Service from hell..
We were a group of 8 hungry people who had been traveling all day for a business trip to Concord. To wrap it all into a nutshell: food didn't come out to taste the way it sounded on the menu (not enough flavor, too salty, nothing special), someone ordered their special of the day and they ran out of it without telling her, ran out of a certain bottled beer and took forever to come back and ask if he wanted something else, waitress mistook a plate of food for something else and was about to give it to somebody else at our table, bill took forever to come back to us.
We just wanted to get out of there and sleep this nightmare off at the hotel across the street. What we really should've done was stayed at the Claim Jumper which was our original plan, but we thought the atmosphere at Elephant Bar would be nice to have as our first dinner out in town.
I don't really care to visit another Elephant Bar. The food was not good for the price you have to pay anyway.
O've come here two time. Once for a dinner celebration with my nursing school clinical group (9 people). and another time on a date. I thought that they did a great job all around.
The service was great. They were attentive to our needs by getting drinks in a timely manner and serving our food all at once. Everyone enjoyed their food. I thought my food was tasty. The description on the menu was accurate. I ordered the pork ribs on one visit. They were tender and I had some left to go. another time I had coconut shrimp, it was what I expected. I wouldn't say that it was anything absolutely amazing. Just good food and good environment and good service. Â It is also a place you can dress causal or dress up a little. I would come back to this place. I thought it was a great place for a group or also a date.
This review is unfair because it is based on the takeout. Do not ever order the ribeye with coconut shrimp to go because what you will get is the inside of a shoe and plain jumbo shrimp. Disgusting. Whatever you do always order fried foods from here because its really hard to mess that up.
Review Source:I would consider the Elephant bar as a slightly more upscale Apple bee's OR Chili's restaurant the food is a bit better as is the decor as well prices are very reasonable, great for groups, They manage to keep the place pretty clean considering the hi customer volume they seem to have quite regularly, which also is testament that the place is decent .
Review Source:Party of 2- seated in the bar. It took a while for someone to come over. We asked for menus twice and ended up retrieving one from the host ourselves. Our appetizer came with our meal. Coffee refill took 3 requests and our water was never refilled. The food was fine but again I had to get up and walk to the kitchen for my side of ranch because my first request was ignored. If you have lots of time and don't mind asking 2-3 times for drinks or sides, this is the place to go. I was sadly disappointed as the Dublin Elephant Bar never leaves me hungry or thirsty. I'll stick to Dublin.
Review Source:This one's a real yawner. Â At least the food is edible.
I've been a few times now, once on a date in Fremont, and once many years later with my hunny's retail worker buddies (I was the only male there, arrrrrgh!). Â Then last night. Â And I was reminded why it's not a place I itch to eat at.
Elephant Bar tries this whole African Safari theme, but it's awfully subtle inside. Â More of a bar in the middle surrounded by booths. Â So dark you can barely see who you're with. Â Food selection is normal American grub (does this make them African-American? Â Har!) with lots of drinks, prices are middle-of-the-road. Â The taste was fine, but not something to write home to mother about. Â A good friend of mine once mentioned that this location has had trouble with the Health Department.
Basically, they try to be special, and they're not. Â Not a place to avoid, but you can do better.
Interesting name and interesting inside, but that's about where interesting ends and decent food begins. I'm not sure what all the hype is about - the bar area is large and typically too noisy for me, but you will not get what you pay for here. Though it's not the most expensive place to eat - I left disappointed. I can't go above 3 stars on this one because the restrooms were a bit messy!
Review Source:I came here last night for their late happy hour. I haven't been a huge fan of Elephant Bar in years due to some rumors I've heard as well as not caring much for any of their entrees. BUT I forgot how damn cheap and good the Happy Hour is and I like that there is a second happy hour for night owls like myself! Met up with one of my gf;s and for $4 the Mai Tai's are AMAZING! The food was decent, around $5-6 a plate for chicken tenders that are breaded soooo good to dip in honey mustard dip and Korean Taco's were decent. I didn't care for the Salmon Roll, it just didn't taste right but hey, they're not a sushi restaurant.
