I'm inclined to give this place a 2 star rating due to the substantially greasy egg white omelet I ordered sided with an unimpressive fruit salad however my friend ordered a BLT with chips that looked amazing and the owner here is such a nice fella. It's a family owned operation and they couldn't be more welcoming and friendly which pushes me to return and try something else on the menu. I hear they have one of  the best chai lattes in town too. =)
Review Source:I wanted to love this place, but the service makes that impossible.
I came in to pick up a to go order and i was greeted, paid and asked to wait. What was I waiting for? The skinny, very blonde girl with massive hipster glasses to finish her lunch. I flipped through magazines, read an article or two and began thinking how long does it take to latte soup?
I decided to put down the magazine and go ask what was the hold up. Upon eye contact the girl put down her fork and went to the window to pick up my soup. WOW.
The soup was fine, nothing too special and you can get it as good from a can with more chicken. I hate to interrupt people so i won't be back.
This place has so many healthy breakfast options. I feel healthier just walking in. Coffee and fritatas are great. A few times I just ordered a breakfast sandwich to go.. I have been here usually on weekdays so service isn't too bad but the time that I did go on a weekend...service was slow. One waitress for the whole place. If you just want a place to relax and have some coffee and goodies...this is a good place.
Review Source:It's a cross between coffee cafe and retro diner. Â I stopped for breakfast-to-go during the week, it was pretty low key.
I ordered an iced chai and an egg white fritatta. Â The chai was a good bold and spicy brew, just the kind of kick I needed in the morning. Â The fritatta was a bit of a let down. Â The cheese was a little on the rubbery side, the eggs and potatoes were pretty flavorless. Â And nowhere in my to-go bag did I have any salt or pepper. Â However, I did have enough butter pads to butter an entire loaf of bread. Â
I digged the atmosphere more than the food. Â Mediocre at best.
What a disappointment! Â My girlfriend and I stopped in for brunch with a fairly tight schedule of 70 minutes. Â Our waitress came quickly with menus, but walked away without asking if we wanted to order a drink immediately. Â She returned after a short time for our drink order, but did not offer to take our food order. Â Admittedly, we should have pressed our order right then, but the place was clearing out and we felt we had time. Â Wrong!
A few minutes passed when the waitress returned with our drinks in plastic to-go cups. Â She gave no explanation, nor did we ask. Â Everyone in the place had glassware, so we excussed the issue with thoughts that they must be out of clean glasses at the moment. Â We sat talking a while when we finally discussed that it had been too long with no food arriving, 30 minutes since the order was placed at least.
The place had cleared out, so we were concerned about why we had no food. Â We decided to ask when we could, but our waitress was AWOL. Â Next we saw her she was delivering food to a single diner who had arrived at least 20 minutes after us. Â We caught her and asked on our food. Â She made a quick excuse as she kept walking away from us that they had been very busy, so the kitchen was behind. Â We waited another 10 to 15 minutes and asked her to box our food when it came up as we had no time to eat now. Â We received our bill which showed an hour had passed since we placed our order with her and we still had no food. Â We did finally receive our boxed food a few minutes later.
My girlfriend rushed off to work with no breakfast and no opportunity to eat until 4 pm today and I returned home, less than 5 minutes away, to find my flapjacks cold. Â I do not know who made the error and do not care. Â I will not be returning and I suggest you chose a different Sunday brunch location.
The reviewers who complained about the service were spot on. Â The problem is that the kitchen is small and seems to be staffed by well-intentioned amateurs. Â We came at noon on a Saturday and found seats immediately. Â (This is a "seat yourself" establishment.) Â Unfortunately, our server warned us that we'd be left to our own devices for 15 minutes because the kitchen was backed up. Â We tried to get things rolling in the right direction by requesting that she take our drink orders right away. Â She did, sort of, but that didn't make our food come any faster. Â We persuaded our server to take our orders fairly soon, but we still had to wait and wait before the kitchen was able to deal with us.
I ordered the "special": two eggs, browned potatoes, bacon, Italian toast. Â The latter consisted of toasted slices of Italian bread. Â The bacon was overcooked by my standards. Â In fact, it was overcooked by all standards: it was so hard that I couldn't pierce it with the tines of my fork. Â The eggs were of supermarket-quality (i.e., nothing special). Â There was nothing egregiously wrong with Demitasse but I'm sure that there are better options up and down the street. Â Chez Joel looked pretty good to us when we went walking after our lunch.
