we went there for dinner last night. It was the day before Mother's day, so I did expect it to be busy. STILL they packed as many tables in as they could, with the distinct flavor of" we want to make as much money as possible" as opposed to "we want to oblige all these people wanting to dine with us". The chairs backed into other people, so unless you planned to sit until the resturant closed, you were going to hit another person just to get in and out of your seat. as i was takiing my coat off one guy came to put garlic oil in my plate but no one else's, and the waitress asked if we knew what we wanted to drink. mind you i hadn't even sat down yet. not even 3 minutes passed and she was back asking the same question. At this point i COULD have looked at the menu, but i was overwhelmed with the CROWD and the NOISE and the BUSTLING of everyone trying to maneuver through the tiny spaces left betwen tables. i was mesmerized by the waitress who had to have patrons get up form their seats so she could pass by to deliver food at the NEXT table over. it was like a freak show. The waitress then left us alone for 10 minutes before coming back to take our drink order. at this point i had asked random bus boys for a booster seat for my son 4 times. I said to her" it doesn't seem liek anyone has the time for us today" to which she took offense and said"you said you'weren't ready to place your drink orders so i left you alone" as if thats the first order of business. we had two children, both small, clearly a family needs to get situated before ordering. i was LIVID.  my sweetheart, being a gentleman, had to get up twice, once for a woman to pass to go to the restroom, again when she came back. Moving on to the food, he enjoyed his lasgane very much. I had the cheese and asparagus ravioli which was over cooked and i woudl never order again. we also had a caprese salad which was very mediocre. I expected MUCH better from a non-chain family run place. We won't go back..

Went here with my husband for lunch. The artwork was interesting. The service was ok, our waitress forgot to put in our appetizer. So I was bummed about that. The Gnocci was just okay. It was a little over cooked and the serving size was small. My husband ordered the baked penne and he received twice the serving I had. The women next to us ordered the lasagna and I heard them talking about how delicious it was.
I probably will never return to find out though.

The waiters were excellent, and the ambiance was very nice (formal enough for a nice date). However, the food was forgettable and boring. In particular, the entree (penne arrabiata) tasted very much like something I'd spend 10-15 minutes mindlessly preparing. For $20-30/person, I'd recommend Biaggi's or Amore Mio instead. Alternately, for $10/person, Pastabilities has better food (although a very informal ambiance).

Long Grove should be a great spot I think its past its prime though
My wife and I went to Enzo after we quickly left the Cedar Grill(smelled bad)
This restaurant has seen better days and it shows
Management you might want to repair your front stairway as a brick was loose, or wait till someone trips on it and well you get sued.
Another place for older people restaurant rather out of date
Actually the food I had Chicken Marsala was ok not bad not great , they also had a good crusty bread
However the waitress was hmmm apathetic , I am always surprised when you go to a restaurant and you are barely greeted , would a hello welcome how are you be so tough to offer people?
It s no wonder restaurants particularly like these have been going out of business
No real reason to spend your money here , I would rather go to Maggianos or maybe Olive Garden?

Wow...I am a bit surprised to read several of these reviews based on my experience last night but to each his own. I arrived a little early and trusted the bartender to set me up with a nice glass of red while I waited for my party to arrive. He served me two excellent choices and I continued to trust him throughout service and he always delivered. The peppers and sausage appetizer is really old world and the peppers could not have been sweeter.  My date (granddaughter) had stuffed pork chops that she loved (on a recommendation from the server) and I dined on a full striped bass fileted tableside and served with a light wine sauce. It was nice to taste the fish without getting punished by a heavy handed cream sauce ...Really well done

We finished off the evening splitting a yummy Tiramisu with coffee ...great evening

Enzo &Lucia's is quaint, casual, and as authentic Italian as I have had. I think you will like it

Do not order pollo Marsala. Brown gravy with marsala would taste better. Home made ravioli taste good but looked awful. Bread was fantastic. Child's fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp was good but only 3 shrimp for $10. My wife sent the chicken back. They would not take it off the bill. The owner Lucia yelled at me that I did not know what it should taste like. She said that because her husband made it and was from Italy it had to be good. Not used to being called an idiot by a owner. I have never been treated so poorly by a restaurant. I mean yelling at a patron. Robert Irvine of Restaurant Impossible would fail here.

