i am really disappointed in this place. Â i read the other reviews and thought wow, i must try this place. Â we pulled up in the gas station parking lot to the red truck and the guy took our order. Â it took about ten minutes to make, which is all good....but once home i was absolutely shocked that anyone on this site gave it such high ratings. Â i am sorry but the baked beans truly tasted worse than out of a can and the macaroni was gross. Â truly gross and everything is drenched in sauce to mask the taste. Â oh well, i will never cheat on tom jenkins again. Â tom's is the best.
Review Source:Lots of hub-bub about this road side BBQ truck and it is well deserved attention.
We drove over to Deep Down South BBQ from the beach in Fort Lauderdale and found the same red trailer that everyone else describes, what I found appealing from the start was a lot of people waiting for BBQ and everyone in the place had a huge smile on his or her face. Â Friendly patrons offered well received suggestions the likes of garlic crab. Â Can't wait to return here for that one. Â
Little to say about parking or street appeal but if you are after awesome smoky BBQ then this is it!!! Â
I ordered the BBQ Rib plate and for $11.00 was turned on to about the best meal I have treated my self to in South Florida. Â This is not the place for a romantic rendevous, but, you aren't gonna get better take out anywhere in the city. Â The sides were awesome flavorful collard greens and the cheesiest home made mac and cheese I've had in a long time. Â Home baked goodness is the best way to describe that one. Â
Finished off with one of the best bananna puddings I ever had in my mouth. Â Thanks Deep South and keep the Deep South goodness coming.
I would have never stopped at this road side bbq joint unless someone I knew/trusted told me it was good.
I pulled up and the restaurant is a huge red trailer parked in a gas station on the NW corner of Sunrise Blvd and Nw 31 Ave. Everything is to go and there is no where to sit. I walked to the window and was greeted by the owner Al. He was very pleasant and I was very happy to find out that he is a Former United States Marine, like me. After some Devil Dog small talk he recommended that I try the Rib Sandwich. After I asked about the pulled pork and the fried shrimp I decided to get the Rib Sandwich with sides of coleslaw and Mac and cheese. In about 15 minutes he handed me my food and said, I placed some pulled pork and a couple fried shrimp for you to try. I couldn't thank him enough for doing a solid like that to a complete stranger. Good Karma folks:)
I took my food back to the office and opened the two containers and said...WOW, this looks and smells good. The sauce came on the side and I drowned the ribs and the pulled pork with the sauce. Man this stuff was freakin good. The ribs were falling off the bone and the pulled pork was nice and moist. The bbq sauce was perfect, not to hot not to mild. The mac and cheese was homemade and tasted like he baked it. The coleslaw was sweet and tasty.
Overall this place, in my opinion, is one of the top 5 BBQ joints in Broward. Not to scare anyone, but this joint is not located in one of the best areas in Broward , but it's worth a try. Remember to tell Big Al, Semper Fi and Stay Hungry!
Oh Deep Down South BBQ, I wish that I could give you 1,000,000 stars and marry the owner so that he could personally serve me your succulent ribs daily until I resemble a contestant on the Biggest Loser. *SIGH* For a BBQ and food lover such as myself, there really are no words to describe this food. Before I moved to Florida, I was here visiting some close friends and asked them where we could find some great BBQ on the Holiday (don't remember which one it was). We wanted to go to a great "cook out" but didn't have one to go to. So I started texting around and asking and, out of nowhere more than one person told me there was some great BBQ sold out of a big red truck in a gas station on Sunrise not too far from 95. My first thought was, WHAT? Can we say GHETTO? I'm not going to get my holiday dinner plate from a gas station parking lot I thought in my Midwestern uppity-ness!! But no other options came up so there we went.
Boy, was I wrong. When we pulled up to the gas station there were already several people waiting around for their plates. As soon as I got out of the car my mouth started watering from the smells and I prayed that the taste would not betray the wonderful odor finding its way to my nose. I don't remember how long we waited but I heard on the evenings on weekends it can get pretty busy but like I said, this was a Holiday but still clientele was steady. I don't remember the menu too well (this was 2 years ago) but I do remember that it was some of the most amazing BBQ I've ever had and definitely the best in South Florida (since I live here now I can say that). Everything, sauce, marinade, sides, to perfection. Sliding off the bone, perfect meat. Macaroni and cheese will make you wanna slap yo mama. I'm getting upset just thinking about it.
Although this was 2 years ago, it was so good (I forget everything) I still remember what I got and what my gf got. I had ribs, fried shrimp, mac n cheese, collard greens, and beans. Oh, and some peach cobbler on the side. It was the kind of meal I wanted to wipe all over my face like a toddler in a hi-chair. I wanted to roll around in it like a pig. I almost cried with tears of joy, and no people, I will never admit to wanting to or having lick the wax paper at the bottom of the container. What kind of woman do you think I am?
Anywho, anyone that loves soul food and BBQ. If you sleep on this place, you are a fool. The red trailer BBQ truck in the Exxon gas station parking lot on 31st/Sunrise is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I wish I could attach the trailer to my little coupe and drag it further down into south Broward. I will be going again for the first time in a long time, this weekend. The little fat girl inside me cannot wait. And as the other reviewer said, its a truck in a parking lot, there is nowhere to eat. But this BBQ is worth eating sitting down, walking, lying, tied up, running, whatever way you can get it. Grab a plate and take it to the drive-in movie theater right there if home is too far away but you have GOT to try it.
Oh, and I've never heard that they accept phone orders because they never have a phone number listed and nobody I know has heard of this? But I'll ask them and update this weekend if they accept call-in orders.
Here is a REAL REVIEW.

Deep Down South BBQ is freakin' amazing. You've probably driven past it a gazillion times without even realizing it. It's a trailer in a gas station parking lot... yeah, that red trailer in the gas station parking lot just east of the Swap Shop on Sunrise Blvd... yeah, a trailer. But seriously don't let that freak you out.
I think that fact that there was a small crowd waiting with me for BBQ this saturday evening IN THE RAIN is a testament to how good this place is. We ordered pulled pork and spare ribs (the guy at the register really pushed them... after i ordered the ribs and my boyfriend ordered the pulled pork the guy behind the counter told my boy that he seriously needed to try one of mine)
Prices are pretty reasonable for bbq... my meal - a ton of ribs smothered in sauce (maybe a little TOO much, but not enough that made me dislike my mea.. but next time i'm asking for SOS - sauce on the sidel) and two sides (half an ear of yellow corn and deliciously crunchy homemade mac-n-cheese) was about $11 and my boyfriend's full pound of pulled pork (with a slice of garlic toast... mine came with that too) was about $9.
There's nowhere to sit and eat Deep Down South BBQ unless you want to throw out a picnic blanket next to the gas pumps so you are forced to endure your drive home smelling how delicious the food is before you get a chance to taste it. Halfway home and I was already thinking about marketing a bbq-scented air freshener.
The food is just as delicious as it smells.... thank god! The ribs were tender and smoky and the sauce was perfect... the tanginess and spice were just right. Can't tell you about the pulled pork cause my boyfriend devoured it right quick but i'd assume it was pretty awesome too
Deep Down South BBQ is definitely a new favorite (i think they might have beat out tom jenkins and georgia pig in my book) ... they are only open thursday-sunday though and have some wacky hours so make sure you check that they are open before you head down. Another fan of bbq told us while we were waiting for our food (15 min or so) that they accept call in orders so if you have a big order or the weather is kinda crappy I'd do that.
