Used to come here a lot for Tuesday night quizzo. Would usually order the crab and spinach dip with bread which is a good appetizer and then get the cheeseburger sliders which are really good (it's the secret sauce). Decent beer selection, but again the only reason why they didn't get 4 stars is because they need to expand the bar area a little more. Too small a space and it gets really crowded.
Review Source:This is an update to my first review. Â
I am happy to say that after receiving an apology and being invited to come back, we did. Â Even brought our toddler with us. Â He was fascinated by all of the fish, loved the tank but thought the sharks were a little too real looking to sit next to. Â Thankfully the staff changed our seats and he was happy to gaze from a safe distance.
The wings are amazing, finger-licking good to be exact. Â We ordered our wings with the sauce on the side so that we could try several sauces. Â After finishing one order, we opted to take another order to go. Â Another stellar choice here is the fish and chips- Oh my yummy goodness! Â You cannot go wrong with these crispy crunchy delights. The only disappointment was the crab cakes- I'm not sure if it was a bad day for them or what, but mine lacked seasoning and looked like it needed to cook a little longer. Â
The service was good and the staff worked well together to attend to patrons. Â I'm looking forward to bringing my father in for wings when he comes to town.
I've been to the Boathouse before but never for their wing / pitcher of beer special. Â I finally got a chance to stop in on wing night. Â I think the Boathouse is best for happy hour or for indulging in a large craft beer selection. Â They have a HUGE beer selection and that's the best part about this bar.
I really was underwhelmed with their wings. Â I mean they were free with the pitcher and that's a great value but I wouldn't ever go there just for wings. Â As a few people said in their reviews don't go there expecting an above average meal. Â I tried a burger on this trip and it was pretty good but it wasn't anything to rave about.
Beer selection always provided me with something that I was excited to drink during the course of my stay. I go straight for their burgers, which are sinful. This place can be a little loud - there is a sports bar of sorts attached to the dining area.
This is the kind of place which I can easily deduce to be a beer & burger joint. I wouldn't take a chance ordering much apart from the medium-cooked burger with blue cheese and bacon - I love a good burger, and this "boathouse" delivers a juicy one.
Good spot to grab beers with friends during the week. Conveniently located close to the Conshy train station and generally easy to grab a seat at the bar.
I've been known to miss a train or two by getting sucked in at the Boathouse, if we are being honest with one another. Â Extensive draft beer selection with all the general favorites.
This is a pretty good place. The wings were surprisingly good. I'm a bit critical of the wings I eat and don't really like to settle for dry or bland wings, but Flanigan's were moist and had well-balanced flavor. Also, their burgers and fries are really good and their fish and chips entree is excellent. Some of the other things on the menu can be hit or miss.
The only reason I subtracted a star is because the service can be shady depending on who you get and because they are never stocked as far as a lot of the beer on their menu. Whenever you order a craft beer off their menu, make sure you give the waiter a "back-up" beer because there's a 50/50 chance they won't have the beer you ordered.
Due to the laws of physics (or something like that) restaurants can't be everything to everyone. Â You don't go to a chain restaurant if you want a gourmet feast- you go to a place downtown like Vetri for that. Â And you don't go to Vetri if you want some cheap grub at 3 am, you go to a cheesesteak shop or a 24-hour diner.
So if you come to Boathouse, don't expect a gourmet meal. Â Don't expect a romantic spot. Â Don't expect dirt cheap prices. Â But do expect decent food. Â Do expect a pretty killer beer list. Â Do expect a post-collegiate atmosphere with a whole lotta testosterone (and a billion tvs playing a billion different sporting events/episodes of Sportscenter).
What a terrible night for the Boathouse. Â It is Superbowl sunday, we placed our wing order at 1:00PM for a 6:00PM pickup. Â We arrived a couple of minutes before 6:00PM to pickup. Â There were people waiting everywhere, and the restaurant was behind. Â They were not willing to give an estimate of how long the wait would be and most of the staff was very rude. Â We ended up getting our order at 7:15PM, well after the game started.