I went here as a youngster in the first couple weeks they were open...long ago!
Sometimes I go often, I like it late morning it isn't too crowded on a weekday (closed Mondays I believe).
I like the coffee variety, the baked goods and the waffles I have had here were excellent and I like the old ice cream parlor vibe.
The au lait is usually the best.
I would have given Demitasse a 5 star if I was rating their coffee alone. They roast they're own and it is honestly the best I have had! I enjoy going into Demitasse for a coffee when Laura and Justin are working. They are very friendly, provide great service and make a MEAN latte! However, I am not a big fan on the food service. It is very inconsistent on timing and portions... especially potatoes. Just throw on some more potatoes!
I recommend you stop in for a bag of their coffee beans, they have a large variety of flavors and you won't regret it!
I have never had a bad experience here
Demitasse an inexpensive place to relax and have breakfast or lunch, nice and simple
my faves::
French Toast Â
Tuna Salad/ Fruit
croissant breakfast sandwich
plain old eggs and toast with chicken sausage (with pico)
as far as service, It is  e x a c t l y  what it should be.
cafe work is very tedious, and the hours are long, the check average is not that of a trendy brunch place, and for you whiny yelpers, I wouldn't want to run up and down and around for your $3.50 tip either
Disclaimer
(avoid the fritattas and scrambled eggs)
This place doesn't look like much from the outside or the inside, but the breakfast food is awesome...particularly the french toast. Â It's three pieces of brioche filled with a sweet cream and topped with strawberries and bananas. Â The sweet cream is AMAZING. Â Though some may think it is a little too sweet, it's balanced out by the brioche which is soft and can be cut with a fork. Â The strawberries and bananas are ripe and add just the right amount of fruitiness to the french toast. Â The only downside is that you have to order your sides separately, but it only comes out to be about $12 for the entire meal...that is IF you get the french toast.
If you do get the sides, prepared to be beyond full when you leave. Â The french toast alone is meal enough for most, but I tend to like my eggs and sausage/bacon with my breakfast and the combo will keep you full until dinner.
Now, looking at everyone's comments, people seem to be quite irked by the servers, but honestly, Demitasse is within the heart of the UIC campus. Â The servers are college students...who wouldn't be a little stink-faced that early in the morning and then have to go to class? Â Every time I've gone, the servers have always come back to ask if we're doing alright and though they can seem as if they don't want to be there, I sympathize with their situation and applaud them for having jobs and wanting to make money on their own instead of constantly relying on mommy and daddy. Â If you want a fine-dining experience, there are other places to try.
As for food, this place is great and I definitely recommend the french toast for anyone who goes!
I'm on a hunt for new brunch spots, so I've been hitting Taylor St. quite a bit. Â This is not a spot I'll be revisting. Â It needs an overhaul, which I guess shouldn't really matter, but there's something unsettling about eating in a place that looks so unorganized. Â
Food:  Meh.  If I was looking to get a quick breakfast sandwich on the go, I might stop by.  If I'm looking to sit with my mom and have our standard Sunday  brunch, I'm not doing this.  Mom wasn't terribly hungry, so she was fine with her egg, cheese, ham and tomato on a bagel for less than $5.  I, on the other hand, was ready to gnaw my arm off, and was underwhelmed by my bacon frittata.  Edible?  Sure.  Something I could have made at home??  YEP.  That defeats the purpose of me going to brunch.  I will agree with other reviewers that the coffee is pretty good.
Service: Â Meh. Â Not terrible, but nothing to write home about. Â Also defeats the purpose of me not cooking something at home. Â
Interesting note about the service - I'm pretty sure Joan M. (review below me) was my server this morning. Â Thanks for playing, Joan M. Â I'm going to disagree about things being made from scratch, *especially* the potatoes.
Well, I will keep this short and sweet. The place is nice and trendy, but the service is HORRIBLE.
Do not understand how when there are only 2 other tables in the restaurant with guest sitting at them and we were not approached by the server to ask for our order until after being there for 10 minutes. Then, after she took our order she went to go make our coffees, I am guessing, but then got side tracked by a gentleman who came in ordering an iced whatever. She begins to make his Iced thing a ma jig and totally forgets about our order. Another server came by and asked had someone taken our order. I told her yes and she went over to the other girl and you could see the other girl  make a face like she totally forgot what we asked for. She came by our table after remembering the appetizer and asked again what else had we asked for.
