I was told by a local to go eat here while watching one of the rarest sea lions on here on the North Shore because supposedly they have the best shrimp on the island. So I had to check this place out. It was amazing! Very fresh of course I enjoyed the coconut shrimp and then of course shrimp cocktail! I definitely do want to go back. Unfortantly I me and my boy friend both did get sick from the food about an hour later. We both felt light headed and fell very ill for the rest of the day.
Review Source:Super fresh shrimp (the shell doesn't stick to the shrimp as much as at Kahuku), and the flavor is really good, but I still love Macky's Spicy Garlic because they give you a ton of sauce and it's a little thicker consistency.
If you're a fan of butter garlic shrimp flavor, Fumi's does it better than Giovanni's.
YUMMMMMM~!!! Love the sauce!!! Love Shrimps!!! hated the tiny little piece of a pineapple... Â Why can't they give us a nice fat piece of a pineapple that actually taste like a pineapple?! Â Pineapple thing was a big disappointment, but LOVED the shrimps!!! I'd love to eat here again~!!!
Review Source:I used to love this place! They were always friendly and the girl remembers us whenever we came. (we get a lot of visitors) I know they have opened a location down the way so she is probably working there but I haven't been yet. The last 2 times I've been to this truck location, the service sucked, this girl isn't very nice either. Yesterday, they didn't put very much of the spicy garlic sauce on my shrimp & rice (so dry) as they normally do. I went back to ask for more sauce, she told me, "you have to wait" so I waited...and waited...no sauce. I work in the service industry as well, so I can understand it's hectic when it gets busy so I dealt with it. I will just have to take my visitors to the new blue location then!!! ^_^
Review Source:This place is to absolutely die for.
I got the garlic shrimp. It was practically peeling itself! It was so tender and fresh. The sauce was soooooo good too. I've never been so in love with shrimp sauce. I ruined the perfect half circles of the rice by mixing it into the sauce. YUUUUUM.
There are two sinks by the outside seating area and a bathroom around back. The bathroom is very clean! I was really worried because this place looks a little... intimidating and run down, but it is clean, clean, clean!
The only downside is the price. It's like $12 for rice and shrimp, much more expensive than the $8 per pound at Boiling Crab in California that I'm used to. I shared mine with my brother though.
This is a must try!
FUMIS!! Literally the best shrimp on the island. Just forget about stopping anywhere else. I have been to this island many times and I have tried the shrimp from other trucks and it just does not compare to how amazing the food is at fumis. I have tried both the butter garlic and the spicy garlic. Both of those are amazing. I promise that you will not regret your visit!
Review Source:Stopped here for lunch, our tour guide said they had the best food and was voted #1 by Maxim magazine.  Not sure how reliable their food recs are and if I would rely on  that magazine for eats reviews, but whatever.
We ordered the lemon pepper shrimp and garlic shrimp plates, along with some corn on the cob and a container of noodles. Â The shrimp plates come with rice and head lettuce salad. Â The garlic shrimp was meh, once you peeled the shrimp most of the flavor was gone. Â However, the plain white rice which I could do without, got tasty once you mixed it with the "juice". Â The lemon pepper shrimp on the other hand was very tasty. Â The corn was dry and seemed a bit undercooked and the noodles were bland. Â
The lemon pepper shrimp is a definite winner here, but prices are high.
Moving along our North Shore adventure on the 4th of July... our next stop was Fumi's. Instead of ordering 2 plates (one for each of us) at the Famous Kahuku Shrimp Wagon, the BF and I shared a plate and then went to Fumi's to share a plate. Heck, it took an hour to get to this spot, we might as well try TWO shrimp trucks while we're at it!
There are 2 Fumi's shrimp trucks located in Kahuku. One is very close to Romy's, and the other is a little further down (if you're heading back to Haleiwa). I honestly don't know what the different between the two sites are, or if there is a difference. We ended up eating at the Fumi's which is located near Romy's, with the shrimp farm behind. There is ample parking and a TON of seating! MANY picnic benches with a huge tarp above to keep you out of the sun (or rain if applicable). There is also a sink with soap and paper towels (always a plus!) as well as a restroom (NOT a port-o-potty)... which is another plus!
I did notice a shave ice hole in the wall off to the side near the restroom as well. We didn't give them a try though.
