Went here around 4 in the afternoon while waiting for a movie at the nearby theater. Â Location is in the West End area near lots of shops and walking distance to other places. Â The parking situation can be a little bit of a headache in the parking ramps. Â
I had the walleye sandwich and it was a pretty big sandwich. Â Food tasted good and was quick to the table. Â The ambiance inside seemed a little off for a Irish pub but either way the food was good and the prices were alright. Â
Cannot say that I was amazed by this place but I wouldn't avoid it either.
My wife and my one-year old daughter and I got into town after a 6 hour drive, had checked into the Doubletree and we were hungry. We try to avoid the chain restaurants when we're on vacation as they're just not that much fun. In doing a Yelp search for local restaurants, we found that most of the non-chain restaurants had "Good for kids" listed as NO, including Cooper's. We gave it a shot anyway since it was across the street. It was a Thursday night around 6pm and we were able to get seated as soon as we walked in. I asked for a high-chair and they brought one right out along with crayons and a kids' menu. So much for being kid unfriendly.
The restaurant is gorgeous and we were seated at a booth amongst the normals rather than relegated to a "kids' korner". The place was pretty noisy from patron chatter - my wife and I had to speak a little louder than normal to hear each other, but on the bright side this meant that people nearby couldn't hear my daughter's babbling. She started to fuss towards the end of the meal and no one seemed to take notice. We came back the next day for lunch and there were 5 other families with kids eating. Maybe I misinterpreted "good for kids" on Yelp. It's certainly not a McDonalds or Applebees with kids running and screaming everywhere, but it's not bad for kids. We came back the next day and had a similarly pleasant experience. There were four or five other families with kids.
As for adults, the food was excellent. I had the sausage and mash at night and the Two Gingers chicken sandwich for lunch - both were superb. The beer menu was great too, with I believe a dozen craft beers on tap. Brooklyn Brown, Tallgrass 8-Bit, and of course, Summit EPA stuck out for me. I would have certainly enjoyed a Two Gingers whisky as well, but it wasn't that kind of day.
In summary, not kid-hostile with great food, great drinks, and a great atmosphere. 5 well-earned stars!
Every time I come to this place I'm disappointed just a little more.
Bar... I usually don't like commenting on service in my Yelp reviews (I hate when others do it and they've only been to a place once), but I feel like I've been here enough times, and have gotten the same level of service each time to form an opinion on it. Â The bar area service is terrible. The actual bar itself is incredibly long, which is cool. But they always seem to be understaffed, so it takes forever to order a drink. Also, because of the layout, it can get really congested in that area which makes ordering a drink that much more difficult. Â
Food... I've had a few different dishes here. They were so unmemorable I can't recall what they were. I just remember one thing... It was all incredibly bland.
Noise Level... In the main area, this place is always incredibly loud (definitely more so than other similar places). Â I really have no idea why. Â If you're looking for some peace and quiet they have separate rooms off the bar area. Â Go to that place.
Walked over to Cooper's based on a reco from the local hotel I was staying at. Â
I saw the white tablecloths through the window as I was walking up and I was dressed in jeans and a fleece, but I had nothing to be worried about. Â Everyone was pretty casual if they didn't come from work. Â I sat at the bar and there were some other single diners sitting there. Â Many of the tables were still packed at 8:00pm on a Wednesday night. Â Supposedly music was coming in later in the evening.
I started with a local IPA. Â The bartender was super friendly as he described some of the local beers. Â I then ordered a bowl of the tomato soup (this was the reco!!) and some sliders ("Wee Burgers").
The tomato soup was out of this world. Â It was more like a bisque than a super creamy soup. Â Then they melted cheese over the top like onion soup, and had garlic bread pieces floating in it like croutons. Â I talked about this soup for days. Â
The Wee Burgers were just OK and nothing to write home about. Â I was super full after both the soup bowl and sliders and wished I had got a salad or something lighter than burgers instead.
