Came here with a group of friends for their Taco Tuesday deal ($5 for ayce tacos) not realizing that it was actually a bar. (oops)
So you get a drink and you pay $5 for ayce tacos with choices of chicken, asada, pastor, fish and carnitas. You can pay $1 extra for shrimp too.
I thought it was pretty cool that you can put your own toppings on your tacos (don't be fooled by those gross pictures they have up on yelp!)
Overall- food quality is meh. (But what were you expecting for $5?)
The place is dingy and kind of dirty (it is a bar after all!). They had drink specials too- $5 margaritas, $4 shots of tequila and $4 beers or something close to that anyways. Limited seating - though we were able to snag a table! And some girls were walking around giving sample shots of milagro.
The crowd was a little older (probably in their 30's) with a handful of people that looked like they might be in their 20's. Not sure that I'd go here to drink though I wouldn't mind coming again (with a group of friends) for tacos and drinks some other tuesday!
It was my first time coming here. A girlfriend and I came to grab a drink. Not even 10
minutes later the bouncer grabbed the drink out of my hand causing it to spill all over
my white shirt. He said I've been cut off & he's seen me at the bar at least 5 times.
(Again, only there for 10 minutes) The place was empty & so there is no way he could
of confused me with someone else. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he
was the manager. As I'm walking out the door I see security and the bartender taking
shots at the small bar by the smoking section. Maybe someone else needed to be cut
off. Leaving I saw a police officer parked next to my car on the side of the bar and told
him what happen. He wrote up a police report for me incase I want to press charges.
He also said this bars known for people getting wasted off cheap drinks and the bar
letting them drive.
I really liked this place! Â I gave it 3 stars because I only had beer. Â But it was Corona--and it was only $4! Â That ranks high in my book. Â Most places in my Mesa-Newport area charge $6 for a Corona. Â And they have live music. Â My friend's band played there (I might be a little biased) but it's a great set-up to see live music. And there was no cover charge! Â Parking is across the street in the public lot, so there is plenty of space, although it might suck if it's raining! Â If you are into cheap beer and great bands, check it out!
Review Source:Typically, I'm here mostly for Taco Tuesday with friends and the occasional Friday or Saturday night.
The food here is good. Hearty portions with excellent tastes. The all-you-can-eat tacos on Taco Tuesday are well worth the $5 after purchasing a drink. My personal favorite are the al pastor. They're juicy and very flavorful.
The drinks are usually made to order and border on the strong side.
The music is eclectic in the sense that it's all over the place. One second, they'll be playing rock, the next, it'll be hip hop. And that's just the DJ on the weekends.
A good place to go with friends. Just get there before 7 on thursday through Saturday because the place fills up quickly.
Dude, what's been going on with the music?
I'm tired of the 80's garden-variety filler music. It's Friday night at 12:30 PM and the DJ is playing Tina Turner? Come on, look at your demographics. We want Top 40, pop, hip-hop, and EDM!
I actually had a chance to chat with the DJ about this issue. He said that The District requires him to play this music for a certain portion of the night. Might want to reconsider this decision?
I don't see myself returning too often if this trend continues. I'll probably start frequenting Proof Bar and The Crosby (Santa Ana) more often.
My first visit to the District Lounge was shortly after karaoke was introduced there on Wednesday night. It is a moderately furnished establishment offering dual pool tables, Â a fully stocked bar, and friendly staff. It's a great location for karaoke, and even provides a stage to heighten karaoke pleasure, as well as great prices on drinks. The only negative thing I can say is that I wish there were better seating options. All in all though, it's great fun on a Wednesday night. The rare union of Kevin Karaoke and Bobby Vegas providing the karaoke is a great treat and should not be missed.