By this time we had been in the restaurant for over 20 minutes and basically no one else in the place. We said not to worry about it. Ate our appetizer, paid and left.
With the staff they have, amazing they are able to keep people coming in. Probably only because the other GOOD places are packed.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN!!!
My friend and I were tired of the food at UIC so we decided to go and try Demitasse, since it's close and we've always been curious about it. It's tucked away on taylor street in the mists of Al's beef and Mario's Italian Ice. Many people pass by it, not giving it a second look because it's never as full as any of the other places on Taylor street.
We ordered food (which you can see in pictures that will be posted soon.
Snicker latte, was ok, I would rather go to starbucks, but it's ok
The grilled chicken sandwich was really good. It comes with chips on the side, provolone, chicken, pesto, and bacon. This sandwich I will come back for because it was pretty good!
Overall, the staff is friendly, the place is clean but not full, and the food was ok. Hence the 3 stars
Baaad service, okay food, coffee is good 3 out of 5 times. I keep going back because it's close and not as crowded as other places on Taylor St., but todays experience was the worst. Servers are not friendly and have poop face expressions. They take forever to come to the table, mess up simple orders, and don't refill coffee frequently. It's not cheap either so I'm expecting better service. This place would do a lot better with better service.
Today it took well over 15 minutes to get a server and that was only after I went to the counter and asked for one. She seemed easily confused and glazed over. Â The place was crowded by their standards but not by Sunday brunch standards. It was all around bad service and food is mediocre, but how creative can you get with eggs and bacon anyway. Â I don't think I'll go back.
I've gone on a few occasions. The staff is friendly and I haven't had to wait long before orders are taken and fresh coffee was quickly brought over and i didn't even have to ask for cream; they were also willing to do separate checks. The parfait was delicious and I got a taste of what everyone ordered. From breakfast burritos to oatmeal to their breakfast specials everything was pretty good.
However, somehow i'm left without a feeling of excitement and a wanting to go back (hence the 3 stars). Was it the empty feeling of the place? The mostly bare walls? The usual breakfast/brunch menu found everywhere else? Who knows... I feel like I need to come when its full (if the do have a rush period) and see if there is a different feel to it.
Despite its small size, this place knows how to rock breakfast!
Don't be fooled if this place isn't packed. It is down the street from a few well known breakfast joints, but I think Demitasse is great.
It may take a while to order your food or it can be very quick. It depends on staff. I've dealt with both before and sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and be patient. They do have coffee drinks that they make with care, usually the owner is around to talk to, really nice guy.
Frittatas are pretty good (Open-face omelet served with house potatoes)
At first it doesn't seem like a lot of food, then when you start, your belly fills.
I am not a fan of their french toast with sweet cream and strawberries. It is a bit too tart for me (diabetic) and there is a lot of cream they put in between the toast.
If you are looking for somewhere with a seat and cheap, give this place a try. In the winter, this place is great to get warm drinks at.
I'm not a particularly awkward person, but the servers here brought out the awkward in me. Â I walked in here on a Friday afternoon around 2:40 pm, 20 minutes before closing, seeking an iced coffee and a baked good.
After my eyes adjusted to the change in light, I noticed that both of the servers were standing completely still and looking at me like "uhh.." Â
Me: Â Are you open?
Girl: Uh, we close in 20 minutes.
Me: So... can I order something?
Girl: Uh, I don't know... we're closing in 20 minutes.
[Pause as I glance around awkwardly and she is still staring at me like "uhh." The guy behind the counter runs to the back to hide, or at least that's what it seemed like.]
Me: Okay, so is that a no?
Girl: Uh, no, I don't know, I'm not sure.
Me: Um.. I want an iced coffee. Should I go somewhere else or not?
Girl: Oh, well yea, I guess that's fine. You can order that.
I don't know if I am brave enough to go back in there and face the extreme awkwardness. Â The iced coffee was pretty good. Â There were very few baked goods available, and the chocolate cookie I got seemed like it might have once been pretty good, two to three days ago, when it was baked. Â It's right by my house so I want to like it. Â I want to be able to go every Saturday! But I won't. Â I might not go back, ever.
