The Bulldog

One of my most-visited spots in BR. I think the atmosphere is just perfect. Sure, there are times I want a little something different, but what I think The Bulldog does so well is create a place that both males and females--young and old-- want to be in. It's not too dirty "man cave" for women, it's not too loud booty-shaking for men, and it has the diverse crowd where a newly 21-year-old can have a great time.. as well as their mother.

I find that their staff cares more about the beer itself than any other bar in the city.. even moreso than bars with larger beer selections. Everyone is friendly, the place is very clean, and of course I can bring my pup with me.

I tend to avoid Wednesday nights, which is the most popular night of the week. It just gets too packed for my taste, and I like to easily grab a seat. But clearly what they do on Wednesdays works too!

They experimented with the music. The started with music that the staff controlled, and then had a DJ a few nights a week, but now they use a program called RockBot, which is a jukebox from an app on your phone where you can either pay to play a song.. or up/down-vote songs that others choose.

I'm a fan of Irish/English pubs and beer so naturally I love the BullDog.

They have a very large selection of Beers and is rotates their Guinness kegs more than most other places which is a plus.

It has a great atmosphere and there is always good people there. Especially on wednesdays when you can keep your glasses.

I've been to the one in New Orleans and I actually like the layout in this one better. The patio here is much better imo.

Toto, we're not in New Orleans anymore..

But seriously! A friend and I were doing an away rotation in Baton Rouge last month and decided to check out the BR Bulldog one night and we were pleasantly surprised to find a more beautiful and cleaner version of The Bulldog that we have come to know and love in New Orleans.

Place is way more spacious, the back is beautiful and the fountain is probably nicer than Magazine street too. I don't know if I should feel guilty cheating on the original Bulldog, it's not that I like this one any more than Magazine street.. I just like it different. That's okay, right? ;)