Review Source:Place is ok. Â I like their global sampler, however every time I go there (and I've been there a few times) they always seem to mess up the order.
if you ask for no onions on your burger ... you're bound to get extra onions on your burgers. Â
Otherwise, the place is clean, service could be a bit more attentive, but on the up side, the mocktail drinks are pretty good.
I'm sad I have to give this place a one star review. This USE to be one of our favorite places to eat whenever we were in the Concord area. We've always loved the atmosphere and the food. Truthfully, we haven't been to the Elephant Bar for at least a year. Just don't get out there as often as we like. But as we soon found out, we were in for a rude awakening, for more than one reason.
We had an appointment in Concord at the car dealership and wound up being there for 4 hours. Needless to say we were starving since we hadn't eaten anything all day. So, we decided to go to the Elephant Bar to treat ourselves to one of our favorite meals . A teriyaki stir fry with chicken and veggies over white rice garnished with strips of fried wonton wrappers. Always been one of our favorite dishes there. Â We arrived at the Elephant Bar and were seated by a friendly hostess who also handed us our menus as we sat down. The time: 1:05. I would like to say we had the delicious lunch we were so looking forward to, but I can't. First of all our favorite dish was no longer on the menu, which really disappointed us. And secondly, we sat there until 1:25 and no one approached us. No water, no silverware, no napkins, no nothing. We didn't even see a server on the floor we could wave down. We were so frustrated and irritated we got up and left. The hostess who seated us saw us leaving and asked why. We told her we were hungry, it wasn't that busy, yet we were never even approached by a server in the 20 minutes we sat there. She just kind of laughed and said "oh sorry". No attempt to get us to stay or find out why we had been ignored. She just held the door open for us and said goodbye. I got the feeling that this was not the first time this had happened.
We definitely were disappointed the dish we wanted was no longer on the menu, but we would have found an alternative if someone had approached us to take our order. But, we were also shocked to see how expensive the Elephant Bar had become. The prices have really jumped up. Not just a couple of dollars either but a significant increase. They had a similar dish to the one we wanted but with a sweet and sour sauce instead of the teriyaki but it cost much more. We figured out that had we ordered the lunch we wanted, a small side salad and an order of bread for my husband we would've spent, without drinks, tax or tip, about $40. Adding drinks (And I mean sodas not alcoholic drinks), tax and tip would've put it close to a $60 lunch for a little bit of stir fry over rice and a small salad. Way too expensive. They are going to price themselves right out of business. We noticed  they were not very busy as it was. It's too bad, because in this economy, we have to be careful where we spend our money and it looks like Elephant Bar won't be one of those places anymore
I would give zeros stars if possible. Went to elephant bar tonight because we had a gift card; Worst mistake ever.
First: Â while the waitress was at first nice and friendly, she didn't know the menu at all, and with every question we seemed to ask her she got more and more frazzled. Â
Second: the kitchen was out of the entree j ordered which was the wok steak and jumbo shrimp which was fine because they offered me the ribeye steak with jumbo shrimp at the same price...or so we thought. When the bill came they had charged me the full price for the ribeye entree which was $10 more expensive than what i had ordered at first, not to mention the steak was mostly fat and the shrimp were cooked far too long.
Third: they got my husbands order completely wrong, brought him the wrong dinner. He ordered a full rack of ribs but was delivered a half rack with a side of chicken. Once he received his correct order he said the ribs were good.
The manager offered us a dessert on the house, which was a nice gesture for how bad the night was going, but then when we went to pay the bill they completely disregarded our gift card and charged the full balance to our credit card.
We WON'T be going back.
Good happy hour, large lunch and dinner menus full of choices and never disappointed in the food. Â Prices seem to keep going up but that's typical today of most places! Â
Recently went in for dinner while in the area. Â Promptly greeted, seated and served by waitress named Lilly. She was friendly, efficient and kept our drinks full. Â We had delicious calamari, not too chewy or greasy at all. Â We also had the garlic bread with marinara which turned out to be a bit disappointing with barely any garlic or garlic flavor. Â Salads were fresh and crisp, as was the mahi mahi I had and my companions asian stir-fry shrimp/chicken dish that I dont remember the name of.
