    Modesto has nice things.

I repeat, Modesto has nice things!

Yes, I couldn't believe it myself until I was lured to buy tickets for Lewis Black (comedian of Comedy Central and The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart fame). Decided to make it an evening with my lovely and equally silly lady cousins. The lobby is grand like nearly Opera House grand with marble floors, columns reaching almost to the ceiling, very grand.

The staff are also very helpful, some of which I think volunteer here as well. We were in balcony seats, 3rd floor but surprisingly although I paid less than the fortunate ones in "orchestra", the view was spectacular and I didn't feel like I was in the nosebleeds. Mr. Black's performance was uproarious with his angry outbursts and colorful portrayals of people who just don't get it.

I think what I loved the most about his act is his wondering what makes us all stay in Modesto, sometimes I wonder that myself but when you really think about it, it must be the wine as he alluded.

Can't wait to see Martin Short  here in November!!!

The Gallo Center has brought so much wonderful Culture to Modesto.  We're very glad to participate in the founding of the Gallo Center!

I was fortunate enough to get invited to the center by default.  One of my bff's had 2 tix and her hubby had to go out of state for a family event at the last minute.  I've never been to the Gallo and I always enjoy a well built, acoustically sound music hall....Gallo was superb.
The Piano Guys were top billing and I'd never even heard of them, I wasn't too stoked about the concert.  Then they came on stage and I became a believer.  If you've never heard of this duo...well more of a quintet with 3 guys more behind the scenes, check out this link...
    <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fuser%2FThePianoGuys&s=a36510b9905c48f0345165056a5b92072b168abfe7ef4997e169687bbd4cb027" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/u…</a>
All I can say is that I was entranced, could hardly move and see why they have become such a <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FYouTube.com&s=7b6caacc5dc353ed84697e8f9ac34bf781f2611eeb4fa9b92060415986f17e37" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://YouTube.com</a> phenomenon.  I believe they will, no already have become an inspiration to the young people of America, a music revolution of sorts.
If you ever get a chance to see a live performance at the Gallo, run don't walk for an evening that you will never forget!  And if that group is The Piano guys, expect a magical, spiritual, life changing evening.

I've never had a bad experience here. I love that they give school's discounts on student tickets. The school I work for has come to enjoy a show. A once in a lifetime experience for those kiddos.
I've seen music, and theatre performances here. I throughly enjoy coming here. It never fails that I run into someone I know.
I can't wait for my daughter to be old enough to enjoy Gallo Center for the Arts.

We've driven from Sacramento to attend several performances at the Gallo Center for the Arts. What a great theater with comfortable seats that are easily accessible!  The theater has good sight lines and great acoustics. We wish that the Sacramento Community Center Theater was half as nice as the Gallo Center for the Arts.

I went here to watch the sound of music. The play was wonderful and apparently there are 2 theaters here. I was in the smaller theater so it was much more cozier. I was so close to the stage and I had orchestra seating. The play itself was wonderful and all the ushers were nice too. The place was beautiful and new and I will definitely be back to watch another show. The only downside is parking since parking is hard to find. So if you are going to watch a show here come early and find a spot.

BEST ACOUSTICS - WORST CLASSICAL MUSIC SELECTION

In the past year I have gone to Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco at least 7 times to see concerts, and to Fresno once to see one, but zero times to the Gallo. I don't know why the Modesto Symphony never seems to get an opportunity to play any good classical music, but they really Don't. All the good music is performed in San Francisco, which is too bad, because the acoustics at the Gallo really are far superior. I was at the Gallo on opening night, and before the performance Herbert Von Karajan himself said that the acoustics at the Gallo were perfect from any seat in the auditorium. He said he had opened many Concert Halls all over the country, and most of them had severe problems with the acoustics, which millions of dollars of adjustments didn't always fix, but the acoustics at the Gallo were just amazing, right from the start.  It's true.  If you can ever see a performance of good Classical Music at The Gallo, it's wonderful.  But like I said, they just almost never perform anything good.

So 5 Stars for the Gallo Concert Hall, and 1 Star for the Selection = 3 Stars.

I was an innocent victim of the phone nazis mentioned in a previous review.  It ruined an experience I'd been looking forward to. I guess I'm glad to know it happens to others and not just me, even though that's what it felt like. Not long after,  I received a gift certificate from coworkers for the Gallo Center, but I just can't bring myself to go there again.

Came here for the Post Secret Event 4/1/12, this marked my 3rd visit and I must say each time I have been more then satisfied with the venue and event. The volunteer staff is friendly and very accommodating. The event itself was excellent and the venue helped ensure that I was able to enjoy it.
The wine/beer list isn't the greatest but it's serviceable. I would without any hesitation come to another event at GCA and recommend it to anyone who has yet to enjoy it.