Will never order pickup again!!!
Solid wings, big and meaty. Â They offer several sauces. Â So you can get them hot or mild but also honey BBQ, Asian BBQ (which is what I had today), Garlic Parmesan, and a couple others. Â As long as a place has good meaty wings as a base, I'm a fan of flavor varieties. Â I don't like when a place has 10 different sauces but puny or otherwise deficient wings. I've been going to this place for wings for over 10 years and they've been pretty consistent in quality. Â They're not "out of this world, crazy good, gotta have em" but they're solid and they will satisfy your wing craving should one arise.
The place has kind of a college happy hour feel to it (my iced tea arrived in a large plastic cup) which is fine as long as the happy hour patrons aren't there when I'm there. Â In summary, good wings, I'll be back.
I'll have to agree with Zach H. here. Focus on a certain part of the wall and you will feel you are in an uber-republican Chef Memento Room and not a pretty darn good restaurant.
That being said, their chowder is just the thing to fill the void in your belly on a cold night and the hot honey garlic wings definitely do the trick. I liked this place.
I came here for the University of Michigan game because the bar hosts one of the alumni association local groups to watch the games together. Â The bar and the manager were super accomodating, they had a whole area to watch the game and it was the one game being broadcast over the speakers so you could even hear it outside. Â
The food itself was pretty good. Â I got the buffalo chicken salad which was kind of overdressed and the chicken was a little tasteless but it was pretty typical bar food. Â We also got asian bbq wings to start which were AMAZING. Â My cousin, who lives in the area, and frequents the bar, says they are known for their wings. Â My husband's philly cheesesteak sandwich was nothing to write home about.
The service was also excellent, we had a waitress that was very attentive to us and to the whole football viewing party. Â She didn't write anything down when she took our order, which always makes me a little nervous, but she got it almost 99% correct which is pretty impressive, I know I couldn't do it!
Overall, I would definitely go again, especially to try the different sauces for the wings!
I went to "Wing-It Wednesday" for the first time last week & loved it. Â You get 10 free wings with each pitcher of beer you order. Â The wings were really good, the atmosphere was a lot of fun & it was really busy but the service was pretty legit too. Â Looking forward to going back!
Review Source:WINGS!!!
Yeah that pretty much sums it up! The wings here are awesome and the beer specials are great! The one night if you bought a pitcher you got nachos for free! I've heard they also have buy a pitcher and get wings too!
The other food is pretty good too. It's better and more creative than your typical bar fare.
I also have to say that the servers have always been really nice and accommodating, even going out of their way for me.
I don't really understand all of the low ratings. I think this place is far better than PJ's or anything else in its category around the area.
My advice is if you are looking for an upscale 5 star place, don't go here but if you want a good place to hang out, watch the game, eat some wings and drink beer this is your place.
Beer was good. Food was not.
I hadn't been to the Boathouse in a long time and recall the food being much better. When we've been there for lunch in the past, the place was ALWAYS packed. Not on this day. There were maybe 10 customers. I immediately thought, "how times gave changed."
I asked why so slow, and the barmaid said it's too hot for people to come out for lunch. Huh!? You'd think cool air conditioning and good food would bring people into the restaurant. Other places on the street looked busy.
This time, the crab cakes were liquidy and not the solid crab meaty cakes I remember. Fries were ok, but a bit over seasoned. Only saving grace was that the Blue Moon on tap was cold and delicious.
Definitely not the place it once was. Probably won't be visiting Flanigan's Boathouse again.
I forgot how good the food is here. Used to go there nights with friends as a young-un, then just drifted away, except for a random beer now and then. But circumstance landed me and a nitpicky relative in the Boathouse for lunch this week, and I'm glad we went.