Wish I could do better then 2 stars but don't think I can. This is my second time there and most likely the last. Ordered mussel's with linguini with white garlic sauce. I read from many posters all of the garlic and bread that was being served up..I requested extra garlic in my sauce because I had remembered that I had ordered the same dish years before and there was not even a hint of garlic in the sauce. Well, the same applied with this dish. Bland, is how I would describe it. I squeezed lemon over the dish and it helped bring some flavor to it but all in all really, really bland. Ok now the salad...how does one have the nerve to serve a salad that already has mushy greens in it? I always have my dressing on the side so it was not wilted because of the dressing. It looked like it was just about ready to go! My husband ordered a MGD beer and after we left he told me that it had expired. I never knew there was an expiration date on bottles of beer..apparently not a high turnover! Lastly, the putrid smelling water they serve on the tables. Good grief, splurge and serve bottled water to your guests if it stinks that bad. And yes as one poster said, the bathrooms smell like a sewer. Well, that is exactly how the table water smelled. Everyone told them to take the glasses from the table and me being a water drinker I ordered a bottled water. Our server never even brought us bread and butter. When I saw that it was on the other tables I mentioned it to someone and only then did they bring us any. And once the sparse amount was gone no one offered anymore:) The Italian food at Olive Garden is 100% better and fresher then this place. This was very mediocre Italian food.

Lastly, very pricey for what you get.

When I normally go to a restaurant, I'm going for the food.  Ambiance is important, but it's the food that has to be the selling point.

Having said that, I think that the food here is actually nothing special: good, clean Italian food with an extensive menu.  It's a bit overpriced, sure.  But this place has a lot of nostalgia for me, since my grandma and I have been coming here for over ten years.

I LOVE Long Grove Historic Village, and have been coming to LG since I was eight or so.  I had one of my birthdays at the Chocolate festival here.  My fiancé proposed to me in the park by the river.  In short, Long Grove has a lot of memories for me.

Enzo & Lucia's is a lovely reminder of what Long Grove tries to be - historic and authentic, but slightly muddled over time.

We went to E&L for the second time this weekend.  Much like our first experience, we found the food  good, but at the high price end.  While sharing a plate would have been plenty, be fore-warned that there is an additional fee for that.  The ambiance is quite nice and fits well into the theme of Long Grove, although the tables for two are quite small.  Our main complaint on this day, unfortunately, was regarding customer relations.  Not the service, as the waitress was quite attentive..  However, when a minor billing dispute needed clarification, the owner (chef's wife) was unnecessarily brusque and accusatory.  We left offended and will not return.  For the price paid, there are plenty of other restaurants that know  to treat their patronage politely.

First time at E&L's and found it to be absolutely excellent.  What a find!
The menu itself boasts an abundance of Italian dishes but in addition there were about a dozen specials.  I found all the prices to be very reasonable. I had the best chicken vesuvio on the bone that I've had anywhere, and I've eaten this dish at a lot of Italian restaurants. My caesar salad was very tasty with an abundance of crisp romaine, flavorful dressing, and toasted croutons.  Desert was a very good choc gelato.  Furthermore, our server could not have been better.  Mary Jo anticipated our every need and was johnny-on-the-spot.  We'll ask for her again!  There are a lot of tables in the dining room but we could still carry on a conversation without shouting.   All in all an excellent restaurant.  I'll be back!

My friends and I went here on a Saturday for a late lunch/early dinner. The place was pretty empty, and when we walked in it was confusing as to where we go to get seated. After going up the stairs, we were seated promptly, and after just sitting down we were asked if we were ready to order. Of course we were not since it was our first time at this place so they left to give us time. We looked at the menus and picked our choices, and after chatting for a bit, we realized that no one had come yet to take our order, we decided to wait 5 more minutes.
After 5 minutes passed, we got up since we were ready to leave, a lady asked "oh, you guys didn't find anything on the menu you liked?"
We said, "It's not that, it's just that no one took our order"
AND SHE SAID NOTHING AS WE WALKED OUT
There was no apology or anything! The place wasn't even a quarter full!
The customer service here disgusted me and I'll probably never try this place again!

Number one best thing:  Our server went around the restaurant periodically with sauteed garlic and red pepper in a bowl for dipping.  YUM.

For those looking to eat light - the salads are a joke.

You'll pay something like ten dollars for lettuce with a tomato slice.