Fumi's has pictures of plates as their menu. They have a variety of items. This is what I recall:
-original shrimp
-garlic butter shrimp
-hot and spicy shrimp
-spicy garlic shrimp
-lemon pepper shrimp
-fried coconut shrimp
-tempura shrimp
-fried fish (cod)
-cheeseburger w/ fries
-pork chops
-salt and pepper shrimp
-ginger shrimp
Prices range from $10-$12. We were looking at the menu and the Asian female behind the window stated that the garlic butter shrimp and the spicy garlic shrimp were the 2 most popular. Basically the spicy garlic shrimp is the same thing as the garlic butter shrimp but with spice, so we opted to try that one. We waited about 10 minutes for the plate and it was hot and fresh. Service was SUPER friendly and efficient!
<a href="http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=AJmzgXZb3vtep3ZFw2-qWA&userid=IXdmrbRu0veA-OuaP0URwQ">http://www.yelp.com/user…</a>
The plate comes with two scoops of white rice and a salad. Well, I take that back. It's romaine lettuce. As you can see from the picture, there were 5 pieces of romaine lettuce, fairly large pieces, and there was no dressing or offering of a dressing. I found this a bit... odd. It didn't match the plate. Maybe if the pieces were smaller and there was a dressing it would've made more sense. Also, there was a pineapple slice which was more of a garnish since it was extremely sour and not sweet.
Onto the shrimp. The shrimp are not that spicy. I would say it was a very mild spicy. The shrimp are a decent size and you can tell that the QUALITY of the shrimp is great; along with the fact that it was cooked perfectly! Alas... the taste was just not there. The garlic butter sauce was okay. It wasn't bad but it wasn't all that great. The 'spicy' aspect of the dish is actually what I think is Mae Ploy sauce. So it's kind of sweet/spicy/garlic/butter shrimp. It was okay. You get 10 shrimp. Again, for the price... I didn't feel that it was worth it for the taste.
So after shrimp truck #2, the BF and I felt disappointed. We are glad that we gave this place a try and at least now we know what the shrimp tastes like. We still would choose Blue Water's over Fumi's though. But, everyone has different preferences so I say give em a try.
CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM right next to the window so that's always a plus if all you've got is your debit card.
My husband and I come here almost every Sunday, and order the #7 Fried Cod for him, and the #2 Garlic Shrimp for myself. You can always depend on it tasting consistently good. We brought my parents here and they loved it ! They said it was so fresh and delicious. My husband loves the fried cod and I don't really care for that stuff ( Usually reminds me of something I would see in the frozen foods section), Although I did taste it and it was very good. Â Wish they were not so stingy on the napkins and the salt packages though.
Review Source:My daughter told me this is a must if i ever go to HI. Stoped there today, my wife had the garlic shrimp (#2) and I had the spicey garlic shrimp(#8) Off the hook. we ate at 4 shrimp trucks during our stay, this was by far the best.Nice people working there as well. My wife enjoyed speaking Chinese with the staff. Only posible thing that could make it better was if they sold Beer
Review Source:Hot Tip: Are you a rice eater? Purchase extra rice or better yet bring your rice cooker with cooked rice before you arrive. The shrimp here is extremely flavorful and you will love it with rice! Fumi does not sell rice as sides and you want to purchase the order of dozen and not combo! trust me!
Are you a foodie and have badges for discovering foodie dive joints? Hello, my name is Crystal and so am I and I have the oblige to share my foodie dive joints with you! Although, I cannot take the entire credit to discovering this place. My wonderful friend who is also a local to Kahuku introduced me to this shrimp heaven. Not only is Fumi a shrimp truck there is acres and acres of their shrimp farm in the backyard! Fresh shrimp from the backyard-- you cannot get better than that!
Food: Butter garlic shrimp and spicy shrimp.
Price: $ 1/2 = $9.99 for a dozen shrimp
My favorite tasting shrimp on the North Shore!
I had some extra time to kill one day, so I drove on up to Kahuku with the goal of seeing whether I'd always gone to Giovanni's because Giovanni's had the best tasting shrimp, or because Giovanni's just advertises more than the others. Thus, I went to all three of Giovanni's, Romy's, and Fumi's on the same day. In order to facilitate the best comparison I bought a garlic butter shrimp plate at each place. You won't believe it, but when placed side by side like that I COULD taste a difference. And the hands down winner was FUMI'S. Fumi's shrimp was actually sweeter than the others. (I've heard that Giovanni's will sell shrimp they bought elsewhere once their farmed stock has run out--is this true?) Those sweeter shrimp just tasted fresher. Plus, at Fumi's you get a "salad" (a handful of iceberg lettuce with a few drops of Italian dressing--a social gesture at best, but at least it's something else besides the rice).
Seating has always been plentiful when I've gone, but I've tried to stay away from the lunch rushes of high noon on purpose. And like lots of places, Fumi's is BYOB. So haul your cooler to your picnic table, crack a cold beer, and use it to wash down some tasty shrimp.
