I could probably eat here every day. I probably shouldn't.

A badly needed casual taqueria in Evanston! I'd give it 5 stars for location alone. Finally, I don't have to drive to Rogers Park. This place features all the usual items: tacos, tortas, burritos, etc. with you choice of filling: al pastor, chicken, chorizo, steak, and others. There's nothing particularly special, but everything was quite good and comparable to similar  taquerias on Clack St. in Rogers Park, and a great value.

Just walked to this new place a few blocks from our house. Man, it didn't take long for them to get busy -- it's only been a week or two since they opened, and there was a line when we got there.

The food was perfectly serviceable Chicago Mexican food -- very similar to any number of places up and down Clark Street in Rogers Park. But a few things stood out. I had the queen size burrito al pastor, and it was very, very good. The pork was well-seasoned and other ingredients were fresh. The only complaint I had was that it was too hot to hold -- not a bad problem to have, given the alternative.

My wife ordered two tacos and a tamale -- after the transaction was complete, they discovered they were out of tamales and offered her another taco instead. The steak taco was fine but nothing to write home about -- the ground beef, on the other hand, was exceptional. Ground beef can be kind of watery in places like this, but they season it well. We brought the chicken taco home so I can't speak to the full experience, but the little tidbit of chicken I picked off of it was moist and good. Seemed a little odd that they'd run out of tamales early in the lunch hour, but they HAVE only been there for a week or two -- they'll figure out their volume soon enough.

They have all the basic meats you'd expect: steak, al pastor (pork), ground beef, chorizo, chicken, and so on, as well as tripe and tongue. Didn't try those this time, but I'm guessing I will soon.

Didn't notice if they have any veggie options, but people were ordering all kinds of custom stuff -- I'm sure they'd bang out a veggie burrito for you if you need one.

We split a large horchata -- I liked it a lot, but I can see how it could be considered a little too sweet compared to other horchata I've had.

Atmosphere is just like the places on Clark Street, too -- pretty spartan, kind of loud. One TV in the corner with soccer on, maybe six tables. We thought we'd have to bring it home, but most of the other customers were there for takeout. So a table opened up quickly and we were able to stick around.

So basically it's an up-the-middle burrito joint with some average food and some very good food. We'll have to go back for chilequiles (my wife's area of expertise). They're open until midnight and deliver until 11:00, so you don't even have to burn any calories to get fed.
