Hound Dogs

A savior, a shinning star in the late-night downtown Baton Rouge scene.  It's like a New Orleans dive bar, with weird decor, odd-ball clientèle, laid-back bartenders, and really fun karaoke, but its in downtown Baton Rouge!  Skip Third Street and head over to Hound Dog's.  

Also, tip to gay guys out there - the guys at Hound Dogs are younger and better looking that the guys at George's Place (on average, or at least when I've been there), but there are a lot more straight guys at this bar.  

Overall, it seems like a much more inclusive and diverse scene that the other gay bars in town.

Perfect dive bar. If you wanna chill with locals, this is the place. Real people come here.

If you don't like smoking, don't come here. I walked in during a parade and the joint was PACKED and I could hardly see through the dense fog of burning tobacco--cough cough.

The jukebox is AWESOME. Kind of pricey but damn, they got every song you can think of. I found everything to get my rock on.

Bartenders are super friendly.

You can smoke inside, but I heard BR is changing that.

Beer selection is limited but they got newcastle and guiness.

We heard one night that it was a gay bar. The name is hound dogs, but I attributed that to their daily chilli dog special.

It didn't feel like a gay bar, and if it is, its probably the coolest gay bar Ive been to.

Its just a good dive bar period.

I came in with a local, from the outside it's a cute lil place.  It's also a cute lil place once your indoors.. however, tisk tisk on LA allowing smoking in bars.  How could someone enjoy that?  Maybe it's because I don't smoke, but it's disgusting, I really don't want to smell like a pack of cigarettes for days and I definitely caught the lung cancer 6x here.

Minus that disgustingness, I enjoyed it here.

Bartenders = AMAZING, they're great.
You can tell it's a "townie bar," that's what we call locals up north.
Good location.
Dive Bar.
Pool table.
Cigarette machine with fishbowl of condoms on top.. no comment.
Decent prices.
Karaoke on Thursday nights.