The Boathouse looks like a bar with--oh yeah--a few tables in the back for meals, but don't be fooled by its appearance. Once you enter the dining area, you realize that someone has  taken a little care to design the place as a cozy, welcoming spot for a good meal. (There's a nice skylight.)  I had the summer chicken salad, which was a spring mix salad with pecans, sundried tomatoes, feta, and a fair-sized serving of excellent  grilled chicken on top. Top-notch meal-sized salad. My companion had coffee and a tossed salad (both of which she said were far above average) and the cheeseburger, which she said was very good but slightly dry. (That said, she did order it well-done and refused out of principle to put ketchup or mustard on it.)
They had a good-looking dessert menu (Reese's peanut butter pie, key lime pie, a mashed-up hot fudge something or other), but we decided to pass on it if we wanted to fit into the car again. We'll be back!
Mitt Romney wants you to eat here. At least judging by all the Republican photos on the wall he would be happy if you did. Restaurants are people, too, I think he'd tell you.
Your unwitting donation to propel Rick Santorum's gay-marriage-is-dog-marriage fight gets you some really, really good wings. Crispy skin and tender meat with a full complement of standard and creative flavors. Sauces like Asian BBQ, hot honey garlic, and sweet suicide are worth trying; I'd stay away from chipotle lime. The rest of the menu isn't noteworthy. If you're here, you're here for wings. Don't over think it. It's a sports bar's sports bar and if you're spending over $15 for an entree you're doing it wrong.
The beer list is strong with bottles from far flung places and is enough to keep your beer snob friend interested for an evening. The draught list isn't quite as capable, with a few local exceptions, and I suspect that's a product of the Boathouse knowing their customer: always suburban, often collegiate, rarely daring. Which kind of sounds like a Young Republicans meeting.
After raving about Baggattaway's Philly wings to our local host, she claimed Boathouse's wings were better. Not one to turn down a chance to compare wings, I was giddy when we walked in.
There was a good amount of people for the dinner hours. Ordered a variety of flavored wings. Unfortunately, my wing-eating-finger-licking bf and I were not impressed. We liked the variety though.
Decent and interesting beer selections. Looks like a popular place for games and relaxing.
I keep wanting to like the Boathouse, and it keeps wanting not to be liked.
Located right on Fayette St. in Conshy, the BH scores good marks for decor and draft beer selection. Â However, the drafts I've ordered here just didn't seem fresh. Â Yeah I'm picky when it comes to beer, but my palate just didn't care for what was on tap.
The chicken cheesesteak was run of the mill...nothing special. Â Wings were pretty good but not epic by any stretch. Â I think the BH is probably a good stop for happy hour, but for lunch there are some much better options in Conshy.
Reasons why you should go: Â A reasonably priced, conveniently located sports bar. Â There is usually lots of street parking, and there is also a garage and an open lot nearby (both free, but check the hours to ensure you won't be towed from the garage). Â They make some of the best wings I've ever had. Â Plenty of TVs with a plethora of sporting events to watch at any given time. Â They have a good beer selection, although the beer menu can be a bit deceiving - they don't always have everything that's on the menu, and a lot of the beers are served in the bottle, not on draft (also okay, as long as I know what I'm getting when I order). Â Love Tuesday Trivia night, it always makes for a good time. Â
Reasons why the Boathouse can be irritating: Â It can get very crowded in the bar area, but you can always venture into the dining area (I recommend sticking to the bar if you can). Â In general, the food is average and unimpressive (with wings being the exception!). Â The bartenders can be difficult to wrangle, even when it's not super busy. Â Not sure if they aren't paying attention, or if they just don't care? Â The servers are decent, but some of the girls can be snooty - irritated if you take too long to order, making faces at your table from across the bar...
All-in-all, this is a decent sports bar. Â Nothing super standout, but if I find myself in Conshy again, I'd probably go back for a beer and some wings. Â Make sure to order your wings extra crispy, it makes them so much tastier!
Definitely my favorite happy hour spot in Conshy. They always have a wonderful selection of light AND
craft beers. From 5-7, a good selection of their craft beers are only 3 dollars. It can get PACKED later in
the week or for sporting events.
