We walked into this place and it smelt like bad fish. We chalked this up to a recently cooked piece of fish and made a mental note to steer clear of the seafood options...but who goes to a restaurant with a sports bar attached for quality seafood? Also, at 8:30pm on a Friday night the restaurant was a ghost town and the bar was half full with mostly regulars.

The menu is huge with almost too many options...from burgers, to wings, to pasta options, to steak tips, to pizzas, to seafood entrees, ect. Variety is nice, however when a menu is this expansive it is impossible that everything on the menu is ordered frequently.  Then, because the inventory isn't turned over quickly enough, food sits in the freezer or pantry and becomes stale. I would rather see a menu with 15 - 20 items that are freshly prepared than several pages of frozen mediocrity. Most of the appetizers (French fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, ect.) are all frozen, nothing fresh.

I ordered a Caesar salad and my wife ordered a cheeseburger club. My salad was clearly pre-made and must have been sitting in a refrigerator for hours. The dish was ice cold and the lettuce was wilted and the croutons were a soggy mush. Furthermore, the salad was dowsed with so much dressing it was dripping off the fork. The frozen hamburger patty in my wife's cheeseburger club was clearly freezer burnt (or worse) and had to be sent back as it was uneatable. My wife then substituted her order with a Caesar salad that was clearly freshly made as her lettuce was crisp, her croutons were crunchy and it was appropriately dressed. Both of us ordered the same item and had drastically different dishes.

The one bright spot was our server who was polite, responsive and apologetic. She didn't make us feel bad for sending the cheeseburger back. Also, to be fair she did ask if my salad was OK and I didn't say anything...but at that point we were just looking to get on our way.

I believe the Fowler House would be well served by trimming down their menu and focusing on the items they do well...which seemed to be their pizzas which looked quite tasty.

Odd thing to notice, but our Guinness got poured way too fast! Appreciate the quick service but...it's a Guinness. Maybe we're too picky!

My sister and I have been going here every few weeks for a few months now. We sit in the restaurant area so we can talk, and we appreciate that it is separate from the sports bar section. I don't mind the tvs and fun, but  we get together to chat with each other.
Once seated, we have had consistently wonderful service from the staff.
The food has also been great! Steak tips have a lot of flavor, and I love the way they roast the vegetables. We make room for dessert whether we have room or not, so we may bring that home, but it is good! The bread pudding and lemon cake have been my faves so far, while my sister's is the chocolate cake.
I am not an adventurous food type. I like my food cooked, and I like to see what it is. Fowler House does both of those things. It also has good flavoring, which I read in some previous reviews was not the case. Maybe things have changed for the better, but it's a good place to go to watch the games, socialize, and relax.
In case some people are not into having children around, this is a family place and there are kids eating, too. Enjoy them. Life is short:)

I went here for a beer and pizza.  The bar had a good sized crowd. We sat on the restaurant side.  The pizza was  OK - nothing special.  The waitress was super friendly.  I would go back and try an entree.

Decent food, fun atmosphere, plenty of space to move around. I feel like this place falls under the "why don't we ever come here?" Category. I need to hit this place up more often.

Went to the Fowler House Friday night. Got there about 7:00 right as the Bruins game started. Got a table in the bar. The bar area was loud and somewhat crowded.  Everyone was watching the Bruins which was fine with me.  Many people seem to know each other, definetly a local hangout. Waiter was great. We got a couple of entrees and an app. I ordered steak tips and a baked potato. Order came back with mashed, so I had to wait a bit for the change. Tips were good, not great quality, but its a pub and they were only $14. You do get 5 good size tips, so I did take home half the meal.
I would go there again, seems like a fun place to cheer on any sports team. Though if you don't like the noise you can always go into the separate dining room. Lots of parking in the surrounding area.   Over all a good value for the money.