Next time I go there I think it will try the pretzel and mustard. Â Lots of sandwiches and 'dinners' on the menu too. Â The tables were groups leaving from Happy Hour, some couples. Â Games were on all of the TVs. Â I can see this place getting really crowded if it was a weekend, holiday, or event.
I like this place. When I'm in the Northwest metro, I like to head over into Coopers. Typically, I go here in the summer and sit outside with a glass of white wine or hard apple cider and people watch. It's by a shopping center and a movie theatre.  Oh, there's a nice underground parking garage. However, I've eaten inside and the décor is fancy and nice. Reminds me of an upscale pub in Dublin's City Center. It's pretty, clean, and makes me feel swanky for some reason. When I leave here, I generally feel, meh, back in St. Paul?
So, the wait staff is pretty friendly. I've never had to wait for a table even when it was a Saturday night so props to the manager for making sure the seating is adequate. The menu is gluten and vegetarian friendly also. I typically order the rice burger (without the bun) and the mashed potatoes. They have Crispin hard apple cider. Oh, and they have quinoa salad! Yes, quinoa salad! What's a Latina to do? Mashed potatoes plus quinoa salad? I'm your fan, Coopers.
Best happy hour spot in the West End. Unlike the other bars, there aren't designated happy hour sections of the restaurant, it's also a lot harder finding a place to sit with a large group at the other bars nearby like Rojo or Figlio. Cooper has a good selection of drafts and food specials paired with a spacious interior. When the weather improves, they add a nice outdoor seating area.
Tasty sizable portions of food, friendly staff and conveniently located if you want to stop in after work or have dinner before a movie at the Icon movie theater.
Wednesday night is trivia night!
Hubby and I went here for a nightcap. I had 2 Gingers and diet gingerale with lemon and lime. It is mt new fav drink. I bought some 2 gingers to take home, it was so good! Bar tenders were friendly and attentive. Hubs had a half and half. They made a good one. We also ordered a dessert... 2 Gingers bread pudding (do you sense a theme?) It was $2.99 and was ample size.
We have had dinner here before with a big group. Service was a bit spotty, but the food was good. I remember I had a salmon dish with lentils. The salmon was cooked the way I like it; just a bit underdone so it's tender and juicy.
The place is lively, but you can carry on a conversation. They have a nice big bar. So if it's just two of you, I would suggest getting dinner at the bar.
Love the open airy bright atmosphere at Cooper's Pub, just walking into this restaurant is awe-inspiring! One cant help but be starry-eyed..which I always am. I love the bright, airy, open space, and although always busy and packed it's comfortable and fun! The service is always extraordinary and the food superb. It's located in the St. Louis Park Shops at West End, and it stands out from all the other surrounding restaurants visually, too (without being gaudy) so you can't miss it. The food also stands out ...don't know how authentic Irish the food is, but it's really delicious and I've never been disappointed the multiple times I have been here ...on a team outing from work, or an event with tons of people (over 50 + which I organized, and Cooper's had helped me accommodate). So, it's  a nice place for groups..yet it's also a nice place for  intimate dining with a friend or two. I even took my mother there, who usually do not like to go to restaurants. The underground heated garage is a plus for all the restaurants and stores in the West End, but what's great about Cooper's is that the underground parking is directly underneath the restaurant, so you don't even walk outside in below freezing temps!
Review Source:Went before a movie.  Very friendly staff, no waiting (Sunday afternoon).  I had the chicken and hummus wrap.  It was heavenly.  Actually, I'd have loved it more without the chicken and add some tomatoes, but still - num!  Husband had the fish sandwich.  He doesn't raphsodize about food the way I do, so all I got for an opinion was, "Yeah, it's good."  lol  We'll definitely be back.  Fabulous ambience-it's sort of like the parent of Potbelly's - with a bar.  ;-)  And many more food choices.  I loved it.
Review Source:While staying in St Loius Park, this was our go-to restaurant... Our group probably ate at Cooper's more than a dozen time in about 6 weeks.
The bison burger and quinoa salad were big winners for us, as well as the generous pours from the folks behind the bar. Â We constantly came into the restaurant and we were always seated as quick as was possible, and the host' staff always figured out how to configure some sort of table to accommodate all of us.