Food is pretty good if you're in the mood for some bar food. Nachos always hit the spot, wings are
best in Conshy and burgers are big. I almost always get (and share) nachos with whoever I coheres into
coming with me!
This bar is great to watch sports in as well. They get all the premium sports channels and will turn TVs
to whatever games you wish. GREAT for Phillies games ... always a big sports fan crowd.
This is my "home" bar. It's a bar you can go to all dressed up. It's a bar you can wear galoshes and a
sweatshirt. I have been known to wear PJ pants and gym clothes too. Everyone is welcome here. Come
and enjoy!
The wings here are terrific, and the beer selection even better. But in my continuing search for the best buffalo chicken cheesesteak (BCC) in town, I tried ordering one from the Boathouse. While our beers and wings were spot on, my BCC was not only the smallest I've bought so far (out of a half dozen places or so around Conshy), but it also had neither blue cheese or buffalo sauce. So they heard the order wrong on the phone. The sandwich tasted good but it failed at being a BCC.
No hard feelings. I'll still go here for my beer and wings, and Lenny's on 9th for by BCCs.
I've been to the Boathouse locations in Conshy & Wayne and have been thoroughly impressed by both.
The bar area is pretty large here but the dining/seating is a bit tough especially on a crowded night. This is a fantastic place just to kick back and hang with friends and throw back a couple of beers.
I gotta say the fries & wings are quite delicious. As for the wings, I've had the honey bbq and the atomic flavors. The honey bbq was awesome but the atomic wasn't all that spicy or perhaps I've just eaten way too many spicy things in my life and have killed all my buds. Who knows!
Oh and Wing It Wednesdays is where it's at! Order a pitcher of beer and get 10 wings. I don't know about you but beer and wings, who could ask for more?!
The wings are what's up at this place!
I have to say the wings are quite good, as was the beer and the other goodies we had. Â I would highly recommend this place to whomever is looking for a good chill time at a nice bar out.
The one thing I would like to say is the Chipotle Lime wings were awful, please be sure to order at your own risk. Â I tried them out at the advice of the other yelpers and was highly disappointed. Â The regular hot wings were excellent as were the honey BBQ.
Stick to the basics and enjoy!
If you live out in the burbs, this is a pretty good spot to hang out, drink, and watch the game. But I want to especially highlight the food. It's very good here. Not "bar food". They've got lots of great stuff on the menu, but do check out their wings if you get a chance. They've also got these amazing cheese fries with this fancy cheese which will knock your fucking socks off. Delicious burgers too. Oh, and they've got these steak paninis there which will (if your socks are already gone) rip your pants off and go to town on you.
The one downside to this place is that I've never really gotten a good vibe from any of the bartenders. They seem a little dickish. Especially this one really tall one with red hair. He's an arrogant ass.
They have a pretty good beer selection, except that nothing was really out of the ordinary. They had 3 IPA's on tap, Stone, Dogfish Head, & another that wasn't even worth remembering the name.
Tried the wings, because of the comments on here. I got Hot with the Chipotle LIme on the side. Hot is definitely not hot enough... pretty mild. The Chipotle Lime sauce is pretty good as a dipper, instead of blue cheese.
I was in Conshy for a night and wanted to go grab a good meal and some drinks afterwards. Flanigan's was the perfect place. We went to the restaurant portion first that was connected to the bar and it was good. The food was good, not great, but good and it satisfied my hunger. A good price and a good variety.
What I learned with dinner, though, is that they had a draft-beer selection the size of Pennsylvania. It was extremely extensive and simply wonderful.
The bar was great. It had a college feel (I was there on a Friday), but also contained a good mix of people so if you're a little older you don't feel out of place. It was also crowded at points, but never got to the point where it was uncomfortably crowded and most of the time, there was room to move. It was a perfect size, I'd say.
It was a great bar, great atmosphere and just a good vibe. I really enjoyed myself and if I'm ever in the area again, I'll plan another nightly outing to the Boathouse. The reason it got four stars instead of five was based on the restaurant portion. However, heard the wings there are awesome, so I'd try those if I went again. The bar was 5 stars plus a couple!!