Review Source:I was leaning towards A-OK but moved it up to 4-star Yay! I'm a fan. Â I've been here once for a friend's birthday and then a few other times for karaoke. Â The night I went for a birthday celebration it was super packed. Â There aren't many sitting areas and loungey dark... I guess for the lounge type feel I was expecting a place to lounge for a little bit while waiting for the music to get going. Â So for that night, it'll be 3-stars.
I've recently been coming for Wednesday night karaoke. Â The set up is different in that the stage is way in the corner and the seating is way over on the other half of the bar. Â So back of the restaurant/lounge has the pool tables, karaoke stage and restrooms and the seating is just before the threshold of that area.
Bobby Vegas Entertainment does the karaoke and they're great! Â The song selection is boss, sound and props are fun and engaging! Â Karaoke would be just so much better if there were little cocktail tables for sitting closer to the stage, you know? Â It's so far! Â I've seen karaoke-patrons actually sitting on a side table near the restroom just be near the stage. Â Hubs and I sat at the tables but as more karaoke singers came in we noticed that not too many were interested sitting that far back. Â I don't blame them. Â The first time we came here for karaoke we stood at the cocktail table nearest the stage. Â
I definitely like this place even more because of the karaoke. Â I think it may help keep singers/patrons in for longer if they added some bar stools in the pool table area. Â Fun karaoke hosts! Â Fun karaoke sound! Â Cool food and drink specials!
By far one of the biggest locations for douchebags in Orange County. You'd be surprised how many douches can be jammed into one building. Don't get in the way of any of the roided up bouncers or you will get kicked out faster than you can buy a 8$ drink.Other than that and battling people for position in line at the bar, this place wasn't that bad.

The bartenders here have a lot of energy and a vast culmination of experience. There's a DJ on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday with NO cover, late Night Hot Dogs, And TACO TUESDAY RoCkS... $5 All you can eat tacos when you spend $3 on a cocktail from 4-11pm. Review Source:Sunday afternoon. The husband and I got a little peckish after the morning football games, so we decided to catch the afternoon games at a bar/restaurant. People kept telling us to go here. Well, I always put a lot of weight on the advice of good friends, so we go. It is 3pm, and all the bartenders and servers are in football jerseys and different games are playing on the tvs.
As soon as we sit down, the bartender comes out and is really friendly. Then proceeds to tell us that the kitchen is closed......bleh, really? wow. fail. epically.
The architecture of this building and the bar is amazing (if you like that sort of thing, which I do. Hence the 2 stars)
The bar, atmosphere and service were great, I'm just super bummed out that no one told me that my card would be pre-authorized for $25 when I opened a tab. Â If I would have known that I wouldn't have opened a tab. Â Moral of the story, go there and have fun (because you will), just know that if you plan on leaving your card at the bar, it will be charged an additional $25.
UPDATE: Â I have called the bar 3 times to try to get my situation taken care of. Â The first time I called (a Tuesday afternoon) I was informed that there was no manager on duty, and that he would be in that night at 8pm. Â Should have been the first red flag, but okay. Â So I called that night around 11 when I got off work and asked for a manager. Â A polite guy named Asher answered the phone and told me that the manager had "just walked out the door". Â He took down my name and number and said he would try to get a hold of the manager. Â No one ever called me back. Â So I called again this afternoon and a girl Bethany answered the phone. Â Super rude to start off with. Â Obviously pissed she got stuck with the afternoon shift on a wednesday. Â Anyways, I asked to speak with a manager, and she told me there was no manager there, and that "he only comes in on Thursday nights". Â After I told her that this was the third time I was calling and just wanted to speak with someone of authority, she said "theres no one here, I'm not lying." Â Okay, so you're telling me a full bar in a busy part of town only has a manager on duty one night a week for 3 hours at a time? Â I've been working in the bar industry for 8 years, and I find it extremely hard to believe that no one on the premises can help me with my problem. Â It's such a bummer, because I had such a great time when I was there. Â I just wish I could get someone on the phone who actually gave two sh*ts about keeping my business.
