Maybe I am nostalgic, but I thought this place was better when they were in the 100 center. I have been chastised by my friends for thinking that, but service goes a long way for me in liking a place. Â Maybe it was like being part of a family back when they were in the 100 Center, it seemed like everyone was related that was working their (I think they were). Sure it was dark, but that just added to the feel of the place. Â
The new place still has the same great pizza and we will for sure order carry out, although not as often as they are a bit out of the way from where we live. Â But until my biggest issue, the servers hovering over your table and chatting about their high school lives within ear shot we won't be dining in.
Only in the Midwest would you find one of the best pizza restaurants in the middle of cornfields at a gas station stop.
The pizza is excellent if you like deep-dish, if you don't mind waiting for a table, and for the pizza itself (estimated wait time is 45 minutes to bake a deep-dish pizza and 35 minutes if the restaurant is not busy).
Friendly and attentive waitstaff....a size 'small' stuffed pizza was approximately $17 and it could easily feed 3 hungry people. Sit in the bar and have a drink while you wait....
I'm a NY pizza guy, but I'm not too snobby to enjoy a Chicago pie every once and a while. Â Â Best Chicago Pizza I have ever had including three different "Famous" Chicago area pizza places.
What I like about their pizza, dough isn't too greasy/buttery, cheese is really good, sauce is very flavorful. Â A large weighs like 10 pounds and will last a few days. Â Â
Go to Gia's if you want real deal Chicago pizza. Â Order when you first arrive as it takes a while to cook these beasts.
I have family in Mishawaka that claims this is the best Chicago-style pizza. Â Being the pizza lover I am, I dared them to prove it by taking me.
First a word of caution. Â The current location does leave something to be desired. Â The building is rather unwelcoming. Â But if this is the biggest concern, have no fear because they are moving to a new and improved location in a month or two (Oct-Nov 2011).
But back to the food. Â Wow. Â There is no skimping on ingredients (especially the amazing sauce) or taste. Â I can tell you right now I have no problem eating half a large "normal" pizza on my own if the mood strikes. Â But just two pieces of their stuffed pizza pretty much stuffed me. Â Be prepared to have leftovers (your taste buds will thank you later). Â And since you're going to have leftovers anyway, I highly recommend ordering the breadsticks first. Â They are crispy on the outside yet so fresh on the inside. Â And of course you get to dip them in that spectacular sauce.
Finally a useful tip: the stuffed pizza can take a while to cook, so even if you plan to eat-in, you can call ahead and have them start cooking it before you arrive.
This pizza place tucked in the back of the 100 Center is amazing. Â So few people know it exists, but so many more should. Â Their specialty is a Chicago style stuffed pizza, and in my opinion they do it even better than Giordano's in Chicago. Â The sauve is delcious with just the right amount of sweetness and the crust in fantastic. Â The garlic bread is also great and the marinara sauce that comes with it has meat in it. Â Yum. Â Everyone should try this place at least once, and if you do, it won't be the last time.
