First thing first - I'm not a beer drinker (actually, everything alcohol but). Â So no beer review from our party, I'm just covering the food and I was the Half Moon virgin at the table.
Party of 6. Â Appetizers all around (spinach artichoke dip/chips, quesadillas) and meals or sandwiches for all.
Cliff Notes version - awesome grub! TV overload. I recommend and will definitely return.
Sweetie got the breaded tenderloin and fries, others at the table had the double pork chop dinner, ribs and chicken, cuban and house chips, pulled pork sammie and fries, and me w/ the beef brisket Smokie Okie and fries.
The tenderloin rated a solid performer w/ a B+ grade. The pork chop and rib/chicken dinners rated an A-, with top grades given to the remaining sandwiches. My only complaint on my brisket sandwich - it had cheese, though not the server's or establishment's fault - I just don't want cheese on my excellent smoked brisket (and smothered w/ really good cole slaw).
Portion sizes are above average. Doubtful you'll leave hungry here. And the house warm rolls w/ cinnamon butter was a nice warm up to our appetizers - although the quesadilla was a bit bland.
For a busy Saturday evening, the service was spot on, and the noise level was perfectly acceptable. Â Our server did ask if I wanted cream w/ my black decaf but no harm and gave a good chuckle to the table.
We'll be back and if as good as this time, they'll earn a bump to 5 star from me.
I am sooooo ashamed! It took me years to get to try this place out and now.....double WOW! Â The brisket was as delicious as the onion rings as the spare ribs as the cole slaw as were the milf and honey beer and cole porter beer.....and Jeremy - our server - what can I say about a knowledgeable, funny and attentive server but WOW!
Service was fast and everything was delivered hot and delicious. Enjoyed the trivia game and other sporting events that were televised. Food choices are very thorough and prices are very reasonable. We even had enough brisket to bring home for another meal. Three sauces are sweet, spicy and smokey - all very good - hard to choose between them, so it's good that they come in bottles so you can decide at the table.
Can't wait to get back there and try the other food/beer combinations.
What a fantastic, much-needed restaurant/brew/pub in an auto industry driven town. Half Moon is excellent. From the in-the-door greeting, to the very laid back, attentive, knowledgeable male server .... our experience was nothing short of perfect.
From our first intro at the table, our server welcomed us genuinely and warmly, offered information about the IPAs on hand, noted the differences between the taste factors and styles of them all ... then offered 'tasters' of whatever we wished to try. Quickly brought them to us and left us to sample and select.
The Scotch ale was the choice my date went with, I opted not to have a brew as it was a little early in the eve for me to savor with my meal.
The menu is full of expansive selections ... poultry, beef, pork abounds ... but there are also quality salads, fish and seafood, and pasta dishes to ponder.
I must say .... THE BBQ PORK RIBS ARE TO DIE FOR! Â They are meaty, and nearly fall off the bone! BBQ sauce is perfect ... the smokey flavor makes you think they've been steeping in quality smoked wood cookers for days ... a very natural flavor, not forced like so many others places utilize. The sauce is just pure and simply, understated in perfect ways. Â Not too sweet, not too spicy ... just flat out fab! Â I have to recommend the Half Moon creamed corn to compliment ... it's VERY good!
Served with two side choices this meal alone will fill you up for the day! Â AND a full slab of meaty rib goodness with two sides .... is UNDER $20. Â Yep, you read correctly.
I had the fish n chip meal ... the Alaskan white fish was offered as beer battered or hand breaded ... I have to say I will not be opting for the beer batter again. I was a little disappointed in that it was very oil soaked on my plate ... which was unfortunate because I really love fish n chips done right. The fish is a great flavor, but it was only after I peeled off the beer batter coating that I was able to enjoy it. I believe they simply need to take time to drain off the fryer oil before plating it, it would make that meal much better. I will try another item next time round. Â
I did get a side ceasar salad which was excellent and plentiful!
You may also get growlers there! Â They have specials through the week that offer 1/2 price which makes a growler $6, plus the $5 deposit on the jug, and you can refill it any brew pub in the STATE! Pretty cool. Â I love their growler jugs. Â Has simply their logo on it and that's that.