I didn't know there were such fun places in the Orange Circle. It's such a sleep little town, The District Lounge is definitely unexpected. And you know it's one of a few places because the cops have time to sit outside during closing time.
It's a cute bar with cheap drinks and a sufficient amount of seating. Most people are standing around talking or dancing anyways, so they don't need a lot of seating.
There are a couple of totally hot guys that work there. I could have spent all night sitting at the bar watching Mr. McHotty washing glassware. Y.U.M.
It's a mixed bag of people who come here. Girls in slutty dresses and stilettos to hipsters with flats and glasses. You have douchebag frat guys and clean cut guys in slacks and button down shirts. It's a trip to sit there and watch who will come in next.
I'd totally come back for people watching alone.
The dance floor is where the pool tables usually are. They have a cool retro photo booth that's fun to do. Once the party gets started on the dance floor, it is impossible to move or walk through or not hit someone. You have your run of the mill creeper who tries to dance with you and thinks its sexy to rub their little hard on all over you. GROSS. If you dance that close to me, how are you going to see my stellar dance moves? By the way, continually repeating that I'm beautiful will not get you a make-out session on the dance floor. I'm a classier girl than that.
One thing - make sure you check which DJ is going to be there, because whoever was playing last Saturday was THE WORST DJ EVER! I think the real deejay couldn't make it, so he asked his friend to fill in for him. His friend who loves 80's music and doesn't have a set list long enough so he just starts replaying things that he thinks are crowd favorites. He didn't know how to transition between songs, so we were all left standing around for a bit until the tempo picked back up again. Also, the tempo shouldn't ever drop to be so slow after such a pumped up song that people want to walk away and boo you. A five year old child could have done a better job than this guy. Or, why not just plug in someone's iPod?
The first review got 5 stars because of the exceptional service I got.
This second review is based more on the fact that any great place will offer great things EVERY night. Â
I went over on a weekday night, and the place was empty....at 11:30pm!! Sure there was competition with the bar next door, but no excuses!! Any bar should be able to offer something that will keep it's customers. Â
Tuesdays they offer all you can eat tacos until the Kitchen crew closes at 10pm...I think! Â That's cool. Â And the Fridays and Saturdays here you will definitely find at least a DJ.
I still like this place. Â I just want it to be a cool place every night, if it's gonna get 5 stars from me!
Taco Tuesday!! $5 for all you can eat street tacos. Carne asada, al pastor, carnitas, shrimp, fish, and chicken + chips and a yummy salsa bar (including cheese). Get there early if you want to eat the shrimp or fish tacos. They do run out. Another reason to get there early...the seating is tough to find.
Ambience is cool. People come in work attire or just casual.
Just know, that during this heat wave thing we are having here in the OC, it's actually hotter inside this place than outside. Massively humid. Wear light clothing. haha
My review is a 9PM and later:
Don't buy the drinks they have posted unless you want virtually no alcohol in your drinks. Â Even drinks that I knew contained virtually all alcohol they made sure to put as much mixer portion in there as they could. Â Glasses are small, lots of ice, and bartenders that don't really deserve a tip.
This place is easily forgettable as nothing about it stands out besides the lack of alcohol in your drink.
The one plus is that this place is located within walking distance of other things. Â So if you end up not being able to get in anywhere, or don't want to drive/taxi home just yet you'll have this place.
Sunday afternoons here are very chill. Â Only 4-5 people at the bar. Â And then, because I had invited them, 50 of my closest friends showed up. Â
And you know what? Â The well dressed bartender in fedora, vest, and necktie, didn't bat an eye. Â "More tips for me", he said, and proceeded, in rapid fashion, to make sure everyone was taken care of, at reasonable prices, with the quickness. Â
I'm impressed. Â Been here before for the tater tots and the taco specials. Â Food is okay for a dive(ish) bar. Â Pool tables are great and the setting is sort of Sinatra/Elvis 50ish Vegas, a bit. Â
But the casual vibe and the great service - definitely worth coming back for. Â Deducted a star for the dirty bathrooms and floor. Â But as I mentioned - it's one step above a dive bar. Â So lower your expectations and prepare for a great experience in the Orange Circle area.
