Awesome bar
My girlfriends are on this paleo challenge diet crap so when they heard of a paleo burger at Fifty50, it was a must try.
The restaurant is smaller, narrow, long bar on the left, few tv's with the Bulls game on. Service is outstanding. The hostesses are all really friendly, the waitress was super sweet, our glasses were never empty, and the bartenders were engaging.
Into the infamous "crossfit burger." It's the hamburger patty on top of chopped lettuce and then piled on with bacon, guacamole, and onions. Instead of fries it came with green beans almondine. Surprisingly it was very tasty and very filling. I didn't even finish my meal. I ordered my burger medium and it was a little on the medium rare side but still good. The green beans seemed a little oily but hey, I'm not too opposed since I just ordered a paleo burger. Good spices, good flavors, good portions.
~ $15 / burger though. That's a little redic to me.
I'd like to come back and try their seasonal shots! Yum!
Pretty solid overall establishment. When I'm in the mood for a burger I, far more often than not, pull up Fifty/50 on Grubhub and build my own burger: lettuce, tomato, onion, chili, bleu cheese, buffalo sauce, bacon and an egg. Â I need to unhinge my jaw to take a bite, but that's how I like it (insert inappropriate joke here). They have pretty good wings, at least for Chicago standards, but wings are one of the few food groups this former Upstate New Yorker can't find worth a damn in this city. Â
As a bar, it's also pretty solid. Â Since quitting drinking a few years ago, I go out infrequently but on the occasions I do, I end up here a fair amount of the time. Â The late night food options are a huge plus and you can get bottles of vodka downstairs at prices that are actually cheaper than the individual drinks. Â Plus, I hear Curtis Granderson is one of the owners and Grandy is one of favorite athletes, not that that has any bearing on the place's review, but it's a fun fact and learning is fun.
Been here a couple times, and have left more and more pleased each time. Good food, great beer selection, really fun to watch a game. Great service as well.
First, the buffalo wings are probably the best I've ever had. An absolute must. I can't resist them every time I come in. The baked goat cheese pita appetizer is a favorite of mine too. On top of this, Saturday $15 5-beer bucket is a great deal.
What really stands out to me is the service. The manager (I believe his name is Justin) is a very nice guy who will go out of his way to accomodate everyone. I came in for a Blackhawks game a few weeks ago, but all the televisions were showing the Bulls game at the exact time. With very little request from us, they put us right next to our own television, turned on the Blackhawks, and even put the sound on the Blackhawks game just for us! It made us feel really special and really valued, and I can safely say I will be coming back for game night from now on.