My mother and I went to see the Nutcracker yesterday afternoon. I've never attended an event at the Gallo Center and I definitely can't wait to go again. Parking at the parking garage across the street was very convenient and only cost $3. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had no issues picking up our tickets from Will Call or finding our seats. We sat in the Orchestra Box seats and they were VERY comfortable.

I'm very happy with the entire event. The Gallo Center deserves the 5 stars :)

It's a beautiful theater and cozy small, which is a big plus in my book.

However, I was pretty appalled by my experience this week. I realize you don't want someone excessively filming the event; however, I do NOT appreciate the camera "Nazi" (usher) leaning over me (we had the aisle seats), repeatedly, DURING the performance, to have words with people in front of or to the interior of me every time she thought she saw a camera or cell phone light. Granted it was a Weird Al concert and not a ballet, but it was still as disruptive as hell.

While I applaud enforcement of the rules I wonder whether every usher was that enthusiastic or if we just had to suffer the over-zealous one.

Maybe I wouldn't have minded so much if I didn't pay so much for my seats (or if Weird Al wasn't my favorite artist of all time), but as it happened, I was definitely not pleased.

I really dig this venue.  As most of the places I play are local East Bay clubs and the like, the opportunity to play a "big house" like Gallo is a welcome occasion.  Nicely appointed green rooms for the talent, real sound engineers, customized monitor mixes with a meaningful sound check...pinch me, honey, I've gone to heaven!

There are actually two theaters in the Gallo complex, both of which are ideal for catching live music (or live theater).  Rooms are large enough to project spaciousness, yet intimate enough for there not to be a bad seat in the house.  Acoustics are great, and the overall presentation of the complex is stylish and professional without screaming "over the top".

Would love to play here again.  Great venue.

Came here to see Paul Rodriguez with my love. The Gallo Center was more than I expected in Modesto. It was modern looking and well kept. They have volunteers that will check our ticket and guide you to your seat. We had got a magazine that told us up the Gallo Center and upcoming shows when we were being seated. The only reason it did not get 5 stars was due to the air conditioning going out. Thankfully they we took one of the magazines, because we used to fan ourselves off. I hope they got it fixed. Just to be on the safe side......wear layers.

    SPECIAL TOP SUPER-SECRET REPORT #100:

"CULTURALLY OBSESSED ALIENS ESTABLISH CENTER IN MODESTO"

    by Paul P*. Noid

The vast humungous beautiful structure of this amazing Center is wondrous in itself, but it is the Alien's Cultural Attraction Tractor Field that is impressive.  If you stray within one to two city blocks of this Center, it relentlessly sucks you in.  Once they get you in, there is no escaping the Cultural influence of the smiling Aliens.

You are so bedazzled by the relative opulence of the structure, and the influence of the "Cultural Attraction Tractor Field", that you seem to temporarily leave lowly "Cow-Town" Modesto, CA behind, and become assimilated by the Alien's "Cultural Cognitive Construct".  Once assimilated, you also leave the mundane behind, and then perceive a vast hall filled with benevolent smiling white haired beings.  These smiling beings radiate wisdom, culture, and friendliness.

Once the spasms of culture shock subside, you are unavoidably drawn to, what is known as, the "Ticket Window".  At the window, other smiling wise Aliens almost painlessly extract a big bunch of green paper from your wallet, with neither prompting, nor unsightly orifice probing.  They then exchange your precious limp green paper, for smaller white stiffer paper, which will allow you to enter the inner sanctum when a certain sound is radiated later.  It appears that there is a direct correlation between the volume of the stack of limp green paper and the prime ness of the number on the white stiff little paper.

While you are recovering from the sudden loss of weight in your wallet, you somehow gravitate toward another counter...where more of the ever-smiling Culturally Obsessed Aliens lighten your wallet further, and ply you with intoxicating beverages.  These beverages are filled with precious Yeast Crap.  Apparently, trillions upon trillions of yeast organisms live and die in their own waste products, to produce this strange coveted intoxicant.  You somehow get the idea that there is a correlation between the Art of Haloed Yeast Crap creation and the very existence of the Alien Art Artifact.

Shortly, a solemn tone reverberates, and the outer hall, filled with Culturally Obsessed White Haired Beings, starts to empty, as they slowly ambulate toward, and go into the inner sanctum.  You quickly imbibe the remains of your dead yeast crap and follow the Obsessed Ones in.