This is a joint.  My wife got me involved in it when we first started dating.  That was back in 1998, and the place has always been solid in both food and service.  The thing is that I've never gone there and totally fallen in love with the place, but I've also never eaten badly.  I think I'd love to go 3 1/2 stars on this place, because it's simply a solid joint in all facets, but nothing spectacular

Haven't been to the Fowler House in a long time and now I know why.   The food was tasteless and bland.  The waitress very inattentive, twice I asked for bread and butter and never got it.  And seriously what restaurant doesn't give you at least 1 refill on soda?  $4.00 for two diet Pepsi which was mostly ice!!!   We both had steak tips, and while to portion size was big, I had the terriyaki and my friend had the marinade...both were tasteless.  I got the creamy lemon cream cake(according to the menu)  that was anything but creamy as it was ice cold and hard .  $70 for two people is outrageous...Also when another waitress was taking an order two tables over, she had her ass on the table behind her, gross.....next time we will go to Grumpy's steak tips and service are much better...

Friendliest staff, and friendliest regulars anywhere.  I've been here a few times over the years without thinking much of it....was never a regular, just seemed like a friendly, laid back place.  I recently moved to the area...walking distance actually, and I love it.  Make no mistake, it's not fine dining...if you go in there expecting that, you are an idiot.  It is a nice neighborhood bar, that has good pizza, cold beer, and a friendly comfy atmosphere...no reason not to love it.

methinks this place is a total scam.

3 pm and we went in, asked if they were open and they welcomed us.......then we were treated like we were not even there.  People taking out trash, kids running around, no water, and they couldn't wait for us to leave.

The food didn't match the nice chalkboard menu.  3 people for 38 bucks, food was not as expected and we had rotten service.  I could have burned the cash and felt better.

Next time just close rather than squeeze in one more sucker.

This is one of our favorite local restaurants  in Quincy. They finally had a groupon deal the other day. We bought it and went the same day. I think we were there first ever groupon customers. The service was great as usual, even better in fact. The dinner deal allowed us to explore some new things on the menu. We ha the baked potato skins as an app. They had just the right amount of potato to cheese ratio. For dinner I had the assorted seafood dinner with stuffed shrimp, baked fish and scallops. They were all really good, but the stuffed shrimp was a little dry. My husband  had the buffalo chicken sandwich. Which is a favorite or ours. It comes with their great fries. In general, this place has good bar style food, including bar style pizza. A good atmosphere if you eat in the restraint half, and usually isn't very busy. I also know they now have good seafood too!

Excellent food, excellent service, and reasonably priced. They have a menu with something for everyone, ranging from comfort food to light fare. The penne, chicken & broccoli was perfect in the wine & garlic glaze. The portions are not outlandish either. Next time I am in the Boston area, I will definitely be coming back for dinner.

I've never had any luck with their entrees, although my partner claims they have the best baked stuffed shrimp. Wide mix of patrons--Families to young couples to townie folk. My only criticism is the inconsistencies, whether it's with service or quality of food. After many visits, I recommend ordering a pizza and a beer at the bar.

I have never had a bad meal at this place and the prices are incredible as well.  If you want the best meal in Quincy, believe it or not, you'll probably find it here.  The restaurant area is a little run down, but after the incredible meal you'll share, you'll find it was irrelevant.  The polo limone is one of my favorites, and I recently had a rib eye special that was very good.  The portions are always enough to have lunch the next day.  Their bar pizza is incredible and I've seen them hand out free pizzas to share at the bar during games, etc.  Really great bar that takes care of their patrons and those chefs or cooks back there do an incredible job.  I like that you can add a salad or soup to your entree for only $1.99 extra - they really think of everything and it is greatly appreciated!

Vistied FHC with my husband. I got the Shrimp Scampi and he got steak tips. The dinner was fabulous. The waitress while not overly nice or attentive but did a pretty decent job keeping us happy. My only complaint is that I got a slice of carrot cake to go. She put my leftover scampi in a styrofoam container and the cake in another. By the time I got home the scampi "juice" was all over the bag and had leaked into the carrot cake. I had to throw the cake away. My suggestion. Wrap anything that could possible leak in plastic wrap or foil. That extra effort would have earned them a 5 star review...

