I dug the grape, but it isn't cheap in the slightest. I stopped in here to wait for my friend after a long drive down from Chicago.
I got here around 4:30ish and it was pretty quiet, which was fine by me. I took a look at the wine list and ordered some OR pinot. What was nice was that the glass didn't have an oxidized taste to it which sometimes can happen at a wine bar. I would also eventually order a bourgogne as well, which was nice to see a burgundy on the list.
I had to get some food and went with the smoked salmon flatbread. This was very nice and on the lighter side as I wanted to save room for bigger eating later.
The service was very nice and easy to get a hold of. Granted, there weren't that many people around but I didn't feel rushed either.
The wine list was pretty diverse and had a solid by the glass selection. Mind you, it was costing about 75% of what I'm used to the wines at retail. I know this is fairly standard fare, but it adds up fast (and why I'm normally a fan of drinking my own wine). This ended up being my most expensive place over the 4-day weekend that I was around Louisiana.
I absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is perfect. Â We dinned outside and enjoyed the view of the fountain and the nighttime sky. Â The sever was nice and provided excellent service. Â He was knowledgeable of the menu and when we asked about the huge selection of cheeses to pair with our wine, he recommended a few that we loved! It started to rain while we were outside but moving inside was quick and painless, not a problem. Â The crowd was perfect for us, being post college mid 20 somethings... dress was everything form jeans to dresses. Â Will definitely being going back soon!
Review Source:Went to grab a quick bite there after a movie at Cinemark, across the way. The atmosphere is nice. We could have taken a seat outside and listened to so me live music in the courtyard, but chose to stay inside and enjoy the AC as it was quite humid! As a bonus, we sat by the windows near the courtyard and still got to hear a more subdued version of the music. Regarding the wine, lots of good choices and a generous pour. Offers half glass, full glass and by the bottle prices for all and is roughly what you would expect to pay these days for such things. Waitress was very good and attentive without being obtrusive. We only ordered one dish - and split it - so not a lot to report on there - but it was shrimp and grits and was good. There was a tasty sauce mixed in with the grits, shrimp and andouille sausage that was good - but there was too much of it and, as a result, the sauce completely overpowered the grits, and everything else - Â and made the whole dish more salty than I like and almost made me feel like I had ordered a bowl of sauce. I think about half the amount they gave us would have completely changed the experience. Worth checking out, but if you order the shrimp and grits - you might think about asking if the sauce can be delivered on the side and add it to your own liking....
Review Source:Excellent wine bar!
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, very good selection "by the glass", prices aren't awful, pleasant crowd (30 and over) - all in all a top notch wine bar - serves food as well. Can't comment on that as I have yet to try any but it does look good.
OK - one other plus - it's right across the sidewalk from the cinema. If you need to sober a bit you can do so while watching a movie (just kidding).
Bottom line: I like this place
The Grape is a special wine bar/small plate place. Â Very nice staff, large selection of fine wines, full bar, and delicious small plates. Â The shrimp and grits are infused with sausage and are better than most. Â Not too crowded with great ambiance. Â Patio out back shares with the the Wine Loft. Â Easy and fun.
Review Source:Older crowd (30's+) but really great atmosphere for Baton Rouge. I felt like I was in a cottage somewhere. The place is small. The fact that it's in a little stand-alone building in Perkins Rowe makes me feel like I'm not eating at a mall. Really friendly and good service. The appetizers are delicious! Not remembering the names, but we tried the warm brie & apple dish, the salmon on herb bread, the hummus plate, and my comrades had the beef & bleu cheese appetizer. All were really great! We didn't even eat entrees after that because it was so much food! They make some really great mixed drinks and martinis. I had an extra dirty Grey Goose martini and I was very pleased. Will be back again for sure! A great place to enjoy a good meal and drinks with friends or co-workers.
Oh, and the outdoor patio is quite adorable, and I can't wait to eat here in the winter with a sweater on, with all the candlelight.
I went there with a friend for Tuesday at noon for Lunch. There were no other customers. That should have told us something. We were seated promptly and had a lovely view of the Courtyard. The Chairs were comfortable...which was a good thing. The Dinner menu had a lot of interesting items. There was a paper lunch menu with a dozen choices. We ordered Iced Tea with lots of Lemon. When the waitress returned with our drink order there were no lemon slices. We tried unsuccessfully  to get more detailed information about menu items from our waitress.
Given the situation in the Gulf of Mexico where does the seafood come from? Is the seafood fresh? Is it frozen? Is the Flatbread made here? Our waitress kept saying " I don't know " and did not find out.
We were hungry so we stayed. My friend ordered the Crab and Shrimp Salad from the Dinner Menu. I ordered the $8 Chicken Salad sandwich. The Crab and Shrimp Salad was beautiful. It was also inedible. The "crab meat" was lump white fish. It had gone bad. We had to get up and get the Waitress to take it away.
My Sandwich was good but not worth the Money. The service was horrible. They served spoiled food. I will NOT be back.
