The ole fish house on miller. mm. My  favorite thing about this place is how fresh the sea food tastes. On the particular night we went theres was live music playing, I think they do that on the weekends or maybe other nights too. Usually its this guy singing classic oldies.  (Is this looove? - Bob Marley) Pitchers of beer arent exepensive. Atmosphere is good- not as loud and annoying as other places. Calamari is awesome. Service is not bad either! In fact, I dont know why I dont come to this place more often. If you live in that neighborhood, definitely go!
p.s. Martha is an awesome waitress!
Fish House is such a great find. The seafood is fresh and perfectly prepared and everything is reasonably priced. I look forward to coming here when there's live music, it would be a perfect spot to hang out drink and enjoy some awesome appetizers.
The ahi tuna app is a must! The fried oysters, lobster bisque and bloody marys are also exceptional. One thing I would not recommend is the garlic cream pasta sauce. The garlic was too overpowering for my taste and with such a huge amount of pasta it can get a bit sickening. The criolla sauce and mustard sauce on the other hand, (sampled off of my friends plates) were delish!
In short, awesome sea food restaurant and I cant wait to return.
Found this place per Yelp review and I am so thrilled that I did. The atmosphere is just too cute with the fish and boat theme with the low lighting. Our server was top notch and he helped us with the menu.
The first thing they bring you is fish dip with crackers. I was blown away by the fish dip. I couldn't stop eating it!
After that we had the crab cakes for an appetizer. WOW! Fresh, soft, and seasoned to perfection. I haven't had a crab cake like that ever in my life.
The rest of the meal was just as fabulous. I ordered the fish tacos and thoroughly enjoyed them. They aren't the best that I have had -- but they were certainly delicious. The rest of my party enjoyed their platters too -- maybe almost too much! ;)
We all left full and happy. For 5 people the bill came just to 100 dollars, which is pretty reasonable for fresh seafood.
I am so glad that I found this little place and I can't wait for another chance to head that way! I encourage you to do the same!
I've been to the Fish House four or five times, if it was closer to the house I would probably be more of a regular. Â I like that it seems to be family owned and operated. Â I have always been very happy with the service. Â
The food is very good, they have some of the best oysters in town. Â At around 9 bucks a dozen, they are a very good deal. Â Everything else I have eaten at the fish house has been excellent, but it's the oysters that keep me coming back.
What a great place! Everyone, especially Angela, make sure that you have a great time. Food is delicious, there is a lot to choose from! They have great specials like lobster mondays! Oh, the fish spread you get right at the start is amazing! They had live music when we first visited, such a fun night! Thank you Angela! Will return whenever I am in Miami!
Review Source:Nothing fancy so maybe I shouldn't compare with Joe's, but surprisingly the quality of sone crabs is as good as Joe's and a half the price. Since we went there a couple of days before Halloween, the staff (and  patrons) looked bizarre. A fish was not fishy at all, wich is very good. If you pay cash, you may want to print out discount coupons from their website (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fthefishhouse.com%2F&s=1c5323c16ad5668f72f9c96a70377205b1963be556bd3383a8c13ab3b94833af" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://thefishhouse.com/</a>) to save 5-10 dollars.
Review Source:Great atmosphere, music, and food. Â Service was a bit slow but expected with a full house on a Friday night. Â A bit pricey for the serving size you get, but the grouper with Caribbean sauce was to die for. Â Super friendly and knowledgable staff, helped us get the right food to fulfill our seafood craving. Â The room in the back has a New Orleans feel to it and where the band plays a great combination of Latin and oldies song on that night. Â Definitely a great place to recommend to friends.
Review Source:Found this place using Yelp and reading the great reviews. Heard through some friends who have gone that it was a great seafood place. And it did not disappoint!
The fish spread is delicious! Our server was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. The portions were large. The seafood is very fresh and flavorful. One of the best Caesar salads I've had. Fried oysters were amazing. Hubby and I shared a lobster bake at the suggestion of the server, definitely an A+! My new favorite seafood restaurant! Can't wait to go back and try the lobster bisque next time.
Meh. I'm pretty much going to copy Adam P's review here. Decent at best - but mediocre is better. Fish was fresh and well prepared but small for the price. The run down atmosphere, very drab exterior and the overcooked (almost brown) green? beans, tasteless yellow rice and drab potatoes ruined the meal. The fish spread was decent and the lobster bisque was just OK. The snapper filet was so small for the price ... The lobster portion was much better but once again not worth the price. We had two fish meals, a small cup of soup and two coronas.... Just over $72!! Â For thaT amount they could do much better ... And I could do much better too.