Our service was fantastic, only regret I can't recall his name because I'd like to give him props on here.
The atmosphere is cozy, which is surprising for the spaciousness of the place. Booths are snugged up where you feel secluded and private, but can see over the whole place. It's a clean place too, from the dining area to the bathrooms. A warm and inviting atmosphere which works well for a brew pub!
They also have a room suited for parties, complete with a full view fireplace.
I look forward to returning again ... food was quality, side options were many and off the normal selection path, which was much welcomed!
thanks, Half Moon, we'll be back for sure! Â Our tab was $40 (including a 20% gratuity we left), for the quality of food, a healthy brew, and excellent service ... you can't beat it!!
I occasionally drive from the south side of Indy to work in Kokomo. I have seen the Half Moon and wanted to try it. I finally was in Kokomo at an appropriate time to have beer (and when they are open). I started with the pretzel breadsticks-they are not on the menu, but were on the board. IDK if they always have them, but they should! Delicious! I had the MILF n' honey beer. I throughly enjoyed it! It was missing something....Just needed a little more flavor. I had the pulled pork. I love pulled pork. An indicator of good pulled pork is how it tastes without sauce. It is served plain, and you pick your sauce (sweet, smoky or spicy). I tried the first two. First, the pork was excellent! It really didn't need sauce. My favorite sauce was the smoky. It was served with some chips, which apparently they make themselves, per someone elses review. They had a pumpkin bread pudding, which I also tried. It was okay. I wish I had gotten the pumpkin cheesecake. The bread pudding was more like a cake-I like mine a little more saucy (that really is my way of life-ha!). I also got a sample of the pumpkin beer or ale-whatever it was. Pretty tasty!!
I do like the decor-this place does not look like it belongs in Kokomo. If I lived closer, I would be a much more frequent customer. I have already been recommending this place to my friends, and I was just there six hours ago!!!
Never disappointed with service and the food at Half Moon. The beer is another story. Â I think they forget to put the hops into their IPA. The wheat ales are a little light also, but probably acceptable to the local Kokomo crowd.
HM is a great place and I highly recommend. Without a doubt its one of the better establishments in Kokomo.
I was excited to stop by on my way through Kokomo as I always love a good brewpub. The menu is quite large, but the specialty is BBQ, so I went with the combo plate. The chicken was very good and juicy, while the brisket and pulled pork were flavorful but a bit dry. Good sauce.
Beer was overall a disappointment. They have a lot of offerings, so I got a tasting flight of everything (good value). Unfortunately, they were all below average craft offerings suffering from lack of balance on some, low carbonation on many, or fermentation off-flavors. The amber ale was among the best, and was pretty drinkable with a nice roasted malt touch.
In a sea of generic chains Half Moon is a God send! It is definitely the place I go to just hang out for a while, play the NTN games, or watch a game. It's THE go to place I take out of town friends to make them feel at home. It's a place in Kokomo I am proud to bring people. So many friends commented that it reminds them of brewpubs in Broad Ripple or college towns.
Great decor and environment, with many TVs, a big party room, and a nice bar. It's like a sports bar so people can get boisterous and loud at times but c'mon, you didn't come to a brewery for a candlelit, romantic rendezvous.
The staff is very friendly and attentive as long as not short staffed. You can tell they bother to hire people that learn the menu and actually care about having a good attitude. They don't look like they're miserable to be at work.
You can get a sampler of the beer which I recommend if you just don't know or want to try a few but I recommend the following beers. Wildcat Wheat, Milf-n-Honey, Stoplight City Red.
The food goes a bit beyond typical bar food and has some surprisingly upscale offerings seasonally. Â I'm pretty sure my neighborhood Applebee's doesn't offer Blackened Catfish with Shrimp Etoufee! All of the apps are good, if you get the full nachos you can fill up a whole family. Â I love their broccoli chicken carbonara, Philly steak melts, fish, burgers, really everything I've had is good & I've sampled most of the menu at this point. The portions are VERY generous and the prices outstanding given the portion and quality of the food. The food is pretty consistent and if you have a problem they'll make it right and without an attitude. I wish more restaurants were like this one, but that's what makes them special.