This is a frustrating bar to review. It has some great pluses, but the minuses are so much more.
The unfriendly, unresponsive bartenders who don't seem to care if you ever come back.
The food STINKS! Â Once i got sliders...easy enough to cook you would think...they were like rubber. the sliders were half the size of the bun, so it was thick bread and overcooked meat. Next time I got a "pulled pork" sandwich. Â sounds good...but it wasn't pulled pork...it was sliced pork which was ENTIRELY different. it was a decent sandwich, but it wasn't what was advertised.
Okay, so trivia night was nice and there are a ton of tv's to watch games...but if the food is awful and the help sucks...what is the point of going.
This place could be good...but it isn't...new management would help!!
This place serves the best wings in Conshy! Â I highly recommend the chipotle lime.
Seems like a hot spot for locals - it's always busy when I go there. Â I guess "bar crawls" in Conshohocken consist of all but two bars. Â Seriously, not a lot of options in this city...
That being said, if you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy a meal, this isn't it. Â Think: high quality bar food. Â If that's your thing, then you will enjoy this place. Â The bottle list is a mile long and they have a decent selection of draft beers as well. Â (Hey, any place that has Hoegaarden on draft gets at least 3 stars in my book...)
If I could give this 3.5 stars I would.
My friend and I went in for lunch last Saturday. The sign said to wait to be seated but no one was around so we walked into the restaurant area..a waitress finally saw us and said sit wherever. The place was DEAD. I'm not sure if this place is normally crowded or what but for 12:30 it seemed pretty eerie.
We ordered a hummus platter to start with which was well to be honest really unappetizing looking. It was a HUGE bowl of red pepper hummus a few pita triangles and carrots and broccoli, very odd...at least for me to have carrots and broccoli with hummus?!? It just really had no taste either and to serve it with bland veggies--not too great.
Shorlty after, our salads arrived. I had the chinese chicken salad and my friend got the BBQ chicken salad. My salad was really good but dripping with dressing. My friend seemed just OK with hers, she said the BBQ chicken was cold as in chilled which seemed a bit odd but who knows. We had 2 different waiters/waitresses throughout our meal(I guess since no one was in there) so I don't even know who got the tip.
Overall it wasn't that bad but had the potential to be really good...maybe next time.
D00d, this joint hits the bull's eye. Seriously, Wednesday nights are a good time. Pitchers and wings. One pitcher of whatever is on draft and a plate of wings. So many sauces to choose from. I was recommended the chipotle-lime and I will say this to you: do it.
Fun decor, TVs all over the place for whatever game is on, upstairs tables, downstairs long bar in the front and tables and booths in the back. Quiet family restaurant off to the side.
I'm not sure what the place is like on other nights, but it is definitely a low stress place to hang out with some friends, get drinks and some food, and really enjoy yourself.
You can easily get to it by taking the R6 Norristown to "Conshohocken" and then walking up the hill to the restaurant. Enjoy!
Looking for lunch in this area? Go here. You won't be grossed out, I promise, unless numerous fish tanks and nautical maps just aren't your thing. "Happy hour," thought (note air quotes) are another story entirely...I felt like a zoo animal on display amongst the many popped collars and pitchers of beer flowing freely to match the free wing special. And can we just talk a second about the ADD factor? Yes, I'm a little wacky, but come on...does one place need so many GD televisions? I couldn't even hold a conversation because everywhere I turned there was some wacky sports game going on or news or girls with boobs hanging out. And yes, ladies, as if the digital paradise outside isn't enough for you, you also get the pleasure and the privilege of having a TV in the bathroom. Sometimes a girl just wants a beer and a little conversation...if you're that girl, then get your ass out of this place and go somewhere else STAT! I'd say the epileptic seizure factor of too much radio static coupled with the high sausage factor is enough to keep me out after 1:15 pm forever.
But hey, Dave H....thanks for putting together an unofficial happy hour. It's always a joy to see you guys in different places, and my oh my, was this different for me!