Oh, and jazz/blues? More like down home country song after song.. Which didn't help since we do not like country music. Overall a very strange experience...not what we expected from some of the previous reviews.
Decent at best. Rundown atmosphere with an univiting facade. The food arrives flavorless and overcooked. Service is very pleasant and amiable. One shining item from the menu is an appetizer/salad (the name escapes me) that could be described as fried ceviche. Strong flavors, fresh ingredients & a crisp taste all combine in that one dish. It's a pity the rest of the experience could not be that way.
Review Source:I lived in the Kendall area for over 20 years and somehow I just learned about this place a week ago! I came here on a Friday night and was excited to find a cozy seafood restaurant near the house.
First impression was made by the awesome fish dip that comes with crackers...A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
Second impression was the lobster bisque that I shared with my Fiancé...to my amazement it was probably the best I ever had! So far so good....
Third impression was the fresh blackened grouper I ordered with a side of potatoes and corn.
Grouper = A+
Potatoes = A+
Corn  = C at best. Â
The corn was drenched in some butter that tasted fake. I am picky with my butter because I am accustomed to the amazing butter in Europe, I even spend the extra money to buy the imported butter at the local grocery store! This butter had a strange taste and there was just too much on the plate. I took a few bites of the corn and let it be...either way I was full after the fish dip, lobster bisque, grouper and potatoes
First experience was great and I will definitely come back for more. I will just change out my side dish for something other than corn next time. Great job Angela!
The name of this place is the "Fish House" not 'La Casa de los Pesces" right?
This is The United States of America right?
The names of the cars here are in English, the menu is printed in English and I didn't need a passport to come here. I am North American and I speak the tongue of this land: English...
So with this criteria: ALL PERSONS INVOLVED IN CUSTOMER SERVICE SHOULD ALWAYS SPEAK AND UNDERSTAND ENGLISH UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED ON THE MENU, IN ADVERTISEMENT, ON LINE, ON THE DOOR OR WHATEVER THE CASE MAY BE.
That was not the case here! My service person couldn't understand me and I couldn't understand her.
This is NOT her fault. It is who ever hired her that should be ashamed of themselves for hiring someone that does not speak English in a place that has a menu printed in English, in the United States and who's patrons (most of which were English speaking) could not understand or communicate with this person.
I'm not hating. If I were in another country I WOULD ABSOLUTELY LEARN THAT LANGUAGE IF I CHOSE TO WORK THERE...
Really terrible customer service and deceptive pricing.  I ordered  the fresh fish which lists a variety of sauces you can choose from.  I chose mushroom sauce.  Nowhere on the menu does it state that you will be paying $3.99 extra for this sauce and the waitress doesnt mention that either. Â
When I spoke with an employee to complain about the charge, he stated "that's just how it is".  No managers were available to speak with.  So I ended up paying $26 for a piece of grouper covered in a mediocre mushroom sauce that tasted  like it was made from Campbell's Soup.  For that price, there are plenty of other restaurants with higher quality food who treat their customers better. Don't waste your night or your money.
My boyfriend is a seafood foodie...now if only it weren't expensive, right? We were being our good 'catholic' selves and respecting Lent so we decided to come here after le boyfriend heard some good stuff about this place.
They told me a 20 minute wait- it was a 20 minute wait. We were hoping to catch the NBA All-Star Game but their TVs are limited so don't go here for a game!!!! We ordered a dozen Oysters and though they were yummy, they were not cleaned very well and we had to eat them carefully. The Fish Dip everyone raved about...I see why they did! It was SO good and though the portion was small and personalized, it was perfect. I ordered Blackened Shrimp with Fries and a Cesar Salad and my boyfriend ordered the Fishermen's Stew.
The Blackened Shrimp was delicious with just the right amount of fries. The Cesar Salad is so yummy as well though the croutons were a little oily. Now, the fries, are a must have! Perfect amount of crunchiness and softness- me like. The Fishermen's Stew is what everyone should get when visiting this place as it can feed two people for a price of $14.99. Not bad! They had a check-in offer of $2 off an appetizer so use it while you can people! The service was good as well. Love this place and will definitely be coming back!
Only reason why they get a five star is because the place isn't so clean...We noticed some dust so time to clean Fish House!
Service: Â Really quick and attentive.