If I do ever gather enough courage and confidence to walk in there some other time and try one of the more substantial items on the menu, I will surely update my review. Â
As for now I give stars as follows:
Service: 0
Drinks: 3
Food: 1
The average of the three scores coming to 1.33333 but I'll round up to 2 for the sake of the iced coffee.
When I walked in on a Saturday and noticed that only a few tables were occupied I immediately wondered "why aren't there more people here?" It's a good question to ask because I know if I head to nearby Meli or Sweet Maple that there definitely would have been lines. So why not Demitasse?
The restaurant itself is nice enough. Is it charming? No not particularly. It's nice enough and there are a bunch of tables and booths which is nice. The staff is friendly and there are a good amount of options on the menu ranging from traditional egg dishes to sweet pancakes and french toast.
So what is it about this place that makes it OK, but nothing particularly special? Well, the food is just OK. I enjoyed my breakfast, a frittata with cheddar, zucchini, onion and tomato, but really if you're putting zucchini as an ingredient why only shred it over the top? Coffee was fine but nothing spectacular either. For my entree, coffee, tax and tip I walked out of there spending $15 and again while it was all OK, I wished that I'd had something with a little bit more pazzaz for that price.
Hmmm, loved the nostalgia of this place. Â But really, its nothing to brag about. Â Makes me wanna yawn a bit. Â The food was extremely bland. Â We decided to hit this place up after going to SMC and realizing that they were closed for some odd reason. Â It was truly heart breaking. Â So we decided to venture out of the norm and try our hand at Demitasse. Â Hmmm, I could have made better breakfast at home. Â
Its not too hard to make eggs just right or make sure the food is served fresh. Â If you consider yourself a breakfast foodie, stay clear. Â You will be disappointed. Â I was heartbroken after leaving. Â I ate at a place that left no memorable references of having a good meal. Â
Try harder next time.
Surprised this place has such low reviews. Â I went there for the first time yesterday for lunch with a friend, and I was really really excited to find a place like this so close to UIC. Â I got the vegetarian panini after much debate (everything looked delicious! they've got waffles, french toast, burritos, chili, etc.) with fries, and I really enjoyed my meal. Â Afterward, I got a caramel/chocolate latte and it was sooo good. Seriously. Â
However, the service was total crap.
I love this restaurant. Â I like to go early, so I have the place to myself, but I've been there at later times, when they're quite busy, and enjoyed myself. Â They roast their coffee beans, which I just love. Â Their menu is simple and good. Â One of the many things I love about this restaurant is that they don't overserve. Â Over time, I've had almost everything on the menu, and find everything delicious.
I love the fact they showcase artists works in this restaurant, some of which are available for sale. Â And, while I've had both good service, and not so good service, I find that many of their employees are very young who are just starting out, and will learn with time, how to be good servers.
"Meh" indeed. Â Lackluster service, decent food, poor coffee (and it's a coffee place!), overpriced.
My girlfriend likes their bacon-egg-cheese-croissant thing to go, and I think that's the best part of it. Â Had breakfast there today and had a worse than normal experience: the staff didn't notice we had come in until they served the two tables after us (over 10 minutes), no refills on drinks (coffee and water), another table's food at first, still no refills, dishes didn't get taken off of the table... yeah. Â The guy at the counter, who said he was the manager, was apologetic and took a couple of bucks off of our $23 ticket.
We keep coming back because the lines are insane at Sweet Maple Cafe, and we keep hoping it will be better. Â This probably isn't helping convince them they should do better! Â Oh well.
Went for lunch and it was not crowded. Â One waitress was on top of things, but then a shy, incompetent girl took over. Â Hot day and she never came back by to see if everything was okay or refills were needed. Â We were brought 2 other tables food. Lucky for them we were more honest than hungry.
I ordered the Capreses panini and it was good. Â One of my companions order the hummus and it was not so good. Â It was in the shape of an ice cream scoop and very cold. Â So cold, in fact, that it would break the chips served with it. Â Â
In short, some of the food was good, but enough was bad that I would not return.
"Sorry, we don't have any more turkey."
"Sorry, we don't have any more pasta."
That is not what I want to hear when taking my wife and kids here for a nice little lunch, and that's exactly what happened.
I ordered my kids a club sandwich, but they were out of turkey, so they substituted it with chicken. When we got this croissant club sandwich, the slices of ham, chicken, and even the cheddar were just too much even for me to handle.
