Seems like they have put some effort into cleaning this place up since I had been here last (a few summers ago). Looked like it had been hit with some paint and redecorating (they also added a wood burning stove near the bar - which was nice on this cold & snowy night)
Went this past weekend to see a Motown / R & B group. Was a little taken a back when I ordered 2 bud lites and was brought cans...but I guess not everything has changed at this water front establishment. Â Lol.
Still a great place to have a few drinks for cheap while avoiding the traffic and nonsense of Downtown Providence!
Can't wait for spring to come down and enjoy the deck!
It's a dive bar.
On the water.
Cash only (with an ATM located on-site).
We enjoyed a sunny Sunday afternoon here with a few friends, just as it was creeping into warm enough temps to sit outside. Â We ordered our beers and a glass of chardonnay (henceforth known as the "cup o'wine") by the server behind the bar who immediately greeted us upon entering. Â Definitely a locals joint with lots of bikers, but we had been in the market for a place to replace Topside (closed, reopened as Agave), and this is it.
The deck looks relatively new, and it looks like there is room for live music to the side - I noticed advertisements for bands, but none was there that particular day. Â There are no-frills slips which we believe indicate transient slip availability for the passing mariner looking to come onto land for refreshment.
A limited greasy-spoon type menu, pool table, an old-school video game or two, and generous pour (my cup o'wine) added to the water view looking over to Waterman Grille, Stuck-up Bridge (aka: Crook Point Bascule Bridge), and India Point Park with plenty of outdoor seating make this a new favorite dive bar.
Nothing fancy, but it definitely has it's niche. Â
To be determined if they are an official 'yacht club'. Â If they are: we're joining and will fly the EPYC flag. Â Oh yeah.
Stopped in for a drink on the recommendation of a friend on a Friday evening. Â Â The place was a little more low-scale than the name would imply - but the atmosphere was not bad - small woodburning stove added a nice touch. Â The place seemed semi-full of what appeared to be "regulars" - blue collar guys (sweatshirts/flannel shirts/jeans) and a couple of gals, just enjoying a beverage after work. Â My husband and I arrived a little more "dressed" - only because we, too, had come from work - but our workplace attire is more business casual - and while we felt like we stood out a bit, we weren't uncomfortable. Â That is until my husband approached the bar and was "greeted" by a barmaid with an attitude. Â He asked her what kind of beers they had and she gestured toward the shelf above her (with a "Look up there, Stupid" expression) where the sample bottles were displayed. Â He chose one and then also ordered a marguerita - straight up, for me. Â We're guessing she never heard the "straight up" part - because she made the drink in a very tall, heavy blue glass (the style more along the line of what would arrive had your child ordered a large glass of milk at a restaurant - not exactly what margueritas are served in) replete with ice - Â and without thinking, my husband accepted it. Â When I mentioned to him that I had asked for it straight up, he brought it back to the barmaid, who then snottily strained the mixture out and then returned it to said, huge glass, and gave it back to him. (For those unfamiliar, margueritas "up" are commonly served in a marguerita glass, but if the establishment doesn't have those, they generally use some other sort of stemware). Â Since much of the salt had been removed in the straining process, he asked her if she might re-salt the glass - to which she turned the glass around - and said "there's still salt on it" - and handed it back, as is.
We drank our drinks - and left.
OK - a small snippet, I know. But we all know how important first impressions are.
Will we return? Not likely... though maybe we'll give it another shot come summertime, as there's a deck out along the water... however, should Miz 'Tude be at her post, we'll be doing a u-turn.