Food: Â Lobster Bisque is amazing. Â Oysters are an awesome deal. While they aren't the biggest oysters, they are quite tasty. Â Mahi-Mahi fish tacos and sandwich were delicious. Â The tacos were wonderfully prepared. Â
Ambience: Â Reminds me a lot of Flanigan's. Â Feels like something you'd find in the Keys.
Price: Â Reasonable for good seafood in Miami.
Hidden in the heart of Kendall, far away from an actual coast, this is the place you would otherwise pull up to in your boat to get the freshest catch available.
The Fish House is a completely unassuming place offering great fish as it is best served - lightly seasoned and fresh out of the water. Â Feel free to show up in shorts and flip-flops.
Last time I went was on a Sunday afternoon for an early lunch with my family. Â The kids loved their dolphin fingers and fresh smoothies (mango for my son and strawberry for my daughter). Â I thoroughly enjoyed my fisherman's soup, a bowl full of mussels, clams, scallops, shrimp, and fish all in a delicate tomato broth. Â It was waaaay to big to finish, so I had plenty of leftovers the next day for lunch as well. Â My husband had a great mahi-mahi stuffed with crabmeat. Â And the pina colada and the mojito were pretty good as well.
If you want fresh fish and you're in the neighborhood, The Fish House will always be a perfect choice!
Just had dinner there with my girlffriend and as usual the food and the service was great. I had the salmon stuffed with blue crab (took one home for my husband) and my friend had the maui maui with shrimp and mushrooms and both were delicious . The smoke fish spread is to die for, also try the fish croquettes. Live music, pleasant atmosphere. Will be back, have been there several times and never disappointed.
Went to Bone Fish Grill first and they had a very long wait so we went to The Fish House instead, glad we did. Also reasonably priced.
Super awesome good place. Eat here. You won't regret it.
As we pulled up I thought "hmmm this doesn't sound like the reviews said at all" but once inside it sure was! The inside was cute and you walk in and the first thing you see is their fish case- so you know it's fresh! The atmosphere was warm and fun. I loved all the flags on the ceilings. They sat us in the middle room. We would have liked to have sat in the back room with te live band but we had my 3 m/o and thought it was too loud for him. Which is a shame because on a Saturday night there were only a few tables in there to listen and the band wasn't half bad.
Service was good. I really enjoyed the smoked fish spread and crackers. I could eat that stuff all day! So absolutely good. As the reviews suggested we got the lobster bisque and it was yums. They had wahoo on special for the night and we got that with the rice and black beans. Everything was super good.
Next time I'm in the area I will definitely make a stop here.
Located in the small shopping center with Porky's Gym on Miller.
I love this place! Excellent, super fresh seafood with great portions and even better prices. Go with the lobster bisque, its just 5 bucks for a huge bowl and you'll be begging for more! They give you free smoked fish dip before you order, too! I went on a Sunday and the deal of the day was a whole pound of snow crab legs with one big side for just $10!! And it's not lacking quality, it was very good. The decor is really cool too. Service is always super friendly. Craving amazing seafood? Dont have a lot of money? This is your calling.
Hello my sweet, sweet lobster bisque. How I have missed you! After being away from Miami for five years, The Fish House is exactly how I left it. Still a cute and cozy seafood restaurant with a Key West feel. Thanks for playing Jimmy Buffet every time, it reminds me why I chose to date an American Boy ;) LOL.
Anyways, here are some of my favorite food items:
1. Lobster Bisque-best I've ever had.
2. Oysters! For $6 a dozen, it can't be beat!
3. Yellow Rice (side). As a Cuban, I eat a lot of yellow rice, and this is my favorite, by far.
4. Fried Grouper
5. Bacon wrapped scallops
6. Tartufos for dessert!
7. Crab legs
If you're in the mood for some great fresh seafood, you have to try this place! You'll feel as if you're on the beach :)
Thanks to a Yelp search, we found the Fish House when looking for a new place to have lunch. Â Me and my 4 co-workers headed over with empty bellies and high hopes for something new and delicious. Â I love the case of fresh fish in the front for purchase, the live lobsters and live crawfish clearly as fresh as can be! Â The bacon wrapped scallops made my mouth water. Â We found a great round table where we could all chat over lunch. Â The lunch menu had a lot of diverse, affordable options and everyone tried different things.