HOWEVER - my server was kind enough to add raw vegetables to my salad which made it somewhat filling.

However - don't try ordering sides of veggies to fill up an empty salad bowl - it's like $6.50 for broccoli.  Not even 'organic' - which could potentially make up for this.

That's the main problem with the restaurant - it's trying to charge five-star but it's just more of a family restaurant.  Just because you charge exorbitant prices for regular fare doesn't make you extraordinary.

They are priced too too high for what you get.

We ordered the conch for an appetizer which was outstanding.

We have a hard time cooking it too much or too little at home but this was cooked just right in a delicious rich sauce but not too buttery - as conch is sometimes served like traditional escargot which translates terribly with such a large snail as conch.  This conch - much like real French escargot, eh? - was spiced just enough to be scrumptious without taking away from enjoying the actual meat.

My husband gobbled up the soup of the day - a spinach egg drop- and loved it.

He also had a version of a Chicken Parmesan - breaded chicken that basically oozed with butter sauce vs. marinara and mozzarrella topping.

He wasn't terribly impressed - I thought it was tasty but more than three or four bites would have been tough - for most.

The bread on the table was HOT.  Loved that.

The server was very nice - although you feel like you're in somebody's sitting room because the restaurant is so small and a bit dark.

I kept thinking how lovely it'd have been to have the picture above our corner table lit up.

The group next to us was cussing like crazy and it was kind of low class - but we were so close that we couldn't just tune them out.

Love Love Love this place! I live close by in Arlington Heights and never thought to go there. Then during a trip to Long Grove for Apple Fest we stopped in (there was no room at the Village Tavern). While we had a large group of 8, we were treated like royalty and seated in the kitchen.

The last kitchen restaurant I ate in was Charlie Trotters and while this was not gourmet like that, I enjoyed this experience much much more. It was fun and the food delicious. I had a simple cheese ravioli in a marinara. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the sauce was so fresh I thouhgt I was eating a tomato and the icing on the cake??? The homemade Tiramisu was fabulous! I highly recommend this as an end to your fantastic meal.

Holiday lunch with the folks from work. They were very accommodating to our group - we even got individual checks, which I thought was just stellar.

I had the chicken marsala, which was good but not great. The grilled veggies on the side left quite a bit to be desired in terms of both quantity and quality, though. The minestrone soup was very nice and clearly homemade.

    I wish I could give 3.75 stars.

    PROS
    *  This place, like most of the spots in Long Grove, in quaint and cute. The ambiance was cozy and clean. The space was not noisy and you could have a conversation when the restaurant was full without having to raise your voice.
    * The food was good and the menu had a lot of options. Nothing complicated, but overall fresh, satisfying and tasty.
    *  I enjoyed the garlic/onion/tomato garnish for the bread. It is strong-tasting, but also unique. (I love garlic)
    * Well-portioned

    CONS
    * A bit pricey for uncomplicated, not-quite authentic Italian fare. For 3 people with no add-ons (drinks, appetizers, dessert, etc) it was $65 without tip.

Ate here after visiting the Apple Haus.  Nothing BAD to say but nothing really memorable either.  My son's "kids" ravioli came looking EXACTLY like the adult pasta dish... and neither had memorable flavor.  The salads were ok and the minestrone tasted the same as many others.  The service was great.

Enzo & Lucia was okay. I wanted them to be GREAT! We were at the Apple Fest and wanted a sit down restaurant where we could relax after walking around all day. I give them that. The atmosphere was nice, but overall, it is not a very good value. My goddaughter was with us and ordered a Sprite. It was a fountain drink that came in the tiniest cocktail glass ever and they were not on the ball with soda refills. Our pasta specials were nice, but not really good. We paid for "really good" pasta.  Not that it was bad, it just did not pack a punch and the portions were fairly small.

One other note - I paid to eat in the restaurant, I do not want to share the washroom with face painted balloon toting kids coming in from the festival with moms asking if their kids can go ahead of us. The restrooms should be for patrons ONLY.

I found the food to be very mediocre.  I would rather go to edison park for good Italian food or the long grove cafe if eating in long grove.  Staff is nice.

I am really surprised to see mediocre ratings for E&L because I've thoroughly enjoyed the food on each and every visit.  Maybe it's best enjoyed at off-peak hours and when you have leisure to relax.  The service is slow, but the food is authentic, very tasty.

