To my knowledge, I may have never eaten the pizza from Gabe's Pizza - I've heard it's great. As a kid growing up in Indiana, my family went to Gabe's for one thing: the strombolis. I recently made a trip back, and I am happy to report that they taste exactly as amazing as I remember.
Technically, their strombolis aren't strombolis at all - they're grinders. But I don't care what they call them as long as they don't stop making them. It's a 10 or 12 inch hoagie-type roll filled with pizza sauce, crumbly sausage, and lots of melted cheese. There's something about the sweetness of the pizza sauce and the spiciness of the sausage that creates a magical land of tasty goodness and wonder in your mouth where the streets are made of cheese and trees are made of hoagie rolls.
I cannot adequately express my love for this sandwich, but if you're in the area and want a hefty meal that will fill you up with awesome and not drain your wallet, stop in at Gabe's and get a stromboli. And I always get mine with extra sauce!