I highly recommend this place if you only have time to go to one place in Kokomo or are hosting out of towners.
Best resturant in town. Great variety of food on the menu. Everything you expect on a bar and grill menu but cooked much better than most bars. Steaks are cooked to perfection.
The bartenders are very friendly. I recommend eating in the bar area unless your with a group. Patrons there are always interesting and every time I am there I meet someone new. Had a lot of fasinateing conversations.
It is no surprise. They win the rib contests so often. Their sauces are really, really delicious.
Go for they beer, go back for the food.
We are regular visitors of brew pubs wherever they are to be found. We drove up to Half Moon one evening for dinner and thought the food, the service, and the beer were good, if a little greasy. While I enjoyed my visit, the restaurant is a good hour away from me so we've never gone back. If we found ourselves hungry in the Kokomo area again, though, I'm sure we'd return again!
Review Source:I grew up in Kokomo and still have family there, so every trip home to Kokomo we eat at least once (or more!) at Half Moon. The handcrafted beer is the real deal. The Kokomonster was an impressive brew and paired well with a plate of pulled pork. Definitely a Kokomo must-do. Skip the chain restaurants and support your local businesses, especially one as great as Half Moon!
Review Source:Ate at Half Moon last Saturday night and thought it was pretty darn good. My husband and I thought we'd give it a try since we've never heard of it in Michigan. It was pretty busy and we sat at the bar waiting for our table and ended up just staying there and watching the football game. We had a few pretty good Margherita's considering it's a brewery. The bartender Erin did a a great job handling the bar and taking food orders at the bar. The other bartender (forgot her name) was also very friendly & did a good job. I ordered the flat iron steak and it was awesome, so much my husband kept trying to steal mine. He ordered the sirloin which he thought tasted good, but just like mine better. The guys sitting next to us said they loved the pulled pork. It did look good when they brought their's out. Overall I thought it was a great experience if you enjoy a brewery type of atmosphere. We'd go there again over all the chain restaurant's that surround it!
Review Source:Pretty descent BBQ (good, not great). Portions are re-DIC-ulously large. Â Don't get the "hearty" portion unless you want to eat for 3 people. Â Seriously. Â I got the pulled pork on recommendation from many here on Yelp. Â It was tasty. Â My wife got the brisket and it was very beefy & smokey. Not bad. Â My sides were mashed potatoes & gravy (real potatoes, not instant) & some creamy corn casserole. Â It was good, despite my recollection of what it was, exactly. Â :/
There were TV's everywhere! My 4 year old son was in a daze the whole time. Â So it's distracting (which can be good AND bad). Â Not too loud by any means, & we were there around 6pm on Friday evening. Â Place had a descent kid's menu and service was very good. Â For a last minute decision, I liked the Half Moon. Â I'd be back again.

I am writing this review to say thanks for the great time we had at our Indiana Wedding Reception on Saturday August 6th. My wife and I are originally from Nashville, TN but most of my extended family live in Indiana. We decided to have a wedding celebration party in Indiana so we could celebrate with family. We both thoroughly enjoyed our time at Half Moon. It was recommended by my Aunt who lives in nearby Greentown. It was a great selection. They have a fairly large size private room just off the main entrance that was perfect for our approx. 50 person event. The service from our two dedicated servers was excellent. The food was very good too. I had the New York Strip steak as did most people from what I saw. The beers were pretty good from what I recall. I had  the KokoMonster and the Stoplight City Red. Anyway, just would like to say thanks and we would recommend this as a place for a good meal and a great opportunity to taste some micro brews in a part of the world were I wouldn't except some decent craft beers. Thanks!
Review Source:So I went there on the advice of the front desk agent from the hotel who said I had to try their pulled pork, and she was right, it was pretty decent. Â Unfortunately I also tried their brisket and I did not think it was very good at all. Â The beers were good and the bartenders were very helpful and fun to talk to. Â Atmosphere was fun, and the music they were playing last night for some reason seemed to be all 90s themed so it was amusing too.
Review Source:Half Moon never fails to disappoint. I've given this restaurant more chances than I normally would, and each time I have left less than thrilled about eating there. Â Tonight was no exception and I will not be returning.
