I have been to the Dublin Pub many many times and this last experience was just a nightmare. Somehow we got 2 waiters and between them it took 20 mins to get a drink order in and correct. I eventually went to the bar and got my drink in less than a minute. Then when we wanted another drink it was the same thing. Then there was a busboy who needed to wear a freakin belt. You could see he was wearing green underwear. He knew we were talking about him but yet did nothing to correct it. It took them 45 mins before our food order got in and we had been there about an hour and 20 mins when we finally ate. The food was good as usual but this experience with the staff really ruin it for me.
Review Source:I gotta say the cheesy bacon fries are excellent. The appetizers are large portions could be a meal!  I love fried pickles and the ones here are sublime!  Don't  pass up the opportunity to try a burger either.  They are huge and deeeelish!  Excellent beer selection, great service, and wonderful decor. Good location downtown too!  It's a great pub!
Review Source:Dublin Pub,
Are you guys freaking crazy for trying to charge $15 for Acid Cigars? Â Really...jerks.
I digress...ordered the Fish and Chips ($9) and upgraded the chips to "house chips" ($2).
Fish came out in small strips. Â Felt skimpy to me. Â The chips were good though. Â
We came here on a Monday night and a band was getting ready to start. Â
I agree that the service could be better. Â Monday night was slow so it was easy forcing the waitress to pay attention to us. Â It just felt like she didn't care one way or another whether we were there or not.
Absolutely horrible service. We stopped here while passing through town. Surly wait staff completely ignored us, even waiting on locals who arrived long after us. Â That should have been our clue to leave but we were starving, and the historic downtown area across the street was packed with some sort of festival. It took three waiters and me finally having to get rude myself to finally get service. And the food? The shepherds pie was mediocre at best. The only reason they get 2 stars is the beer was good.
Review Source:Popped into The Dublin Pub after a movie at The Neon. Waited forever for the server as we heard other servers scurry by stating, "Where's Sarah? Where's Sarah?" If someone could have possibly stated that Sarah would be with us in a minute as they searched the premises for her or taken our drink orders or even acknowledged us, that would have been fantastic. However, no one said anything.
Sarah arrived having memorized the entire beer selections, but didn't know much about the mixed drinks other than to give me a recommendation list. There was a live band outdoors, but it was packed. The inside was available for seating, so I sat there. The music was eighties and cranked up really loud, so it was impossible to hear anything being said. We determined not to order much due to the excessive wait time. We both tried the potato soup, which was wonderful. We had fried pickles for an appetizer. I wasn't that impressed with the pickles breading. It was kind of doughy. I would go again to give it a second chance, but if there were problems waiting again, I would find a different bar to grace with my presence.
I visited the Dublin Pub at lunch, so I couldn't drink. I had the Portobello Sandwich. I have never had a burger with a portobello mushroom cap in place of the patty, but I must say I really liked it. The fries were excellent. The tables were small and I found the chairs uncomfortable, but that is a small price to pay for good food.
Review Source:This is the second time we've been to the Dublin Pub, wanting to give them a second chance.
The food is wonderful, although we waited over 40 min. and our dinners were lukewarm at best. The atmosphere is nice, exactly what you would expect from an "Irish pub".
HOWEVER...the service is HORRIBLE! We ate inside both times....and that is where we think the problem is. People sitting outside seemed to have several servers, while we had to wait for a refill on a glass of soda. The first time, my husband finally got up and went to the bar to get his seltzer refilled as the server was nowhere to be found.
If you aren't planning on drinking, again this is where we think the problem was, don't go. They completely ignore you.
I did call and spoke with the manager on duty and she said she was going to address the problems we encountered. She was VERY nice and apologized. I did not want any kind of compensation as we will not be going back.
Oh and the parking is VERY small, we had to park at the place next door.
It's a pub, not a restaurant, don't expect it to be what it isn't.
That being said, it is probably the best pub food in town. Â Really different stuff, and tasty, too.
It's a trip back to a different era and time. Â A lot of fun.
If you are in the mood for an experience like this, go and enjoy.
It is what it is: a little Irish pub, filled with sturdy wooden tables and booths, lively music and lotsa beer. Â The food is typical pub fare but tastier than lots of stuff I've consumed alongside drinks. Â The service was great. Â I highly recommend the Irish chips with white wine cheese sauce and bacon... DELISH!