Normally when I dine here it's not a planned destination just in the area and looking for a place to go. Â But each time I'm happy with the food, variety and service.
I don't understand the negative reviews here. The decor is thrilling, IMO, I really really like all the accessories and the lighting and the fans of this place. It really lives up to its name and the kids love going here, and so do I.
Happy hour is cheap here, they have a good size bar area, and TVs are plentiful, so it's a fun place to bring friends here, no question. This place is almost always busy during dinner time. But -1 star for the wait. It's not that all the tables are used because there are so many open tables, but not enough waiter/tress. Why don't you hire more people so we don't have to wait 20-30 minutes to be served when there are many families waiting to be seated?
Otherwise, i like the food here. A bit pricey, and I remember just a year and a half ago the prices are not as steep as they are today. I usually get salmon, pasta, or lamb here. The portions of food is generous and the waiter are all very friendly and patient. All the times I've been here, though there are always kids screaming! Why don't you let them touch the walls with all the fake animals? Then maybe they won't be screaming so much.
The lighting is really dim, I understand it's part of the ambiance, but really? It is too dark in some areas of the restaurants, especially if you sit by the booths in the back, by the restroom. Otherwise, I really like coming here, been here a few times a year and never a terrible experience, and always happy with the food here and the drinks also. People, stop being so darn critical!!!
We eat at the Elephant Bar maybe twice a year, max. Â It is almost never a destination for us, just a fall back place to eat when we can't decide on anywhere else to eat and are driving in the area. Â Having said that, I think the community has been a bit harsh on the place. Â If it had just a little bit more character and a bit better food I think it would consistently rank as being 4 stars. Â I rate it as a 3.5 but will allow it to show as a 4.0. Â
The Elephant Bar is a decent place with a cozy and attractive atmosphere which serves above average food at reasonable prices (roughly $15 on average). Â It just isn't super special. Â This is a large restaurant, I bet it can seat over 200 people comfortably including the lounge. It is dimly lit, however, and so once you are seated you feel like you have privacy. Â The downside to this is that you might feel overlooked if your server is not on the ball. Â
Their menu is quite creative and fairly extensive with a broad range of salads, burgers, meat and seafood dishes. Â As you might suspect given the name "Elephant Bar," they try to put an exotic spin on their dishes (i.e. "Thai-High Chicken Stir Fry" and "MisoYaki Fire Grilled Salmon")
Tonight we tried some more mundane dishes, namely:
Lamb Shanks - Served on a bed of mashed potatoes with a side of stir fried veggies the lamb was fork-tender. Â It was decently executed but not spectacular, a bit on the bland side for my taste. Â 3.5 stars.
Chicken Marsala - Pretty standard, comparable to Olive Garden's only cheaper. Â Again, a bit on the bland side. Â 3.5 stars.
Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger - There was not enough bacon and the patty was overcooked. Â 3.0 stars.
Service was quick, polite, and attentive however my experience here is that the servers here tend not to be the sharpest knives in the block.
We will be back, maybe in 6 to 9 months?
Post Script: Â I noticed from the rating details that the reviews have been heading steadily downward for the past few months. Â I wonder if this is because of the winter darkness making the place seem dingy? Â Maybe management should increase the lighting???
I really want to like this place, I do. The environment is nice. Great atmosphere. Now if only their food was better. I've been here way too many times hoping that maybe, just maybe the food has improved. Spoiler alert, it hasn't! The only good appetizer is the sweet potato fries, as someone else mentioned calamari is so rubbery I wonder if i'm eating plastic play food. I usually go for the surf and turf route but I could hardly get one bit ripped off of my mystery meat of a steak so I tried the basic orange shrimp and rice, not a fan. On the upside, the service is always good and the drinks rule. Maybe if you get drunk enough you can choke down the awful food but I recommend not being a repeat offender and visiting this place more than once, less than that would be optimal.
Review Source:My in laws wanted to meet here as a half way point to have dinner. Â My father in law likes it because they serve Asian food. Â I did not like it. Â It's noisy, huge, and the food wasn't very good. Â Stars for service, the wait staff were helpful and on the ball, but the food was terrible.
