El Tejeban boasts a large menu with many authentic Mexican entrees, including tamales.  Chips and salsa are complementary, and the entrees are joined by generous portions of side items.  The decor consists of numerous Tiffany-style lamps and kitschy Americana, which seemed to put most non-Hispanic customers at ease.

This is a great, friendly, authentic spot to go for delicious Mexican food and very pleasant service. I love the spicy garlic shrimp, and the carnitas. The staff is incredibly friendly, and there are tons of options on the menu. We have been many times and are never disappointed with the food or service.

You know your in the right place for a Mexican meal when you walk in and your the only non Hispanic folks in the restaurant.

The food was fresh, authentic, and priced fairly.  In short it was great.

Can't wait to try go again.

I loves me some authentic Mexican food. There are a lot of places in the Cities to find it (lucky me!), but at El Tejaban, I actually felt like I was *in* Mexico. A tourist town like Cancun or Cabo, to be sure, but definitely Mexico. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the food, which is a huge help, as that menu can be a bit overwhelming at first.

We usually come on a weekday for their amazing drink specials. On Monday through Thursday they've got two-for-one margaritas, and their margaritas are pretty dang good. I have had the Pollo Maria la Diabla and the Bistec Maria la Diabla (chicken and steak versions of the same dish), which were both very tasty. The sauce is spicy and vinegary, and it makes for an immensely satisfying meal.

The chips they bring out are lovely: golden brown and crispy. I definitely don't notice an "old oil" taste, mentioned in a previous review. And I LOVE that the salsas aren't the same old-same old. They've got this orange salsa which is spicy and incredible. I can't get enough of that stuff! If you want boring old "Mild" and "Hot", go to Don Pablo's. You don't deserve to share my orange salsa.

Yesterday was our first weekend visit to El Tejaban, and it was quite busy. Nevertheless, we were seated immediately, and we got great service; both our waiter and the manager repeatedly checked on us. I tried the Mariscos (seafood) burrito, and WOW. Fish, shrimp, and scallops all chopped up with cilantro, onion, beans and rice... I ate until I was full and then I just kept eating.

They're always advertising their molcajetes: big clay pots full of meat and vegetables. I would love to try one, but my husband isn't so sure. On Sundays they offer 2 for 1 molcajetes from 4 to 6 pm; what I need to do is get five of my closest friends to come with me to split two of these bad boys. I think it would come to about $35 total. We almost can't afford NOT to do it.

Good food and I can't be too critical. I've been here many times and will go back at some point. While it has a large menu, a lot of the items in any class are pretty similar so there's a lot of cross-over. Prices on some dishes are a little much for what you end up getting. Decent variety of drinks and Mexican beers, although margarita/mojito quality can be iffy depending on who makes it, even during the same visit. A lot of people rave about how "authentic" the place is, I'm not entirely sold, but for Richfield it's not at all bad.

El Tejaban is a very authentic Mexican restaurant. My wife and I had a Living Social voucher to this place at the Hub in Richfield for $30.

The only thing that angered us off was that there was no draft beer and soda came in a can. A big boo.

I ordered a Modelo Especial to start the meal off. The menu is  expansive, but I ordered the chicken torta. My wife got a side of beans and rice and some corn tortillas.

For my lunch, I ordered a Michelada with Pacifico. It was like a bloody Mary with beer. I ordered the Pacifico for my beer. The glass was rimmed with a crushed red pepper blend that made it one of the best drinks I have ever had. It was AMAZING!

The torta was huge, with lots of chicken (I got the spicy option)  and they brought out two salsas. My wife liked the red salsa, but they also had a yellow salsa, which was very tasty, it was just the right amount of spicy. I added some of the red salsa to it and it was FANTASTIC! I really liked it. It is so large, that I brought the second half home for dinner.

My wife's rice and beans were also fantastic. I tried a bite of the frijoles, and they were awesome. The rice was ncely seasoned and with the salsa, my wife made some wonderul vegetarian tacos.

I only had half of my fries, but they were the best fries I have ever tasted. They were super crispy and just perfect.  I can't figure out how they made them so crispy.

Our waiter was super awesome as well, he always checked on us and refilled the beer when needed.

Our meal ended up at the $30 level, so everything worked out perfect.

    Overall, a fantastic place!

We were undecided about whether we wanted just an appetizer or a full meal when the very nice waiter brought the chips and two salsas.

Well, the salsas were not very fresh and more than a little odd.  The chips, while nicely crisp and not at all greasy, had clearly been fried in oil that was long past its fresh date.

Our margaritas came and I could smell the artificial ingredients when they were placed on the table.  They were a bit neon-y in color and tasted VERY much too sweet.  Not very good.

We ended up ordering two appetizers, somewhat because the people were very nice and we felt guilty not doing so..