It's a busy place -- that's the only knock I'd have against it... which isn't really a knock at all, as it means that there a lot of people out there like me, who will constantly keep going back to Cooper's.
If you're in St Louis Park, this is your best bet for dinner out, as we sampled all the competitors (repeatedly) along the adjacent streets, and Cooper's is, hands down, the winner!
Met a couple of friends here for happy hour the other day. Â We hadn't been here in a couple of years and I really don't recall it being as busy as it was on the night we visited. Â The place was packed and very, very loud. Â We were informed it would be about a 15 minute wait for a table. Â No big deal. Â We got buzzed about 10 minutes later and fortunately were given a table in the much more quiet back room. Â We started with a round of beers. Â Beer selection was pretty much all Irish beers. Â Personally I'd like to see some local selections on their tap list, but that's just me. Â We moved onto appetizers, the wild rice stuffed mushrooms, pub pretzel and chicken shots. Â The mushrooms were outstanding. Â The pretzel was very good and the spicy mustard served with it was indeed very spicy, good stuff! Â The chicken shots were not too exciting. Â After another round of beers, a couple of us were hungry and decided to order dinner. Â I went with the bison burger which was ok but not great. Â It was a bit on the dry side. Â
Overall, not a bad spot for a happy hour but nothing too amazing.
We had such high hopes... Yelp reviewers, we were let down.
First of all, when we walked in, our first impressions were great. Nice decor, pleasant staff greeting, cute waitresses (I know, sexist) Â the place was buzz with folks talking everywhere.
We started with the pretzel appetizer. These weren't your standard, funky figure-8 salty, doughy snacks. These were torpedoes, but still salty & yummy. The mustard was sinus clearing, eye watering English spicy mustard. Excellent.
But alas, the good experience was not to last. Things went south when the entrees arrived. My wife had the Reuben on sourdough. The sourdough was more akin to a white bread, no tangy, lactic goodness, no decent chew. The meat however, was good. Nice spice, not overly doused with dressing. But the meat/bread ration was off. It was a toasted white bread sandwich with a bit of meat.
Me, I had the fish-n-chips. The fries appeared a bit over cooked, and they were. And tasted like frozen ones at that. The fish, I like the crusty batter. It wasn't greasy, or too heavy. It was crunchy & tasty. But the fish inside was insipid. They tasted like the frozen fish sticks I buy at the grocers for the kids when I'm too lazy to cook. I was hungry yet I couldn't bring myself to finish it off.
But we were hungry and waiting for friends, so we stayed. When they arrived we warned them about the poor entrees, so they ordered the cheese plate. Here we gained an interesting insight to the restaurant's management style.
The waitress delivered the cheese tray and listed off the cheeses. But she didn't know which cheese was which. When our friends asked about the flavors, she stated, "I don't know, they don't let us try the food."
Don't let us try the food? And we now know why, so the wait staff will not tell customers how the kitchen execution is boring, unremarkable, and downright poor.
Go there if you must, but I would not recommend giving precious eating dollars to this establishment when there are other restaurants nearby that can at least make it to Yelp's "A-OK."
By the way, the cheese tray was good. Just don't expect to find out which cheese is which...
I've been to Cooper a couple of times now, seeing as how Showplace is now my main theater, and there's really a few restaurant options I could choose from when I come to West End. Â That said, I like Cooper just fine. Very much so, in fact, after my last brunch visit this winter.
In general, I like the Cara Irish Pubs (Kieran's, Local, Cooper, haven't been to Liffey yet). They have really good happy hours, hearty fare, gorgeous interiors, friendly and accommodating service, and of course, Guinness. Cooper checks all those requirements, plus the added bonus of having the reuben rolls, which I'm really miffed that they took away from the Local. Their food is reasonably priced and what you'd expect from a solid Irish pub/restaurant. I think I've had their fish and chips for dinner, which was light and flaky goodness, and their baked cheddar and tomato is great to have any season.