I like this place because the drinks are cheap and stiff and the service is good. Although, I'm a little older than the college scene so on Thursdays (which is typically College Night everywhere) I sometimes feel a little out of place.
I've never eaten here before so I can't rate the food. Probably because by the time I get there, dinner is over. The decor is very basic so if you're used to those trendy bars this will be a let down for you. However, if none of that matters to you this is the place!
I have been pleasantly surprised by my old hang out!
My friends and I used to come here EVERY weekend to dance but stopped going because about 2 years ago it became too crowded, bathroom wait was always at least 15-20min, the bar was incredibly difficult to access and it was always the same music set.
Well, last night we go nostalgic and decided to go there for a night of dancing. WOW! They have changed for the better. DJ Lucky lou is always progressive and he was amazing! New music, new style and new crowd! Everyone there was all about the music, there was enough room to dance comfortably but it was still full, drinks were easy to get and the bathroom line was consistently short.
I must say, I'll be coming back more often :)
The District lounge has weeded out the negative crowd and I'm diggin it.
This review is strictly based off of my experiences  here on Taco Tuesdays because that's the only day I've been here.
Seriously, the best deal ever. $5 for all you can eat tacos (chicken, carne asada, fish, shrimp, carnitas, and al pastor) and a $3 beer. Not only are the tacos seriously bomb, but their fresh, thick, crunchy tortillas chips are seriously among the best I've ever had. I honestly get sad when I start to feel full after my third taco and usually force another 3 down because they're really that good.
Only complaint is the seriously limited seating, especially if you head there around 7 ish. The earlier you go, the better, but for these tacos, I really don't mind standing in the back by the pool tables to scarf these babies down.
Came here with my girls after dinner at Haven Gastropub. I didn't expect much action since it was a Monday night. There were basically a lot of dive bar types, and I guess they didn't care for a group of Asian girls hanging out in their bar.
A guy ID'd us as soon as we walked in. We saw an open booth and sat down. We were there for 20 minutes and no server approached us. I guess you have to order drinks at the bar? Idk, no one told us!
We just decided to leave. My friend says it's better on the weekends when they have a DJ. So we will see then, but not really my cup of tea.
I've been here three times in the last year, after the first it was only because my friends draged me there, under protest. I really do like the way the place looks but Holy cow the staff and there attidudes are inconceivable. Each time it was bad but this last time I was eating at the bar with my friend on taco tusday and three of the waitresses ( who were back and forth throughout the two hrs i was there) were consistently bashing on customer after customer. Every thing from, the way were dressed badly to the way they smelled, and they had no care to the vulgarity of how they said it....Keep in mind these girls knew there were customers right in front of them during all the other customer bashing. Â These ppl really don't care about their customer service.
Its really too bad, with better management the place has potential.
Avoid this place at all costs! Bartenders are BEYOND RUDE! I've been here twice and different bartenders were so unprofessional. What's with the hiring here?
First time I went, my friend went to close his tab and his ID wasn't in there. We looked all over the floor and table. Nothing. He politely asked if she could look and she responded in a rude manner and said she wouldn't look. She also argued to wait his turn and that she swears she put it in the booklet. Next day, he calls and big surprise! It's there!
Second time I went and there was probably less than 10 people there. The bartender asked us what we wanted and I said I didn't know yet (debating on drinking beer or liquor) and she said, "just tell me now so I don't have to come back". Dumb b**tch! This place needs new employees. Seriously, don't waste your time here.
I have nothing against dive bars. Some are pretty cool. This one however just has obnoxious drunk chicks singing off key and pestering everyone to join in their drunken banshee screaming. Sorry woman but no I will not sing kumbaya with you.