The apps were just all right.....we won't be going back, what with all of the other better options in the TC.

We really enjoyed our meals. I had the chicken chipotle/sour cream (#70). My husband had a beef dish that was VERY hot, but not so much that he could not enjoy it. Great service - though the waiter did not know what "pop" or "soda" was and he did not bring water until we asked for the check. We will go back!

We had a party of 4 and everyone loved their food. This is definitely one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Twin Cities. I don't live near, but I will be back!!

My favorite thing about this place is their margaritas.  I prefer the peach, but have tried the regular and raspberry ones as well and they are always so damn good.  My boyfriend and I have tried all the vegetarian items on the menu, my favorite being the fajitas.  He loves the tamales and the enchiladas.  The quesadilla I had the last time we were there was packed with veggies but a bit too cheesy for my taste.  So cheesy that I couldn't really taste the vegetables even.  That is my one and only complaint about El Tejaban. Everything else I have had has been delicious and to my liking.  Other than the great margaritas, another plus is that you get free chips with in-house made salsas.  So good.  The service is great, the drinks are yum and the food is tasty and reasonably priced.

Good. Reasonably priced. Seemingly authentic. But not spectacular.

Sooo... good, not great. Our server was really nice. Our drinks took a while to come out (on a slow night) and it had me wondering if he had to make the drinks himself. Not a big deal, though -- my peach daiquiri was super yummy.

We had an appetizer of little fried meat-filled potato things (molotes?) which were good, very rich. My boyfriend ate a HUGE burrito and I had just a side of enchilada with rice.

My enchilada was so-so. I don't think my expectations are that high -- most enchiladas at restaurants in Iowa have been great, but this was just fine. The rice was not good - wouldn't have it again.

I had a couple small bites of my boyfriend's burrito and that was good! He really liked it.

This place is awesome!  Great food, really nice service, and 2 for 1 beers and margaritas!  Since discovering this place a few months ago, it has definitely become one of my "regulars".  Highly recommended!

This is the best Mexican restaurant I have found in MN. First of all, El Tejaban serves micheladas, which I haven't been able to find anywhere since moving back to the area. They are basically spicy bloody marys made with beer instead vodka. The seasoning blend they use for them is amazing. Second, the two salsas they serve with the tortilla chips are made in-house (no Pace Picante going on here) and have a good kick to them. Third, they have a huge menu. If you're not in the mood for the standard quesadillas, burritos, etc, you can have a more authentic dish, like octopus and white fish ceviche, or their infamous molcajete. My husband and I had the shrimp ceviche and pork tamales and ate every single bite with not a grain of rice or black bean to spare. Lastly, the service was great, super friendly and about midway through our meal, a 3-piece Mexican band started playing! It was unexpectedly amazing and fun!

Yelp let me down. El Tejaban was a disappointment.

I had the "three amigos" enchiladas on Nov. 8, 2010, and I have had so many better enchiladas elsewhere, I doubt I will be back. The filling was so-so, and the one with mole sauce was so bitter I actually could not take a second bite. My companion had the torta, which came with some sort of battered french fries (weird!). He seemed to like the torta all right.

The service was good. I just wish I had ordered something more palatable. The chips were good and salty, and the salsa was nice, too.

I was hoping this would be a great place to eat in Richfield. I'll keep looking.

I had been to El Tejaban a couple times in the past and had ended up having one too many tequila shots, so I had been avoiding the place. However, I accompanied two hungry guys recently and we order the Molcajete...a huge, saucy pot of pulled pork, chorizo, grilled steak, and an assortment of grilled vegetables. It came complete with a huge side of rice and beans and corn tortillas. This dish is billed as serving 2-3 people, but it could have easily fed four or even five...pretty great for the $32 price tag. It was a delicious, unique shared dining experience.

Also, El Tejaban makes some of the best micheladas I've had in the Twin Cities, using clamato juice and not skimping on the condiments.

Great ambiance with good music, decor, knowledgeable wait staff.

    MAJUH surprise.

After reading rave reviews for La Perla down the street I honestly expected El Tejeban to be a completely second rate hole in the wall (and not the good kind) with awful food.  Like I said, BIG surprise.  From the non-crowded atmosphere to the waiter that was so sweet and had unbelievable timing, my husband and I found ourselves saying several times during our meal "well, looks like we've found our place".  Oh yes, did anymore mention that they have 2 for 1 beer and house margaritas ALL DAY?  Mmm Hmm!  The icing on the cake is that they're open until 4am Friday through Sunday, so I already have visions of late nights ending just the way they should - with delicious Mexican food.

The prices are pretty run of the mill, the drinks are great and the overall experience was much greater than expected.  Granted, I have a sneaking suspicion that every time we eat here it will not go as well, but if it's half as great a night as tonight it'll still be better than La Perla.
