Great local spot.   Best craft beer selection in town and the best damn burgers in Charleston.   Gourmet burgers and the truffle and Parmesan fries are outstanding!   The Mac and cheese app is insanely good also.   Service is always excellent.   It's one of our favorite places.  Weinstephen Hefe on draft is the best beer ever.

Ben the bartender is awesome. He is well informed on the beers on tap. There is a chalkboard with a list.

The food, or at least the burger that I had was amazing! Also, the popcorn is really tasty. I'm a huge fan of this place. There weren't a lot of people there, but the ones I've seen are one's who enjoy the place and are regulars.

This place was amazing. The macaroni and cheese was easily the most incredible Mac and cheese we've ever had. Can't wait to come back next time we're in town!

Awesome beer selection, and friendly service. But good luck finding parking.

    LOVE THE MAC AND CHEESE.
Also, mini lamb burger sliders-- yummmmy
Duck Confit Taquitos... I mean REALLY?! These are so good.

Ok, so I'm going to be "that guy" and say that the burgers are not my favorite. Maybe I just  got the wrong one (black and bleu). There's just so much bread and it overpowers the actual flavor of the burger.

We really enjoy craft beer so this was a great find and the food was excellent. We loved the mussels...best we had on our trip.  The Caesar salad, fried green tomatoes and seafood pasta.

Ok. Now I know why people always rave about Charleston food....

Possibly the most delicious burger known to mandkind can be found at CPH - the California Burger.  The beef is quality, grilled to perfection (mine was a true medium-rare).  But what makes it is the bacon - Oh the Bacon!!! I'm not even a huge fan of bacon on my burgs but wow, these peppercorn strips will make your burger more flavorful than a prime aged ribeye. But oh there's more.  Monterrey jack melted on the meat, a hefty portion of sliced avocado layered on top with a stack of alfalfa sprouts, finished with a creamy dijon sauce.  Ok I'll calm down now, but believe me, you'll understand my rant perfectly after one bite of burger heaven.

    The service was great.

We had brunch here and it was not good. My friend and I ordered fried green tomatoes benedict and it was horrible. There was no flavor at all. I thought that you couldn't go wrong with ordering fried green tomatoes in the south and wow was I wrong!

Oh we ordered garlic fries here and we both had horrible stomach aches after because they were so greasy.

This place has an interesting menu and a decent beer selection, but they advertise themselves as a "tap room". I say nay. This mostly stems from the inescapable fact that our server knew nothing about beer. Hell, she didn't even know what they had or didn't. The beer lists on the table were worthless because every one had different items crossed out and added in. I asked about the IBU's of a particular IPA they had and got in return, "What's that?"
I asked her to ask the bartender... there isn't one. So with the limited info I make my selection. 30 seconds later, here comes princess. We're out of that one. Serenity NOW! I ordered something else, begrudgingly mind you, and we ordered food. It took forever. We were one one of two couples in the place. Shame.

II wouldn't go back unless someone else was paying.

ETA: I used my phone to figure out the IBU's of every IPA on the menu, penned them in, and left it where she could see it :)

Great burgers and flatbreads!!  We mentioned at ordering that we were gonna split the burger and flatbread and the kitchen did it for us!!!  Great service!!

Coleman Public House is a really great spot for anything and everything. They have an incredible rotating beer selection. All of their food is consistent and really good. The lamb sliders and mussels with fries are staples! The best part is that they have something for everyone. There is a great bar, a patio, and enough space for semi-private partys. It's the best place to take picky eaters. There is something for everyone.
Staff is very friendly and know their stuff.

CPH is my favorite place in Mount Pleasant by far. I've never had a bad meal there and the service is always fantastic.

For food, the burgers are probably at the top of my list. Make sure to get the truffle fries. Their rotating specials are also quite good. I've had the flatbrad, mac & cheese, and encrusted tuna just to name a few and they've all been excellent.

For drinks, I can't say enough about the beer selection here. I visit at least once a month and the chalkboard always has new and interesting things on it. The bartenders are very helpful and will give you a sample or some guidance if you want it. Usually they have a wide variety of beers, everything from blondes to porters. Usually there's a nice mix of local beers and excellent beer from around the world.

I also can't say enough about the service here. The two regular bartenders are very friendly and really treat you as if you're their only customer. The wait staff is also excellent and attentive.

The atmosphere is relaxed, casual and moderately noisy, although on week nights it can be a good place to sit down and talk with a friend.

I knew I shouldn't have written this review. I've already been there four times this month and now I want to go again tonight :(.