"If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all."
Ok my review is done.
Conversations at The District Lounge:
A couple walks into District Lounge late on a Thursday night. Â They are obviously still getting to know each other and this is the second stop on their date.
Girl: (looking around) "Wow, this place is pretty packed for a Thursday. Good call."
Guy: (pleased) "Yeah, I thought it'd be a good idea. Â I mean, the music is pretty good and the drinks are strong."
Girl: "The crowd isn't too stereotypical either."
Guy: (seeming confused) "Stereotypical?"
Girl: (excited to unleash her snarky wit and impress her date) "You know, the whole 'OC' thing. Â Bro hos, lifted trucks, affliction. Â That kind of stereotypical. Â I mean, there are some colorful people in this place, but nothing too cliche."
Guy: (chuckles) "Wow, you are totally gonna make fun of Orange County every time, aren't you? Â What 'colorful people'?"
Girl: (discretely pointing to someone across the dance floor with her chin) "See that guy over there. Â He's Asian, right? Â Cool. Â But he's also a Ginger. Â I mean, you don't see an Asian Ginger everyday. Â That's pretty fucking crazy. Â (she switches her focus) And see that group of girls to our right that are obviously having a ladies night?"
Guy: (amused and wanting to see where she's going with this) "Wow, yeah."
Girl: (getting into her comfort zone) "He's totally stalking them and gonna try to pounce on those ladies like the red-headed tiger he is."
Guy: (goes into a full belly laugh) "Wow, you pay attention don't you."
Girl: (smirks) "Yup." (something catches her attention) "Holy shit! Â He's totally doing it! Â Oh my God. Â He's the worst dancer...he thinks he's such a pimp."
Guy: (astonished) "You're right! Oh wow, he's, like, dry humping the space between them."
Girl: (laughing) "If by dry humping you mean 'having a seizure and trying to make it look sexy' then, yeah. Â Look at him go!"
Guy: "HA! Â Hilarious! Â How about we get some drinks?"
Girl: (flirting) "Vodka Tonic with a twist."
Guy: "Done."
Time passes, the music gets better, the two are drinking and chatting, obviously having a good time and watching the crowd. Â
Guy: "You want another drink?"
Girl: "Sure, these are really good. Â You know they also have some pretty good food here. I tried some last time I was here. Â (A new song comes on and the girl is obviously a fan) Oh wait! This is my jam! Â Do you dance?"
Guy: "Nah, I just have a seizure and try to make it look sexy."
Girl: (giggles) "Perfect."
They dance. Â The dance floor is crowded, but not so much that either of them is uncomfortable. Â Everyone is having a great time, including the Asian Ginger who has begun to dance by himself. Â
The guy notices a picture booth across the floor and motions to the girl if she'd like to give it a try. Â She nods enthusiastically and they go in, take pictures, and continue talking while they wait. Â
Once the pictures are ready, they happily leave the bar, and walk back to the car, talking, laughing and smiling.
"District Dive" is what it should be called.
Drinks lack sophistication.
The bar lacks A.C.
The crowd lacks decent looking people
But somehow, we managed to have a decent time.  It's not my first choice to throw a birthday, but it was my friend's apparently.  I normally don't care about the crowd, but I have some newly single male friends =)  I appreciated that they played old school hip hop, and some more 80's hits, but man...even I could do a better job mixing with my tape cassette player.  But yeah, It makes it an okay place to dance and catch up with your friends without go-go dancers' booties in between you.  But on that note, I think there are such things as contemporary bars/lounges without the snobbish attitude that comes with it.  In other words, would it hurt you to amp up the décor and AC a little?
One of the better bars in the area
Definitely expect college kids from chapman
Great drink specials
Occasional guest DJs spinning live
Hmm... I really like this Quick-Review feature on the iPhone Yelp APP V2.0... but umm.. that's another story.
Will need to try the food next time. Â - Re-review will definitely be in the works.
