We just moved into our new digs in Grafton and have found our new Thursday evening hang out. Â The Grafton Inn is a comfortable space in a beautiful historic building. Â It's not overly "fancy" and it's not a dive - it's a great local eatery with a welcoming and professional staff. Â When I go out for dinner during the week with my spouse, we always like to sit at the bar and enjoy a few cocktails and dinner. Â Perfect setting for us.
We were also impressed with the small town local clientele that the establishment attracts. Â Very nice people to chat with.
Quick and friendly service, great atmosphere sitting outside. Â Got the Cobb salad, which was excellent, and the sweet potato fries were tasty as well. Â No pesky rodeo clowns within our range of visibility, and nobody tried to pants us while we were there, so that was a nice change from the places we normally go to. Â
Overall, a very good experience. Â We plan to go back.
My wife and I stayed here recently (we didn't sample the food or drinks, so I'll confine my review to the hotel aspect of this place) and I must say we won't return. Although the hotel was clean, the room was barely adequate in the amenities one expects in even a roadside motel-- like adequate lighting, or a place to sit down. The bathroom was tiny, the water pressure weak, and to top it off, the entire room sported a disquieting sag toward the middle, so that we felt we were living in some kind of odd "fun house" out of a deranged horror movie. (I know, the place is old-- 18th century old--but this was too much). And service was non-existent (just try using the phone to call the front desk). The price was low, $90 a night, tax included. Barely worth it.
Review Source:I stopped by the Grafton Inn on a Saturday night after finding most area restaurants to be full with an hour or more wait. Â There was no wait here, even though the parking lot looked busy. Â The atmosphere is very quaint with a couple of lit fireplaces. The service was ok, even though we were never asked if we wanted our leftovers wrapped or if we wanted dessert. Â The drink/wine list is very limited and the menu didnt have a lot of choices. Â I had the chicken Parmesan which was ok and my husband had the prime rib which was a bit undercooked and fatty. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again, but all in all, it wasn't bad and the prices were very reasonable.
Review Source:We are Graftonites and the Grafton Inn is an always-trusted stand-by for our family of four. Whenever we go, we know the staff is going to be friendly and inviting to us and our young kids.
The food is good -- it doesn't knock our socks off, but it is always solidly good. The prices are fair and we never wait longer then we are quoted.
The kids menu could be expanded, but their regular menu has some go-to options that we always like -- french onion soup, and the portobello mushroom burger, to name a few.
I'm sure we'll keep coming back for years to come!
Decent place to grab some food or drinks. Â The owners are super friendly and service is usually adequate. Â The wine list is small and not very exciting. Â i think this place could be really good with a focus on some local food and expanded wine offerings. Â Why not source your food from the farmer's market that is right down the road while it is in season? Â In any event, it's decent for Grafton, but again, Grafton does not have much to offer as far as restaurants go.
Review Source:Overpriced. Disorganized menu. Mediocre food. This place could be so much better. It's nice inside, quaint old inn. The Guinness was served ice cold in three different types of glasses. They should buy some quality pint glasses for the price they charge and learn how to serve it properly. The menu needs to pick an identity and do it well. A taco style salad, seared tuna over seaweed salad, or chicken parmesan??? Nothing was impressive. Is it a high end inn, pub, fine dining or family restaurant?? Not sure I'll ever know but I sure hope the chef or owner figures it out.
Review Source:Solid pub food and seafood. Â Decent bar area with full bar and about 8 taps; think sam, wachusett, harpoon, gunness, bass, a seasonal and 2 domestics. Â My wife loves the haddock. Â The buffalo wings are a little small but good. Â I had some sort of garlic-lover's mashed potato pizza on special once that was pretty tasty. Â The calamari gets the thumbs up. Â A couple of TVs behind the bar. Â There's usually a coupon on the web site or in the local paper. Â The bar and wait staff seem to know their stuff. Â Recommended if you're in the area.
Review Source:Heading back from a wake last night, our small group wanted to go to some kind of pub and stopped in the lovely town of Grafton for a bite to eat and a drink. Â This town is really cute and so quintessentially New England. Â The Inn itself was built in 1805 and really has a nice ambiance. Â Of course, we only went in the restaurant part, but the hotel looked like a very special place to stay to get that old New England feel. Â
My husband and I split the fried calamari because we had eaten an early dinner at home. Â This was good and filled our need for pub food. Â Our other friends had a portobello burger and a chicken sandwich. Both came with fries, had large portions, and each dinner was less than $8.00. Â The service was prompt and friendly. Â
It looked like they had outdoor seating, but it didn't appear to be open yet.  I would love to come back on a warm summer evening, sip a Sam Summer Ale (or a pinot grigio, that's more my style), have a  nice conversation with friends, and find peace gazing out onto the Grafton green.
Well, John (the owner of the building) is back and he and his wife are running the restaurant again... Thank God. They ran it for years and then leased the space out to someone who decided it was time to revamp the menu and increase the prices tenfold. Well, we ate there once under the reign of whoever-it-was and it was bad and cost a fortune.... Then the great recession hit and the lot was empty... I mean empty for over a year.
Now that John is back, the place has changed the menu once again and the pricing is in line with where it should be. Yay.
The bar is usually packed on Fri/ Sat nights and is fun. Now that I think of it... thank god the place changed hands cause the old loud mouth of a bartender is now gone and not missed. What a douche he was.
Anyways... back to decent food and a nice atmosphere to enjoy a meal.
The Grafton Inn just went into new management. Â As a highschooler I enjoyed the monthly concerts held on the second floor. Â The new Inn is too swanky for any of that. Â When I went with my family and my grandmother I was sticker shocked, I don't think that it was really the best place to go because not only was my chicken dinner $20, it was too much food and quite a waste. Â There is a good reason we haven't gone back since.
