching up. No big deal. We order our food and that is when everything goes downhill.
After a one hour wait, and this is no exaggeration, we finally ask if the food is coming out. She assures us it will not be much longer. Many of us had to start cancelling our plans for the rest of this Sunday afternoon. Three or four of the dishes arrive for our 11 person group. All Eggs Benedict, some Crab Benedict. The food was stone cold. The eggs and sauce curdled and solid as a rock. The crab was not in a cake, but rather a scoop of crab mix. It wasn't even cooked. Three of us said, we cannot eat this. The other one or two say I am so hungry I am just going to eat the muffin and get our check it's not worth it. (All while the other 6/7 of us still haven't been served after another 30 minutes).
We are now sitting here for an hour and a half, and remember there was no one in the restaurant when we arrived and hardly any after. After no food has arrived for the rest of us we tell our waitress we need to leave. She tells us she is sorry but she has "no idea what she is doing, she has never worked brunch before." This made absolutely no sense to us. She then breaks down and tears.
We told her we knew if wasn't her fault it was just time to go. Our entire afternoon was spoiled at this point. We are all in bad moods and starving after two hours. Finally in three minutes food comes blasting out of the kitchen. I don't know if this food was all the sudden microwaved or what but it was the grossest food I have ever eaten. My pancakes were burnt, the eggs Benedict dish looked the exact same as it came out the first time and at this point the manger says the food is all free. A frantic gesture that was gladly appreciated but the damage had already been done. I wouldn't wish this meal on my worst enemies.
When I think about our breakfast club experience here I feel embarrassed and somewhat at fault for picking this place as a last minute substitute. This was the worst experience I have ever had, and just thinking about it makes my stomach churn. Please be warned and don't make the same mistake we did...
As far as the beer selection, and it being a bar, it gets 4 stars.
I've come to this location a few times, namely St. Patty's day, for their 7am club. They give out free tshirts and have keg and eggs in the morning. And its right down the street from my work. They have tons of beers on tap, not really that many irish of the sorts, but whatever, its a good crossover bar.
Recently they've started doing brunch... And... its just not good. A group of 11 of us were pretty much the only ones there when we arrived at noon. (brunch is from 10-2 i guess). A group of 7, a group of 4, a group of 3, and 3 couple all came in and ate and left before we ever got our food. And thats just in the dining room area. I have no idea how many came and went in the bar area. There were 3 waitresses as well. She did great at keeping refills going and making sure coffee was fresh. The mimosa's were decent, since it was definitely not real orange juice. In fact those that ordered the OJ got it with ice in the glass... umm... ew?
I'm not really sure of how new this whole brunch thing is, but they either need to get the kinks worked out, or just scrap it. It's not good. We waited over an hour for food, as i said earlier, at least 23 people were served before us. I've worked in food service for 8 years prior, and even _I_ couldn't figure out what the heck went wrong. 3 or 4 people got their food, and it was barely warm. The cheese had congealed on top and looked like it sat for half an hour, which mind you it had been well over an hour since we ordered. We asked what was going on and the waitress got all flustered and we found out later she was crying in the back after someone came back from the restroom. The manager (i think??) came over, and said she had no idea what was going on, but she'd fix it. She asked if anyone wanted remakes, and we asked how long that would be. 20 minutes... wait what?! no one else is here?!?! And she said the food was being cooked as we speak for the rest of us. What in the world was going on in that kitchen?!
I think this was far beyond a waitress issue. This stemmed farther. Maybe even farther tan the cooks. I really have no clue. Fortunately for us, the only things we had to pay for were the bloody mary's and mimosa's we ordered. But still. It was awful. And even the remakes weren't that good, and the potatoes were still barely warm. The omelette I had was ok. At least warm, even if the cheese was still kind of solid, and not melty, at least it was hot at this point. It didn't fill me up by any means, and my stomach didn't care for it later. But this was just... I can't even describe it, awful doesn't seem to do it justice. Forunately the group had plenty to talk about to keep it from getting even more awkward.
So again, come here later in the day, for beer, not earlier, for food.