3.5 stars.  It's a solid place.  We stopped in really to eat; not to drink.  I think it's probably a great place to enjoy many of their outstanding beers on tap.  No complaints, it a good place.  The decor (outside of the bar area) is fairly simple and plain.  We sat in a booth and the service was good.  The menu has a fair amount of options on it and pricing was decent.   My wife had a burger and I had a flatbread - both good.
I think the beer options and the bar area are the main reason to come back in.  I wouldn't seek it out, but would consider stopping in again.

If you're looking for some solid food, and a beer selection that's 100% different from your average bar, then you have found your spot for dinner tonight.

The Belgian beers are the main draw here. They have a great selection of really interesting stuff that rotates frequently. There's nearly always a blonde, a bruin, and something sour on the beer menu. Well-made Pilsner and Kölsch are also staples. They always have a few local beers and a few from the larger American craft breweries as well--always with a solid IPA in the mix. You can find a somewhat up-to-date tap list on their Facebook page. Occasionally, they go heavy on one style, and you may find yourself stranded with a list of all porters and stouts, but usually there's something for everyone.

Burgers are the staple on the menu; and they have a good selection to choose from. BBQ sauce and caramelized onions are a good choice, with the Barnyard Burger coming in as a close second (goat cheese and oven roasted tomato). I've gotten the flatbreads once or twice--they're passable, but I've never really been happy with them. They have entrees too, where they try to go for more of a fine dining approach than you might expect given the decor. In general, the entrees are good; the short ribs and fish & chips are my top choices. I wouldn't recommend CPH as a place to try your first shrimp and grits, but it is a big hearty interpretation of the dish; I'm sure it has its fans.

Don't overlook the appetizers! I have ordered two appetizers as my meal on more than one occasion. The highlights are the Mac 'n' Cheese (for me, it even beats Cru Cafe), the Asian glazed ribs (lots of sugar in the glaze but that hits the spot if you're already a few beers in), and the spinach and crab dip (seems cliche, but it's tasty and a very large portion). When you order the crab dip, ask for extra pitas, the normal order never has enough.

Oh, and service. CPH has an awesome core of waitresses. They've had the same team for years and they're really excellent. The know the beer list (and when they're unsure they'll offer to bring you a sample), and they're generally quick and there when you need them. Though on one occasion I did get a new waitress, and in that once instance, the service was abysmal. It seems like they know what they're doing though, so I'm sure they'll work that out.

They're good for groups too. We've shown up with 8 unannounced before without any trouble. There are three or four big tables in the back, so they can usually fit anyone in without a problem.

Solid food, superb beer, great service. CPH, for me, is one of those places that I'm always happy to go to whenever anyone suggests it.

I haven't eaten here but I make it a point to stop in for Happy Hour from time to time to check out the beer list (FYI - they don't actually have happy hour prices if I recall... Bummer).  Anyway, they always have a great craft beer list and one of the most rare beer selections in Mount Pleasant.

I see that some have mentioned the knowledge of the staff on the brews, but when I went they were right on point.  The bartender offered samples of anything before I decided to commit which is nice to avoid getting stuck with a beer you aren't happy with.

Not your typical experience, but I also went to the Westbrook Brewing 2nd anniversary party here.  The tapped special kegs from Westbrook like the coveted Mexican Cake (RIP Mexican Cake... you will be missed)  I heard that was one of the last barrels of the tasty treat so I felt honored to get a pint.  Speaks to their cool beer factor when they are rockin limited release brews on the regular. I'm a big fan!

    I like it.
We had the Godfather flatboard and good LORD that was probably the best flatbread I have ever had.  JR C. had the cobb salad and it look's solid and I had the lamb shank....if you complain about lamb shanks, we can't be friends.  This was awesome.

    Ummmmmm.

Service was great!  Everyone warned me that as a northerner moving down here, I'd grow very impatient with how slowwwww everything was down here but that's nonsense.  My wine glass was never empty for over five seconds, great beer selection.  Can easily get to be an expensive event, but definitely a solid place!

Really enjoyed the food, but I'm not a beer drinker and they didn't have any hard cider or something like that to drink.  Good food, and good service though.  I recommend it for a nice casual night out.

This is a good place for beers and not so much for the ambiance. The food is relatively simple but tasty with a limited menu.

Love this place! Great menu with lots of options - local (low country) fare plus plenty of creative contemporary options. Great burger combinations and appetizers. The corn and crab fritters were to die for!! Also, great beer selection and very attentive staff. The interior is a little dark, but that makes for a casual and relaxed atmosphere.

California burger is one of the better burgers I have ever had. Beer was expensive, service was nonexistent. If I could, I would do 3.5 stars due to price and service.