Review Source:Recently spent a lot of time at MVH, with friends and family bringing me food so I didn't have to go out. After several days of this, I was all carbed out from eating so much pizza and sandwiches. So when someone called and asked if they could bring me dinner I said I needed comfort food - real food. No carbs.
So they brought me beef stew from here. The kind of beef stew your Grandma made. Big chucks of meat, carrots, potatoes, onions in a thick beef gravy. OMG - it was just what the Doctor ordered. It made me happy and warmed me up.
Apparently they don't do carry out much. They lined one of those doggy bag containers with foil. There was no bread, butter, fork. Just the stew, and while it was thick enough to eat with your fingers I did manage to scrounge up a fork. Also, when my friend told them it was going to MVH they did offer a free piece of carrot cake. Nice.
An Irish Pub in Dayton - with strikingly few if any Irish folks? Well not anywhere I was seated, in other parts of the country that would be a non-starter. That said, everything was great - the food, service, and prices - be bold and indulge the specials too, you wont be disappointed. I went later on a week night and enjoyed a large table to spread out with less people than chairs.
Review Source:I don't know HOW the Dub Pub was only rated with 3.5 stars!?!?!?
Anyway, I cannot check in from my computer, so I wanted to comment that while I spent a BEAUTIFUL evening on the patio drinking Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, I enjoyed some pub fries and ordered a RUCK to go. Upon finding out they were out of pretzel rolls, the waiter returned to ask me if  I'd still like it, and I really appreciated that as the pretzel roll MAKES this sandwich :)
I ordered the Bully Beef Shot instead.
Thanks for being a class act, Dub Pub! I drove from Columbus to Dayton for your infinite goodness!
I don't frequently go to Irish pubs, nor do I enjoy sitting at the bar to eat but was with a friend and that was his choice. Nonetheless, I had a good time and a good meal. How bad can ANYTHING or ANYPLACE be when you have a pint of Guinness?
For dinner I had Bangers and Champ.... and it was a very much enjoyed rendition. My buddy had something like a fisherman's platter. I would have been disappointed (everything looked previously frozen and deep fried) but he really liked it. Go figure.
The bar tender and wait staff were all kind and efficient. They were there when we needed them and gone the rest of the time. We met a friend there and were able to eat, drink, and be merry in just the way one would expect to be able to do so in a decent pub.
Yay! I'm a fan.
You can't miss with the pub fries, Dayton classic! I recently tried shamrocks smothered sirlion & was very tasty. Plus the limelagers, Harps with Rose's lime juice. The only complaint is the service from time to time.
Hard to believe this place used to be a Shell station over ten years ago.
One of my favorite spots in Dayton. Â When I envision a bar that I would like to own, it would be the Dublin Pub. Â Great beer selection and amazing food for a pub. Â
It is refreshing to order fried pickles and actually get a full bowl of fried pickles.
They did a great job hosting the games during the World Cup. Â Large projection screen in the middle where the whole pub could see.
Owners are great and love supporting the small businesses in Dayton.
Cheers!!!
I try to hit at least one Irish pub in every city I visit, since they are getting quite ubiquitous. I went to the Dublin Pub on a Tuesday evening for dinner and the open mic night. The food was good for pub food. I had the classic boxty and found it tasty although a bit too salty. The garlic green beans were awesome. Good selection of beer and the bar tender knows how to pour a Guinness. The two musicians doing the open mic thing were good, one playing mostly modern American acoustic guitar and the other (whom I believe was Scott) playing some Irish tunes. I wished I had my guitar to get up and play a few.
There were posters around the place for an upcoming CD release party for a celtic band featuring banjo, guitar, pipes and whistle. I liked that - they appear to support the traditional celtic music scene. I would love to check the place out when a band is playing.
We were visiting in town and for some reason I insisted we go here -- and we are glad we did.
I had the Ruck, it was amazing. We had the spinach dip -- which was spinach dip -- but whattya gonna do, right? It is what it is. Everyone else loved the food.
Trisch was our waitress. We had had a very long day and she made it an absolute blast. A really funny, fun, witty, delightful person to have serve us.