But, I was really happily surprised to find out they have the full Irish breakfast. I've not been to Ireland yet -- although I really think I'm meant to go there and find me a stocky Irishman to marry -- but I've had a similar breakfast in London, where I was first introduced to the miracle that is baked beans and toast. And, the Irish breakfast has that, plus four meats (ridiculously, superfluously awesome), a grilled tomato slice, and two eggs. Oh my goodness, when the plate came out to me, I almost teared up with joy. Ok, maybe not, but it definitely brought me back to Raffles restaurant in Paddington where I first tried beans and toast. Cooper's toast is thick and buttery, and dipping it into the yolk of my sunny side eggs and spooning a healthy amount of baked beans on top...man, sweet breakfast nirvana. Simple, salty, buttery goodness.
If you're looking for a great happy hour and food in the West End, head over to Cooper.
The beer selection is rather expansive, as are their happy hour specials. While the restaurant gets a little loud, the food makes it all worth it. I've had the pot roast and the fish and chips and haven't been disappointed by either. You won't get the best meal of your life here, but you'll have a damn good meal and won't have to break the bank to enjoy it.
After a nearly agonizing discussion of which place are we going to try next, the decision to try Coopers was made. Â My friend and I arrived early afternoon on a few Fridays back with no real expectations.
Nice place with great decor and a friendly bartender. Â
When Happy Hour hit, this place got crowded and being I'm never afraid to converse with neither strange drinkers nor drunk strangers we were having a good time.
Oh! Â The food I had was very good, too. Â I had the Chicken Sandwich recommended by the bartender and my friend Rob had the Meatloaf which he claimed was near top notch.
The only thing that could have made it just that much better would have been a larger beer selection. Â However, I really dig a beer glass with the name of what you're drinking on it. Â Coopers has that!!
I was in here a couple weeks ago for lunch. Â I hadn't been here in a year-or-two but it was still great. Â I had the meatloaf sandwich and also sampled the wontons. Â I, hands down, have never had a better sandwich in my ENTIRE LIFE. Â I was hesitant to order it because I usually stick with food that I know, but I'm glad I did. Â It was amazing. Â I don't even know how to describe it. Â Seemed like a good mix of people doing some day drinking and it was a relaxed vibe. Â What I don't necessarily like is the seating. Â We opted for a table back by the windows because some of the seating seemed so invasive as you sort of sit in the middle of everyone. Â That's my style at night if I'm out having a few but when I eat I like to be a little more comfortable...that's probably just me but whatever :)
The one thing that sold me on this place and made the experience memorable was the fact that the manager stopped by our table to thank us for coming in and stopped to see how everything was at the end of the meal. Â That sort of service I've only seen at one other restaurant, which was also at in Irish pub in Boca Raton, and it's nice to see that your business is appreciated. Â I will definitely be back in the future.
I went to this fine establishment for brunch after church on Sunday. I was pleasantly surprised. I love love love the decor!!
We ordered the artichoke dip and I kid you not, it was gone within two minutes. Did I mention I was there with two other people?
My sister ordered the chicken curry (They made an exception for us as this is usually served for lunch/dinner) and my other sister got the eggs Benedict. I ordered a second order of the artichoke dip. Yes it was that good!
I can't wait to visit this place when the Vikings aren't getting royally flushed on the multiple screens!
Big place in The West End with so many dining options in the area.
I picked the fish and chips and with fish and chips i don't think there is ever a knock your socks off level. Â I think the goodness level tops off at good but can be greasy, not prepared well (too done or not done enough) or not hot. Â Everything was top notch along with the service and speed of food preparation and delivery.
I'd come back, good pre-movie dining.
I grew up near the St. Louis Park area and I have to admit it's great to see such an upscale schopping and entertainment complex like the West End move into what was an otherwise boring space. It has transformed the area into a meeting spot for people coming both from Downtown Minneapolis and the upper class western suburbs. The result is an experience unique to the West End.
Cooper is one of the many dining options in this complex. It is located next to the new Little Szechuan & Toby Keith's. I know this is going to sound weird but parking is a pleasure there. They have a free above and below ground parking ramp--the underground parking is well-lit and heated in winter which is great in Minnesota. It is also very close to both the western suburbs like Minnetonka and Downtown Minneapolis--easily accessible from highway 394.