I got the chicken wrap. What a let-down. Too much cheddar, and not enough chicken. The tortilla chips that they gave on the side were stale. Yuck.
My wife ordered some kind of strawberry/banana waffle, which was delicious, but there were no bananas to be found.
Maybe we should have gone for just the breakfast, because the lunch items were a big disappointment. At least the waitress was nice. She even took a few dollars off my bill for the stale chips.
I'm on the fence on whether I want to try the breakfast. One thing's for sure... no more lunch for me here.
I was very disappointed with " demitasse" we went there for brunch with our kids and the food was nothing special. They were out of turkey meat for their club sandwhich and pasta for their pasta dishes, and their food was not that great.
I did like the service and I did like their latte although I thought i had ordered an ice latte and i got a hot one intead, and I ordered a Belgam waffle with strawberries and bananas and I got the strawberries just no bananas. Â I wouldn't go back to this brunch place very disappointing.
After taking some ladies to a healthy Italian beef across the street, I figured I would find a place to waste some time and wash my hands.
Very tasty coffees, cool interior. I really like this section of Taylor. Its a shame that most people I know don't even know about this neighborhood. Well, I guess that not shameful--it was easy to park.
Scene: 9:15 AM, Friday morning on my day off. Â I'm sound asleep.
I heard pounding on the back door of my apartment; this is interesting because very few people even know we have a back door and even fewer can figure out how to get there without someone holding their hand. Â Thinking it's a friend of the idiots who live behind us knocking on the wrong door (it's happened before) I roll over and go back to sleep. Â Pounding continues but then subsides, but not before my cell phone rings. Â
It's my dad. Â Giving no explanation as to why he's there, he yells at me to throw on some clothes and go to breakfast with him. Â Still rubbing my eyes and adjusting to daylight, I simply ask "what the fuck?" Â Still no explanation, except that I have two minutes before he leaves without me. Â Ok, I guess.
Since moving real close I'd been meaning to give Demitasse a shot so after throwing on some boots and a coat we mosey over. Â We're seated right away in a cozy, nice dining area with pretty cool artwork on the walls. Â I like what I'm seeing and smelling. Â
I order something that amounts to an open face omelet with two cheeses, sausage and ham. Â The waitress looks at me funny but writes it down. Â My dad gets probably the biggest fucking pancake I've ever seen. Â We eat; it's damn good. Â I drink some orange juice and continue to press why exactly my dad was there. Â Get a mumbled response. Â Whatever. Â I'm finally fully awake and don't really care any more. Â
Food was really good but it was expensive. Â Glad I didn't pay for it. Â Will head back in if I'm trying to impress someone but probably not too often of my own volition.
I've taken all my guests here for brunch and I told them if I had more money, I'd be a regular here.
Some of the items can be a bit expensive. Â I think it was near $10 for my stuffed french toast, but it was real good. Â So much fruit and whipped cram. Â My sister got the the Egg White frittata with onions and asparagus. Â It was very flavorful and a much healthier option compared to my french toast.
The cheaper items are good, too. Â I had a breakfast sandwich on a croissant and it was flaky/cheesy/scrumptious.
One downside was the home fries were really skimping on portions. Â For $2.25, we really got a dollar's worth.
To the drinks: I've had the iced chai and I got so much for not so much money. Â Real tasty. Â Better than Starbucks and that's saying a lot.
The service sometimes lacks, but there's not so many employees. Â The girls there work their asses off, though.
Overall, it's a nice place to enjoy a nice brunch. Â If you want a quicker meal, go on the weekdays.
1 star is more than enough, if even that.
Attempted to eat brunch there earlier today however after 40 minutes of waiting for food we left. There was ample staff working; 1 man behind the bar, 2 waitress and 2 men in the kitchen. Not sure why our food took so long because everyone else's food seemed to be coming out of the kitchen except for ours. The topper of it all was when my date inquired about our order to the gentleman behind the bar. We got a very rude and insulting response from him. I was very disappointed because walking in the restaurant I thought it would be a pleasant experience.
2 stars for good coffee and ok service. Cute place too, sort of like your neighborghood diner, but cooler and cleaner.