The fish spread w/crackers they bring in lieu of a breadbasket was delicious and addictive. Â Even the picky eaters in the group liked it. Â I ordered the fish tacos and although they were cheezier than your average fish taco they were quite tasty, the orange sauce on top gave them a little zing of spice which to me is a good thing. Â The coleslaw was too soupy for my liking but it was ok. Â Other hits were the Shrimp and Pasta in the garlic butter sauce, Oysters on the half shell, and dolphin fingers. Â
I noticed signs for a happy hour and from 4-7 you get a free pitcher of domestic beer w/the purchase of an order of chicken wings. Â The service was attentive and the manager/owner took the time to check in with every table. Â They even have Pepsi products so my Diet Pepsi was icing on the cake. Â I didn't notice any fish smell at all like mentioned by prior reviewers and like the casual feel of the place. Â There were a lot of items on the menu that looked good, I will definitely be back when in the area.
I know what you're thinking: Paula you just gave Matsuri a 3 stars and are giving TFH 4...what are you on?!....*sigh* I'm just missing New Orleans madly as usual, and TFH comes close to satiating that longing.
The first time I came to the Fish House was last year when the Saints were in town for the Super Bowl and I was attempting to make a mini doc about the fans and traditions. My friends at the Fish House were throwing their annual Mardi Gras crawfish boil (if you don't know what this means to me by now, you can consider yourself a stranger). They treated me like family.
And that's what you can expect here, besides top notch quality seafood, a great family atmosphere....think of it as the Ale house meets a Jazz dive in New Orleans. I always have a good time when I come here, they always have some really cool live music acts (Blues, Rock, Jazz....even Zydeco) and I always leave more than satisfied.
I came two Saturdays ago and had their fish soup, which is like el caldo your grandma makes except there's no way she could've found the scallops that were in this soup...I swear I couldn't fit them in my mouth, they were the size of my fist!
Good place. I went for lunch and the prices are good for what you get. It's the freshest seafood in Kendall that you can get away from ocean.
Now, reading other reviews, I've heard the fish spread was amazing, but I didn't find it that great. Maybe it's just me. I went with family and we ordered stuff to share and try. We got the fried seafood combination platter. It came with mussels, fish, scallops, and calamari. ($16) It was pretty good. We also tried the fisherman's rice and that was fantastic. The coconut shrimp is an excellent appetizer. However, I wouldn't recommend the crab cakes. They weren't good at all.
Overall, the place was pretty good. It's not cheap, but hey, it's seafood. They also have live music at nights, and the service was excellent for our lunch. The staff was real friendly and the wait for food wasn't long at all.
Angela from The Fish House contacted me with concern about my mediocre review and especially the implications of the carrots. She assured me that the ingredients are all very fresh - which I do not contest. I've always enjoyed the veggies there and I have to stress that there was nothing wrong with the veggies - by my guess-timation; the carrots were just discolored from being a bit dried out. That was a real bummer since i'm trying to eat better.
I am really looking forward to going back now. I won't announce who I am until after we've eaten (I'm not fishing for freebies here). I want this place to be as they were before - a real compliment to the community.
Restauranteurs like Angela can really add to the neighborhood in which they operate and both entities stand to gain from their efforts. My guess is that we showed up at a bad moment - everyone and every place suffers that from time to time. Someone may have put too much water in the Creole Sauce (or it was served before its time) and the carrots may have been chopped fresh that morning but the prep cook left them exposed in the chiller before they blanched them.
My star rating is the same for now because this is not the first time we've gone and left a bit dissappointed. I will adjust it according to my next visit and kind regards to Angela - she is very nice and although I feel bad about it, I have to be honest in my reviews.
Went here for dinner with a couple of friends from out of town. Â Chose this place because of the oysters. Â They had a special of a dozen of oysters, or shrimp for $5.00. Â We ordered 2 dozens and the oysters were A - OK. Â They were meaty but they lacked seafood salty taste. Â It was like we were eating mussels! Â We were a bit disappointed in this.. but oh well now we now...
For dinner we ordered a Fisherman Soup which was huge!! Â It was quite tasty, and had lots of seafood in it: salmon, fish, shrimp, etc. etc. Â Good to go with some lemon... yummy! Â My friend had a seafood rice, it looked like a paella. Â It had great taste. Â The rice came with 2 sides either be maduros, tostones, potatoes, etc. Â Two people eat out of this dish, the portion is super huge!!!
I was expecting something better on the oysters, do not what type they were... but I will keep looking for oysters around my neighborhood.
The Fish House is completely the opposite of what you'd expect, especially in Kendall. It doesn't seem like a "fish house" but instead is in a strip mall and looks kind of like a dive bar.