Coleman Public House derives its name from the British term for a type of drinking establishment that now ofttimes is referred to as a pub. However this place is not your typical pub. Whilst some townsfolk do gather here to have discussions with other denizens, the vibe is more modern than what one would expect from a pub. Please note, that I am not saying that this is a flaw, but don't come here expecting it to be your typical pub. In pubs of yore, citizens would gather to discuss the news of the day and these conversations would be helped by the bar keeps. That being said, the bar keeps here are extremely pleasant and are more than ready to have a chat with you- something that I find missing at many drinking establishments.
The beer selection here is an interesting one. It is not the largest selection that I have seen down here, nor is it the smallest. However the choices are very unique and have some draughts that you probably would not find at many other places.
Food here is so-so. The steak didn't really have much flavor- I have had chain-restaurant steaks that are better. However it is okay. It was a little pricey for the fact that it was't the quality that I was expecting or hoping for. The fries were decent. They had a nice coating of rough sea salt on them and some spices. The spices did not really add much flavor to the fries though.
Overall it was an okay place. Disappointed by the food, but the interesting beer selection and friendly staff were pluses.

Nice space - friendly bar and good tables. I was in town overnight and stopped in for a burger and fries, based on Yelp reviews.

Chile burger was good, although the bread was maybe a bit pedestrian. Garlic fries are very tasty but I'd like to see fewer small pieces. I prefer eating fries with my fingers and many of my order were less than an inch.

Decent draft beer list. They had Saison DuPont, which I find hard to resist in tap.

Based on what I've read, Charleston and Mt Pleasant have a lot of options for pubs with good food and beer. Coleman should be considered in that mix, for sure.

After reading in the city paper how good the burgers were, I decided to go for a try. I had the one with pimento cheese. It was good, but not the best burger I've had. The service was great.  Variety of beers. They gave me a couple of samples because I hadn't heard of any of them.

Decent beer selection but seems to be heavy on the Belgians at times - and will often be over loaded with high alcohol options - meaning 10% and above. A few is great, but often the entire list will be weighted heavily. Need more variety among styles - one IPA and five Heffe's is not well a balanced list. Could likely use a beer consultant to help them figure it out better. Bar staff really does not know much about the beers - they try, but when the customers have more beer knowledge, it means you aren't educating your staff properly about your product. That said - food is very good, like the flat breads and really like the Cobb salad. But they need to have some rotating specials. Find myself struggling to find something to eat at times because I'm bored with the menu. They need to change it up and add more variety.

Good beer selection. The food was ok. Nothing great. I had the shrimp and grits.  The main negative is the price. We spent $50 on 2 entrées and 2 beers. Probably a good place to grab a beer but not great for a dinner date.

I was in town to run over the bridge and stopped in for dinner here.  When I arrived, the restaurant was fairly quiet.  I was greeted by the hostess and I was offered my choice of tables.

I was presented with a menu and while I considered going with a variety of appetizer plates, I decided on the green chile burger.  My server asked me if I wanted to upgrade to garlic or truffle fries over the standard fries, and upon her endorsement, I chose the garlic fries.

It took 15-20 minutes or so for my food to arrive.  I had requested the burger be cooked to medium and it was a little more towards medium well.  I had trouble discerning whether or not the burger was a frozen patty, because while the outside edges seemed perfectly even, the thickness of the burger varied.  It didn't have the loose texture of a hand-formed patty, but the burger tasted okay.  The chiles gave it a nice spice, but it was nothing special.

The fries on the other hand, were outta sight!  The fries were crispy and covered in minced garlic and what I can only guess was garlic oil.  They were super-tasty and worth going back just for the fries.  And I may try one of their flatbreads as well.

Service was good.  Nothing overly impressive, but everyone was friendly and the interior was modern.

Very good burger and great selection of draft beers. Service was mediocre. Would be good with a group of friends, not a quiet place. Just don't expect to be finished quickly. Take the time to savor the good food.

The Coleman Public House was a visit that I was really looking forward to, and was very disappointed. We arrived for lunch a few minutes before noon.  The restaurant is rather small, but warm and inviting.

A friend had recommended the restaurant saying they serve "high end" pub food and many high quality craft and import beers. Had she not had said that we would never have known this, as this was not our experience.

We were seated in a dining area that abutted a small room that was hosting a networking group.  There was one other table in the dining room and a couple at the bar.

Our server quickly greeted us and explained the day's special. We read through the menu as we listened to the din of the networking group.  We quickly placed our order.

We then waited, and waited, and waited for lunch. I understand that a small business would like to cater to a networking group, but on the days that it hosts it, the regular patrons should also be considered.
We waited 35 minutes for lunch.  Bear in mind that other than the networking group of about 15, there were six customers in the
    restaurant.