This was my first and last visit - it's more of a guys place. Â I had gone with my husband to meet some of his work friends - we ate on the street level inside area & it was VERY noisy - very hard to have a conversation unless you have a loud male voice. Â I got the fish & chips - it was OK. Â Service was average. Â There wasn't anything else on the menu that tempted me. Â The guys seemed to enjoy it when a train went by right outside the window!! Â Scary. Â The place was busy on a Wed. night and parking was hard to find.
Review Source:a solid 4-star pub.
organized a burger/beer night with the guys. Â chose this restaurant solely because it was the best yelp-reviewed pub in the area between where the 4 of us live.
+1 for location. Â historic glendale. Â plenty of parking. Â (tip: park in the free lot across the train tracks.)
+1 for lots of seating. Â full bar and seating area downstairs. Â more seating upstairs, both indoor and outdoor. Â at 7pm on a friday, all indoor seating was taken, including the bar.
+0 for patron demographic. Â i can't say i expected too much differently, but there was a lot of gray hair when we showed up at 7pm.
+1 for great outdoor seating area. Â there were 2 tables open when we arrived. Â open seating. Â two of the 4 walls are solid, and it's covered. Â two open walls gives a nice cross-breeze, without having to stare into the westward setting sun. Â two TVs outside, one of which conveniently showed the reds game tonight.
+1 for friendly, competent, and generally non-annoying service.
+1 for the service being flexible and patient until all 4 of us arrived.
+1 for having lots of beer on top.
+0 for typical pub fare on the menu. Â prices were a bit on the high side, but still palatable.
+1 for fantastic bavarian pretzels (appetizer).
+0 for average beer cheese dip (appetizer).
+1 for good burger. Â i built my own 1/2 lb (bull) burger, with fried egg. Â the egg cost $0.75 extra, but totally made the burger.
+1 for great fries. Â i might go back just for this.
-1 for serving hunt's ketchup, not heinz.
-1 for 5 loud trains this evening ... right next to the building. Â the trains aren't their fault ... but the restaurant location is.
-1 for letting patrons smoke at their table in the outdoor area. Â (i believe this is against the law since it's a covered part of the restaurant.)
+1 for letting us sit for ~3 hours total without getting snarky. Â (don't worry, we had more than water.)
recommended. Â pretty much a safe bet.
Poor service that never asked if we wanted another round or dessert.
Horrible fish advertised as fresh white fish. In reality it is once frozen gray fish that is thin, over cooked and rubbery. Nasty.
I am not sure they 'cook' anything there. It is all frozen or from a can.
McDonald's has better fish... by far.
This review is about the award winning fish and chips. Took my family here for good Friday. All love fish and chips so they were excited, all left greatly disappointed. The fish claims to be deep fried. It looked and tasted baked with a cornmeal coating. Defiantly not deep fried in batter. Many other restaurants in the area MUCH better fish. The Century Inn right down the road is 10 times for fish and chips.
Review Source:While in the 'burbs, there are several locations with 'pub' in the title of the restaurant, but C&B truely feels like a pub. Â They have the perfect location in the historic downtown of Glendale to start, located on a corner next to the train. Â Plenty of actual wood paneling throughout the bar area, great detailing throughout the place, including the embossed ceilings. Â And while feeling like a pub, I'm always comfortable bringing my family to enjoy the food and a view of the trains as they pass along the nearby tracks (my little guy is a huge fan, particularly when we can sit outside on the deck!). Â
The consistently good food choices here include the fish, fish, um... and fish. Â Ok, so there are other good choices, but their fried fish is outstanding, and by far their most popular dish. Â If you are in the mood for good fish and chips (or sandwich on rye with plenty of tasty scratch tarter sauce), then this is a great choice.
Also a draw for you barley & hops fans, the beer selection here is one of the best in the area. Â They have a standard selection that rivals any pub, but also routinely rotate in new selections to reflect seasonal choices. Â With a large selection, I sometimes get concerned regarding quality (i.e. freshness), but I've never had a stale beer, and I've tried... burp... a few. Â Sevrl.. Several. Â Ok two.
