I have enjoyed every meal I've had from George's. Great lunch place for food that is closer to home cooked. Good flavor, good portion sizes, reasonable prices.
I've only eaten at the George's in the Union so the space/ambience is not much worth mentioning. I will say all the employees have always been pleasant and quick. Great options for people so if you have a few picky folks they'll still be able to find something to eat. Love that this is a locally owned place with good food in Terre Haute. The Gyro's are especially good, as are the fries. But I've also enjoyed the Chicken Sandwich.
Well George's is currently my favorite lunch stop by far this year (2012). This review is based on food alone. The decor is hideous and parking is tough. Now that you know that, it's time to talk about the food and the service.
The menu is a blend of American, Syrian, and Mediterranean. I am recently vegetarian but i will tell you, the cheeseburger is GOOD! The Gyro is fabulous, and the all the "fixins" are fresh. I now get the falafel special. It is basically a gyro with falafel instead of gyro meat. I love it. Albert is the man that is the magician in the kitchen. He makes a spicy Syrian sauce from scratch called shata that is ridiculously good. I put it on everything!
The service is first rate. It can be packed in there for lunch and the girls never leave you wanting. Albert is always friendly and likes to come out and shake your hand once in a while. I like that. It puts a personal touch to things.
All in all, the food is excellent and the staff is very comptetent. Try it! You'll be glad you did!
Awesome Lebanese cuisine and a great value. Thanks to yelp, we ventured off the highway on our road trip to scope out this hidden gem. What George's lacks in curb appeal and ambience it makes up for in great food and friendly service. We ordered combo plates which did not disappoint and walked out for under $15 for two people. Bargain! Falafel and hummus both stars.
Review Source:The food here is simply amazing. Â It has the best falafel I have ever tasted. Â The service is incredibly friendly too. Â The prices are ridiculously low for the quality. Â The cook, who I am assuming was Albert (based on other reviews), came out to check on us.
We stayed one night in Terre Haute, and plan to go back for this place.
If you're in Terre Haute, DO NOT MISS THIS.
Kibby, falafal, baba ghanoush, and tabbouleh... mmmm.
The decor leaves a lot to be desired, which is typical for Terre Haute, but the food is what will make you want to come back. Â If you're in the mood for middle eastern or mediterranean, George's may be one of the only options you have in the area, but it's a really good one to have. Â The prices are reasonable, the food is delicious, and the service is friendly and helpful. Â If you're lucky, you may even get a special visit from the owner, Albert, who has had his lamb stew recipe featured in Gourmet Magazine.
Most of the seating in the main room is set up in booths, but there is also a second room which could accommodate larger groups. Â The only draw back for me was that George's wasn't open in the evening, which is when I would often crave the food. Â The good news is that ISU students have their own fast-food style George's in the University food court. Â Important note: bring cash, as credit cards are not accepted.