The positive aspects of this establishment are that they are open really late even on weekdays--making it a great spot for night owls. They also have a really nice interior with high ceilings and a classy looking bar area.
The food, however, isnt anything that I would consider special. Some of the menu items are unique, but the flavors are lacking. Ive sampled several things here and nothing really blew me away. If I had to recommend an entree, I would have to say that my favorite thing is the "salmon toast" which is basically a salmon sandwich on toasted bread. My least favorite item is the wild rice burger which is made almost entirely of chick peas and wild rice--no meat.
I can't really review the bar, because I dont tend to drink much when Im out. So, keep in mind that I didnt take this into consideration.
Pros: Parking, convenient location, open late, nice interior dining space, outdoor seating
Cons: Average food, can get extremely busy during peak times, it can also be LOUD in there
Please keep in mind that I came here on a Sunday afternoon....
Friendly staff. Â Had a couple beers and they were cold and were brought to me in a quick-like fashion. Â Of course there were about 5 people in the place total.
Nicely appointed decor-wise and I could easily see myself getting a happy hour beer or 3 here with friends at some point.
As of the time I pound this review out, I haven't eaten. Â Not sure if I will, either. Â Already had lunch (oops)... but we'll see.
Also, free wi-fi and the hostess was very accommodating in giving me seating options that would be near a plug to get power for my laptop.
I'm a fan!
Cooper is reliable. Cooper is that trustworthy friend that you can tell a bad joke to and will still laugh.
If that makes sense and you find yourself near the West End with a rumble in your tummy, make your stop at Cooper's.
I enjoyed the two calorie conscious drinks on the cocktail menu. I had the "lo-cal cooler" which is something that is slightly embarrassing to order but incredibly worth it. Smashed grapes inside were a nice touch. The Skinny Ginger was tasty too. Everything I've eaten has been good and worth its lower price.
Good atmosphere, cool design and reliable food/drinks.
This is a pretty cool place. Huge bar -- only part I didn't like were the huge partitions separating parts of the bar. If you sat next to one, you could only see half the restaurant. Why put those huge things in the middle of the bar? They didn't' seem to do anything to support the bar so why are they there?
Anyway, I ordered walleye fish and chips and there was plenty of food and it was good. The batter was light on the fish. Something I've never figured out about Minnesotans -- they love their walleye but it always tastes so bland to me -- I don't get what the big deal is about it. I'd much rather have a tastier, flakier fish than the walleye I've eaten. I keep trying it but never really find any I truly love. I probably should've ordered the cod instead. I am not dinging Cooper's for the taste of the fish though, as it was as good or better than any other walleye I've had (which isn't saying much).
One other thing I tried here was the 2Gingers Irish Whisky which lines the walls of the bar. I've never heard of 2Gingers but it was good stuff... better than Jameson's. I even came back the next night for another round.
If you're staying at one of the local hotels, I'd highly recommend this as dinner destination for at least one night. There are a lot of really cool restaurants in the area, if you're willing to drive a couple miles also.
I would probably rate higher but service was slow.
We stopped in for just a few beers on a Saturday afternoon. It was so packed it was hard to find a spot for two of us to hang in the bar area. The staff was overwhelmed. They tried hard but just couldn't keep up.
We left after two beers due to it being so busy we didnt want to wait on food or service.
I just wanted to update my reviews of this place because i have not in a while. I have been to coopers many times after the first review because this place is wonderful. The staff is very friendly and the service has always been quick when i have gone. The food is amazing but it seems that the recipe has changed on there whisky chicken shots. The seem to be more dry now and not as good as they use to be. Other than that everything else is amazing. The scotch selection is good and the beer selection is good. This place will continue to get my business.
I have had many events at coopers and the local and the event planner is great she has been amazing and makes the exuberance memorable. I would recommend calling in or even emailing them  to reserve for large party.