We ordered sweet potato fries and calamari as appetizers. Â The calamari was like chewing rubber bands, and not at all sharing friendly, with a very oily "slaw" on top, that was really just julienned carrots and what appeared to be zucchini. Â The sweet potato fries were soggy and cold.
Dinner didn't get much better. Â My french dip was salty without the au jus, with it the sandwich was inedible. Â My husband's steak sandwich was ordered medium rare, it came out well done. Â He said it was as tasty as a leather shoe. Â The three kids with us picked at their plates. Â
It's mass produced food, but somehow Cheesecake Factory, and even Applebee's, seems to do it better. Â I wouldn't go back.
Decent happy hour, friendly service--just my kinda place to hang out and catch up with friends on a random night :) Just make sure you're ready to swoop in once people get up from their tables or seats at the bar.
We went to their second daily happy hour that happens from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. (close), and after waiting for about 20 minutes for a spot, managed to snag a table (though we had our pick of the litter once 10 p.m. hit). We ordered a tonnnnn of food and drink, and managed to only spend less than $60 between the three of us, including tip.
Highlights from the happy hour included the mai tai ($4), sushi and mac & cheese. I could've done without the tasteless artichoke dip, and the sweet potato fries and edamame were standard fare.
I think I might even prefer this HH over Stanford's in Walnut Creek, but only time will tell...
It was a cool place to watch game 6 of the Giants vs Cardinals.
Went with some friends, two of us split the bill for $25 per person. Each had a sangria (5.50), large beer (7.25), split a regular fry (2.50), sweet potato fry (3.50), I had myself a mashed potato with gravy (1.95) and we split a mud pie (which was absolutely delicious).
Go Giants!
The Elephant Bar is a mostly suburban, mostly California based theme restaurant chain that sort of fit into the TGIFriday's space after Flare was no longer hip (re: Office Space, the movie. Blame it on Jennifer Aniston, pre-Friends!), and Potato Skins with cheese smothered on them were replaced by Wok stirred fried rice with pan-seared ahi tuna.
They replaced all the junk on the walls by TGIFridays and replaced it with a clean, dark wood, but somehow tropical decor more reminiscent of PF Chang's, that wonderful authentic (cough!) Chinese themed restaurant based in Scottsdale, Arizona. (No, the Transcontinental Railway, built on the backs of thousands of immigrant Chinese, did not go through Phoenix)
In fact, you might say The Elephant Bar is PF Chang's meets The Cheesecake Factory, minus the Cheesecake, with a little Olive Garden thrown in the mix. Their is an eclectic range of choices, with the specialty plates predominately Pan-Asian, but you can have Burgers (Think Red Robin's) or Italian (The Olive Garden reference), or Salads (Ok, maybe a little Fresh Choice?).
Just like in TGIFriday's heyday when dental assistants could come and order a Sloe, Comfortable, Screw against the Wall, (Sloe Gin, Southern Comfort, Harvey Wallbanger) for happy hour, their kids can now come to The Elephant Bar and order a Skyy Vodka Raspberry Lemon Drop Martini.
This place is popular, because they know what most Americans like, which is large portions at reasonable prices, and their tuna seared, not raw. (Sorry Charlie!)
Happy Hours are M - F, Â 3p - 7p and again at 9p to closing.
There are about 20 locations in SoCal, about 15 in NorCal, and another dozen or so sprinkled in 5 other states.
Love it!!!!!!
So much to eat and drink at this restaurant and every time is a great experience.
I love going here for happy hour. Great drink prices and appetizers :)
The bar tender omg he's hot so that's also a plus. My coworkers and I go here after work to drink and relax and I always leave with a smile and a happy stomach afterwards.
The kalamari appetizer is sooo good along with their Mai tai yum!
Here we go again another place with really good ambiance.
Great variety in cocktails, the one I ordered was called a "jungle colada" and it was SOOOO DISAPPOINTING. They carded me for a drink that tasted close to a "virgin jungle colada" I barely tasted any rum in it. I even emailed them a suggestion about it , and they never responded back.