I won't bore you with the details, but the food was mediocre, the beer is FAR from what craft beer should be, and the service is HORRIBLE. thank you for ruining my Valentine's day even though it's really my fault because I chose to go here to begin with.
Very good and affordable food. I don't drink beer so I can't comment.
The service is hit or miss. Often times the misses come with bigger parties.
I highly recommend the pulled pork- in my opinion the best in the state. Also the fish and chips are very delicious!
Come during their early bird (I believe 4-6pm daily) for a steal: 2 meals for 13.99?!?!
This could be any chain restaurant. Â Had the carbonara w/out chicken (super creamy, but pasta was overcooked). Â Came with salad (honey mustard dressing is thick) and bread (love the honey butter). Â Tried their sweetest beer (not very sweet). Â
Surprisingly cheap (under $30 for 2 ppl!?!?!)
Half Moon opened about the same time I moved to Kokomo and it's been a favorite place since.
The service often leaves something to be desired, especially for large groups. But you'll be hard-pressed to find something bad on the menu. In fact, the steak is great though I personally prefer the pulled-pork sandwich with smokey BBQ sauce. Do get one of the microbrews. There's quite a few to choose from and they're all good, so you'll probably find one to match your taste.
Unfortunately prices are a bit higher than one might expect, but the good food is mostly worth it.
The sports bar vibe is unmistakable, as there is a big screen anywhere you look but probably not many customers watching.
Kokomo needs more of this type of place. Half Moon Brewery and the Sycamore Marketplace are/were the coolest places to hang out in Kokomo. Unfortunately I heard the Marketplace closed.
I have only been in the evening to check out the beer selection and to hear some live music. Like normal - I ordered the beer sampler so I could try everything. Overall it was pretty tasty.
Great place to have some beers and check out local bands. Â Support this place, we don't want to lose all the chill live music spots.
As a vegetarian, I couldn't experience the restaurant's specialty: steak. From those I was with, I ascertained that the steak was great and the beer was okay. I had the salmon, of which they offered many different varieties of.
The atmosphere is great here, with televisions, pool tables and a very friendly waiting staff. I recommend it for a group meal.
From the outside, the restaurant is a very large, but unspectacular building. Nothing really sets it apart from the rest of town. Inside, they've done what they can. Typical brewery decorations, big rooms, and huge tables. Not too shabby.
I actually really enjoyed the food here more than I was expecting to. They serve barbecue, which has been cooked low and slow in their own spice rub, and they serve it with their homemade barbecue sauce. The ribs and brisket need the sauce, and with it they are decent. But the real star of the show is the pulled pork. It's so good, the sauce is unnecessary! They also bring in thick sliced potatoes every morning and fry up their own potato chips. They are also delicious. In fact, for some reason you have to upgrade to French fries. Do yourself a favor and stick with the chips! The homemade cheesecake was unspectacular but good. The homemade bread pudding with porter praline sauce and cinnamon ice cream, however, was indeed spectacular. The dessert itself wasn't as custardy as I like, and it seemed to be baked from scratch instead of from pieces of bread soaked in custard, but it was still yummy.
The beer is forgettable, but it does have one star. The IPA is copper-toned with a highly fruity taste and finish. The bitterness is subtle, the malts shine, and I could drink it all day. For those who are new to microbrews, the Pre-Prohibition Pilsner and Wildcat Wheat taste identical, and reminds me of a high class Bud. The Stoplight city Red and Old Ben Brown are both sweet and make very good session beers, but taste just like every other red and brown I've ever had. The same can go for the Coal Porter, although this is the one I would choose if they ran out of IPA. The seasonal of the day was both a German Weiss and a an Applewood ESB. The ESB was better than everything but the IPA. The German Weiss was forgettable, but apparently made exactly like their regular wheat except for the hops and yeast strain, which makes it a great learning experience to taste the difference between the strains.
Absolutely amazing service. I loved our waitress. She tried to get me a mug club mug to go, but they were running low. She suggested the cinnamon ice cream to go along with the bread pudding, and it made the dish. She was chatty, friendly and kept our glasses full at all times.
I'd definitely come back here again and again if I lived a bit closer.
