This has become our "Go To" restaurant for Tex-Mex style food. Â Portions are large, the food is tasty, and they even sneak an occasional Mexico-style dish onto the menu or specials board. Â Molcajete. Â Try it, you'll like it. Â Tortas ... what Latinos would replace the hamburger with if they owned McDonalds. Â It's ALL Good!
Review Source:My family and I have eaten here many times and this was the last time we will ever eat here.  First after we got our drinks and chips we waited over 20 minutes for our waiter to comes back just to take our food order. While waiting for our food we were asked if we wanted more chips so another server went and got us our chip, my husband witnessed the server get our chips by using his BARE hands.  After noticing this we watched many other bus boys clean tables and then go get chips without washing their hands or putting on gloves.  I think the most disturbing thing of our visit was we watched a waiter fill another tables drinks and take a sip out of the two drinks and then serve them to customers.  Nasty!!!!  Got our food shortly after.  While eating,  I watched the wait staff  refill chips in the warmer and fill baskets with a double dose of hand juice.  This was our favorite Cornelia restaurant.  Time to try something else.
Review Source:The only reason El Patron gets a 3 in my book is the service. It was incredibly slow and our waiter took his time between visits. The food was actually very good and the drinks are spot on. Might have just been a bad visit, but that is the consistent knock I have heard from others as well.
Review Source:Excellent food but very poor service. We waited about ten minutes to place a drink order while six employees were just standing around. It took another 30 minutes to get our meal which came out piecemeal.
There is gross lack of leadership. Again I say that the food was excellent but management has a problem.
Pretty good Mexican food. Excellent staff. It was like a contest with them to see how fast they could bring me water, chips, salsa, etc. I had the carne asada. Very well prepared, great seasoning. Decent chips and salsa. The pico de gallo was a little heavy on the onion and a little light on the tomatoes.
Review Source:Tried this on a Tuesday night at about 8:30, so the sidewalks were fixing to roll up. Â The food was fine - the cerviche was nice, with some spicy bits that were easy to work around, and they had no problem creating a very tasty spinach, mushroom, and shrimp quesadilla for us. Â On the food, I'd probably say four stars.
What dropped it in my estimation was the beer, and to a lesser extent, the service. Â
First the beer: Â I wanted Bohemia, which they did not have, and settled for my date's preference, a Tecate. Â Which came in a can. Â Yes, you read that right. Â I expect canned beer buried in the ice of a cooler at Bubba's backyard barbeque (to wash down the grease), but not in a restaurant. Â Beer should come in a bottle, period. Â The glass to pour the aluminum flavored contents into was chilled nicely, but the rim was salted - I don't like it that way, but was too lazy to ask for another. Â At least the lime was fresh.
As for the service, it wasn't bad, really, but our server seemed to disappear for extended periods when we sort of wanted him. Â Which was surprising since it seemed like the staff equaled the guests in number by that time of of a midweek evening.
So I guess I'll try it again and sample more of the menu, but at this point I wouldn't rate El Patron any better or worse than the local "El Nombre" competition.
I'm only giving this restaurant a 3 star because of what I ordered and expected but got; even though it was pretty good.
This restaurant is fairly new and obviously quite popular at this point. Â The place was jam packed 2 Fridays ago at lunch. Â Even so, the service was perfect and atmosphere warm and comfortable. Â Great job on that!
Now to my food. Â I love, and was craving, stuffed pablano peppers. Â It said on the menu it was stuffed with cheese and choice of meat. Â I did ground beef. Â Also, I'm used to it being dipped in egg white and fried that way. Â Well, it wasn't dipped in the egg, which I can deal with, but the question was, "Where's the cheese?", it had like a drop, seriously. Â Now maybe if you asked for it meatless it would have been stuffed with cheese, I don't know. Â But the way it was made was like a regular American stuff pepper. Â No Mexican flavor at all, which I so missed.
I will go back because I'd like to try more but if I ask for the pablanos again, I will asked if it can be stuffed with cheese only.
My wife and I are from southern California and have moved from there living from in the northwest and south to southeast and we have missed AUTHENTIC and DELICIOUS Mexican food and this place delivered!  Ordered the mocajete which was  GINORMOUS and forced myself to eat this huge helping of seasoned perfectly grilled dish of beef, chicken, chorizo, grilled peppers, and REAL mexican cheese knowing that I had never and probably will never get mexican food as good as this unless I visit Mexico.  I usually don't get dessert, especially after eating that much food for an entree, but I had to try knowing I may not get another chance.  The fried ice cream was AWESOME.  Albeit the ice cream was not freshly fried, the vanilla creaminess and sweet cinnamon and sugar was a nice treat.  If the ice cream was freshly fried it would be slightly melted and would had made it that much more delicious.