I think it's about bloody time I reviewed the District Lounge. The first time I came here I had a great time although I wasn't too thrilled about the YOCHH's change to this particular location. I mean the space is much larger, but it seemed a bit divey to me. The bathrooms on that fateful night were totally gross so I made a mental note to myself that next time, maybe don't visit the bathroom at all. What I like about this place is that if you are the DD, and you're drinking sodas, you pay a buck and get free refills all night long. Proof never did that. They would make you pay for every dinky soda you asked for and it was small too.
I think you'll like the District a lot better if you were hungry because their food is really not bad at all. I ordered 2 tacos and honestly, the meat (one steak and one chicken) were both seasoned well -- maybe a tad salty -- but had a good kick to it. I enjoyed them thoroughly. On top of that the gal who was serving me was super friendly and helpful which I thought deserved an extra star in itself, but I can't say "yay, I'm a fan" so I'm going to stick to "A-OK".
And no, I didn't visit the bathroom this time -- I remembered!
What's to love about the district lounge??
-No cover
-Parking is a breeze (and I always seem to find parking right in front)
-$6 vodka and cranberry (and let it be known that it's not the cheap no-name vodka) $6 Crown and cokes--damn that's a deal!
-tables and booths if you wanna chill
-dance floor if you wanna shake that ass
-a photo booth to document all the drunken debauchery
-clean bathrooms even at 1am
-before 10pm they usually have some NBA or NFL game playing
-after 10pm, THE best DJ on this side of the OC--he plays all the jams
It's a good thing that other place got a little to crowded and YOCHH is now at the District Lounge or else I would've never found my new favorite bar. Â Yes the place is full of Chapman college students that make me feel old and wish I was back in college, but what-eves that won't stop me from coming here. Â The vibe here is very laid back and no one is pretentious. Â The bartenders are quick and they make pretty stiff drinks. Â I heard the food is also pretty good and they have a cool live band on Friday nights--I will have to check this out very soon.
I came here for the first time for another YOCHH and it was fun! The place is not huge but it was decent in size for the partying/drinking that was in store. I loved that they had decent seating. Booths and stools. Those always come in handy. The drinks were wonderfully priced thanks to their Happy Hour. I think for it a beer and a Tokyo Tea it came to like $8 or $10? I had two Tokyo Teas and they were strong enough to make me happy... :)
The DJ there that night was awesome! I danced a lot. A lot of it had to do with the Tokyo Teas but even though... the music is a big factor. I don't if that's the same DJ every time, but hey I'm not complaining :)
I also loved that there's a parking lot right across the street. Very useful but also kind of scary walking back there alone... so Thanks Dave G. for walking me! :) The bouncers were also nice. They let me in and out like nothing. I had to keep going outside because it got super hot in there, especially when people started packing it in.
Thank you Dave S. for another wonderful YOCHH :) Fun times with wonderful people
Oh? That drunk girl in the "slutty" nurse's outfit? Â The drunk guy dressed up like a pirate doing a jagger shot with the equally as drunk dude dressed up like a priest?
Probably the future attorneys of America. Â The District Lounge is the staple drinking hole for nearby law students - all the more reason as to why I avoided that place for the last three years of my life.
But I was lured here by promises of good drinks and fun times by Kristina G. and I was pleasantly surprised by the awesome drinks, pretty neat djing skills, and great customer service. Â The clientele, however, well, I'll chalk it up to the stress of upcoming midterms and/or Halloween and try not to get too worked up over the guy (dressed up like a referee) who stepped on my foot and then screamed, "ERIC YOU'RE A F!@#(NG P@#*!SSY!!!" in my ear while flipping me off.
Eric, where ever and whoever you are, I hope you got the message.
What makes this place better than the location in Newport Beach?
The Company...the YOCHH company that is.
The ambiance...red, very dive-bar ish and filled with metal up the butt...with the occasional mainstream Top 40 song being played.
