The Haute & The Dog

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I ordered delivery from here last weekend and it was so fast and the delivery cyclist was so hot, that I have ordered delivery from here everyday for the past week. He can deliver sausages to my place any day, if you  know what I mean.

The fries were so hot when they got to my house that I nearly burnt my mouth! That NEVER happens with delivery. I've tried almost every menu item, my favorite is the mac and cheese dog OR the swine. Hmm...I wonder which dog I should order for lunch today...

Right on, what a great addition to the neighborhood - if only I wasn't out of town so much, I'd be going there often.  

I was a minor fan of Bagel on Damen when it opened, and the food was good, coffee tasty. Service was pretty lackluster.  Environment was nice, I really liked the design of the place - the Steve McQueen poster was the bomb.

So when it closed, I was disappointed, but H & D provides something much more appealing. Namely great, creatively topped dogs in a cool space with... great service. Now, I've only been there once since the turnover, but the people working smiled and chatted more than all the others times combined.  That might be an exaggeration (hey, this it yelp, right) but, take me at my word, they just seemed into it now.  And who could blame them with that menu?  It's inspired eating.

Think hot dougs + big star.  Except no line, though that's probably not going to be the case for long.  What the hell are you waiting for? Go eat.

I have had these delicious dogs twice.  I will be back for more.  Here is my take...  When I go to Alinea, I expect my mind to literally be blown by artistic food.  When I go to 3 Floyds brew pub, I expect my thirst to be quenched by myriad of funky brews I cant find anywhere else than an industrial corridor in weirdo Indiana.  When I go to the Haute and the Dog, I expect a few hipsters to be circling on their fix gear bikes, a stout little delivery truck out front, and HOT DOGS, nothing more! We are not talking some skinny wet processed meat sleeve from a ballpark, I am talking a plump and natural beeffy delight topped with creativity and skinny jeans hipster love.

All said and done.  I liked my experiences at H&D.  I look for a tasty treat and get it here.  Yes, its just a hot dog topped with peppers, or cheese, or mac and CHEESE- but sometimes I want just that... and a mini pie to finish things off (courtesy of Fasano- they are awesome!).  So, yeah... I'll be back for more.
