Having been languishing at the state of BBQ in Wilmington for some time I had the opportunity to swing by Duke's for a sandwich before heading out of town on a trip West.
The sandwich was delicious, great smoked flavor in the pork, which was very tender. Â They have three options for sauces, a hot and mild vinegar based sauce and a mustard based sauce. Â I went for the mustard base and was not disappointed. Â
The buffet looked great, and fresh, which is not what you usually see. Â I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try on a day when I had more of an appetite. Â
Best BBQ in the Wilmington area. Â If only they could do something like this downtown.
Decided to try this buffet style restaurant after reading several good reviews. I was not dissapointed. The buffet doesn't have a huge selection, but what was there was delicious. Let me start with the fried chicken. It was everything fried chicken is supposed to be. Well seasoned crunchy coating and juicy. The BBQ was smoky and good with different BBQ sauces for you to choose from. I tried the eastern vinegar based and the "House" mild. The eastern was just what you would expect and the "House" was different, maybe mustard? I liked it. The hushpuppies were really light and tasty, not overly corn mealy as some others I have had in the area. The macaroni and cheese was great too. Slaw was good, potato salad good as well. Both tasted homemade. They have a homemade BBQ hash, that reminded me somewhat of a purreed brunswick stew (try it over rice).I didn't try the banana pudding, but my dining partner did and declared it "really good". There was a bit more to try, but I didn't have room for it.
