I had a great time hanging out with my fellow Yelp Elite Joel Mc Steve I and Heather D! Now you know we had to check this place out once Steve I said Joel M would like this place. After being there I can see why! It's a friendly Metry bar in a strip mall with a bunch of other bars a stones throw away. Â I think a Metry bar crawl UYE may be in order and I'm not even much of a drinker (since I'm such a lightweight!).
The bartenders are friendly, the patrons look like regulars, I could barely smell the smoke, and there is a pool table and even a dart league! Â In fact, there is a wall displaying the dart feathers you can purchase. Â Yup, they mean serious business with their darts! The bar doesn't offer food but they are super nice about you bringing outside food and eating it there. In fact, like Joel M said, they have menus behind the bar so you can order. My friends and I ended up picking up food from Taqueria Sanchez and it was amazing! Now I'm excited about trying the other Taquria Sanchez on the Westbank.
It's a great neighborhood bar but can be challenging finding it since my mapquest directions put me at Kool Smiles Dental when it's actually across the street behind the Super 8. Once you see Taqueria Sanchez hang right and you're there! Plus parking can be tough because there are so many bars nearby.
Happy Bar Hopping!
If you've lived in Metry for some time you've probably been to The Max. The Max has been there forever and is a local's bar. Colby's is in the next parking lot over from The Max. I prefer Colby's over the other half dozen bars at this intersection because 1) Most of the beers are under $4 Â 2) The bartenders here have more personality than at their neighboring bars. Plus this bar doesn't look like a shit hole. The bar is neat and appealing to the eye.
There is one pool table and dart boards for some not-so-friendly competition. They have a DJ every Fri and Sat night and even bring in a band once in awhile. There is no food served at Colby's but they are so hospitable that they will let you buy outside food and eat it there. I have even brought Popeye's there one time and no one raised an eyebrow.
I'm glad some awesome Yelpers joined me there the other night. They finally got a taste of a good ole Metry bar!
P.S. There are MANY cool Metairie bars within 2 miles of Colby's!