I'm always trying to find a good Italian restaurant close to home, so I thought we would try Enzo's.  I guess I'll still be looking.  The food wasn't very good and the prices were too high for what you got.

Along with the bread they server oil with fresh garlic for dipping.  I'm not shy when it comes to garlic, but I tried just a little and was still tasting it the next morning. I'd recommend skipping it altogether if you were on a date.  We started with the grilled Calamari, which was seasoned nicely but rubbery.  I opted the Frutti di mare and my boyfriend got the Linguine w/clams.  Both the mussels and clams were overcooked to the point that there was almost nothing left in the shells.  The pasta and sauce was average and not enough to save the dinner.  Getting the bill didn't help either.  Who wants to pay close to a hundred dollars and leave hungry.

Decent. Came here on a snowy December afternoon a few days before Christmas and sat by the gas fireplace. Pretty cozy - we were the only ones there. Ordered tutto peche for an appetizer (grilled squid, octopus, shrimp) and split the veal Marsala which was pretty good. We spent a while there talking over a bottle of the house Chianti.Overall it was a little on the high side for average Italian food but it's in historic Long Grove, so it's expected.

i hate to write a bad review of this place, but boy, it was really a let-down.  my brother had his wedding rehearsal dinner here 6 years ago and i remember the food being pretty damn good, so i was excited to return.

we made reservations for christmas eve dinner.  upon arrival, the dining room was full but not bursting at the seams or anything.  chaotic and loud would be the best way to describe the atmosphere.  there were busboys literally sprinting up and down the stairs practically plowing down patrons who happened to be in their way.  the host kept frantically running back and forth, and lucia, one of the owners, was behind the bar talking in an insanely loud and obnoxious voice.  this all happened while we were waiting to be seated.  i didn't have a good feeling based on my first 5 minutes in the door, but decided to give it a chance...

unfortunately, the food was just so-so.  not worth the price tag, that's for sure.  we ordered the tutto pesce alla griglia appetizer to start out.  the shrimp was good, the octopus was average, but the calamari was way too chewy and rubbery.  for dinner, i decided on the pollo piccata.  sadly, the chicken was thin and completely drowned in oil, while the side of vegetables was charred beyond recognition and barely edible.   the sauce on the side of pasta was bland.  ragu has more of a kick.  my fiance ordered the lasagna, which he reports was unremarkable and not as good as his mother's (or mine for that matter.)

our server was cordial, but not overly friendly.  she brought us a complementary plate of cantaloupe and oranges at the end of the meal (which was a nice touch) and she asked if we would like dessert.  my mom replied, "no thank you, this is our dessert".  the waitress was not pleased.  she gave my mom a dirty look, practically rolled her eyes, and just walked away.  wow.

oh, and i can't forget the bathrooms, but i wish i could.  one word: gross.  they seriously need to renovate them, because i've seen cleaner toilets in dive bars.  the whole downstairs hallway smelled like sewage, too.

don't think i'll be back any time soon.

I went here for the first time with my sister and mom to check it out as a possible venue to have my bridal shower.  Before I even walked in, I fell in love with the charming Victorian House this restaurant was nestled in.  It's in the historic downtown Long Grove, which I love!  We ordered a bunch of things, just go get a taste of what kind of food they have, and if it's fresh.  I am super picky when it comes to Italian food, so there are a few standards that I have to eat in order for it to be a winner for me!  We ordered fried calamari, homemade gnochhi with a vodka sauce, veal milanese, Pollo alla Enzo, espresso, and capuccino.  The fried calamari was great, the gnocchi was to die for, it literally melts in your mouth, it has got to be the FRESHEST gnocchi I have ever had!!!! The vodka sauce was perfectly balanced with marinara, cream and vodka.  The veal and the chicken were also amazing, which was expected.  Lucia, one of the owners came and sat with us for a really long time to go over my bridal shower options.  She was so personable and honest, which is what I really appreciated about her.  We had a blast with her, she was just hysterical.  She treated us to her homemade tiramisu (OMG) and she gave my mom a 6 pack of gassosa directly from Italy, which made my mom cry because it brought back memories of her childhood.  All in all, a great experience!!  I still have more places to check out for my shower, but I will definitely go back to Enzo and Lucia's and tell all of my friends about it!!