Drunken pictures, conversations, mannerisms, with the compliments of 8-ball Pool and Photo Booth pictures.
Success, in my eyes, Yelp-Goodness indeed!
Although I only stayed for 1.5 hours on my first visit here ... I can give this bar a 4 star review. Â If I didn't have to leave I would have stayed longer and probably until they had to kick me out.
The things I liked about this place are simple:
~ attractive female staff
~ mixed crowd
~ not crowded during the time I was there
~ modern jukebox and photo-booth (next time I'll try both)
~ they served amstel light (not all bars do)
~ they bring in a DJ after a certain time on Thursdays
~ they serve food (i seen the tater tots and tacos)
Not too many things I didn't like but the only one I can think of:
~ it was kinda warm in there ... Â I thought it was just me but others confirmed
Good spot for a group of friends or YOCHH (yelp OC happy hour) but you know I'm always down to try new spots, isn't that what Yelp is all about? Â But if it's here again ... I'm in
So I've been by this place a dozen times or more, and have never gone in.
Until last night.
Suffice to say, I was impressed. Definitely a lot of space in this Lounge/Bar/Event place. Comfy old style semi-circle booths, decent beer bottle assortment, LOTS of room. This place could go from playing Black Rebel Motorcycle Club to Beck to Shred to Non-Poppy Hip Hop and back and not feel out of place. The poppier the song though, the more out of place it feels. This place could make over into a small bistro no problem, with it's lay out, but it's fine EXACTLY the way it is. Sweet.
Prices were pretty good, AMPLE parking across the street off of Lemon (Near the train station) and lots of good eats nearby (Haven't tried the food yet, save for a basket of fries).
Honestly this place was alright, for a first impression. I couldn't complain about the beer prices. Bartenders were really nice, and for the most part, the crowd was decent. For the most part...
The only thing I can really complain about and not give it 5 stars for, is the crowd that was there before our Yelp crew got into full swing. Ms. 30+something hooting and hollering about Oregon State, you must be at least as loud in the sack - Problem is, being loud in the sack and loud in the bar have exacty the same lifetime of "quaint." After the first 10 minutes, you can shut the hell up. At that point that charm that we thought was original and "quaint" rapidly turns into Oh Father of Heavenly Saints Shut Her Up Damned Annoying. That's part one.
Part two? The bathroom. Toilet Backups are a bad thing, but I'm not gonna blame the crew here for that - I'll blame the drunk guy that spewed and pewed, all in one go. Mental note, you can spew as the toilet flushes yo. At least they made a note that it was off limits so no douche would go and inadvertently flood the place. Sucks for those that are pee-shy. Half a star docked 'cause it wasn't fixed while I was there, but not a full point, because they saved my shoes from smelling like... well... a urinal.
So to recap for a first impression - good happy hour prices, decent crowd, lots of room, cool feel, great location, and not completely crappy music. That means I'll be back.
Ambiance: 4 stars
Drinks: 3 stars
Service: 3.5 stars
Well, it looks like I've been coaxed out of semi-Yelp-retirement after one night of YOCHHing it up at the District. Â That's gotta be good for at least a 4 star rating, eh?
Anyway, the District Lounge turned out to be a pleasant surprise and a good place to congregate as a group. Â I guess you could say we were a Yelp congregation last night... and we worshipped at the altar of alcohol. Â Ever notice how similar a bar could be to an altar? Â
As it was my first YOCHH (Yelp Orange County Happy Hour for those not privy to the acronym's meaning) it was great to be able to meet at a spacious, mellow place. Â The District was not at all crowded around 7:30 when the Mrs. Q and I arrived, and it proved conducive to mingling with fellow Yelpers. Â Instead of shouting "HI I'M MIKE Q" directly into the inner ear canal of newlymets and still being misheard and misnomered as "MARK CHOO," we were able to have actual, you know, conversations... about fantasy football, for instance, or adventures in office work. Â Hey, I didn't say we had scintillating conversation. Â But we could have!