I used to live in the SLP right around the corner from the West End back before it existed. Â The area where Cooper now stands was a barren wasteland of ugly, half empty office buildings. Â I sorely regret not having this booming area to enjoy while I lived there. Â C'est la vie I guess.
First off, I am a big fan of the Cara Irish Pub family (Cooper, Kieran's, the Liffey & the Local).  I've never been to Ireland, but Cooper, and its sister establishments, are what I picture when I think of a traditional Irish pub.  The open atmosphere, rich dark woodwork, beautiful glass work and good food and drink.  I have been to Cooper several times, mostly for their happy hour, which is fantastic.  The food is solid, nothing extraordinary, just plain good.  After all, the Irish have never been known for their fare.  But check out the chicken bites, hummus plate, and the reuben.  Those are few of my faves.  Oh, and don't forget to try their signature Big Ginger cocktail.  It is so damn good.  Especially now that the weather is warming up.  I can't possibly  think of a better summertime drink.
Probably the only thing Cooper lacks is a decent outdoor seating option. Â Now, they do offer outdoor seating, but its on the sidewalk right next to the bustling traffic on Park Place. Â So if you don't mind a little exhaust with your Guiness and a little car horn with your conversation, then I suggest you check it out!
For some reason, the old TV show "Hangin with Mr. Cooper," just came into my head. Holler at me if you know what I'm even talking about. (Those born after 1989 will probably have no clue).
Anywho, the point is, I dig me some irish pub action. A good Ginger will always do the trick. The food is pretty stellar too...I think I've had the wild rice burger and the tomato soup (will probably kill you and make you fat but it is damn good).
Prices are pretty typical for the West End area and service was not too shabby.
Good happy hour menu, and they gave me the most delicious chocolate cake I've ever had in my life on my birthday. I would go back and just order Gingers and chocolate cake.
Since my first 2-star review more than two years ago, I have been back several times. Â Each time it grows on me a little bit, but I will never see it as a dinner destination (maybe that's not what they're going for, I don't know).
Breakfast and lunch are good (breakfasts are big enough to split and they have one of the best veggie burgers in town) but dinners and appetizers always fail to do anything for me.
But it's worked its way up from 2 stars to 3 over the past 2 years. Â Who knows, maybe in two more years they'll figure out the appetizers and get another star.
I'm not sure what's taken me so long to review Cooper but have say that this place is one of my favorite SLP restaurants/bars. Â Being a fan of The Local, I was pretty excited when I found out that Cooper was opening up in my neck of the woods a few years ago as the West End was being developed. Â The interior of this place is pretty neat and has an old world charm despite opening only a few years ago.
The food here is pretty good, with their breakfast/brunch selections being my favorite. Â I've had their Cooper breakfast and corned beef hash plates both of which were great and a ton of food. Â Aside from the food, Cooper has great selection of beers and drinks (try the Big Ginger) to choose from and regular happy hour that ends at 6:30PM as well as a late night happy hour which starts at 10PM.
Very busy tonight, I just got home, but the waitress we had was AMAZING! Unfortunately couldn't tell you her name. My date had the Cooper burger off the late menu and she said it was pretty good, I had the Pretzel appetizer and the hot mustard was HOT! like fiery hot! It was great! If you are a spicy food fan you HAVE to try this mustard...I think it should be put on Chicago style hot dogs. The cheese that came with the pretzels was great too, it was a smoky solid spreadable cheddar cheese that was spectacular in taste and weird in texture, but great nonetheless. I seriously want the hot mustard recipe...someone hook me up?
PS Copper...please fire the musician...if you expect to be a cover band, at least know the majority of the songs words
I will honestly say that when I saw the West End being built in the middle of a recession I never dreamed it would attract as much business as it does. Â Every time I have been to Coopers (or other restaurants) it is always packed. Â It's a good thing that Coopers is huge and is able to accommodate such a large crowd - especially for happy hour.