Downgrade !  Wife's Buffalo chicken salad came on noticeably wilted lettuce, with visible brown edges.  The heat of the meat did not do that.  In addition, the chicken came grilled, and was completely unlike the lightly breaded ones they serve as apps.

It was crazy noisy and crowded, forget trying to play Keno.  I don't know why it was so popular with the after work crowd, I wasn't getting any warm vibe like at Coop's.

The Fowler house has better food than the exterior would indicate. I'm a particular fan of their chowder in a bread bowl, so I'm getting lazy about ordering anything else. Not that their chowder is the best, but the combination is great.

This is a great place for families and for meeting friends for drinks & appetizers. The prices are very reasonable and the food is consistenly great. The servers have always been very helpful and accomodating. Their greek pizza with spinach, feta, & olives is very good. Their steak tips are the best around and their potatoes are detinitely home made. I'm definitely a fan of their buffalo fingers.. they are lightly breaded and have varying spicy degrees. Sometimes I dine alone and grab a quick bite to eat and the bartenders are always great. Keep up the great work!!!

My friends and I frequent The Fowler House. Moderately priced, decent comfort food, awesome TVs for watching the game in the bar area, separate, intimate dining area, and fairly attentive servers.

However, I would like to touch upon a specific experience that I had here last summer, that still sticks in my mind.

My girlfriends and I stopped in on a Friday evening and our waitress was a woman named Mara (perhaps there was an "h" on the end, but as I said, it was nearly a year ago), whom we had never met. She was not very friendly, from the start, almost border lining on rude. As the night wore on, the experience became worse. Just a few examples of the problems we had with her:
A friend of mine ordered a Hawaiian pizza, light on the pineapple. Mara broke in and said "I can't control how much pineapple they put on the pizza. I don't make it."
When we wanted to pay, we asked to split the check between all five of our credit cards. She said "No, I can only do two." My friend, thinking that maybe she might be new, said, quite politely, "Oh really? Ok, I'm just pretty sure that we've done more than two before." And she snapped, "No, I can't."
So one of my friends offered to put the entire thing on her card and have us all pay her back. Mara took the card over to the machine, which was a few feet from us, slid it once, came back and said "It won't work, I tried three times." At this point, I pulled out my credit card and handed it to her. My friend, who's card didn't scan, was a bit annoyed and said "Oh, that's strange. I've never had trouble with it before. Is there any way you could punch the numbers in?" She simply said "No." And began to walk away to try my card. As she left, she muttered, rather loudly, under her breath. My friend said "Excuse me? Did you say something?" She whipped around and said "If I could type the numbers in, I would have TOLD you!"

I was pretty livid at this point. As I said, my friends and I go here quite often and we have never had any sort of problems. After we left, I called and asked to speak to the manager, I was given to a manager named (I think) Mike. He listened to the whole story, apologized profusely and told us that he was not sure why she would have told us that she could not split the check five ways, because she could have. He said it may have been because she was fairly new. That would be fine, if we hadn't suggested that to her!!! He told me that he appreciated us letting him know about the problem and that he would address it. He also told me to ask for him when we came in next and he would make it right, maybe with free pizzas. He was very professional.

We never asked for our free pizzas, but we continue to patronize this business. This is a perfect example of how good management, fabulous people skills, and the willingness to make things right can turn a bad situation into a good one. Other facilities should take note!

Super nice and attentive bartender. Never leaves my beer empty!

I had the wing dings here. Very good and the hot sauce has a nice kick! The tiramisu, however, was not so good according to my friend. It has the fridge taste. Probably sitting around too long.

Nice place for a beer and catching up with a friend.