Prices are a bit steep for a plate of 12 shrimp and two scoops of rice, but Fumi's prices are on par with the rest of the shrimp trucks up there. They're all expensive if you ask me--especially considering they're selling out of a truck, meaning next to zero overhead. I have to believe these trucks are pulling in a pretty profit! But, again, that's a different story.
If you're jonseing for North Shore shrimp, don't be afraid to try Fumi's. You honestly won't regret passing up Giovanni's this once. I'll actually never go back to Giovanni's now. Â :)
This place is the BOMB. Â I keep coming back to it time and time again...
Forget the lines at the other shrimp trucks. Â Come to Fumi's and you're guaranteed not to wait 45 minutes or something ridiculous like that. Â All I know is that when hunger strikes Fumi's provides a nice/quick way to get my fix! Â The shrimps are just as good and they serve them with a slice of pineapple.
So far I have gotten the spicy garlic, which was very sizzling. Â And also I have gotten the garlic/spicy shrimp and it was oh so garlicky and delicious in my mouth!!
Try them!
After kayaking to Mokoli'i island then gallavanting around said island then back, a couple gets a tad bit hungry.  And the perfect way to satisfy those urges is with garlicky goodness drenched shrimp.  I may be a noob to these shrimp trucks, but I know good  taste when...I eat it.  My friends have said many good things about this place so I had to try it, I was just hoping the was gonna like it too.
Fumi's is located past Giovanni's with parking just along the side and in a gravel area. Â They seem to maintain the area quite nice, with ample seating and a tent to ensure more comfort to hungry eaters. Â They had a large menu of different kinds of shrimp and also offered burgers and fries. Â
We got up to the window and I ordered the garlic shrimp while the BF ordered the coconut shrimp-- and two bottled waters. Â When we got our orders, the portions were generous.

GARLIC SHRIMP

COCONUT SHRIMP
The Garlic shrimp came with about 12 shell on shrimp. I was a bit disappointed about the shell on business, but I suppose it helps keep the garlic in the shrimp, not too sure about that. Â I absolutely LOVED my meal. Â There was tons of butter & Garlic (which, yes, sounds so deliciously unhealthy, BUT, how often do we get to go to north shore and eat shrimp? Â not often at all, so we're good) Â My BF was "meh" about the coconut shrimp, though he declined to try my yummy garlic shrimp.
I really liked the set up here, the customer service was just right, and absolutely gave thumbs up to the garlicky butter shrimp and portion size. Â Another gold star was for the sink to wash off all that food from your hands. Â Just a helpful tip for Fumi's -- more trash bins would be awesome =)
Yelp 365 Challenge: 61/ 365
IMPATIENT. SHORTEST LINE. Â FUMIS. Regrets. Â Small portions. Hard, undercooked rice. Slimy, wet shrimp cocktail with no lemon wedge. Â Ate slippery cocktail with my fingertips and later made suds by rubbing my fingers together. SLIME SLIME SLIME. 9 tiny shrimp for 12 dolla. Â Tossed salad, no, quite literally, tossed. Â NEVER AGAIN!
FORGIVE MY LAPSE IN JUDGEMENT AND DISLOYALTY, OH GREAT, WHITE TRUCK.
PLEASE TAKE ME BACK GIOVANNNIIIIIIISSSSS!!!!
Went to Oahu a couple weeks ago and let me tell you.....
The food was absolutely fantastic! I know it sounds like im exaggerating but after eating various shrimp plates and dishes throughout my life and let me tell you this was my favorite shrimp i have ever tasted. This has exploded my cerebral functions as it was so great!
Random Tip-If you are going to stay around Oahu for a couple of days and want to come back here make sure you get a stamp card because five plates gets you a free shrimp plate!
Anyways i tried the hot and spicy and usually im not the sort of person that gets all excited over spicy dishes but wow my mouth was burning with flavour and i actually desired more! the sauce is mixed in real well with the shrimp and it doesnt give you that strong sea shrimp flavour as the shrimp farm is besides their truck! Freshest at its best!
Random tip 2- If you are picking a dish with alot of sauce might i suggest ask for a extra scoop of rice if you are hungry because there will be plenty of sauce left over for you to enjoy.
The other dished i've tried was butter garlic shrimp and the hardest part of making something with butter is putting too much of it, however, fumi's did this just right where none of the flavors was overpowering.
The other fried coconut shrimp plate was a little more on the crunchy side but the best part was when you reached the shrimp it wasn't hard or affected by the deep fried batter, very well done!
Well after many days filled with fumi's adventure in my taste buds, as i was leaving Oahu on the plane i started to crave that hot and spicy shrimp so much that i started drooling and i was not afraid to show it
Will be coming back here when i come back to Oahu most definitely even if i have to take a canoe here
Fumi's = Fabulous! ...in a shrimp truck kind of way.
