There are a lot of folks in the New Orleans area looking for a nice trendy club and this is one of them. Â There are flat screen TV's and nice furniture around the place with cool lighting and a great stage for feature acts such as DJ's, comedy acts, bands, etc.
I actually performed stand-up there and didn't realize I was performing in half of the place until they opened the divider at the end of the show. Â The comedy club set-up was really awesome. Â The stage is extremely well lit, there's a green room for performers complete with a monitor to see the stage, and the bar is not so close to the stage that you hear the server taking orders (very distracting to comedians).
I'm not sure how often they do their drink specials but there were $1 and $3 deals. Â I like it.
Like Gant, I love the comedy show there on Saturdays, too. :-)
Last night was my first time at City Bar. The girls and I wanted to stay away from the Bayou Classic madness downtown, and try something new. I love that it was so easy to find parking. Unlike downtown. I had a blast at this club! Cover was only $5 which is not bad at all. I like the way they designed the club. Very retro/warehouse-like. I do have to say that I wish they would add another bar. The area by the bar is so small and it's so hard to get drinks. Also, I felt like the club had no kind of ventilation. The air was full of cigarette smoke. The girls and I literally could barely breathe. I was scared to die of second hand smoke in this place! I had to step out a few times just to get some fresh air. Music wise, the dj played very good music. Everyone was dancing. Choice of songs was great.. only thing is he SUCKS at mixing the music together from one song to the next. Instead of it smoothly transitioning, it would stop for a millisecond and go on to the next song. and he only played like 45 seconds of each song before switching to the next. great music, shitty dj. All in all, I had a blast, and would definitely come back.
