I like when places do something simple and do it right. Five Guys is such a place. Burgers, fries, and little else. Fresh ingredients, solid burgers, great toppings like grilled mushrooms and onions, awesome fries, and free roasted peanuts. Burgers are like pizza in that there are countless variations on the theme and everyone has their preferred style (like those West Coasters loyal to In-and-Out), but for my money, this place has the best chain burgers and off-the-chart fries. There's a reason this place tops the Zagat survey for best fast food chain, best burger, and comes in just behind McDonalds for Best Fries.

This place was clean and efficient when I was there, and the guy taking orders was exactly the right amount of chatty. He came by while we were eating to make sure everything was good, too. Five Guys usually has a friendly staff, but this store was even better than the usual.

I will say it costs a bit more than your typical fast food place. It's not social media hype or covering the cost of the peanuts; it's that quality ingredients, including meat that's never frozen, cost more money. There's a reason you pay more for a burrito at Chipotle than one at Taco Bell.

Okay so I was totally confused on where to go or how to order since it was my first experience here......although the layout was confusing I will say my burger was good. I can appreciated the unlimited topiings....I ended up ordering off the kids menu. I could use a different cheese.......the kind they use is just yeah....not very paletable to me.

The fries I was not impressed with but the mannerable staff was very helpful. Its hard to find good and patient customer service - they had that going for them at least.

Upon entering the door I didn't realize the potato stacks were the barrier I was to follow to place my order. I was a bit confused until the cashier called me over. The menu is obviously simple. The staff is friendly and patient for this was my first visit. The total for a value meal was just shy of $13, perhaps all the social media hype was a factor in their price. It wasn't a cheap meal by all means but it was tasty.

The fries are pretty much the best thing on the menu...cajun style. Would I go back for another burger, sure why not. But it is overwhelming with all the window signs tell you how to feel, eat and think before you order. Its like a jedi mind trick up in here.

I get they are a successful establishment with a killer formula when it comes to franchising. Seriously the walls need to be toned down with their bragging paraphernalia. You don't see Portillo's doing that what so ever and that's the mecca of fast casual awesomeness!

I'm not a frequent eater of meat. With that said, I can actually consume a five guys burger with a smile. It's definitely not the best I've ever had but it's close. When I need a burger fix I usually go here as the fries are good and they give you a bag full of them, way too many to eat I say.

The burgers and fries are good, but very overpriced. We ordered 2 little cheeseburgers and split a regular fry and drink. It was $16. For that much, I wish we went to Portillo's who I think has better burgers (and beef, dogs, salads, etc.)

Sorry to give you guys 3 stars but I've had better burgers. Service was quick and the menu was easy to navigate. Love that you include mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A1 Steak Sauce, bar-b-q sauce and hot sauce as free toppings but the beef patty just wasn't up to par. I did like the fries. Maybe, I need to give you another chance, until then, I'm sticking with the 3 stars.

not as great as in and out but thats my personal opinion.  i loved the soda choices there.  i wonder if they have a secret menu?  the fries were good too bad they didn't have ice cream shakes for me to dip it in.  sounds disgusting but before you judge  give it a try.  its surprizingly harmonious =)  the burger was nice and thick but i wanted more lettuce on it and preferably not shredded lettuce.  their patties didn't have any flavoring so I added lots of ketchup to mine.

Against my better judgement, we went back to give 5 Guys another shot. We did so with different expectations, and a plan to order from the menu differently.

We ordered smaller, shared fries, and tempered what we thought we should be comparing this place to. A much better plan, actually. Set the bar low, and go from there.

The food was just as good this time, and enjoyable when we didn't feel like there was so much food in front of us.

The different location (Geneva, Illinois) didn't make the atmosphere any better, though. Cramped, loud, uncomfortable and way too small for how many people they try to cram in there. I absolutely HATE eating in this place. Winter coats makes it even worse.

Still 3-stars, but confirmed my original reactions to this place. Really good food, but if I ever eat at Five Guys again, it will be to-go. The atmosphere sucks.

Dear Five Guys, word of advice: don't use a towel to wipe up a table, then to wipe up the floor, then that same towel back on the table again.  Seriously, it's super gross and it's (I hope) against health codes.

At the same time, to the idiots that made the mess, don't be so damn piggish and lazy.  Okay, you spill your drink all over the table, don't just move to another table and pretend it didn't happen.  Clean it up!  At the very least notify the employees so during the busy lunch rush they can pretend to be your mother and clean up after you!

I did finish my meal before the whole towel thing so I was able to enjoy it without being grossed out.  However it will be invading all my thoughts if I consider eating there again.