Cock & Bull...bites the & is the...
Parking blows, but once I got in the atmosphere was nice and the hostess was friendly. Â I found my party and the waitress came to take our drink and appetizer order. Â Their house wine is "Grapes" and I ordered the riesling, which was ok, but I liked the cabernet sauvignon better. Â As an appetizer, we ordered the beer cheese with fresh torilla chips. Â HAAAAAAAAAA! Â Uh, no beer or real cheese, just a giant can of jalapeno dip from GFS, I'm sure, served with STALE tortilla chips. Â YUCK! Â Shameful. Â
I ordered the crabcakes appetizer as my entree. Â I was pleasantly surprised to see 2 burger sized crabcakes on my plate for $10.99. Â They were meaty with very little filler ingredients. Â It comes with a plum sauce and spicy mustard. Â I'd recommend an extra dose of the plum sauce because it really enhanced the flavor of the crabcake very well. Â
The service was just ok. Â She wasn't engaging and would disappear for long periods of time, which seemed odd since it wasn't packed at 5:00 on a Friday. Â She never brought water or offered it either. Â
There are about a dozen of other restaurants I would prefer to go to with similar or better atmosphere and WAY better food. Â Oh yeah, let's not forget to mention no train horn blowing in my ear either.
PASS.
I was first brought to the Cock & Bull English Pub in Glendale with a friend sometime ago through our search for the best fish sandwich in all of Cincinnati, and we may have just found it. The fish sandwich here, ordered on rye, with about a pound of tartar sauce is probably about the closest one can come to heaven while still being in the northern burbs of Cincinnati. No, I am not overselling it either. It is that good. It is so good in fact, I have never been able to talk myself into ordering anything else except the fish sandwich!
On top of the aforementioned deliciousness, Cock & Bull also serves an excellent selection of beer, both imported and domestics. Plus, each Thursday night Cock & Bull hosts a pint night, where if you pay an extra dollar, you get to keep your pint glass, which in my opinion is pretty dang cool! In addition, Cock & Bull also offers a variety of great drink and food specials, making it a great place to meet with friends for a few drinks, or just grab something delicious to eat!
Not an authentic English Pub, because the fish-n-chips there, don't have panko bread crumbs on their batter, and the "chips" are actually just battered fries...not real "chips" like you'd get in England. Â Other than that...a decent pint is easily gotten...and, they have Dogfish Head 90 Min Imperial IPA ON TAP! Â Yes, one of the hardest beers to get, anywhere, is actually on tap there...oh, the fish and chips is very good, just not "authentic".
Review Source:A friend and I had dinner at the Cock and Bull while I was in town for training. The Cock and Bull is a very friendly and inviting bar in a quaint little town square in Evandale.
We started dinner out with some beer. They have a great selection of beers on tap and bottled. I had a Guinness and a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Both were good.
For food, I had the Londoner, a flank steak sandwich. It is normally served on an english muffin but I chose the pretzel roll. It was a really good sandwich, flavorful and not dry. It came with the pub chips, basically homemade potato chips. They were also very good. My friend had the 3B burger, a burger with bacon, blue cheese, and balsamic vinegar. She said it was a very good as well.
Overall, I liked the Cock and Bull Pub. The service was a little spotty (the server was just very inconsistent in checking on us but friendly and helpful) but the food and atmosphere made up for it.
Husband gives this place four stars. Â I like this spot but, as reviewed by others, it's bar food but good bar food and a good selection of beer.
They have a lot of activities for people during the week and live music, which is always fun. Plenty of seating on the first and second floor. Â I feel as though it's kind of tucked away in its location in Glendale.
I would recommend going here for happy hour or whenever you're in the mood to watch the game or listen to some good, live music.
On the top of the list of good things about Cock & Bull in Glendale is the beer selection. Ever changing and top notch, it is full of brews that are definitely not your dad's beer. Two big stars up!
The Cock & Bull specialty, Fish and Chips, is always awesome. The chips, french fries that is, are so addictive! This menu item is definitely worth a star.