We usually come here pretty early for dinner, and it still takes a long time for our food to come. Their menu contains a variety of different dishes to try out, and you need to know what to order to have a good experience because I know for a fact some of their dishes aren't so great.
When I was there recently, I had a gardenburger that came with a salad. I could've sworn years ago they included guacamole to it. This time there was no condiments in the burger, and I just didn't feel like have ketchup with it. So I ended up eating it dry, which turned out to be ok.
Last year I ordered their oriental chicken salad, hours later it made me really sick and I think it was because they didn't clean the chicken thoroughly(which is always the case), hence it didn't agree with my stomach. The manager was kind enough to take care of me the next time I came there.
I like the elephants on the walls and the giraffe in the entryway. Yeah, I've mounted that thing... with prior approval (of course). I have proof. See picture.
I've been coming to the Elephant Bar for a while now. Good for groups. Good for families. Good for dates. Good for GNO's (Girls Night Out). I've always been satisfied.
Here is why:
- food never disappoints
- restaurant is esthetically pleasing to my eyes
- the giraffe is fun to mount
- food comes out quickly
- service is always excellent and staff is always on top of their game
A few of my go-to items:
- Quick Seared Ahi Tuna
- Crisp Iceberg Wedge Side Salad
- Citrus Side Salad
- Citrus Salad With Grilled Chicken
- Quick Seared Ahi Tuna Salad
Nice week night spot. Gets extremely busy on the weekends.
Ate there on 2/25/12. Â Food was mediocre - on the bland side and one of the dishes came with so little chicken in it I was very disappointed.. Â I submitted a complaint on the corporate website and never got a response. Â They obviously don't care about return customers so I won't be back.
Tricia in Pittsburg
This place used to be delicious! But now their food doesn't taste good anymore!
Not going back ever! Service is great but food is horrible! I ordered the appetizer lettuce wrap and it wasn't fully cooked. Made my stomach hurt and gave me diarrhea.
They need to change their cooks. It sad how it used to nice and delish! Now just crap!
Meh is right.
Food is just ok and I believe overpriced, bar is always irritatingly full and the service is mediocre. Last time we were there our server told us immedately after we were seated: Â "Just to let you know, we have another large party coming in after yours.....so we're kinda on a time limit here."
Wow. Ok. Not really my problem, but that's a great way to make a table of 18 sllloowwww dowwwwnnn.
God I hate that the gratuity is automatically added for large groups.
Despite the many negative reviews, Elephant Bar has some decent food-- you just have to look for it.
The menu is extensive, so certain items are better than others. For example, on one visit the tuna in my Ahi Salad could have been fresher. On another, the spinach artichoke dip tasted like it had a whole can of cream of mushroom soup in it. But I also really like the ribs and the spicy BBQ sauce... They're better than some ribs I've had at certain places in the East Bay who call themselves "authentic" barbeque restaurants.
And the bar has always been a focus here for good drinks and happy hour specials in a nice atmosphere. The bartenders always seem to be on top of their game... Friendly, efficient, and fast.
This place is pretty cool/chill. The noise level is alright, service is amazing; waitresses are real nice and active.
Okay, now to the bad part of this restaurant and why it is a one star. First, my french onion soup was nasty. It was literally soup mixed with salt and onion. My Caesar salad... was overpowered by cheese.. which was salty as well.. Overall, I am not satisify with anything except the good service..
Kudos to Elephant for the makeover to their menu. There was so many choices to choose from, even my sister couldn't decide what she wanted to order. I finally settled on their Fire Grilled Chicken with vegetables and brown rice (gluten-free). I was pleasantly surprised to the flavors and quality of food served to us. The service was definitely up to par with our very attentive server.
My only thing is the blast of AC through the restaurant and the very dim lights. I felt like I was eating in the dark. I know there is certain lighting that is mesaurable by patrons, but when I have to squint a little to see the menu that means its a wee bit too dark for my taste. And lastly, a little odd on the sitting arrangments. I guess being sat next to a beam was weird in sense.