The food and drinks are all very comparable to the local and are good but heavy. Â The fries are delicious as they are the thicker cut "chips" typical of our neighbors on the other side of the ocean. Â I also have had really good service, especially for a very crowded restaurant. Â I love that they are able to accommodate ranges of groups from 2 to very large. Â It's also a great spot to stop before heading to the movie theatre or shopping. Â Lastly, the parking is amazing. Â The west end in general has underground (I believe also heated) parking. Â I use this every time and there is no need to worry about snow!
I love the atmosphere at Cooper's Pub and have been there multiple times. I brought my friend from Australia and he also loved it. Cooper's has a great room that fits15-20 people so if you're interested in having a little get together there it is great. I have never had to wait long when I am there and the outdoor seating is great to. Your view may be the street but the food makes it worth it. I love all the sea food dishes and the prices are reasonable too.
I just went back to Cooper's the other day and I had to say you have to try the Tomato Bisque soup. One of the best soups I have had in a long time. Big servings and delicious taste.
The decor! This place is Gorgeous with a capital G! The round wood bar is stocked with all sorts of booze and there is a ton of space to stand if you are waiting for a table. The ceilings are painted! If you're bored with your date all you have to do is look at the ceiling and bam, you're entertained.
My man and I hit up Cooper before a movie and had no trouble getting a seat at around eight pm on a Saturday night. My boyfriend was impressed with their beer selection, and they of course had red wine, so I was fine with my drink.
I had to get the fish and chips and wanted so badly to be blown away but alas, I was not. The breading on the fish was good and you get to choose between walleye or cod which is a nice touch, but I expected them to wow me. Â Also, the tarter sauce was a little bland, I'm all about the tarter sauce so it really threw me off with its lack of flavor. The fries were standard fries, nothing spectacular but were pretty awesome when doused with malt vinegar.
I have been to Cooper another time for Happy Hour and was much more impressed with the appetizers and drink specials then I was with my fish and chips. I was expecting to be wowed by the higher prices at Cooper's, but it made me want to run to Anchor in NE to get my fix.
I solid Irish Pub in the suburbs, it has a nice vibe and I like the overall look of the place. It is rather noisey in there, so dont expect to be able to talk to people at the other end of the table.
We had a group of 8 for my dad's 60th Birthday this past friday and we checked out Cooper Pub. I have been to Liffey, Kierans, and this is same ownership group so I knew what to expect.
I ordered my standard fish n chips, and they were up to standards I'm used too. The steak and mushroom pie looked delicious, even for a non fungus eater like myself.
They have a tomato and chedder soup that is pretty good. It has almost a marinara flavor to it and it makes you want to dip breaksticks into it. It's very good soup, I realize that may not sound good, but try it, you'll see what I'm talking about.
They ID everyone who looked under 40. My 35 year old brother in law didn't bring his ID and they wouldn't serve him. I wont fault them for their policy, but it made me laugh a little. My sister however did go get him a beer at the bar, ahh cheating the system.
All in all a solid place, It's very busy being next to a huge theater, but if you're in the area, will worth a stop.
Upon walking into this location it was packed due to local and near by events so we did have to wait in a 20 minute line just for two people to sit on a Thursday night. Â The hostess was giggling with someone to her side and didn't even greet my friend and I till we did the awkward 'cough' but then she was very pleasant.
The bar was packed, the walking room made for 'standing way too close' claustrophobia but the wait went quickly. At just 8pm they were dimming the lights as they led my friend and I to a back table in the rear of the restaurant and we sat just near the dart board and pool table - so we had entertainment just a foot from our table the entire experience. The wait staff was friendly and prompt and the staff puts a RESERVED sign on the table until you sit down and they remove it for exchange of your water and utensils; nice touch.
My friend and I both ordered a wine suggested by the wait staff (who didn't know much about the selection with the exception of the house wines) and just a small bite to eat as it was late at night. My friend got the soft serve pretzels and mustard with a house dipping sauce and I ordered the 'famous' Tomato Basil soup with house made croutons under melted cheese.
The soup was creamy, served hot and piping with delicate and salty croutons; delicious! The pretzels were what you would expect but the hot mustard had so much wasabi mixed in you could barely enjoy it. The wines were smooth but our bill came to well over $50.00 for just a cup of soup, an appetizer and two wines to the bite to eat was a bit over priced for the atmosphere and quality of the edibles.