On my last visit i thought I'd try something different. I chose the Rueben. It came with fries, so I knew I'd be okay, but the Reuben itself was really quite tasty. We also ordered chips ala Montgomery Inn as an appetizer. Another fried, tasty hit!
I've only been for lunch and for lunch it's an awesome place to stop. When the weather gets cooler I'd like to try sitting outside upstairs. Nothing beats great outdoor seating. I'll report back on this one.
I am definitely a fan.
Been to this place twice, and both times I was not disappointed. The food is much better than traditional pub food. The restaurant is known for its fish and chips, and I would definitely recommend ordering it. on a nice day, enjoy the covered deck, but be prepared for a noisy train or two as the restaurant is right next to a crossing guard. I would also suggest asking about the specials.
Review Source:I really like the Cock & Bull in Springdale. I think that the inside of this location is super cute. The inside has been done nicely. You get the feeling upon entering the restaurant/bar that you are truly in an English Pub. I love the character found in this place. Not all of the locations have this vibe. If you like Cock and Bull and haven't been to the Springdale location, it is worth the drive. The restaurant has 2stories. The third level is a really nice deck with ceiling fans in case you might need a breeze while eating outside. The other levels are dining room/bar space.
On to the food- The food is good. Do I crave Cock & Bull? Not really. Would I complain if that is where my friends wanted to go for happy hour....not at all. The menu is pretty much bar food. They are know for their fish and chips. When I came here I ordered a chicken teriyaki wrap and fries and it was okay. I loved the fries but I probably would order something else the next time around. The pricing is okay- Maybe a little on the expensive side for pub food- but really not that bad.
The service was pretty good. Our server was patient when I decided that it was actually too hot to eat outside. She laughed when we moved our table settings into the air conditioning space. There was no one there when we were there so if we wanted something we just walked up to the bar and asked for it. I am not sure what the service would have been like if they were actually busy, but for us, I can not complain.
Overall, I would come here again. Maybe order something different, but yes I bet that I will probably be back.
I always have a good time at the Cock & Bull. Â They have good food, fun drink specials (like the nights when you get to take a glass from the beer of the week home with you), and friendly service.
The outside patio is my favorite spot...inside can be a little loud and crazy during happy hour. Â
The appetizers are my favorite things to eat here. Â The trio of dips is delcious, and I love their Banger Dip...delicoius! Â The fish and chips is always a great choice as well.
Always ask your server about the specials. Â They usually have something going on, but it's not always publicized as much as at other pubs. Â
Cock & Bull is a great place to get together with a bunch of friends for drinks and apps, or to go for a nice simple dinner with 1 or 2 other people.
It is a little pricey when it comes to drinks, but you can drink cheaply if you pay attention to the drink menu or ask your server for suggestions.
Cock & Bull never fails to please. This is my first visit to the Glendale one, but I used to frequent the one in Covington.
The fish & chips were as outstanding as always. I ordered The Cock's Cod, and got it with fries and macaroni and cheese. Yeah, I know, not the healthiest way to do it. However, it went great with the Guinness on tap, or if you prefer, a Half 'n half. Personally, I think Cock & Bull is the only place in town that can get a Half 'n half quite right - it's probably just the ambiance. I tried the nachos with chicken for the first time, and they were pretty tasty, but normal restaurant/bar food. Probably should have tried the pretzels.
Cock & Bull has a variety of specials, like 1/2 off some of the appetizers from 3-7, or pint specials on Thursdays. They had live music last night, but we left before they got going.
Only issue we had last night was our waitress was a bit brusque and slow bringing food and drinks, or checks. Our nachos were a long time in coming, and were made wrong the first time and had to be sent back, and our waitress just didn't seem on top of that. No biggie, still gave her a nice tip, but no 5th start this time.
Best Feature: Neat little pub!! Love the atmosphere and food selection!
Worst Feature: It takes me a while to get there :-)
I just recently had the honor of visiting this lovely pub after hearing about it from my boyfriend, a frequent patron. We meandered there for a bite to eat on our lunch break and I am so glad we did!
