Where can you go for FREE!  Yes free!

I live in the area and this concert series in the park is fabulous.

Thanks to our wonderful Roberto B. who set up this particular UYE, we had another wonderful time.  The park is so nice ,the stage is large, and they offer many great DJ's, bands, groups, individual artist once a month.

Heineken had tables and chairs set up not far from the stage, where we could enjoy the music yet hear each other talk.  We came with our own vino, yummy as all the bottles were great.  We had snacks and plenty of them.  I met some new friends and so enjoyed hanging out with the ever so funny Roberto and Gina.  How can you ever have a bad time with these two crazies. LOL Then who popped in the famous JL, Natasha and Lena, Sabrina Anna, Michelle L., Melissa, Beatriz and even Jimmy. Was great seeing everyone.

I have been to many of these concerts and it is a perfect way to spend a Friday night with good friends, drinks and food.  They also have vendors and food trucks. So you can eat, drink, shop, listen to fabulous music and just chill.

Thank you Roberto for organizing and thank you Miami for putting this on every month.

We turned this little free city sponsored soiree into a WONDERFUL UYE and it was really a great time.  Free music that was spot on; lovely goodies brought by a variety of people; Gina had some outstanding brie, hummus and a variety of condiments/relishes and red wine and Michelle, Dom and Danielle wowed with a large assortment of boutique red wines (STAGS LEAP!!) and perfect cheeses as sides.  It was a chance to meet Melissa, Vicky, Julio and friends from past and present jobs and I can't wait till March 1 to do it all again!!

I think due to a garlic festival in Broward there was not a lot of vendors; in fact just a smattering - but the FOOD TRUCKS - OH THE FOOD TRUCKS - they were in abundance and boy did (culinary) blessings flow! nom nom nom....

BTW the Heineken Beer Garden provided ample tables, chairs and a full bar.

if you're ever bored in South Florida, i will never sympathize with you. there is always something new to see, somewhere new to go and new things to do. ALWAYS! whether it be on a Friday night, or just another lazy Thursday afternoon.

now, if you're ever broke in South Florida, i can sympathize and relate. we've all been there, which is why it's good to take advantage of the free and low cost events happening around town.  SoFla's got food truck rallies, Art Walks, even some museums offer discounted ticket prices depending on the day.  but one of the best events i could ever recommend would be the DMCS - a series of free performances of old, new, and up & coming artists at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater.

so far I've had the opportunity to see:
    Sister Hazel / GDH
    Ky-Mani Marley / Jahfé
    and
Allen Stone / the Jacob Jeffries Band

The series aren't limited to just live music.  The Downtown Development Authority and the Knight Foundation has rounded up some great sponsors to make these events more like festivals.  Heineken has provided each event with a cash bar, outdoor furniture, and drafts including Amsdel Light and Newcastle as part of their Beer Garden for guests to enjoy during the show.  Car2go has representatives under tents allowing people to register for their program to time share vehicles around Miami for a small fee daily or by the hour. The Food Truck Invasion has brought some of my favorite trucks to the scene including AZ Canteen and Latin Burger to provide snacks and meals to satisfy any palette.  There's even a Farmers' Market and Arts & Crafts vendors along the pavilion selling handmade clothing, homemade baked goods and produce, crafts, jewelry and so much more.

If parking's what worries you, there's free parking all along Flagler after 6PM.  Parking is also available on the street at the metered spots (or free if you sign up for a Car2go account) and the Bayside Marketplace garage is a great option to park in to spend the rest of the evening with some retail therapy after the concert!

sometimes you want to experience what Miami has to offer without having to deal with the pretentious crowd. The DWNTWN concert series offers a very family and pet friendly environment without the usual annoyances. dogs (and sometimes children, too) are on a leash and always on their best behavior. during the concert, there's never a bad spot.  people are friendly. There's no pushing and there's plenty of room for shorties like me to get a chance to get to the front of the stage or get a good photo op.

so whether you're looking for a romantic date location, a family outing, or a place to lay out a blanket on the grass and just relax, DMCS is a wonderful option to spend a Friday evening.

Last Friday was my first time attending a DWNTWN Miami Concert, and I have to say this event is Yelp 5-star worthy!

It is the type of event where you can go with a couple of friends, lie down on a blanket, and listen to amazing live music. Last Friday, Sister Hazel performed, and although the crowd could have been bigger, this type of venue reminded me of the time when I lived in Mississippi relaxing with the community. There was no pretentiousness at all. Families were present, and I was just able to sit down, relax, and enjoy company with friends. A+ in providing a charming local vibe.

Adding to the atmosphere was the amazing fresh food provided by the Farmer's Market. Shoutouts to Pika Sauce and Roc Kat Ice Cream. Your food is fresh and delicious! I also enjoyed a few fresh jams and granola bars--can't remember the vendor's name.

But do you know what was the best thing about the event?, It was FREE! A blessing for those on a budget.

Huge props to the Knight Foundation and Downtown Development Authority for hosting the DWNTWN Miami Concert Series!

I look forward to the next concert. "Move over New York and Chicago!" Miami is taking huge steps in becoming the next huge cultural icon.