Five Guys is a really great burger. Well-seasoned and well-cooked patties with fresh toppings and great bread. Fries are really fresh tasting and well-seasoned too. You're going to be paying more than any fast food chain, but not quite what you would pay at a sit-down restaurant.

Tried Five Guys today for the first time and really liked it!  Burgers were delicious, loved the homemade feel to them.  Fries were very good too, the large order was huge.  Only drawback is it's a bit pricey for a burger joint and they could have a bigger menu.  But overall you do get a lot of food and I'll definitely go back again!

For burgers and fries, this is the place. A couple months ago I was on a burger and fries kick, and after I heard all the rave reviews about this place I had to try it. To sum it up, the burger lived up to the hype.

Five Guys is the place to go if you're serious about a burger. This isn't the "half pound" pub burger your local bar servers. It's not anything fancy with bleu cheese, fancy stuff mixed in with the meat, anything like that. It's premium beef, cooked to perfection on the flattop and served with fresh cut fries.

Upon entering the place you're greeted with bright white with red accents. A sign lets you know which farm the potatoes that comprise today's french fries are from and the menu is simple and easy to read. There's a couple other offerings on the right hand side, but you are interested in the left - Hamburger, Cheeseburger, and the "little" variants of those selections. A cheeseburger is two patties, while a little cheeseburger contains only one.  Toppings are listed below the burger and there's about 20 of them if I remember correctly. I stick with the classic - Ketchup, Mustard, Pickle, and raw onion. Patties are only 3.3 ounces, which sounds deceivingly small - a double will fill you up, but when I get a little burger I always regret not getting a double.

Fries are served two ways - regular or cajun. Cajun basically equals fries coated in seasoning salt - not a bad thing at all. A "regular" size is a ridiculous portion of fries - enough for two, possibly three people. It's a 12 or 16 ounce drink cup full of fries, then they put a "topper" on top of that, which is basically about half again that many fries loose in the bag.

One thing they aren't is fast - it takes about 10 minutes from the time you order until you receive your food, but that's because the food doesn't touch the grill until you order.

Now - down to the burger. It's pure bovine delight. The burger is juicy, perfectly pepared to well done, not a degree over. I can't describe in words just how good the burger is. The cheese is perfect, layered on each patty with a creamy smoothness and a flavor that pairs perfectly with the juices of the burger. Toppings are applied in just the right amounts, not too many or too few. For me at least, THIS is burger paradise.

Fries are good. You can tell these aren't your average french fry, they are a league above. Tasty whether you get the regular variety or the cajun. The regular fries benefit from a liberal dose of salt.

When you bite into what Five Guys has to offer, you taste pure America. Just like Italy has offered the world pasta and tomato sauce, America offers up burgers and fries. If I were taking someone out for their first burger and fries, this would be it.

If there's any downside to this place, it's that it's easily $10-11 out the door for a burger, fries, and a drink. As with all my reviews, bonus points for serving Coke products!!

Five Guys is a definite must try. Be careful though, because you won't want to eat burgers and fries anywhere else!

Five Guy's Burgeres and Fries, know how to make a good burger with some juicy meat in between two large seasame seed bun. THe fresh fries really top it off, and I love the side of peanuts too.

They also offer free refill beverage when you eat inside the restaurant. Alright, it's not " In and out Burger," I give it that, but it's great for what Chicago has, and I'm not complaining about it as of yet. I've been there twice had their Cheeseburger with all my trimmings and it was delicious! I would pay $5 for their burger because it's really good! I can't say it enough, please go try a " Five Guy's burger and Fries," it might knock your taste buds to a whole another level.

This is definitively one of the better burgers in the area, but I'd say the fries are what makes this place more unique. They are fresh-cut fries that are overflowing in the bag when you get them... so don't let the size of the cup deceive you when ordering them.

If the price was a little lower I'd probably go there a little more often, but it's a good cross between a restaurant and fast food.

EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. It's a lot of hype and not a whole lot to back it up.  I'd honestly rather have a burger from Portillos. However, it wasn't that bad.  The menu is straight forward and basic.. burgers and fries.. so, you'd think like 5-6 bucks right?? YAAAAAAA RIGHT!

The places is waaaay overpriced and the product isn't worth the fortune.  I do like the fact that the fries are fresh cut and that they supply vinegar to put on them.. but that was pretty much the highlight of my meal.

I'd honestly have to say that if I was going to give my body some unneeded fats and waste my daily calorie intake, I would rather NOT have a burger from here.. it's just mediocre and expensive!

So many people recommended Five Guys to me I had to try it. I was very dissapointed on my first visit but did give them one more try. I now wonder what my friends consider a "good" burger.

