I'm pretty good with dive bars and can deal with skeevy, but honestly Erin's tops them all. The clientele is okay, depending on the day. It seems like the more I go the more the older people get replaced with stumbling drunk and vomiting 21 year olds. That is definitely a turn off because I don't go there to hear the college guys try to out drink each other while the girls flay all around because they're so drunk, I go to have a drink and enjoy my time.
I think this new atmosphere has a lot to do with the new younger staff that has been brought in. It's very obvious that the people sitting at the bar drinking are friends of these bartenders. Which translates into another problem: crappy service because they're too busy taking shots with their friends and laughing at their drunk friend stumbling around.
Erin's serves bar food, not that I will ever eat it because their oven looks like it hasn't been cleaned since it opened. The pot that they keep their chili in is crusted over with old chili and induces vomiting. I regret sitting in front of their food prep area because I was just grossed out.
The only thing Erin's has going for it is their St. Patrick's Day celebration, which is the only reason it gets an extra star.
What a great place to have some drinks and people-watch. The crowd on a Friday night is enough to make the place feel fun, but the bartenders hustle and there's not too bad of a wait for drinks. Also, they run karaoke, which is fun to watch, and with enough liquid courage, I can be persuaded to make a fool of myself with the microphone. It's all good, though, you can't take yourself too seriously, especially at a low key place like this where the crowd is made up of soldiers, locals, fat drunk chicks, cowboys, and every walk of life on Earth. The reference may be lost on most, but being here reminds me of the karaoke scene from David Byrne's 'True Stories.' Anyone?