My mom ordered the waffle with fresh strawberries and a side of bacon, my aunt ordered french toast, and I had a veggie frittata. HUGE dissappointment... And since I suggested to try this place, I was to blame... Â (and pay)
My mom hated the waffle. She's spoiled by the golden deliciousness at The Original Pancake House so this was a hundred steps down from what she's used to. The waffle was limp and soggy. She (being the knower of all waffles) said that waffles were suppose to be a little crispy and the one she had was like pancakes. And she had all of 3 or 4 strawberries... greedy? yes. The bacon was a joke. I know bacon isn't the leanest thing in the world, but it sure as hell shouldn't make you spit out grease. ughhh. How could you ruin bacon?? My aunts french toast wasn't too bad. They should really consider using less cinnamon or nutmeg or both... Someone said something about portions being big... I thought my fritata was a rip off. It was so boring... The potatoes I got were the frozen variety... Little perfectly cut cubes of fried potato. the best thing I had was my wheat toast.
Delicious coffee (at $2.75 for an iced coffee, it better be good!) and food also. Veggie-friendly. Went here for lunch on a weekday during prime lunch hour (or so I thought, at 12:30), and it was relatively empty, which meant good service and quick food preparation. Everything seemed a tad over priced, which is my only major complaint. I got a sandwich with fruit instead of chips, and an iced coffee, and it was $13-some! I'm assuming the fruit substitution upped the price, but THAT much?? Still, liked the chill atmosphere (not the hectic lunch crowd feel) and good food/coffee.
Review Source:bad news first:
-slow service
-kind of pricey
-hungover-college-boy-hostile hours (closed at 2.30 pm)
-run on an academic-year schedule - this place closes on UIC breaks.
the pros:
-large portions
-delicious coffee
-FUCKING DELICIOUS
-my girlfriend lives next door and has befriended most of the waitstaff, resulting in dramatically improved service.
overall, i can't really justify the prices and the slow service unless i'm with my girlfriend. Â a pity, because their stuffed french toast is so damn good....
I was a regular here every weekend for about two years... It was close by, but the food was OK, the service mediocre, and the prices were a little high for the quality of food, but not outrageous. However, they raised prices again on the menu, and now my blueberry pancakes cost way too much for what I get, the service has not improved any, etc.
If you're really hungry for some breakfast/coffee and don't have any other options, it's good. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
Whenever I'm in this area, past memories of the friendly waitresses serving that made by Demitasse's chefs and baristas draw me inside unrushed. Â
As Edith explained in her review, upon entering, the surroundings envelope its patron with an old school diner experience. Â But on closer inspection, its surroundings promise more than a diner offers, with oil-on-canvas made original by the artist, waiting patiently for its audience and for sale around the perimeter. Â The oils are replaced with fresh ideas haltingly if not periodically.
The menu and extensive list of hot beverages, which may humble the selection at Starbucks, keep the art viewer inside. Â I can only vouch for breakfast; a super-fresh croissant stuffed with egg, apple-smoked Bacon and Cheddar is one of my staples; though their frittatas made to order are just as tempting.
I've spent many a hungover morning here.
many a cognizant morning too
Their stuffed french toast is my favorite, and if you get a full portion it's perfect for sharing, as it comes with two massive pieces.
hmmm pieces seems like the wrong word..perhaps complexes is better. yeah. two complexes of french toast-like substance. They are topped with strawberries, bananas, whipped cream, and two kinds of sauce  (just enough to not be overwhelming).
The waffles topped with fruit are a lighter option, but good as well.
ham/cheddar/tomato croissant is also a good bet.
BUT
for the love of god stay away from the panini's. Â strangely textured red bell pepper sauce and oddly greasy. just avoid them. side portions of ham can also turn out to be randomly skimpy. you just never know.
Another thing I've noticed is that the quality has gone down ever since a friend of mine stopped cooking for them. It's still good, I've just known it to be better. I also miss the chess set they used to have, but it was made out of glass so maybe it broke.
it's one of the only breakfast options in the area, and can be especially useful if you're looking to avoid the Sweet Maple line.
--------------------------------------------------Â--------------------------------
Edit: had to change rating after Meli arrived. go there instead.
This is absolutely my favorite cafe in the city. Â Half diner, half trendy coffee house with the best amaretto pancakes ever. The coffee and the espresso drinks are excellent and they don't mind if you spread out and study for a couple hours. There is always bad local art on the walls and the waitresses all look like chicago versions of Amelie. Fantastic!