When it comes to SPICY GARLIC BUTTAH SHRIMP, this is the spot! Â You get 2 scoops rice and 10 shrimp drowning in this beautiful sauce. Â Oh yeah and it comes with two sides of a salad and pineapple, both equally delicious ...if you eat those kind of ...health-food garnishments.
Another treat here is their shave ice! Â BUGGA HUGE! Â Of course, you know I rock the SHtrawBERRY flava, snow-capped with ice cream. Â It helps cool down the mouth from the shrimpy spicyness.
This is a great spot to stop by when you're driving around the island. Â While you're there check out their shrimp tank, where you can name your own shrimp right before their cooked! Â Just kidding, you can't name them. Â Other perks... working restrooms, shrimp farm ponds to swim in, and an endless amount of paper towels. Â Hurry before the lines get too long!
That's just my opinion.
Ok two words here:
Coconut Shrimp
No one does it like this... well, actually Paradise Bay in Sausalito does a good coconut shrimp  too but we'll save that review for later.
Fumi's is great! Its fast and easy for cheap eats as you cruise by the North Shore!  No one does it like they do.. using fresh coconut and that side of rice is like heaven as you dip that shrimp into their sauce - or not!  I, personally, don't care for most  sauces but theirs does compliment the coconut  shrimp.. yummy!
Fumi's also does great garlicky shrimp dishes too! Â
Its worth the stop!
Ginger shrimp. Â YUM! Â For a $12 combo plate, you get nearly a dozen fresh, juicy shrimp, two mounds of rice, a light salad, and a slice of pineapple. Â It's a bit pricey considering the food's coming out of a road-side stand and you're sitting at canopied picnic tables, but hey, props for the awesome business model!
I believe they're a little heavy on the butter, but not so much that it takes away from the taste of the shrimp. Â I also got to sample their garlic and spicy garlic varieties. Â Everything was delicious because their shrimp is just that good, but still prefer ginger :)
The only reason I'm giving this place 1 star is because I like the taste of their dressing.... I have no idea why we ever even tried this place..? Maybe because it had no line! The shrimp were small and the sauce was Just garlic chunks and butter, flavorless, really, which they don't give you hardly any you have you ask for more. Their salad is just plain ol' lettuce, boring! This joint is even more expensive than my favorite truck at North Shore. All in all, FAIL!
Review Source:Garlic Shrimp Garlic Shrimp Garlic Shrimp Garlic Shrimp Garlic Shrimp. Â That's the only thing you need to remember when you go to Fumi's Shrimp Truck.
You get roughly 10 pieces of shrimp, good size, generous garlic butter sauce, 2 scoops of rice, and a piece of pineapple. Â The garlic butter is amazing, but what really turns me off about this place is that you end up paying more than a $1 per shrimp.
Awwww sorry Fumi's. Shouldn't have come here right after going to Romys, which gives you prawns. I was pretty disappointed that this place only had shrimps-- so much smaller =( Same price and portion as another truck but would have liked to have prawns as an option. Flavor-wise, it wasn't too bad, you can definitely tell it's Chinese though because it has that distinct flavor to it. I love Chinese food and everything but once I taste that, that's all I can think of. Not bad of a place but I probably wouldn't come here again, sorry man.
Review Source:I'm confused because there was a stand with lotsa picnic benches called Fumi's and then a little ways down the road there was a truck called Fumi's. Â Which one did I eat at today? Â I ate at the one with picnic benches and was not a truck but a stand. Â I had the spicy garlic shrimp and it was friggin amazing. Â I could prolly drink a bowl of that sauce, what is in it?! Â My breath is kickin but I don't care I love that dish. Â The corn for 3 bucks is steep and was fine. Â I think my shrimp dish was $12. Â My poor hub who is allergic to shellfish ate the pork which looked sad and dry. Â I told him he could eat some of my rice but we didn't want to risk it and I was secretly glad because that sauce was so incredible I wanted to eat every last grain of rice that was soaked in it.
Review Source:Wow! Â I never stop at these shrimp stops because it always seems so touristy. Â What have I been missing out on!
I figure stop at Fumi's based on the opinions of some on another forum (FH). Â My wife and I shared a butter garlic plate (two scoops rice covered in a sweet garlic butter combo, salad greens, shrimp, and a pineapple wedge) and two ears of kahuku corn.
the Garlic is so sweet and yummy. Â Shrimp was cooled just perfect. Â Brah, the butter garlic was so good, no need shoyu on the rice!
Kahuku corn was good, too. Â Sweet as usual.