Visited with another couple who had never been before and we weren't disappointed. I tried to describe it to them (as I did in my former post) as a small scale Town Spa; a hangout  for the locals with the bar area on one side and the "dining room" on the other. Fowler, however, has better prices ($5.50 versus Town Spa's $7.30 for a plain cheese pizza) and a little more variety on their menu. Plus, I don't see Town Spa offering a free cheese pizza when you order three!

Two of us ordered pizzas and the other two ordered steak tips, cooked in the house marinade. The steak tips were cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Wish they didn't charge extra for broccoli, though! The pizza was well recieved and cooked well, just the way it was ordered.

For the two pizzas, two orders of steak tips, six beers and two cocktails, the bill came to about $100. Not too shabby.

Fowler won't win a 5th star from me until they can improve their service. The bartenders are great, but their waitresses seriously need to pick up the pace.

I don't have much to say:
    * The eating/dining area is tiny
** And the pizza is the small, personal size
*** And most importantly, the pizza is yummy! Really yummy!
It's crunchy and sorta thin crust. My favorite!

(If you've ever been to Town Spa, it's practically the same thing).

They should turn the lights up a bit because they think they're fancy and try to portray that by dimming the lights, but it was like pitch dark in there. Anyways, the pizza really hits the spot that they could have dog crap on the table as a centerpiece and I'd still be a fan.

Went there a week ago with my SO and another couple, big mistake.  Went there because it was convenient and because I heard it was OK.   The food in a word is DISGUSTING.     My wife had the shrimp scampi which was watered down, and overcooked.  My steak tips were chewy and tasted off.  Everyone's salads looked like they were made a day ago.  One of the other guests had the chicken parm which must of been reheated as it was rubbery.

Mentioning this to the waitress resulted in a blank stare as if she didn't care.  On a positive note, the beer was as cold as the waitstaff

My review is in need of an update.

I like to come here for a quick bite to eat and wash the food down with plenty of Miller Light ($3 for 20 oz.).  I like to get the cheese burger (always good but better if the cooks cook it the way I ask), also the cheeseburger club is amazing, and how can I forget their pizzas.  The pizza is not the best but its cheap and you really could not ask for a better pie if you are there to get down to business downing some cheap beer.

However I tend to avoid this place after sundown as I do not fit into the social scene since I did not go to high school in the South Shore.  Lots of townies who really don't care to expand their social circles beyond high school.

Overall it's a great place to grab a couple apps and beers with friends.

Pretty straight forward pub grub......The bar-sytle pizza is great, and about $4 for an individula pie.  The Buffalo Fingers are good too.....real Chicken, not heavily battered and fried.  Other thafood is good, but nothing to get excited about.

I love this place.  It is a no frill restaurant and seems a little outdated but for the price and quality of food it is my go to place.  Good place to watch a game too.  The waitress are mostly all pretty good (of course there are one or two not so good) and always make sure your beer is not empty.

Try the buffalo chicken pizza, cheeseburger club, bow tie pasta dish and spinach dip appetizer.

I have been here a couple of times before, but never for dinner until this weekend. Fowler House is known for their pizza and pub fare, but I tried one of their new menu selections- pan-seared Salmon w/  tomato/spinach risotto. It was delicious! The salmon was cooked perfectly. It was also quite a large portion! The service was prompt and friendly, as well. Overall, this is a a friendly neighborhood restaurant with great food. Also, a good place to grab a beer and watch the game with friends. I'm sure I'll be back.

I don't live in the neighborhood and only get to Fowler House every few months to meet friends, but when I do go, I am never disappointed.

It's not a fancy place, but that's not what it's meant to be.  It's just a cool place to hang out or grab a bite to eat after work.

I've never had an issue with service, and I LOVE their pizza!  And with a deal like "buy 3 pizzas get 1 free," how can you go wrong?

What is with all the hate towards this place?  Yikes!  It's just like Finian's and Villa Rosa, I guess I love me these underdog Quincy homeplaces of old!