The food is pretty good. They have things on their menu that you can't find everywhere, like oyster po-boys and conch fritters. Both delicious! I also recommend the fish dip; they give you a sample when you sit down. The grilled fish entrees aren't the best, even topped with sauce and shrimp. I'd try a sandwich instead, much yummier. Â
My favorite part is the events they have. I went for the Live Blues Night and not only was the place packed and bouncing with live music but there was even a wait! (That's a good thing! Nothing in Kendall is ever bouncing... no offense to Kendallites, I'm one myself). And I'm guessing the same will be for the upcoming Crawfish Cajun Festival. Keep your eyes open for their good deals (there's a Yelp offer now) and coupons that sometimes come in the mail. Believe it or not, this place is actually popular. I'd go back.
My husband and I went to check this place out b/c of the great reviews. We were not impressed @ all, in fact, we were very disappointed.
We enjoyed the fish dip, we even bought a little tub home w/ us. I ordered the lobster bisque, which was surprisingly good. It had nice chunks of lobster meat in it. My husband had the clam chowder, which I thought was OK, and he thought tasted canned.
I love me some crabcakes.... so I had to get those, and boy was that a heartbreaking move. They were terrible. The flavor was off, they were very bland. And the breading was too thick for my taste. I like my crabcakes lightly battered and with chunks of crab.... these were thick and the crab was stringy and just not up to par. My husband got a mahi sandwich, which was ehhh. Nothing exciting. I've made better fish @ home.
The place is cute, it's a little cramped but seems like an OK place to go have some beers and possibly appetizers. Not a place I would probably go back to, except to stock up on fish spread and maybe pick up a lobster bisque.
For a person that really doesn't like fish (there's something terribly unappetizing about the smell of putrid seawater), I still enjoy an occasional meal at the Fish House.
The smoked fish spread is addicting and I could probably just eat that on those delicious captain wafers if given the choice.
The last time I went, I had the pasta with pink sauce (it wouldn't be fair to call it Vodka sauce...) and shrimp. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very tasty. Definitely worth having, especially when it's offered as a special.
Our pitcher of beer was a little flat and had a piece of foil from a wine bottle in it, but otherwise it was reasonably priced and not worth complaining too much about.
I think my biggest pet peeve with Fish House is the music. In one room they usually have some crappy live band playing terrible covers or even worse, original songs. And if the gods find it favorable and you're lucky enough to be seated far away from said crappy band, prepare to endure XM's Best of the '60's station directly competing with the house music. Is this type of torture absolutely necessary, Fish House?
Anyway, aside from that, the place is really comfortable and relaxing to eat at so definitely give it a try. :)
We've been regulars for lunch and dinner since they opened. Â Consistent, fresh food and good service. Â The seafood pastas and chowders are excellent, and this is one of the few seafood places where we eat in the West that never disappoints.
Favorites - Daily Specials, the Maryland Crab Cakes, Linguini Alfredo, and Blackened Tilapia or Grouper Sandwiches. Â I could bury my head in a bowl of the Fish Spread - excellent - but you don't want to fill up and "spoil your appetite" as my Mom used to say.
I went here based on all the good reviews, however I was not impressed by anything. Â The place is on the small side which is not a bad thing, just an observation. Â Our server was a bit curt and did not give off a warm and fuzzy, however, she was fairly efficient. Â
Also, the place smells way too fishy for my taste: I know this is a fish place, but why does it have to smell so fishy? Â Ive been to other seafood restraurants where the fish smell was not so pronounced. Â
I don't know what the other reviewers ate to rate this place so high, but my meal was not very good at all and no one else in my party was very happy with their food either. Â There were four people in my party and we all ordered different items; i tried all of them but was not impressed by any. Â I'm pretty sure I'm not going back to this establishment .
I've lived at my house my entire life and have driven past this place a million times. Â The one time I take my fish craving mother out I decided that's it's finally time to stop and test these waters. Â The decor was very Flannigans without the tvs and loud people. Â The fish is the freshest I've ever seen in Westchester, and the fish dip they start you with is soo good. Â I would recommend that when they drop off the fish dip, ask for an order of galic bread asap, then look at the daily catch menu and pick your favorite, each comes with two sides, I had the fries which were nice and crunchy with the coleslaw which was good too. Â We both had the tilapia and the steaks that were on our plates were huge! Â Nothing like filling yourself on fresh grilled or fried fish. Â We skipped desert put the menu suggested a cuban variety of sweets.
I can't wait to go back it was very delicious and recommend it to everyone of all ages, don't eat at red lobster, eat real fresh fish at The Fish House.
