I'm not a big fan of bar food, but my husband worked super late one night and it was this place or Ihop--dining choices after 11 are pretty limited.
I'm so glad we chose this place!
5.00 appetizers after 9 pm make this a great late-night meal place, and they had a great Blue Moon Pumpkin ale in the bottle. Food was tasty and fresh and OMG the pretzels were AMAZING.
Cheap, good, and not just bland bar food. I'll be back!
Don't get me wrong, I love barbecue, but this place just doesn't cut it. The barbecue tastes curiously bland, which makes me wonder just what their barbecuing procedures are. We tried this place several times, thinking we must have gotten the one bad dish, but everything we tried induced the same reaction: blech. Their sides are even worse. How can you screw up cornbread? And yet, they have the worst cornbread I have ever tasted. Their parsely red potatoes are simply boiled potatoes with a sprig of parsley put in. Haven't you guys ever heard of seasoning? Coleslaw is always a hit-or-miss affair with restaurants, and predictably, they miss by a long shot.
Service is none too good either. The server staff consists mostly of young kids who appear completely unconcerned over the needs of the customers, and seemingly oblivious to any tie-in between good service and a good tip.
I really can't say anything good about this place except the food isn't horrible, it just isn't up to par. And with such excellent alternatives, I don't know why anyone would bother with this place.
Its probably not fair that I havent reviewed Glory Days before, especially this location.
Â
The things I really like about glory days:
They have the sunday ticket. Â And in my experience dont hassel you about camping out for the whole game even in the normal seating area. Â
The menu is consistent. Â I like to get out of the box occationally but I know which apps and sandwiches will always hit the spot.
The menu has new items every few months and some of the new items are a real hit - Pretzel sticks (both savory and sweet), Oreo icecream sandwiches, Hot Dogs
The bar tenders are nice, the staff on sundays goes out of the way to remember the faces they've seen before.
The things that bug me:
A bulk of the tvs are seriously old. Â Low Def? Â more like No Def.
The menu has some new items every few months that are forgettable and/or unappealing - lobster salad sandwich, corned beef dinner
You are screwed on gameday if you show up at game time and want a spot at the bar with a view of your game. Â Usually on a normal sunday you have to be there ten minutes to ensure you get a seat, 20 minutes plus if you want two seats next to each other. Â This cant really be helped, I know, as you can see I plan ahead now.
I ordered the sliders, they were okay. I didn't expect mushrooms and onions on the slider instead of normal burger fixings, but maybe I didn't read the description correctly.
I will be going back on a Monday for their $5 burger special.
Had the bottled root beer, it was okay, but definitely not an amazing "on tap" style root beer.
We were given a gift card to Glory Days and decided to use it over the weekend.
The service was great, but the food was just ok. The barbeque chicken quesadilla we ordered as an appetizer was good, but our entrees lacked flavor (ranchero chicken wrap and fish fry)
For desert, the cleveland brownie sundae hit the spot taste wise, but the brownie was finished in two bites and the ice cream was nearly melted when it arrived at our table.
I used to go here when there weren't many other choices in Gainesville. Â Went back for the first time in several months the other day, and see no reason to return. Â My burger was bland and overcooked and we had to go look for our server twice to get our drinks refilled. Â The place was maybe 1/3 full and all the servers were congregated around the bar showing each other their phones.
Review Source:Average across the board based on years of experience. "Meh" is definitely the word. It's fine, per se, but "fine" to me doesn't translate to a solid three stars. One reviewer called it "the best sports bar in G'Ville." Well it's pretty much the only "sports bar" in G'Ville. The penchant for hiring high school students pervades the service in my experience. Not incompetent; just inexperienced. Prices are a little more than I'd prefer for such a place. Less expensive for what it is might garner another star.
Review Source:Glory Days is the best sports bar in Gainesville! Great, fresh, juicy burgers and wings, friendly staff, lots of TVs, two big screens and a fully stocked bar, Â even real silverware and cloth napkins. The place is always clean, and managers are always working. Pro Tip: Get your burger medium for a juicy yummy burger.
Review Source:I used to come here back when there was a lack of bar/grill options in Gainesville. First things first, I will offer a fair warning for those who are thinking of coming here to watch NFL Sunday ticket, STAY AWAY - it is absolute mayhem. They don't stay true to the tvs the assign to the games, the service is dreadful, and the volume boxes drain their batteries fast. On any other day, the service is still bad, the food is mediocre at best and definitely overpriced. Buffalo Wild Wings is a much better bet in all aspects.
Review Source:An example of how other patrons can ruin a restaurant/bar experience....I went there after a day of wine tasting, sat at the bar for a beer or two and a burger, and there was a family sitting in the bar area that was loud, obnoxious and even rattled the bar tender's nerves ("they've been here since 2 and they're getting louder by the drink.") Â Can you say, "cut them off?" Â The wife/mother especially was loud and disruptive. Â And they had their young kids in tow. Â The noise level drowned out my experience there, and now that I know there's a Buffalo Wild Wings in Gainesville with Buzztime--I know where to go after a day of tasting. Â
As for the food at Glory Days--mediocre. Â A notch below Bungalow. Â And that's not a good thing.
I've been to this location a few times and each time have had a pretty good experience.
Most recently I went with a friend of mine for a late dinner (9PM). Â By this point many restaurants are in the closing mindset and service usually isn't great since everyone is just ready to be done with the day. Â Despite the late time and not a lot of customers (except for the bar), we were seated promptly and received excellent, friendly service the entire time.
We got wings for an appetizer and I got the bacon cheeseburger as my meal. Â I've had the wings there before and they're usually very good. Â They were still good this time, but could have been cooked a little more well done. Â The burger was great! Â I really like the burger buns they use there.
Overall, a good experience.
I was hungering for a good burger this evening - I thought that Glory Days Grill might be a good place for a burger. I've never been to a Glory Days before this evening.
I ordered a burger with Blue Cheese and caramelized onions, medium-well, with fries, and a pint of Blue Moon.
Quite frankly, the best thing about dinner was the beer. The burger was not that great - not a lot of flavor. And the fries were just okay.
I will give them another shot down the road and try something else next time - but first time - I am not impressed.
Oh, and this is a fairly new restaurant. So why is the restaurant festooned with old analog style/CRT TV's? There were a ton of 'em! A new restaurant such as this should be taking the initiative and going straight to High Def flat panel TVs!