First off, the fact that they have a little lot to park in is fabulous! I always appreciate the ability to have spots to park rather than street parking, and it's a cute little area!
We headed in and they already let you know about specials up front before you even walk in. Monday is .50 cent wings and there are other specials as well (that's about all I paid attention to, to be honest. WINGS!!)
Ironically, however, I chose to eat a burger instead. Priced around $8-9, they had a great selection of burgers as well as salads, steaks, fish sandwiches, and more. I was really impressed! The prices are decent for the food - good portions and totally scrumptious!
Unfortunately due to the whole had-to-drive-back-to-work thing, I couldn't sample any of their alcoholic drink selections, but the list alone was impressive! I look forward to stopping back in and trying it out. They certainly have a ton to choose from!
The service was excellent - a very friendly hostess sat us and we were served by the kindest of waitresses! My burger, a medium well customized burger (I chose blue cheese, jalapenos, mushrooms, and chili for toppings) was mouthwateringly delicious! Cooked PERFECTLY and I love the side options! It came with a pickle and choice of friends or chips. I chose chips, and not only were they light and crispy, but the seasoning salt was great!!
The interior is incredibly charming - exactly what I'd picture an English pub to be! Dark wood, intimate atmosphere, nice televisions available to watch news or sports (or whatever), and the icing on the cake was the occasional train that would run right by the restaurant. I love trains, and I really felt that despite the midday hour, I was transported to another time and place. A very nice respite from the mundane workday.
I will definitely be here again!! And if you're in the area, DEFINITELY stop in for food and/or drink! :-)
If you want a great draught selection in cincinnati then go here (24 taps). My wife and I had the fish and chips and a burger and they were great especially considering you are eating at a Pub. The service was fast and people are friendly. There are also sufficient TVs to catch a game but not overwhelming. It also isn't too loud inside so you can still have a conversation. Essentially it is a great place to get a few tasty pints with a friend and actually be able to chat and if you have a bite to eat all the better.
Review Source:Stopped by for a Christmas Eve repast. Â Not crowded (which made it nice). Â We had the fish and chips, the pork chop, sweet potato chips and a buffalo burger (good). Â the fish and chips were very good. Â The pork chop excellent. Â The pork chop arrived with an interesting dipping sauce that was a nice addition for a chilly night. Â Disappointed not to find a shepherds pie on the menu (a curry pie would really have really gotten my attention). Â No bangers and mash on the menu either. Â Beer selection was plentiful. Â Service was good and friendly. Â Ambiance is what one should expect for an English Pub. Â While the food was very good, I thought it could use more variety skewed to the British side for selection (a reason I didn't give it a higher rating). Â There were plenty of burger choices, and some wraps. Â Best for grabbing a few beers with friends and the rating would go higher.
Review Source:Hubby was happy to find Stella on tap. I liked sitting by the big window just a few feet from where the trains roar past. The major negatives were the icy cold air blowing from the floor registers and volume turned up too loud on the huge screen TV in the dining room. Yeah, I know it's a bar, but with the extensive menu, some of us are there for the food. Especially early on a quiet Sunday evening.
I couldn't figure out anything actually British about the Cock and Bull except the name. They have good fried fish (cod, I think) but it's in a panko type crust. They have good freshly made potato chips. The spinach and artichoke dip was outstanding, although skimpy. But the server quickly brought another serving when she noticed the hubby had hoovered it all up.
He was super happy with his 1/2 pound burger, which miracle of miracles came out medium rare like he ordered it. THAT NEVER HAPPENS.
In search of a good, if not great, watering-hole near my suburban domicile in Forest Park, I was really, really happy to find Cock & Bull. After returning many times, it's become not necessarily one of my favorites, but one of my standbys.
First: north of the Comet, they may have the best beer selection in town. They have several taps that they rotate regularly between microbrews and your bud lights and millers, generally preferring the harder-to-find and the rarely on draft (you'll almost always find a Dogfish and a Goose Head on tap). Also, they carry a good deal of bottles, with a nice full-page list to choose from. This is the first place I tried Leffe Blonde and Stone Ruination. And it's a good idea to note they have some top shelf selections such as Jonnie Walker Blue and Balvanie Doublewood, and several very good vodkas, not just the commercial liquors you see all the time.