I guess the bottom line is that until the DJ started spinning his um, Macbook, the District was a good hang-out spot that offered cheap drinks and other diversions - pool tables, shuffleboard, jukebox, and photobooth! - in case those scintillating conversations dried up or never materialized in the first place. Â I'm gonna stop myself from rambling further - for more details you should check out Mrs. Q's review. Â I'm trying out this new concept called "brevity" which for me is four paragraphs.
"Hot and bothered" wasn't the feeling, it was more like feeling ancy and restless enough to put on my dancing pair of all stars for going down to the District Lounge. Â But I think it was just the luscious red velvet wallpaper and "slight" increase in room temperature that added to the former. Â
District is a great place to throw back a few in group mode - e.g. YOCHH last night. Â On the south side of the bar, a row of comfy booths, and on the north side, a longish bar with flat screens ever so proudly showing the Trojans getting b-tch slapped by the Beavers (27-21). Â The medium strength drinks are at college student prices, but those happy hour drink specials? Â Yeah, those $3 quality beers were "such" the little teases in short skirts. Â I wanted to nail 'em so bad. Â Good thing I had the self control to stick with my $6 Vodka/Sodas, else I might've woken up with something I didn't "necessarily" plan for...Ummmm, should I call you or you call me? Â Not this time, Stella. Â
Pros:
1. Â Music evolved from good to decent/appropriate. Â We started with Tool's Vicarious and ended on Nelly's "Hot in HERRR"...was that right? Â
2. Â Photo booth for hamming it up as we did!
3. Â Pool tables make great places for sitting, until they tell you to get your asses off of them.
4. Â TABLE SHUFFLEBOARD!!! Â That game rocks. Â I wanna play this next time.
5. Â Kick ass tater tots!!! Â Nice and crunchy. Â Just like I made 'em at home.
Cons:
6. Â None really. Â Even though it was college night, no overly exuberant frats, pseudo-intellectual conversation starters, nor necessity for wearing an extremely unfashionable wristband AND no dominance needed to be asserted all night (save for the weirdos at the center table which I gave the good ol' stare-down).
Overall, fun times at the District. Â Yay! I'm a fan.
Chalk it up as another bar Hazel Q frequents that has red walls and a photobooth. Well, I don't frequent it yet, but after last night, I just may.
OC yelpers decided to forgo the bad plumbing at Proof for the (somewhat, from what I hear) better plumbing at The District Lounge in Orange. Checking out the website beforehand I noticed that Thursday is "College Night" and immediately thought, "Shit, if anybody asks me what my major is I'm going to kick them in the shins." But I walked in and was surprised to not see too many of these purported college kids around at all, what I did see was a fab group of Yelpers already knocking a few back. Time for me to catch up.
I had heard there was some sort of happy hour special extended until 10pm, what I didn't know was that it meant any beer was only $3. ANY beer. How freaking awesome is that? Bud Light? $3 Stella? $3 Guinness? $3 That Tahiti whatever beer I drank all night? $3 Too bad I didn't realize they had Fat Tire until after 10pm. Oh well, I got used to the Tahiti beer.
A few $3 beers and 8 Puff Daddy (yes, when he was still called that) songs later we were filling the photobooth and drunkenly trying to play some pool. A few beers after that is when the DJ arrived, dancefloor opened up and good times were had by all.
Fast bartenders, pool, a photobooth and red walls? Sounds like my kind of place.
Thumbs Up:
-Good tunes...once the DJ arrived and it wasn't just a CD on repeat.
-Photobooth. Any place with a photobooth is automatically at least three stars.
-$3 Fat Tire? Absolutely
-Red walls and easy parking - a recipe for success.
Thumbs Down:
-It was a smidge warm in there, but it gives everyone that slight glistening glow, right? That's what I tell myself it does for me anyway.