I'm OK waiting for lunch, but when it arrives after all that time, it should be great.  The California burger (Monterey Jack cheese, apple wood smoked bacon, avocado, sprouts, tomato and creamy Dijon had great potential but it was served well done versus the medium temp that was requested.  My Southwestern salad (Field greens, chicken apple wood smoked bacon, blue cheese crumbles, egg, tomato, avocado and Dijon vinaigrette), was beyond bland. I asked for more dressing hoping it would help, but it didn't.  Although the greens were fresh and crisp the salad had ZERO flavor.  I know that it may seem hard to believe, given the list of ingredients, but it's true.

We tried to visit the Public House on a Friday evening and it was packed, so obviously it has a following - just not these two followers.

On a cold day in Charleston, this place hit the spot. Nice warm feeling inside and a great selection of beers that make you feel cozy inside. They're a tad heavy in the hoppy monsters, so if you're looking for lots of wheat beers/light beers look somewhere else.

The food here is way beyond most beer bars. They're known for their burgers and the one I had was excellent. Juicy and covered in delicious mushrooms (I had the fungi burger). You must get the truffle fries. They're truly awesome (though don't expect shaved truffles on them for the 95 cent upcharge ).

The price of everything was exactly what I expected when I walked in. $10 burgers and $5-$6 beers. Definitely recommended.

Love the neighborhood feel, you can sit outside, in the bar area or a more formal dining area. The draft selection is awesome and you can get a a tasting of any 4.  They also serve a great Pimms Cup so that rates high with me.

Menu items, their soups are always good, and the curry shrimp skewer with toasted rice cake is awesome! Flatbreads are nice to share and then split one of their salads or apps
Very nice staff, attentive and accommodating.  oh, and the burgers look divine! I also heard people commenting on the lamb sliders, they were coming back for a second time for them.

Just went back on Friday night and their beer menu was much improved - much wider selection of drafts, not as IPA heavy as before.

As always, the food was delicious.

Been here twice now and will make another trip.  Went for a burger the first time!  Great burgers...some of the best in the Charleston area.  Spend the extra $0.95 and get the garlic fries....totally worth it!

2nd visit was for brunch.  Having lived in Texas for 12 years had to try the Huevos Rancheros---not a bad dish (eggs were overcooked), but not even close to real HR!  So if want something liteish, check it out...if you want Huevos Rancheros try the pancakes instead (which is what I should have had).

They  have lots of funky beers available, but so far have only been for the eats.

I've been to the Public House twice now, once on a casual Sunday with a buddy and once with my girlfriend. I was excited to go because I heard they had a good beer selection. They do, lots of rotating taps and changing bottle selection. I also heard about their burgers and flatbreads. The menu isn't huge, but its well done with several really delicious sounding flatbread and burger options. The first time I went I got the farmhouse burger (goat cheese, roasted peppers, sauteed onions, and  spinach ) which was amazing. The fries were very good too, but burger was enough for me. On my second visit I got the Godfather Flatbread (sopressata, arugula, and olive oil) which was also very good. Both times the people I went with got burgers and were very happy with them. All the burgers and flatbreads are $9.

Two nights after spying this place from Finz, I was sitting down for a Gaffel Kolsch (first time, kinda weak).  A nice selection of beers were available -- not vast, but varied and unique.

This place bills itself as upscale casual.  It also claims to be a pub.  I'll buy the first, and give them credit for trying on the second count.  The pub feel just isn't there.  The upscale feel is there, but casual is very acceptable.  The crowd at the (smallish) bar was younger, with emphasis on the "er".  The restaurant patrons were older, same emphasis.  At my age, I was comfortable.  The setting would allow for people to get their own vibe going at a table or at the bar.

As for the food, I had the Sante Fe Flatbread.  It had great potential, plenty of taste, but it needed to be a little more moist.  A pesto maybe, drizzle it with some olive oil, something like that.  But the quantity and freshness of the toppings carried it.  The wife had the Barnyard Burger.  I'd say it was the best burger she's had in the area.  This based on the single bite I was able to wrestle away.  It was juicy, done medium, and it tasted like very high quality meat.  I'm thinking about returning just to get one for me.

Although unique, I'd recommend against the rosemary popcorn.  It was a small portion of popcorn for $3.

Finally, my dessert, the Ommegang Belgian Ale was Omme-God.  Real good.  All of this came in at less than $50.  Not a bad deal, and better than the experience I'd just had at Finz.  Go for the burger, stay for the beers.  This place is a winner.