First I was struck at all the self-clamoring reviews they have posted on thier walls. As if by looking at them during the 10 min wait, it will taste better. Of course, it is apparent that all these magazines and newspapers are on the east coast, so perhaps its a regional taste.

I was confused by thier menu. You wouldn't think so given the lack of variety, but since when is a Regular a double and a Junior a single? Could you just say Single or Double? Strange indeed?

Price was a little steep. I guess they have to pay for the "free" peanuts somehow. One can easily get a better burger and variety for about the same price at any number of burger joints. I do like peanuts, but this almost ruined my appetite, since I kept munching on them during my long wait.

The fries are fresh cut, prepared inpeanut oil and well portioned. I chose the seasoned fries on my first visit and nearly choked due to the overpowering amount of seasoning. I reccomend the standard fries as they were much tastier and probably the best thing on the menu.

Then came the burger. My high expectations were dashed the moment I opened the wrapping. I don't mind a bit of clean up while dining on a good burger, but this thing was a greasy, sloppy mess. The bun was saturated with grease and catsup. So much so, that it practially fell apart as I raised it to my mouth. Rarely do I fail to eat an entire sandwich, but it simply was not tasty enough to endure the mess (and risk of staining my clothes). On my second visit I chose the junior thinking I could avoid the mess, not so. Grease everywhere!

I do not forsee another visit to Five Guys.

All the nice east coast reviews will not help Five Guys take a foothold in Chicago.

If you've never been to 5 guys, and you live in this area, stop reading this and go to Portillos and have their burger and fries.
5 guys is good.  Very good.  Kind of tastes like Wendy's, but fresher and better.  It's considerably pricey for what it is though.  For 3 adults and 2 kids I ordered 1 little cheeseburger (1 patty), 1 hot dog, and 3 cheeseburgers all the way (2 patties, several great toppings), and 2 large fries.  No drinks.  The total was $37.77.
That notwithstanding, they do what they do well and quickly.  Everyone was pleased with what they got.

Very good hamburgers.  The fries that they give are plentiful and taste very good.  The place is kind of small so if it's packed you will need to take it to go, but overall a very good place.

Alright, when I walked into this joint I see all kinds of signs claiming affordable awesome burgers. I 1st was disapointed with barely a variety of items...though mushrooms onions etc. Were free to add to the burger.

After I orded I quickly noticed that my grand total for a bruger with cheese and bacon fries and drink was almost 13 bucks....!@#% wtf!?!? $13 for a value meal...no value there.

Took 10 mins to get my food...and then I ate it...I would say it was just a notch up from burger king in quality and taste....probobly will avoid this place from here on out...

I don't know what all the fuss is about

Nice staff but the hamburger was forgettable.  My experience at the Maryland/D.C. locations was much better.  The cajun fries never disappoint but even the smallest size is way too big for one person - what a waste.

Tried 5 Guys for the first time last weekend, and I was beyond pleased!  My absolute favorite burger is In-N-Out, and this is a close second!
Burger was juicy & delish... and very fresh.  Generous portions of meaty fries.  Note that the little burger is larger than the average regular burger.
    You won't be disappointed!

Never again. I have no idea how anyone thinks this is the best burger.

Obviously the people who wrote the restaurant reviews that are hanging all over the restaurant's windows did so before they become violently ill. It makes me sick even to think about those oh-so-greasy burgers--extremely messy burgers--and those peanut oil fries. The fries aren't even cooked right! The potato was still hard in the center. Strike ONE!

Then you have the extremely limited and confusing menu. I didn't know that a regular hamburger was actually going to be a double. I guess that's the chain's lingo (think of what Starbucks drinkers probably first thought of the names for cup sizes). Couldn't they offer...well...ANYTHING else? Not that I'm expecting to find gourmet salads at a burger joint, but what about patty melts? A chicken sandwich? An all-American BLT? Hell, a milkshake to make those awful fries edible? Strike TWO!

Actually, now that I think about it, no, they shouldn't offer anything else. Why? Because it would take the cooks even longer to get your order out! To the cooks at Five Guys: it's not rocket science. You fry the burger, you assemble the sandwich, and you serve it. Not sure what the hold up is in the kitchen. I'm perfectly willing to wait for my food, but it took a ridiculous amount of time - and it wasn't even that busy! I'd at least understand why it could take that kind of time if the line was out the door, but when my wife and I came here, we were one of THREE customers! It wasn't worth the time--and certainly not the money--to wait for what we were served. Strike THREE!

Best burger, in my opinion? Portillo's. They're right down Boughton; get driving. Who isn't hopelessly addicted to their perfect crinkle-cut fries n shakes?

Absolutely the best burger in Bolingbrook. The little burger will please most, the regular is the double. You must go there. WOW
