Stopped in for a Tuesday lunch. Â I had the mushroom/swiss burger, my wife had a crab cake sandwich (special of the day) - both about $9 and came with fries. Â The burger was great and the crab cake sandwich was really good. Â Our server was friendly and prompt. Â Great place, will be back sometime.
Review Source:Awesome food. I was thinking it would be more like a bar but its more sports bar/restaurant to me. Very clean and lost of TVs. Â Husband got French dip and I got mushroom and Swiss burger. Â Both were fantastic. Â All the waitresses were working hard and we didn't wait long at all. Â Would totally go back!
Review Source:I have only been to Francies once but I was surprised at how nice it was inside. The menu was your typical sports bars' but everyone that ordered liked what they got. I went with the chicken philly and it was pretty solid. I will need to try the burger as Lindsay A. suggests. I blogged about my experience so feel free to check out my review and pictures below for this and many other Des Moines restaurants.

Went on a Monday night, 8 p.m. Â I was staying down the street at Hampton Inn for the night. Â There were very few tables open and only 2 servers so the wait for food/drink was painful. Â We ordered a hamburger with mushrooms/swiss/fries and the buffalo wings. Â Â Both were very good but nothing exceptional. Â The wings were drummies only (as stated on the menu) and there was no choice of sauce but they were meaty and tastey. Â All in all an A-OK rating. Â Not a lot of restaurant selections around the south side/airport area.
Review Source:I went to Francies with my girlfriend when I was moving back to Milwaukee from California and we stopped overnight in Des Moines. The ambiance was really great, had the midwest feel of warmth and friendliness. It was like a homecoming. The food was delicious and they had decent beer on tap.
Review Source:So far, the best burger and fries i have had in Des Moines. we walked in at 12:20, the place was busy, and we were served right away. the food was hot and fresh, and the fries are AWESOME! Â we had the swiss mushroom burger, and the traditional with pepper cheese. fresh veggies on the side, and the table and surrounding were extra clean. They have 11 tv's that i counted, and the noise level was not bad at all.
Review Source:I have visited Francies a few times now since moving to DSM. Â Every time they are full but we always seem to find a table quickly. Â For being busy every time we have been there it seems like the wait staff keeps up pretty well. Â The beers were cold and tap prices seem to be pretty average.
The food we had were burgers and fries. Â Both were good but not to die for. Â Still I will be back again because I enjoyed the sports bar atmosphere.
Francies is a good local watering hole with a pretty decent menu and a good place to catch a game on TV. Â They have some of the better buffalo wings in town although they are pricey for what you get. Â The menu consists mostly of sandwiches and burgers, some are really out of the ordinary like the buffalo chicken philly sandwich which is grilled chicken in hot sauce on a bun and covered with melted cheese and grilled onions and peppers. Â My only beef with Francies is that their menu is pretty limited. Â It's a good place to go if in the area but not a place to drive across town for.
Review Source:This place was highly recommended by the staff at Elliott Aviation at the airport. I'm here to tell you that maybe you should consider driving a bit further up the road. I had the burger, and while it was okay, it didn't exactly leave me with the impression that I need to come back and get another the next time I'm in town.
Review Source:Probably the nicest "neighborhood" sports bar in at least South, if not all of Des Moines. Kinda hard to find if you don't know where it's at, and pretty small inside and generally busy, which can sometimes lead to slow service.
Clean, good food, reasonable beer selection, and Moscow Mules in copper cups. They have a ton of TVs as well.
Highly recommended if you're in that part of town!
Francie's Sports Bar is another one of my local favs. They have the BEST burgers in Des Moines and the crinkle cut fries are really great as well. The only non-burger menu item I've tried was the chicken fingers, which were good but not extraordinary. I've heard raves about their nachos and other sandwiches, but I tend to stick with the All American Burger. Â
The only downfall to Francie's is the service. It's very, very slow and the place gets crowded quickly at mealtimes. Plan to spend some time, though, and it'll be worth the wait!