The boy has been wanting to come here for quite some time. Â I like pubs. Â Real pubs. Â But I've yet to find a real pub in Central Ohio so I'll just judge this place from the standpoint of a sports bar that serves Guinness, which is what most US pubs are anyway. Â
But as that, this place isn't half bad! Â The food is average (I had a portobello burger) and the chips aren't real pub chips (pouty face). Â The atmosphere is decent but rather lackluster. Â And for all that I'd give it 3 stars. Â A-OK. Â But they had on the AC Milan vs Juventus footie match AND, yes AND an Irish Rugby match. Â All I needed was a cricket match to make the evening complete!
The Dublin Pub is now my local hangout. Â They have some pretty good beer on tap, good service, and are willing to make special plates for me because of my large number of allergies, and because I am vegan. Â The last part takes effort. Â I am allergic to soy, citrus, wheat, peanuts, corn, egg and dairy. Â I'm also vegan, so I don't eat meat. Â They'll do it, without any griping. Â My boyfriend is an omnivore and he likes the food there, too. Â The interior is authentic. Â The Dublin Pub is a good overall local hangout.
Review Source:Went here while on a business trip to Dayton, OH to have some drinks and food. Â The place was pretty crowded, but we found a place at the back of the place. Â The drinks (got beer and mixed drinks) were excellent, and everyone loved their food. Â The service was excellent and there was even some live entertainment. Â We were winding down from a busy day, so we didn't mind the noise, but if you're looking for an intimate place to eat, this is not the place.
Review Source:If you ever find yourself in Dayton, Ohio....
Order these things: Â
- The ruck
- Fried pickles
- Coffee comes in giant Beer Mugs... pretty weird, and just too much :-Z
A big downside for sitting outside were the bees that consistently pester people sitting and eating. Â I would suggest (in the Spring-Fall) sitting inside.
One of those run-of-the-Mill Irish pub places every city seems to have. Now, there was a time when these were on the cutting edge of beer food and drink but no more. I visited other pubs in the city which had much better selections of beer. Tradition is great, but this place needs another 10 beers on tap to catch up with the best Irish pubs in the US. Â I did not eat here but the food looked run of the mill.
Review Source:I've been in town for about a week, and the Dublin Pub is really close to my house, so because it's often busy and close, by default I've been here a few times. I must say, I get nothing from Irish bars. I don't like beer or whisky. Soooo.
The patio situation is nice. The chairs are wire and uncomfortable, but it is a nice open area and it's easy to see what is going on, yet have privacy. The inside and outside is very clean, and well kept. Good sign. Indoors is very irish and cold. Brrrr. But it's charming, from what I've seen of it--- I've beelined out of there both times since I was freezing.
The first time we were there, was about 2PM on a weekday. Â I was with my mom and we ordered very nice cider ales which were delicious and sweet. A very drunk lady came over to us when our server was taking our picture, and asked, "Do you want a picture of the three of you?" Well, we didn't really know the server at all, and he is this older Irish guy, so we just said, "Um, okay," so as not to hurt his feelings. I thought maybe it was an Irish thing. THe server did not agree it was a good idea and he looked at her in complete shock/ fear, and said "I'm just the server!" and beelined out of there. She then launched into a story about Mexico and how she thought he was a barista, whatever. I think she was trying to hit on him personally. But it was funny.
My roommate and I were there on Friday around 7:00PM. It was really busy inside as there was an Irish band playing at 8, so the crowd was filling up. The patio was still fairly populated with beer drinkers and cigar smokers. We ordered some beer, bottled. My roommate got a blueberry ale, and I ordered a domestic, as I really hate beer, so that's about as hardcore as I get with beer. We drank and chatted, and long after our drinks were gone, our server was MIA. A barback dude who was really cute, took my roommates empty bottle but left mine. He came back several times, and sometimes would pick up my bottle and then put it back down. Finally, I realized he thought I wasn't done with it, since there was about 1/2 ounce of beer left in it. Why he didn't just ask if he could take it I found out later.
Okay, so my roommate and I were seriously getting ansy, so we summon over the mute barback dude and ask for our tab. He said something, and I asked him to repeat it. He said something again. And again. And again. It took like 5 minutes, and we still didn't know what he said. My roommate thought he said, "Do you want another one?" and I thought he said, "Are you done with this." So we had no idea what was going to happen when he came back. Would he have our check? More beer?
He impressed me by summoning our original server who took our money on the spot and we left, kind of confused about the whole thing. As I left, the older guy who didn't want to be in the picture was outside and he said good-bye. I don't think he likes me for some reason.
Interesting experience. Or maybe that is just the way things are around here.