All in all the experience wasn't bad - the place was clean, entertaining and the staff was okay and the food settled well... I would go back if I had money to burn.
My boyfriend and I were early to see a movie so we stopped at Cooper for a drink before the film. This is also after I had already been to Cooper twice that week midst a happy hour and a work meeting.
It was really busy that night, but we were served right away from our bar stools. Gotta love that Big Ginger, man. Their house 2 Ginger's Whiskey + ginger ale + lemon + lime = yumgasm. With all that whiskey, I've actually never ordered food here as a customer or sat anywhere but the bar, so I'll have to review that next time.
I am a big fan of the design of all the Kieran's joints, with the dark, pubtastic atmosphere. It's exactly the opposite of my own personal interior design tastes, but they aren't foolin' (even in this mall) and I like that.
Notes: Private room for large party rentals, gluten-free menu available
I've been to Cooper twice. Once for a baby shower (hosted in the private dining room) and once for appetizers and drinks with family and friends. The food is overpriced and they have a limited selection of healthy (read: healthier) items. The only positive with this restaurant is the location as I have friends and family all over the Twin Cities metro area (Minneapolis side).
I ordered the Chicken Cheddar Chopped Salad and they failed to include the chicken on the salad. They remedied the situation but the chicken portion size was almost too small to see against the giant croutons.
I ordered the Chicken Shots (as did my brother) and the chicken on both orders was overcooked and my brother's plate was missing the ranch dressing. I also ordered a cup of the Tomato Basil soup and I felt as though I had tasted it somewhere. Then I realized that it tasted EXACTLY like the tomato basil soup at Whole Foods. I enjoyed the Whole Foods/Cooper tomato basil soup and had wished I ordered a bowl instead of a cup plus chicken shots.
I understand that the West End area is trying to be uppity, however, a true pub should have an aged and relaxed atmosphere. This pub is too upscale, the menu is too big, and the prices are too high.
Well 4:30 pm on a Friday night and "Cooper" is where it's at. This is a must "go to" spot to meet some friends for happy hour or just enjoy some food. It's in a great location and has easy access to lots of underground parking.
The bar area is so inviting with it's U-shape and can accommodate just a few or large groups. Staff here are always friendly and if "Ryan" the manager is working he will make sure you go home satisfied.
They have an extended happy hour from 2 to 6:30 pm Monday - Friday and 10 to 12 am nightly. No matter what your schedule is you should be able to make a time work. Another plus here is their back room which can accommodate large groups for a party or meeting.
I love making Cooper a meeting place. There's a great "vibe" here.
My expectations were not high for this new dining establishment in the half-opened West End lifestyle center-wanna be thing at the intersection of 394 and 100. I figured a new restaurant would please all the employees that work in the surrounding area. I was right. The place was packed at 11:40 am today. It's apparently the place to be if you work around Xenia/Park Place. Well, I can understand their excitement; I would have been bored silly with my lunch options after one month of working in the area.
So, I decided to give it a go. Like Rachel G said, the underground parking is great and will be a definite plus come, uh, next month. Walked in and thought it was --ah, how do I put it? -- ornate. Something like Ireland meets DaVinci. But whatever. The bar is really nice.
We ate at the bar, since it was pretty crowded. The bartender was really nice. We ordered the "Wee Lunch". For 7.99 you get a wee bit of salad, fries, mini-sandwich and soda -- and it includes tax AND tip. Not bad at all. They weren't lying, it is "wee" in size, but it was the perfect amount for me. My rueben was dry, but I attribute that to it being served on a rye bun rather than bread...they probably do that to control portion size though.
Will I be back? I have a sneaking suspicion that I will be due to a meeting in the area or something, and I'm cool with that. Do I think it's a good lunch deal? Yeah, I do. Would I recommend the lunch deal to someone who is a buffet fan? Nope.
Am I happy that I don't work around Xenia/Park Place? Totally.
