The Dek Bar is exactly as advertised: a dumpy, dive bar spot in Cape Coral with amazingly cheap prices and clientele.
For our first time visit, we went for the $10 Pitcher and Pizza combo. It is, without question, a great deal -- and worth every penny. The Yuengling pitcher, served with frosted pint glasses, was delightfully cold. The large thin crust, cheese pizza was bubbling out of the oven and pretty darned good. Parmesan and crushed red pepper shakers are always within arm's reach, so you can add some cheesy kick to suit your taste. Happy happy.
If you're looking for ambience, forget it. Your plastic pitcher and ancient vinyl barstool are complemented by the tacky bar signs pushing 25-cent specials, the grubby floors, and the almost-full ashtrays. You'll eat your pizza on small paper plates, with a plastic fork and a roll of paper towels.
And you know what? It doesn't really matter. You won't even miss the ambience, while you're chowing down on your yummy cheesy pie and chasing it with ice cold beer.
The Reverend, who plays live music on Sundays, is a crowd pleaser -- and the regulars have obviously memorized the entire set. More than once, the entire bar broke into song, with everyone singing some long-time favorite melody loudly and horribly out of tune. :)
If you can't love a moment like that, the very concept of a dive bar is lost on you. If that sounds like one helluva way to cap your weekend, The Dek might be just your spot.