As you enter the inner sanctum, you almost lose all links with Modestoid reality, for you have entered the "Cultural Complexity Central Core".  Once in the Center's core, the intense Cultural-Magnetic-Ion Field almost obliterates your ego.

Gigantic energy transducers radiate EM sinusoidal multi-frequency energy toward and around you.  Your neurons are immersed in an undulating immense sensual sea, filled with Tsunami-sized waves of tones, lights, sounds, and sensations that evoke intense euphoria, bliss, and disassociation.  You lose all tracks of time and space while in the Center while in Artistic Awe...

When you eventually regain your senses hours later, you find yourself near your almost forgotten vehicle, a few blocks away from the towering structure.

Then the wind blows through your hair, and the painful awareness of your boring & mundane pathetic minor existence rushes back to the forefront of your feeble earthling mind.

You get into your ancient fuming fossil fuel contraption and somehow drive home to your now less than worthless "underwater" domicile, which has transformed from an "investment" future into an infinite, money sucking, all consuming black hole of despair & past regrets.

Early, the next day, you open your now empty wallet, and silently thank the Aliens, for the brief diversion from your bleak existence, the night before, as you toil in the Salt-mines of your dreaded job, to attempt to temporarily refill your now depleted wallet, and to "re-float" your domicile.

    SPECIAL TOP SUPER-SECRET REPORT #100

    CONCLUSION:

    THE CENTER IS AWESOME!

    BE ASSIMILATED AT WILL!

I love the Gallo! I had my first taste of opera here in January, when a few friends and I saw Romeo & Juliet. It was absolutely BREATHTAKING. The principles were all professionals from the Bay Area, and a few CSU Stanislaus students played in supporting roles. Everyone was fantastic!

The staff was so helpful and gracious. Picking up tickets at the box office was easy, and seating was painless. We were given wonderful programs by a few very kind women who also were very helpful in showing us where the elevators and restrooms were.

The facility itself is absolutely beautiful. Everything is clean, plush, spacious, and elegant. The performance was saw was in the Mary Stewart Rogers Theater, and I found the seats to be comfortable and accommodating. The ladies' room was impeccably clean, with spotless wall-to-wall carpeting and amazing mirrors.

The BEST thing is that ticket prices are very affordable, and you can still see and hear perfectly from a balcony seat! I can't wait to go back again soon!

The Gallo Center is an interesting place.  It's new, bright and airy, especially for a smaller town like Modesto.  I was impressed by the atrium and the sight lines (there are sight lines in theaters right?).  But the space between the aisle to the next row of seats was nearly nil.  Kind of tight if you are taller than 5'4.  I saw the Nutcracker there.  It was a community theater production.  So I didn't expect too much.  But it was cute to see what seemed like half of the kids in the town be so excited to perform in front of a packed house.

The center is a solid 3 stars.  Classy, but not world-class.

The Gallo Center for The Arts is an excellent facility. I've personally been to a number of different performances here and each one of those performances was high quality and very professional.

Stats: There are 2 theaters in this facility 1) Mary Stuart Rogers Theater, which is the larger of the 2 with a capacity of about 1,251 people. 2) Foster Family Theater, is a more intimate theater with a capacity of about 440 people. Both are modern facilities.

Recommendations: 1) Be aware that seating in the Foster Theater is a bit tight and there is limited leg room. 2) The upper level box seats in both theaters are the best places to sit, but not the most expensive seats. You get your own individual non-mounted seat that is wider and more accessible (in & out). The box seats are more expensive, but worth the cost as they provide a great deal more comfort, especially if you enjoy your personal space. 3) If you don't intend on paying $4 for a bottle of water and other high prices for cheap snack items, then I suggest you eat before you go, or make sure someone in your party has a large purse to throw a few water bottles in haha 4) One of the best times to go to the Gallo Center is during the holiday season. The center is decorated, making it a warm environment that is great for some holiday photo opportunities.

    Overall a first-rate facility!

This being Modesto, it doesn't really have much, but when you're in the Gallo Center for the Arts you feel like you're on Broadway.

The moment you walk in it is beautiful to look around, from the marble floors to the high ceilings and amazing double stairs leading up to the second floor of this great theater. The staff here both times were very friendly and very helpful.  I have been to two plays at the Gallo Center.  Both plays were complete opposites of each other, Swan Lake and STOMP.  I had a wonderful seeing both of these plays.  Being in the Gallo theater twice and also being in each of the to theaters, I noticed that it really doesn't matter where you sit, you have a GREAT view from all angles.