My friends took me here when I visited Dayton last week. Â Although i didn't get to eat their food, from what i've heard, their food were good, too.
The people here were friendly and I loved $3 beers and half price Guinness on Thursday. Â It felt so good to sit outside at night! Â I'll come back again when i get chance, Mr. Dublin Pub. :-)
Went to the Dublin Pub for the first time last night. Â Listened to a band called Fin Tan. Â Excellent band! Â Nice place overall. Â I like the fact that the outside area is "cigar friendly", but wish they would at least put a roof over it to keep the rain off. Â I would and will go back.
Review Source:Pretty decent but let's not get too giddy about the place - it's been around for a little while now and I think it's slightly declined over the past few years (Thai Nine has also experienced this, so I'm not just picking on these guys).
I used to stop by after work on occasion, or with the lady for some fish and chips and a pint. Â They used to have salads with actual greens, now it's a bowl of iceberg with some diced tomatoes. Â I've always been a little suspicious about the "perfect pint" - when I order a Guinness and get it one minute later - it's likely not perfect (almost two inches of head doesn't help). Â The food is ok, more upscale "Irish" bar food, the fried pickles were very salty and after a few minutes I just had to stop.
The atmosphere is good, they have lots of choices re: Scotch, Whiskey, etc., and decent beers on tap. Â The highlight of our last visit was the live music (which should tell you something) - a guy belting out the Talking Heads, Billy Joel, and Joe Cocker - we actually got up to leave and sat back down for Blackbird by the Beatles (he even did the little bird parts).
I probably eat/drink here about 3 times a year - any more than that is too often.
The Oregon District... hyped up to us by the hotel manager as a quaint neighborhood with some of her 'favorites'. She listed off 5 restaurants, turns out that was pretty much the whole district... haha.
This place had the biggest crowd out of the restaurants.. we decided to step in and take a seat. There was a bit of confusion as we weren't greeted at the door, but it seemed that a 40 person party just came in and we were eventually sorted out to a nice seat.
Overall, a good selection of beer (Irish heavy, Guinness recommended..) I had the crab cakes which were alright but  much too heavy/salty.
The waiter somehow forgot we ordered an appetizer, and we totally forgot to check if it was on the bill... that's alright though, he tried hard to help us find our next stop. However, the food took forever to come, and it didn't seem that hard to make.
Probably would not return other than to have a quick drink.
Great beer selection and relatively friendly staff, but i have never had a good meal here. I've eaten there about four times and have yet to be even halfway impressed.
Each time I've had to send my food back (and NO I'm not picky.). Burgers come out blackened and crunchy, and chicken came out so tough I couldn't chew it.
French fries are delicious and the atmosphere is good, but the food SUCKS.
Stopped in here for a day cap after lunch across the street at the Trolley Stop. I had to get a bowl of potato soup with bacon and cheese. A huge heaping mound of gooey yumminess. Very tasty and worth $4.99. I wanted to try some Irish whiskey so ordered a Jameson Manhattan. The bartender served it just right, cherry and all. After that I had a "perfect pint of Guinness" to wash it all down. Perfect pint indeed. Just chilled enough to accentuate the coffee and chocolate notes of the Guinness. Service was prompt and friendly even though they got very busy while we were there. I docked a star because they could price their mixed drinks a little more reasonable for the Dayton demographic. A shame that my Manhattan cost more than my huge, heaping potato soup. There seems to always be live music here in a great authentic pub atmosphere. Worth a stop for anyone in the Dayton area.
Review Source:I'm a Brit and live locally so it is a real treat to be able to eat bangers and mash, cottage pie or fish and chips and wash it down with great beer or Irish whiskey. The ambience is very like an Irish pub, the staff attentive, the bar heavily stocked and good to sit at. The live events and music are a bonus. This is a real gem on the east end of Dayton's Oregon District. Lots of shops and other good restaurants nearby.
Review Source:I've been to this place a number of times and I'm usually quite happy with the experience. That may have something to do with all the draft beers available, I don't know.
Anyway, I usually order the cheese fries which are different in that they have a white, creamy cheese sauce smothering steak fries. It's a great appetizer. Next we usually get the boxty, either vege or chicken, both are very good. We've also tried the pretzel sandwich which is also very good. Other menu items are sometimes alittle spotty.
The service is always good and whenever we feel like having a "bit of Ireland", this is the spot where we find it.