As for the food... it's a glorified bar, man. They DO have pretty good fish and chips, and YES their chips are the crispy potato chips and montgomery inn kind, not the fries kind. They DO have a decent burger. Other than that... it's kind of silly to complain about the 20 bucks you spent on a piece of chicken at a bar that isn't cooked like at J. Alexander's. Granted in their defense, I haven't ordered anything that I've not enjoyed very much. I'm just saying, I come for the bar.
Beer: it doesn't get any better than the beer selection at the Cock and Bull. Â They have a couple dozen taps of terrfic imported and American Microbrews. Â There is also a happy hour special on beer and appetizers.
Food: The Fish and Chips as well as the Nachos were very good. Â Steer clear of the Queso Dip.
Ambience: Â The clientele is very friendly and gives this pub a lot of personality. Â The bartenders and servers are excellent.
Overall: Â I will be back many times.
Cock & Bull?!? Â If you are American, you are giggling; if you are English, you are intrigued. Â I was brought here by a Scotsman. Â We thought it was adequate. Â Now I am back in Cinci and I have decided to give it a second opinion. Â Again I am feeling that the food was nothing to write home about. Â The steak was a bit dry, but the mac & cheese (is that English?) was pretty good. Â If I could give a good review based on side dishes, then the C&B would be fantabulous!
What was good: Â The service. Â Samantha (my server) was attentive (to all the tables), she had good suggestions and she brought napkins without being asked. Â I am not sure if she was taking care of all the tables but I hardly saw another server. Â Someone give this woman a raise!
The beers were also good. Â They have a decent selection of imports on draught. Â We had plenty to choose from as we chatted about world politics and soccer (ahem football). Â Finally, maybe it was the beer or maybe it was Samantha, but the atmosphere is really great here as well. Â Everyone is very friendly and jokey. Â You can relax at the Cock & Bull and maybe that's the most important thing when you are trying to enjoy your meal.
Their site claims award-winning fish & chips - well, we had to try, seeing my husband is British & I lived over there for awhile.
The fish was good but had some weird batter, not beer battered, but more like panko. The 'chips' were skinny seasoned fries, which ruined it. Not chips at all. No peas either, nor were there any other British dishes on the menu. This doesn't make sense - esp. for a self-proclaimed pub. We wouldn't return. Oh how I miss the Kings Head in Santa Monica....
The search continues...
I liked this place when it was the Glendale Pub, and I like it even more now, because they have better beer, better wine, better food, and better entertainment. Â This is seriously THE ONLY decent place to have a drink in the Glendale/Wyoming/Tri-County area, so PLEASE GO THERE so they don't go out of business.
Review Source:I had the opportunity to meet a group of people here last night. It was a great time. The atmosphere is inviting and the staff is friendly. It's conveniently located next to a railroad track which provided some entertainment as the train went by.
On Mondays they have live acoustic with Aaron Hedrick. He had a great sound, played some classic songs and is a real character to boot. If he takes a break from the RedBulls, he'll tell you all about his life.
On Tuesdays they have trivia and on Wednesdays they have acoustic with Donnie Bray & Jeff Tolle of the Swimsuit Models.
There is an upstairs bar for the music. It is cozy without being small. Early in the week it is rather quiet up there, which can be great if you are looking for that. In the warmer months there is a patio upstairs as well. You can book this upstairs bar for a private event and feel like you have the whole bar to yourself.
They have a great selection of beer on tap (26?) including Bell's, DogFish Head, Rogue, Stella, Great Lakes. They have some good drink specials including a pint night. They have about 10 small batch select bourbons to choose from and other quality liquors as well. They have wine as well, and the selection is something that most people will easily recognize. They have a huge selection of bottled beer (up to 12% abv) and even carry Schlitz.
As far as the food goes, I only got a chance to try the jalapeno cheese sticks. Yum! Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food as well. It seemed to come out quickly and arrive hot which is always a good sign.
