The Quill Lounge was a part of the "D-Tour" (Dive bar tour) that my Yelper-In-Crime, Lili H., and I went on fairly recently and this one was our first stops.
I'm a big fan of dive bars, so why does The Quill Lounge only get the "A-OK' 3 stars rating from me? Â
Well, before I get into all that, Â you should get an idea of what the place is like. Â As soon you walk in the bar begins and goes about half way down through the bar. Â I liked the bar set up, along with the friendly bartender who never seemed to stop smiling (a good thing). Â It's a small dive bar, but appears like it could still strategically sit about 25-30 people.
I liked the decor of the place and the Laker banners didn't hurt either. Â The old-time cash register was a cool thing to behold too.
They didn't have any beer on tap; that was a big disappointment. Â Secondly, the locals sitting by the entrance were smoking one cigarette after another. Â I don't mind a little smoke, but there were copious amounts of it the day we came here. Â
It's smack in the middle of two super markets shopping centers, Albertsons and Superior. Â So if you are heading West on 17th and pass Superior Market, you've passed The Quill. Â If you are heading East on 17th Street (towards the 55 Freeway) and you pass Albertsons, you've gone too far and you need to flip a b*tch. Â Haha.
Not a bad experience. Â But no one can replace my favorite dive bar, which is only a couple lights away from this one........