The only downside is they don't like you to bring in your own snacks or drinks, and expect you to purchase what they offer.  That would be find because I am all about supporting the arts, but if a candy bar is $3.  That basically only being the option of candy bars and chips, it would be nice if they had healthy intermission snacks. They also only have two options for drinking water and its either the fountain or Noah's bottled water for another high price of 4.00.  If you have ever tasted Noah's water, you would prefer the drinking fountain.

If you're from Modesto, I recommend at least seeing one play here.  As you first walk in they have a catalog of up coming plays for the year.  They even sometimes have plays and events that can run as low as $3.  If you're hurting for money but still like to get out of the house, it's cheaper to go here than an $11 movie.

My lovely Grandma is a regular attendee from musicals to comedian Lewis Black. I can see why she keeps going back. This place is really nice, from the architectural design to each of the 3 theaters. Very well done. I'm sure many Modestoans are thankful the Gallo family contributed this wonderful venue. It was definitely needed.

We recently saw The Music Man by the YES Company and were completely blown away. Truly one of the best musicals I've seen and I've seen plenty. The orchestra was amazing. These are just kid actors and they were performing well beyond their years. So entertaining and enjoyable. I can't wait to come back. Shipoopi!

The 15 to 25 price range are the best deals.  $60 dollars a seat is too much for me.

This is a beautiful venue.  The seating is comfortable, the volunteers were very friendly and helpful and no matter where you sit, it looks like you can see the stage.   My family and I saw the Chinese Acrobats--amazing!!!!  We are definately going to see more performances at the Gallo Center in the future.  We just moved to Modesto from the Bay Area and I thought we would have to give up seeing stage performances...I was wrong.

While it's nice to have such a beautiful theater facility in Modesto, the Gallo Center is over priced for this area. Why would I want to pay $50 for local productions or even productions brought in from the region that are NOT Broadway touring companies when I can easily go to San Francisco or Sacramento and pay LESS to see actual Broadway caliber productions?

It's a shame that locals are tricked into believing they are watching actual Broadway productions. If you look at the programs, they do not (and cannot) say they are Broadway companies performing. The shows were at one time on Broadway, therefore they aren't exactly falsely advertising when they say the shows are Broadway shows...but they are not Broadway performances.

This facility was supposed to make the arts more accessible to the community but they charge so much for the groups to use it that in turn the groups have to charge way too much for the tickets. It's sad - it had such potential...

I've seen two shows here. The first was Cats and a few weeks ago I was able to see Bye Bye Birdie.

Awesome. That's really all I can say.

I went into Cats not expecting anything. I had been asked if I would fill a seat for someone who couldn't attend and reluctantly I said okay. But 15 minutes into the show I found myself loving the show! I mean wow, when the stage started to fly away I was pretty amazed.

The production Bye Bye Birdie was put on by the Yes Company. It's a troupe of younger adults, or kids if you will ;), and they put on a great show! I again wasn't expecting much being that the tickets were about 20$ a piece for up front seating. And again I was surprised. It wasn't as well produced as the Broadway Production of Cats that I seen, but I was blown away knowing that these kids are from the area. I mean wow, bravo guysgals! Bravo! The performers were really great and I wouldn't mind seeing another production from the Yes Company!

If you want some entertainment and like theater this place has it.

For Modesto, this is as good as it gets for live entertainment of all sorts.  The Gallo Center does a good job of bringing in artists and events that reach out to everyone.  I have seen Broadway traveling shows, symphony performances, Bernadette Peters, and Bobby McFerrin (wow, he was amazing) to name a few.  Also I sing with the Modesto Symphony Orchestra Chorus so I have been a performer backstage and the facilities and supporting crew are great as well!  Such a nice venue to have in the area to see events and get some culture without having to travel outside the Modesto area.  Support the Gallo Center! Try something new!

My first and so far only experience with the Gallo Center was when I went to see the Nutcracker in December.

The place is beautiful! I truly felt that Modesto actually did something brilliant with the opening of this establishment. I was dressed to the nines, and so was every other person there. Nearly every man in a suit and tie, every woman in her Sunday best and every little girl with their best Cinderella style gown ready to be awed.

The ballet was wonderful. We ended up sitting in the very first row which would be too close for comfort at a movie theater but was perfect for the ballet. And looking around, up to the balconies, up to the ceilings...the theater for the show this night was impressive. Beautiful.

During intermission I used the fancy ladies room, and then grabbed a rather expensive but much appreciated 7 & 7 and enjoyed it sitting on a cushy leather chair in the lobby waiting for the show to start again.

I have been getting e-mail updates ever since and have yet to be find something that I'm willing to pay a lot to go see but...I'm certain I'll go again eventually.
