I work in this area and when I am feeling lazy I find that this is my go-to place for lunch.
Yes the food isn't the greatest, but it's decent and it's cheap. You can usually get a lunch special for about 5 bucks.
I like the Egg Foo Young and the Szechwan Chicken.
I would generally stay away from any of their beef entrees because they are pretty chewy and funny thing about me is that I don't like beefy jello.
Staff is extremely friendly.
General Tso's extra spicy is always yummy. Â Love the fried dumplings, but the REAL reason I go here is for the Won Ton Soup. Â Get the large for $3. Â Tons of big won tons, carrots, cabbage, green onions, and pork strips. Â Nom nom nom! Â Remember to call ahead though because they can be a little slow.
Review Source:Staff friendly food is great. One time I needed help translating something into Chinese to a third party over the phone. They were kind enough to help me do that even though their restraunt was busy. The prices are great here too. Its just a little space they have to sit but I still give them five stars for the excellent customer service and end product / pricing! If they keep up the good work they will be in a larger place soon!

Review Source:Never writen a review online, but I need others to know...
I used to like this place, started telling everyone about this cheap local place, with fast Delivery. But, over the years it has not been the same. We have been ordering from here of about 7 years. So when the order is wrong, chicken is dry...You say that they are having a bad day. I can no longer over look the down hill food & service. I went to pick up food & the place was dirty, chairs ripped and duck taped over. You leave grateful that they deliver so that you do not see that every time. Then, last week we ordered food to be delivered, knew that they were busy. After an hour, called to make sure they had the correct address, was told ten minutes he was on his way. Half hour later the deliver called, said he was at Addison which is FIVE blockes aways was told it would be ten more minutes. After waiting that long what do you say but OK. Â Twenty minutes later we called for an update, was told the driver went back, said we did not want it.... REALLY!!! You wait TWO HOURS, to find out that they are not going to deliver your food. NEVER even apologized... So if you want to take a chance that they are havin a "good" day, go ahead and doll the dice. I will be eating around the corner at a more consistent Chinese place.
I expected a better experience based on the reviews, but to me this was a okay place for cheap chinese food. Â I'd give it two and a half stars if I could. Â
I ordered the cashew chicken and egg drop soup. Â Having waitressed at a mom and pop Chinese place in college, I have an eye for good Chinese and this wasn't the freshest stir fry I have experienced. Â Again - not bad, just cheap, and not a value as you are basically getting what you paid for.
I will have to note the Egg Drop Soup not good at all. Â My first spoonful tasted like vinegar and I didn't go back for more. Â Since it was only $2, I just am not too upset about it, but doubt I will ever make it back to this place.
Not at all impressed with this place. The sesame chicken was dry inside and almost as dry on the outside, it's like the cook used less than half of the sauce most places would. Honestly, it was disgusting. The chicken fried rice was decent, but overall I think I will look for other places around here to feed my Chinese fix.
Review Source:I've been meaning to review this place for a while. Â We love this place. Â My husband is from Ireland and is always on the search for the perfect Chinese curry, so during his search he found Excelsior Garden. Â We've been ordering from here for 3-years. Â This is the best Chinese in the neighborhood. Â Listed below are my reasons for the 5-star rating
1. Best in the neighborhood - I've eaten A LOT of things on their menu and I've never been let down, everything is always good.
2. Fresh, fresh, fresh - their ingredients are so fresh...never anything iffy or frozen from Excelsior
3. Fastest delivery on the Northwest Side - they always say 20-minutes, but it's always here in 10 minutes.
4. Consistent - their food is consistent so you know it's always good
This is my FAVORITE take out Chinese place in all of Chicago! They have the best pan fried noodles......just enough crunch and not too greasy. This is also the only Chinese place that will let me order chicken and broccoli with mushrooms & water chesnuts and just a little szechuan sauce. I'm picky and don't want all those other mixed veggies in my dish. They have fast delivery and the food is fresh and delicious!
Review Source:Its funny, i can no longer eat orange chicken anywhere else but here! Â The chicken is WHITE meat chunks. Â The breading thin and the sauce is good! Â Their mongolian beef is good too. Â Eggrolls are standard and i like that. Â The only complaint is that they cannot seem to do spicy as hot as I would like it. Â But I can live. Â Also, you can see them cook the food so you know whats going on in the kitchen. Â Their delivery is fast. Â Eating there is not my idea of a good time cause there are only like 4 tables but its great to go!
Review Source:Typical Chinese carry-out, all the food we got was fresh, which is always a plus! Â I got hunan chicken, which had a nice crisp array of veggies, but just barely spicy sauce. Â Everything else was good, nothing to complain about, but nothing really to rave about either. Â If you live in the neighborhood, it's worth carrying out if you're in a Chinese mood.
Review Source:This tiny restaurant is located near the Jefferson Park terminal. Â They handle mostly carryout business because there is only enough room for a couple tables. Â Quite honestly, the place is nothing to look at, but there is a reason why bus drivers, commuters and local folks like to go here; the food is very good and the prices are even better. Â I usually get the chicken chop suey or sweet and sour shrimp special that comes with fried rice and egg roll; all for under $7! Â Next time you're passing through the train station, stop in Excelsior Garden and get some quality Chinese food to go.
