First thing first - I'm not a beer drinker (actually, everything alcohol but). Â So no beer review from our party, I'm just covering the food and I was the Half Moon virgin at the table.
Party of 6. Â Appetizers all around (spinach artichoke dip/chips, quesadillas) and meals or sandwiches for all.
Cliff Notes version - awesome grub! TV overload. I recommend and will definitely return.
Sweetie got the breaded tenderloin and fries, others at the table had the double pork chop dinner, ribs and chicken, cuban and house chips, pulled pork sammie and fries, and me w/ the beef brisket Smokie Okie and fries.
The tenderloin rated a solid performer w/ a B+ grade. The pork chop and rib/chicken dinners rated an A-, with top grades given to the remaining sandwiches. My only complaint on my brisket sandwich - it had cheese, though not the server's or establishment's fault - I just don't want cheese on my excellent smoked brisket (and smothered w/ really good cole slaw).
Portion sizes are above average. Doubtful you'll leave hungry here. And the house warm rolls w/ cinnamon butter was a nice warm up to our appetizers - although the quesadilla was a bit bland.
For a busy Saturday evening, the service was spot on, and the noise level was perfectly acceptable. Â Our server did ask if I wanted cream w/ my black decaf but no harm and gave a good chuckle to the table.
We'll be back and if as good as this time, they'll earn a bump to 5 star from me.
I am sooooo ashamed! It took me years to get to try this place out and now.....double WOW! Â The brisket was as delicious as the onion rings as the spare ribs as the cole slaw as were the milf and honey beer and cole porter beer.....and Jeremy - our server - what can I say about a knowledgeable, funny and attentive server but WOW!
Service was fast and everything was delivered hot and delicious. Enjoyed the trivia game and other sporting events that were televised. Food choices are very thorough and prices are very reasonable. We even had enough brisket to bring home for another meal. Three sauces are sweet, spicy and smokey - all very good - hard to choose between them, so it's good that they come in bottles so you can decide at the table.
Can't wait to get back there and try the other food/beer combinations.
What a fantastic, much-needed restaurant/brew/pub in an auto industry driven town. Half Moon is excellent. From the in-the-door greeting, to the very laid back, attentive, knowledgeable male server .... our experience was nothing short of perfect.
From our first intro at the table, our server welcomed us genuinely and warmly, offered information about the IPAs on hand, noted the differences between the taste factors and styles of them all ... then offered 'tasters' of whatever we wished to try. Quickly brought them to us and left us to sample and select.
The Scotch ale was the choice my date went with, I opted not to have a brew as it was a little early in the eve for me to savor with my meal.
The menu is full of expansive selections ... poultry, beef, pork abounds ... but there are also quality salads, fish and seafood, and pasta dishes to ponder.
I must say .... THE BBQ PORK RIBS ARE TO DIE FOR! Â They are meaty, and nearly fall off the bone! BBQ sauce is perfect ... the smokey flavor makes you think they've been steeping in quality smoked wood cookers for days ... a very natural flavor, not forced like so many others places utilize. The sauce is just pure and simply, understated in perfect ways. Â Not too sweet, not too spicy ... just flat out fab! Â I have to recommend the Half Moon creamed corn to compliment ... it's VERY good!
Served with two side choices this meal alone will fill you up for the day! Â AND a full slab of meaty rib goodness with two sides .... is UNDER $20. Â Yep, you read correctly.
I had the fish n chip meal ... the Alaskan white fish was offered as beer battered or hand breaded ... I have to say I will not be opting for the beer batter again. I was a little disappointed in that it was very oil soaked on my plate ... which was unfortunate because I really love fish n chips done right. The fish is a great flavor, but it was only after I peeled off the beer batter coating that I was able to enjoy it. I believe they simply need to take time to drain off the fryer oil before plating it, it would make that meal much better. I will try another item next time round. Â
I did get a side ceasar salad which was excellent and plentiful!
You may also get growlers there! Â They have specials through the week that offer 1/2 price which makes a growler $6, plus the $5 deposit on the jug, and you can refill it any brew pub in the STATE! Pretty cool. Â I love their growler jugs. Â Has simply their logo on it and that's that.
Our service was fantastic, only regret I can't recall his name because I'd like to give him props on here.
The atmosphere is cozy, which is surprising for the spaciousness of the place. Booths are snugged up where you feel secluded and private, but can see over the whole place. It's a clean place too, from the dining area to the bathrooms. A warm and inviting atmosphere which works well for a brew pub!
They also have a room suited for parties, complete with a full view fireplace.
I look forward to returning again ... food was quality, side options were many and off the normal selection path, which was much welcomed!
thanks, Half Moon, we'll be back for sure! Â Our tab was $40 (including a 20% gratuity we left), for the quality of food, a healthy brew, and excellent service ... you can't beat it!!