Went here last night for the Wednesday night happy hour - free pitcher with wings...wait, or was it the other way around? Â Haha, that's what we all saw it as, at least. Â The wings were really yummy and the pitchers, large. Â I tried out their chicken nachos and wasn't that impressed. Â Their toppings were not spread out evenly (as the jalapenos were all chilling with each other on 1/2 the plate while the cubes of chicken were chilling on the other side not wanting anything to do with jalapenos). Â When I get nachos I want my toppings to look like they exploded all over the chips. Â
Service for a big crowd was pretty good. Â Manager gave me change for $20 in a jiffy and the bartenders are all pretty attentive. Â
I wish the sign outside was a little larger though, I kinda passed by it a couple of times before realizing that well..I had passed by it a couple of times. Â
I'll probably be back if people want to meet up for a happy hour again, but not quite sure if I would go out of my way to make it down there.
5 Stars for the company - we had an unofficial Yelp/Dave's work/friends meetup here and that part was fun. Â We were a large group - around 15-20 at various times, and we had a couple of tables in the back of th ground floor. Â
I did not think our service was particularly good, but I guess that's what you get for showing up on Wednesday, when it's 10 wings free with a pitcher of beer. Â It was a mob scene - which was only exacerbated by our large party. Â I think our server, Teresa, did as well as can be expected. Â But it was difficult to get drinks. Â When Carrie showed up it took her quite a while to get just a diet coke - even a personal trip to the bar didn't yield anything, because they were busy there, too.
The beer selection is good, though. Â They have Smithwick's on tap, which always makes me happy, as well as Sam Adams' seasonal and various microbrews. Â (I never make it past Smithwick's.) Â There are TVs everywhere, even though they're old 20" CRTs for the most part, you can still watch your game pretty easily no matter where you are. Â Just don't expect HD. Â
The wings are just OK IMO. Â I am kinda picky about my wings I guess, but these just aren't to my liking. Â They are meaty, which is good. Â But I prefer mine wet, which these were not, and the hot wings aren't very hot. Â The blue cheese served with them isn't good - cheap and runny instead of thick and lumpy. Â BUT they were free, so I can't complain about that. Â I ordered the steak panini for dinner - and I had a huge lump in my belly for hours afterwards, unfortunately.
If you are looking for greasy bar food - wings, nachos, fried cheese sticks - to accompany your delicious beer then Flanigan's will suffice. Â Free wings on Wednesday's might be the only way to get me to go back, just because who doesn't like something free? Â But otherwise....I'll stick to the Malvern location because it at least has an outdoor deck.
Wing-it Wednesdays! Â As the other reviewers mentioned, Wednesdays are good nights to hit up the Boathouse...sesame wings are my fav...yum! Â I've gone there a few times recently to watch college hoops with friends and the staff is usually friendly enough to put the game on a tv closest to our table. Â They have a typical bar food menu, but I am a fan of their burgers.
Weekend crowd can be hit or miss...probably a better crowd during the winter...and I've definitely seen a wide age range of people...the older crowd before 11pm, and the 21 year olds come out after.
Still looking for a good after work bar to drink and socialize and I might have found a regular at "The Boathouse". I have been with the family on a Sunday for dinner and didn't think it would be such an after work spot but after going on a Wednesday...Definately a happy hours place.
FREE WINGS!! with every pitcher on Wednesday, can't go wrong with that. A little crowded but par the course for any good happy hour. Mixed drinks weren't too pricey and the pitchers were down right cheap. Since I live in Conshy this might become the place of choice on Wednesdays.
Out of few bar/pubs in Conshohocken this is one of the good ones to hang out with friends. Good crowd specially on friday/saturday and on sports nite. On wednesday they have wing-at-wednesday; with every pitcher you get 10 wings free..my personal fav 'Chipotle Lime Wings'
They do have lot of seating area some are in midst of crowded bar but if you dont want the noise they do have seperate seating sections where you can have nice good time with whoever the hell you are with.