My only reason for four stars - the service.  It has been kind of off and on spotty over the years in getting seated, having your waitress realize you are "theirs" (usually once they know they're pretty good) and getting refills when it's busy.  However, the past year (2010) it has been better, and I've had an overall good experience and very good waitresses, so I hope whatever they're doing they keep it up.

As to the food - over ten years going there, no complaints ever.  Absolutely awesome.  The pizza is yummy bar pizza, and the entrees have always been consistent.  And, people, where else can you add a dinner salad for $1.00 to an entree, and it actually is big and filling?  Not since the eighties elsewhere.

If nothing else, you can get the pizza to go and it's a steal.  Don't live near there (I'm an Alumni neighborhood girl), but I would go there regularly for takeout if I did!

The dining room is nice and quiet, and the bar is your typical Quincy bar scene.

This place was a big disappointment. The service was indifferent.  When dropping off the food the waitress looked over our thee empty soda glass and asked "anything else just now?" Duh. How about some refills?   The spaghetti sauce was too spicy to tolerate.   Avoid.

Heard great things about this place for a while, finally went a few weeks ago.  We waited about 15 minutes for a table on a Friday night, which is fine, and ended up getting a high table in the bar section.  The dining room was busy, but still fairly quiet, and it seemed nice.

The bar was busy but not crazy, and we were able to have our dinner and conversation without shouting over the noise.  I can see how this place would be crazy during a Sox or Pats game though.  The setup of the bar area was great for sports events - lots of plasma TVs located around the room so you could see from where ever you were.

As far as  the food...  I have 2 words.  SIRLOIN TIPS.  Oh my God they were amazing - and SO MUCH!  I had plenty for leftovers for lunch the next day.  My boyfriend's bar pizza was pretty good, too.  Our waitress was nice and kept the drinks refilled.  We will definitely be going back.

I came here over the football season  if I wanted to watch the Patriots play outside of my living room. I live around the corner so I thought it was a good place to watch the game and have a few drinks.

There was an eclectic group of people watching the games, which made it a good place. Everyone was friendly and if you wanted to just watch the game in silence then you could.

I haven't eatien here much outside of the games, but it was a good place to watch games.

If you are looking for "bar pizza," look no further.  The pizzas are thin, personally sized, and served on a metal pizza pan.  Buy 3 and you get a free cheese.  The rest of the menu is also really good: apps, burgers, pastas.  Haven't had anything bad here yet.  The cookie pie dessert was pretty slamming too.

Also, there is a separate bar side (with the actual bar and booths and high top tables) and restaurant, but they serve the same menu.  So, if you are feeling like bar food and their prices, but want to dine a little fancier, hit up the right hand side of the restaurant.

Also agree about the pizza,  there is always a constant flow of people just getting them to go.  All of the apps are good too and who can say no to the free goldfish crackers in a carafe at the bar?

I've lost count of the number of times I've had my ass handed to me at Golden Tee in the bar while stuffing my face with their pizza, nachos, chicken tendies and fries and watching a sox or pats game.  I've also heard good things about the pasta dishes but have never tried them myself.

For good pub food head to the Fowler House.  They have parking in the back if you can't find a spot out front on Hancock St.  I am sure some people won't agree with me but I truly believe they have the best pizza in Quincy, maybe even the South Shore.  It is always perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of toppings.  The wing dings are deelish...yes I realize these are frozen things dipped in a deep fryer but they do a great job with them.  They have a good sized menu and all of it is fantastic.  Apps, salads, and entrees, I have never had a bad anything there and I have been going there for a long time.  They have a mushroom ravioli in a cream sauce with several different types of mushrooms in it and it is soooo good.
Again, this is a pub/bar so don't expect fine dining but it is a great place to go whether you are on a date or hanging with friends.  There are big screen t.v.'s on the bar side and a quiet dining side.  Their drinks are quite tasty too:-)
Service is always satisfactory, never amazing, never horrible.
    Good times...
